“On the rise To the world.” This is going to be massive! At a special presentation in the city of Hyderabad, India, beloved Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli revealed a vivid first look his next new movie – officially titled Varanasi. The project had originally been known by its codename Globetrotter, before the final reveal at this major event featuring largest outdoor projection screen in India to hint at it being made for IMAX. Along with the name, Rajamouli debuted this 3 min first look promo. There is one shot real of mega famous Telugu actor Mahesh Babu riding a bull, carrying a trident for a weapon. The rest of it is just epic concept art. Plot details are sparse so far, however Babu’s character Rudhra been described as an “Indiana Jones-style archeologist on a globetrotting search for ancient artifacts.” This trailer reveals a grand “time-travel adventure” inspired by Hindu mythology – and the title is a reference to an actual city important to Hinduism. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime project,” Babu stated. “I will make everyone proud.” The cast includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas along with Prithviraj Sukumaran as the main villain sitting a wheelchair with Doc-Ock robo arms. “RRR” director S.S. Rajamouli has unveiled the first look of Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini in his upcoming globe-trotting adventure film.

The film is described as “an original action-adventure epic following heroes on a series of perilous missions around the world.”

Ever since the global smash hit “RRR” claimed the Oscar for best original song and recalibrated Indian cinema’s global ambition, Rajamouli has set his sights higher. The film unites the director with Telugu cinema superstar Mahesh Babu and welcomes international star Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Malayalam powerhouse Prithviraj Sukumaran.

The title of the film will be revealed at a fan event in Hyderabad this weekend.

Rajamouli’s earlier two-part “Baahubali” saga, re-edited as “Baahubali: The Epic,” landed this year as a single film. 

Jonas returns to Indian cinema with a splash with Rajamouli’s film, portraying the enigmatic Mandakini’ in a first look that sees her in a mustard saree, pistol in hand, balanced on a cliff edge.  Her recent credits include her Prime Video film “Heads of State” (2025), alongside Idris Elba and John Cena, and her short-film contribution to the Oscar-nominated “Anuja.”

Telugu cinema superstar Mahesh Babu is working with Rajamouli for what is billed as his 29th film (hence the working title SSMB 29).  His recent release, “Guntur Kaaram” (2024) was a box office success and now he’s stepping into a much larger, globe-spanning canvas. 

Originating from Malayalam cinema, Prithviraj Sukumaran is now a pan-India star with film like “Salaar” and the “Lucifer” franchise. Already known for intense roles across systems, his participation signals the project’s ambition to blend South Indian star power into a unified global offering.

SS Rajamouli’s remastered film Baahubali The Epic re-released in cinemas on October 31. Rana Daggubati shared that he has seen the 3 hour-long cut.

Actor and producer Rana Daggubati is busy promoting his upcoming release Kaantha. Amid this, he was also reminded of the re-release of Baahubali: The Epic, which is one of the most iconic films of his career. The actor was in conversation with Galatta Plus where he shared his thoughts on seeing the film and how it has been received by the audience, in almost setting a benchmark for Indian Cinema.

What Rana said

When Rana was asked whether he had been able to see the 3-hour 40-minute cut of the film, he said yes, and shared what it is like to watch the film a decade after release: “It is fun because that was the first story that was told to us. It was supposed to be one film at some point. It was just a long one film… it was just so amazing to revisit that and that we got to see it a decade later and still has aged beautifully, on the big screen.”

He added, “In India you grow up with stories of mythology, stories of wars and gods and kings, and the only reference you have as a feature film is Baahubali… that this is how the warriors of Mahabharat could have been. The fact that it came on screen, with a vision of someone like Mr Rajamouli who pushed each boundary- that whole team just went all out to make that film. That’s something that will always be the largest impact of my life.”

About Baahubali The Epic

The film is a compilation of Rajamouli’s blockbusters Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). Prabhas plays dual roles, alongside Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, Rana Daggubati and Nassar in key roles. The re-release was remastered, with both sound and visuals receiving a complete overhaul before its return to cinemas.

Baahubali: The Epic Collections: SS Rajamouli’s Film Earns Rs 17 Crore

Baahubali: The Epic (combining the original two Baahubali films into one) which released on October 31 has set the cash registers. Fans of the franchise are experiencing the nostalgia and the grandeur of Mahishmati. After two days, the Rajamouli directorial has netted around Rs 17 crore in India. The collections yet again demonstrate why he remains one of the finest storytellers in Indian cinema.

Powerful comeback

After earning around Rs 9.65 crore on the first day (October 31), Baahubali: The Epic continued its successful run at the box office on its second day. The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati-starrer collected Rs 7 crore at the ticket window on Saturday taking its overall collections to Rs 17 crore. (The special screenings on Friday earned Rs 1.15 crore). With Sunday being a holiday, the film is likely to cross the Rs 20 crore milestone at the domestic market. These numbers are phenomenal for a re-release film, and trade analysts comment that Baahubali: The Epic made a powerful comeback to the theatres. Many stated that the idea of clubbing two parts, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion, into one resonated with the audiences. Moreover, the film has a personal connection too with the audiences. They look at the fantasy drama as a film that catapulted Prabhas to a Pan India superstar, and Rajamouli to one of the acclaimed directors in the country

Baahubali: The Epic, the new version has a run time of approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes with select sequences for a refined experience. Interestingly, towards the end of the film, there’s a teaser of an animated 3D film in the world of Baahubali titled Baahubali: The Eternal War. It is a 3-hour-30-minute combined version of the two live-action films. The visuals received a stunning response from the audience. Rajamouli recently revealed that the estimated budget of the Ishan Shukla-animation film was Rs 120 crore. However, no release date has been announced for the film so far.

“Always a Treat to Watch Fahadh Faasil” – SS Rajamouli’s Son Karthikeya

What will happen when two powerhouses who crave for performance and excellence collaborate? Malayalam superstar Fahadh Faasil will be starring in an upcoming Telugu film, Don’t Trouble The Trouble, which will be bankrolled by SS Karthikeya under Showing Business banner, and presented by ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli. The breezy entertainer is Karthikeya’s maiden production venture, which will also be produced by Shobu Yarlagadda of Arka Media works – the makers who backed Baahubali franchise.

“Film filled with surprises”

The announcement of the project took place in March 2024, but it took time for things to go on to the floors. Directed by Shashank Yeleti, the makers promise the film to be a fun ride and full of surprises. The principal shooting began in Hyderabad on Saturday. And an excited Karthikeya took to his social media handle to reveal the news along with an on-the-sets picture featuring himself, Fahadh Faasil and the director. Stating that it’s always a treat watching Fahadh perform, Karthikeya described the actor as one of those rare actors who can effortlessly slip into any role he plays. He said, “Every time he’s on screen, you can’t look away.”

“A dream and a huge responsibility”

Adding that he admired Fahadh for years for the honesty, stillness, and the madness in his eyes, Karthikeya says that it’s a dream and a huge responsibility to bring the Malayalam superstar to Telugu cinema with his maiden production along with Shobu Yarlagadda. Karthikeya also exuded confidence that director Shashank Yeleti will surprise the audiences with his directorial finesse.

According to the producer, Don’t Trouble The Trouble is wild, fun, and full of surprises. Karthikeya further shared that the entire team has poured their hearts into it, and he feels glad the film is finally rolling out by commencing its first schedule. It may be noted that in March 2024, the two production houses have also announced another film titled Oxygen, (starring Fahadh Faasil) to be directed by Siddhartha Nadella.

With the Baahubali movies, SS Rajamouli gave an unforgettable treat to movie lovers. Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion were released in 2015 and 2017, respectively. The films starred Prabhas in the lead role, and his career changed drastically with these movies. Rajamouli’s films left such a great impact that many Indian celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, were also in awe of them.

Even before, South Indian movies gained mainstream nationwide attention, Shah Rukh expressed his admiration for the films. The Dunki star has often appreciated SS Rajamouli’s movies in the past. At one such instance in 2017, the superstar praised Prabhas starrer Baahubali and Rajamouli’s vision and guts.

As per The New Indian Express, SRK revealed he had seen only the first Baahubali movie. However, he called Rajamouli’s film “extremely inspiring.” He said that these movies are successful not only with numbers but also with the director’s vision and thoughts.

“No guts, no glory… and Baahubali stands for that. Technology, of course, will always be a huge part of cinema. I believe that. I would never discount the fact that other kinds of films can also be made. They’re fantastic and beautiful… Before technology came in, we still made wonderful films. But if you want to create that big cinema and that big dream to sell to a big number of people, you have to have guts to take that storytelling on and say it in the biggest, nicest, boldest way possible. Baahubali stands for that,” Shah Rukh Khan mentioned.

The actor also said that SS Rajamouli is always inspirational, no matter what films he makes. SRK added that such movies encourage filmmakers, including him, to make such movies. Along with Prabhas, the Baahubali movies also starred Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nassar and Sathyaraj.

What Next For Shah Rukh Khan? 

SRK is all set to appear in the highly-anticipated upcoming film, King, which also stars his daughter Suhana Khan. While not much is known about the movie so far, it is being billed as of Bollywood’s biggest new projects with a star-studded ensemble.

What Next For Prabhas & SS Rajamouli? 

Prabhas has a prominent line-up ahead, with films like The Raja Saab, Fauji, Spirit, and Salaar: Part 2 – Ceasefire on the cards. Meanwhile, Rajamouli is currently working on Baahubali: The Epic a remastered, and re-edited compilation of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion. He is busy with SSMB29 with Mahesh Babu.

Global icon Priyanka Chopra has officially arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, to join the shoot of SS Rajamouli’s upcoming mega-project, tentatively titled Globetrotter. The project, also known as SSMB29, stars Mahesh Babu in the lead and is touted as one of the most ambitious films in Indian cinema history.

Priyanka Shares Glimpses from Nairobi

Stepping out on her Instagram stories, Priyanka gave her fans a glimpse of her stay in Nairobi with pictures that capture the natural beauty and colors of East Africa. She assured fans of her work in the film, which is in pre-production mode at the moment, with full-scale shooting to be initiated shortly.

Originally slated to start shooting in July, the production was pushed back because of political instability in the area. But producer KL Narayana has now confirmed that the shooting will start in the third week of September, going to cover varied locations in Nairobi, Kenya, and the stunning scenery of Tanzania.

Plot: A Rugged Explorer’s Epic Quest

In a recent report by Tanzania’s The Citizen, the movie tracks a rugged explorer on a mission to rescue the world from an overwhelming foe. Combining daring action, ancient mysteries, and stunning visuals, the plot is inspired by traditional adventure epics such as Indiana Jones.

As the hero travels through unknown lands, he faces lethal obstacles, faces the raw fury of nature, and discovers a lost secret that may change the destiny of mankind. With MM Keeravani scoring the music, the movie guarantees an immersive movie experience.

On Mahesh Babu’s birthday, director SS Rajamouli posted a heartfelt message to fans stating that the first look of the movie will be revealed in November 2025. Although not officially named, the statement pretty much confirms that “Globetrotter” is the name selected for the movie.

Rajamouli explained, “The scale of this film is so big that press meets or photographs can’t encompass it. We are creating something absolutely never-before-seen for the reveal.”

A Global Blockbuster in the Making
