Alia Bhatt opens up about her favourite fashion moments, from iconic tributes to Rekha to glamorous red carpets, and how she brings creativity to every look.

Alia Bhatt is an absolute fashionista who has made her mark on the global stage, whether it’s Cannes, Gucci, or the Met Gala, she has proved time and again that the actor remains at the top of the fashion charts. In her September 4 interview with Grazia, she opened up about what draws her to certain events, the people she collaborates with, and how she approaches fashion as more than just a look. In her latest interview, Alia Bhatt discusses her trust in her creative team and the meaningful connections she forms at global events.

What makes Alia’s red carpet moments so special

Reflecting on her experiences at prestigious events like Gucci shows, the Cannes red carpet, and The Met, Alia explains that these occasions are about far more than fashion. “I truly enjoy every moment of these events,” she says.

Alia adds, “There’s a beautiful kind of chaos, but it’s filled with incredible energy. What makes it even more special is meeting talented women from across the globe, learning about the work they’re doing, and sharing a little bit of yourself in return. It creates a sense of connection that makes the world feel smaller, and that feeling is really wonderful.” For her, these gatherings are not just glamorous outings, they are spaces to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate creativity in all its forms.

How she recreated Rekha’s iconic look

Alia’s approach to fashion is thoughtful, guided by collaborations with people who value storytelling and attention to detail. Whether working with Rhea Kapoor, Anaita Shroff Adajania, or Sabya Mukherjee, she gravitates toward projects that go beyond the surface. “We take pleasure in the little details, whether people get it or not is okay,” she adds.

Her most recent homage to the legendary Rekha highlights this philosophy perfectly. Trusting her team completely, she recreated the iconic look on the day of the screening, embracing both spontaneity and creativity. “I trust my team and people like Rhea blindly; we align on thought which is why we work together,” she says.

Can your hair colour trigger serious allergies? Dermatologist shares 7 symptoms: Blisters on skin, red scalp and more | Health

Many dye their hair colours as a way of self-expression, fashion statement, or to occasionally freshen up their look. While generally it is viewed as something youngsters may do, many older adults dye their hair to hide grey hair. But hair colours contain chemicals which come with their own risks, and sometimes may also cause severe allergic reactions. While no one is outrightly condemning hair colour or asking you to stop dying completely, knowing about the potential health threats that can happen makes it easier to take precautions and safely colour your hair.

Dr Jasmine Gandhi, medical advisor and consultant dermatologist at Kaya Limited, told HT Lifestyle that permanent colour dyes contain a specific ingredient which causes allergic triggers.

Highlighting the ingredient, she said, “One of the most common culprits is paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a key ingredient in many permanent dyes, known to trigger contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals. Reactions to PPD can range from minor scalp discomfort to allergic reactions that cause serious symptoms throughout the body.”

Symptoms of allergy

How do you know if your hair colour is adversely reacting? There are some signs to keep an eye out for. Dr Jasmine Gandhi listed out the allergy symptoms:

  1. Scalp irritation, redness, itching
  2. Inflammation of the scalp, neck, forehead, ears or eyes
  3. Swelling of face, lips, eyes, hands and feet
  4. Blisters on skin
  5. Burning, stinging sensations
  6. Change in skin pigmentation
  7. Dryness and skin cracking

Other than the above-listed symptoms, the allergic reaction can take an even more serious turn. Dr Gandhi called it anaphylactic shock. She added, “Anaphylaxis, often known as ‘anaphylactic shock,’ a severe allergic reaction that occurs within minutes, is a medical emergency.”

This allergic reaction is so severe that the symptoms go far beyond the scalp. She continued, “People may experience light-headedness or fainting, and swelling of the mouth, throat, or tongue, which can cause breathing and swallowing issues. Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, wheezing or unconsciousness are some other symptoms.”

When any serious situation like this comes up, Dr Gandhi recommends visiting a medical practitioner. If the reaction is mild, then she said that it can be managed by washing off excess dye and applying a gentle anti-inflammatory cream. While antihistamine medicines, Dr Gandhi reiterated it’s best to let the healthcare professional guide the treatment. Even if the reaction was mild, Dr Gandhi warned that it should not be taken lightly as products containing PPD may cause even more severe reactions in the future, when dyed again.

How do you know if your hair colour is safe or not?

The key to safe hair colouring is doing a patch test before applying the dye to your hair. This helps to rule out PPD allergy.

Elaborating more about how to do the patch test, she revealed, “Always do a patch test 48 hours before applying hair dye, even if you have used the product before. In case of PPD allergy, you can opt for products containing PTD (para-toluenediamine) instead. PTD is a less sensitising alternative and is often tolerated by people allergic to PPD. However, patch testing is still essential before use.”

For a safer hair colouring experience, the dermatologist recommended opting for hair colours which do not have ingredients like PPD or ammonia.

‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Author Clarifies Sequel Update

Two years later, fans of Red, White & Royal Blue might be in for a happy ending soon.

After saying at a recent event that “pencils are kind of down for now” on the sequel, the literary source material’s author Casey McQuiston clarified the phrase on social media to put fans’ minds at ease.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘pencils down’ is a figure of speech that refers to when you’re taking the SAT or something and it’s time to put your pencil down bc the section of the test is done,” wrote McQuiston on their Instagram Story, according to DNA. “I’ve used this expression, like 100,000 times to describe the feeling of turning in a manuscript, it’s not that deep!”

Last May, Amazon MGM Studios announced they greenlighted development on the sequel after the first became Prime Video’s No. 1 movie in its global debut weekend, holding the position for three weeks.

Noting that there is no sequel to McQuiston’s original 2019 on which to base his sequel, writer-director Matthew López previously told Deadline that the author will still factor into the movie.

Matthew Lopez, Casey McQuiston, Uma Thurman, Nicholas Galitzine, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Rachel Hilson, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti at the Prime Experience Deadline Portrait Studio for ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ at Nya Studiuos on May 8, 2024 in Los Angeles, California

Michael Buckner for Deadline

“When we were starting this process, I kept saying that we’ll have succeeded at this adaptation…if you feel the same way at the end of the film, as you felt finishing the book,” said López last year. “There’s no book to guide us, but what we have is Casey’s original thoughts and original ideas.”

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine reunite for the sequel, which also sees López returning after making his feature debut with the original, penning the followup alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.

In Red, White & Royal Blue, President Ellen Claremont’s (Uma Thurman) son Alex (Zakhar Perez) has an embarrassing encounter with Prince Henry (Galatzine), threatening US/UK relations and his mother’s reelection campaign. While attempting to clean up the bad press, the pair is forced to pretend to be best friends, during which the unlikely pair secretly falls in love.

Having chronic eye pain? Eye surgeon shares 6 red flags of glaucoma to never overlook | Health

Glaucoma, often called the silent thief of sight, is an optic disorder that can cause irreversible vision loss. What makes it especially dangerous is that it develops quietly, without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.

What makes glaucoma more dangerous is the absence of early prominent symptoms.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Vineet Sehgal, senior glaucoma specialist, Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals said, “Most of the times, the patient might not be knowing that he is having glaucoma. Glaucoma significantly affects the optic nerve, and when the symptoms become pronounced, it indicates permanent damage.” Also read | Doctors call glaucoma the ‘silent thief of sight’: Here’s how to stop it and save your eyes from permanent blindness

Dr. Vineet Sehgal further listed the red flags of glaucoma to watch out for, to address it immediately.

1. Frequent change of power of near glasses:

Frequent change of power of near glasses might be suggestive of glaucoma.

2. Halos around the lights:

Rainbow rings or halos can be experienced by patients having high eye pressure.

3. Eye pain or headache:

Patients with acute onset glaucoma may present with headache, stony eyeball, redness, and nausea.

4. Loss of peripheral vision:

The patient may complain that he is not able to see the objects/vehicles coming from the side. Also read | Why early detection is crucial for glaucoma? Doctor explains warning signs to watch out for

5. Family history of glaucoma:

While there are no symptoms, being a close relative of someone with glaucoma increases your risk. In such cases, regular eye check-ups should be one’s priority, even if there are no symptoms.

6. History of diabetes, eye injury and drugs:

History of injury to the eye, high power of glasses, Diabetes, use of steroids, and drugs like antidepressants are risk factors which warrant regular eye pressure monitoring and check-up.

“Early detection is the best defense against glaucoma. It is recommended to have a comprehensive eye exam every year after the age of 40, or earlier if you have a family history or other risk factors. Don’t ignore the small changes in your vision; your body is always giving you signs that something is wrong,” said Dr. Vineet Sehgal.
