Doctor explains how smoking impacts the body and what happens when you quit: ‘Within 2 to 12 weeks, circulation…’

That satisfying drag during a work break might feel like a moment of calm, but every puff silently harms your lungs. Most people know smoking damages the body – but what many don’t realise is how quickly it begins to heal once you stop. The recovery starts almost instantly, with your lungs and circulation showing signs of repair within weeks.

Dr Kunal Sood, an anesthesiologist and interventional pain medicine physician, has outlined how smoking impacts the body – and the remarkable changes that begin once you quit. In an Instagram video posted on November 7, the physician highlights, “Over time, smoking can increase the risk of lung disease, heart problems, and nicotine addiction. Make sure you take the appropriate steps to quit smoking, and seek professional help if needed.”

What happens to your body when you smoke?

Dr Sood explains that smoking doesn’t just damage the lungs – it gradually stiffens them, reducing their ability to expand and function efficiently. He explains, “Tar plus over 7,000 chemicals weaken the cilia that clear your airways. That leads to chronic cough, mucus plugs, chronic bronchitis, emphysema or COPD, and a much higher risk of lung cancer.”

The physician adds that smoking weakens the lungs’ immune defences, making them more prone to infections, slower recovery, and reduced exercise capacity.

What happens when you quit?

Dr Sood says the good news is that the moment you quit smoking, your body begins repairing itself almost immediately. He elaborates, “Within two to 12 weeks, circulation and lung function improve. After 1 year, heart disease risk drops by about 50% and by 10 years, lung cancer risk is about half that of a continuing smoker.”

He emphasises that quitting entirely is the single most powerful step you can take to protect and restore your health. In addition to quitting, he recommends getting support, building cardio and practising daily breathing exercises. The physician adds, “For lung wellness, alongside quitting, it’s also a great option to improve your gut lung axis. A healthier gut can help support balanced inflammation and respiratory health.”

bitchy | Mail: Duchess Meghan’s publicist quit, this is the royal scandal of the week!

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

It seems the British media is done talking about Prince Andrew’s depravity and all of the crimes he’s committed. They’ve successfully deflected everything to “should Andrew be kicked out of Royal Lodge” and “look, the Windsors are doing another dumb half-measure to punish Andrew.” Another key part of Operation Deflect From Andrew is the British press’s favorite standard: attacking the Duke and Duchess of Sussex no matter what. Throughout this week, Mail columnists have been trying to keep up the attacks, even as it became abundantly clear that the monarchy has done the most to protect a serial sexual predator for decades. “But Meghan went to Paris,” they cried. “But Meghan’s business is struggling, we swear!”

Well, the Mail’s Alison Boshoff has a new exclusive: Meghan lost another staffer! Back in June, the Sussexes did a major housecleaning on their comms team, letting go of some of their comms people and hiring Emily Robinson, who used to work for Netflix (and did publicity for The Crown). I said at the time that Meredith Maines – the comms guru who was hired in February – was probably behind all of the June streamlining. Well, now it looks like Emily Robinson has left the Sussexes’ employ!

The Duchess of Sussex has parted company with her tenth publicist in just five years after a big name she poached from Netflix quit after just three months. Emily Robinson joined Harry and Meghan’s team as director of communications in June, but she has already jumped ship.

Ms Robinson was always a controversial hire as she had worked on The Crown for years – a show which aired a number of damaging narratives about the Royal Family. The final series included scenes in which the ‘ghost’ of Princess Diana appeared to speak to The Queen and Prince Charles, which many found insensitive.

One friend of LA-based Robinson, who built up a reputation as a ‘tough cookie’ at Netflix, said: ‘It was her decision. She left a few weeks ago. She’s not a quitter, so things must have been pretty horrible for her to go.’

Ms Robinson’s LinkedIn profile does not currently include any reference to having worked with the couple, but other roles which she has held are listed.

Ms Robinson is at least the tenth publicist to leave the employ of Meghan and Harry since they left the UK for California five years ago (although two former publicists, James Holt and Miranda Barbot, have been promoted into non-PR roles). Remaining on their team are Liam Maguire, director of communications in Europe, and Meredith Maines, their chief communications officer. They met the King’s press secretary, Tobyn Andreae, this summer – which is thought to have paved the way for Prince Harry to briefly see his father last month.

The couple have suffered numerous PR disasters, most recently the duchess’s surprise trip to Paris Fashion Week.

[From The Daily Mail]

“…Most recently the duchess’s surprise trip to Paris Fashion Week…” Ah yes, the publicity disaster of “Meghan drawing global headlines for looking amazing at the Balenciaga show.” Obviously, that’s why Emily left! She was like, no, I cannot have my client getting so much attention at Paris Fashion Week! It’s far more likely that Robinson left for a better job, or maybe there’s another restructure happening within Archewell, especially with Meghan focusing so much on As Ever. I’m defending the Sussexes’ comms team FINALLY because this year, they’ve really turned things around. Some of us had begged them for years to be more responsive, and to not allow these evil f–king narratives to fester unchallenged. And this year, we saw those changes. I believe it’s because of Maines as well.

Zaira Wasim, who quit Bollywood in 2019 at just 18, has now shared a major life update: her marriage. Once celebrated as one of Bollywood’s most promising newcomers, the Dangal star rose to fame quickly but chose to leave the industry to focus on her faith. Since then, she has lived a quiet, private life away from the limelight, rarely sharing personal updates. However, in a surprising move, Zaira recently took to social media to reveal that she has tied the knot, marking a new and meaningful chapter in her journey beyond the film industry and public attention.

Zaira Wasim Marries in an Intimate Nikaah Ceremony

On October 17, 2025, Zaira shared two serene photos from her nikaah ceremony on Instagram. In one, she’s seen signing the nikaah nama (marriage certificate), her henna-adorned hands and golden bridal attire adding to the charm. The second picture beautifully captures her and her husband standing side by side, gazing at the moon. Keeping it simple and heartfelt, she added a traditional caption to the post. “Qubool hai ×3”.

The 23-year-old former actress chose not to reveal her husband’s face, continuing to keep both her personal life and her partner’s identity private. She has maintained this same level of discretion since stepping away from the entertainment industry. Her post quickly went viral, drawing heartfelt messages and warm reactions from fans and colleagues. One user commented: “Ek time tha jab dangal movie aye thi, and you are my crush that time mein hamesha apke bare mein he sochta tha, but apka transformation towards islam ek bhout he pyaare cheez hue hai Allah apko hamesha khus rakhe. Zaira aap bhout pyaari hai.” Simultaneously, another fan commented, “Allah aapko hamesa khush or aabad rakhe bhut bhut mubarak sister.” Many fans also applauded the newlyweds for maintaining a simple and private celebration.

Steve Harvey Says He Quit Standup Because of Cancel Culture

Steve Harvey Says He Quit Standup Because of Cancel Culture

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

In a development that hopefully won’t be included in his forthcoming biopic, actor-comedian Steve Harvey has admitted that he retired from stand-up due to “cancel culture.” We sure it wasn’t all those flubs on stage, Mr. Harvey?

Harvey’s comments came during a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast (via Complex). He explained that he saw a significant shift in comedy coming down the cultural pipeline, and dropping stand-up was a necessary reaction to the forthcoming upheaval.

“You remember, I said change is inevitable. You got to react or participate,” Harvey said. “So my participation was to get away from it because the cancel culture started becoming everywhere. Comedy is too hard to do right now. And all you got to do is look now the way the cancel culture works.”

Harvey added that, despite the lucrative nature of his stand-up career, he ultimately chose to step away after more than 30 years on the road. “That’s why I left stand-up in 2012, 2015 — one of them,” he said. “I had so many shows and had built such a catalog of work that I was making money, but I had to let something go. If I toured on the weekends, I wouldn’t even have a family.”

Related Video

This isn’t the first time Harvey has rallied against cancel culture. During a 2022 panel appearance for the Television Critics Association, Harvey said that “no standup [comedian] alive that is sponsor-driven can say anything he wants to,” citing the likes of Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, and D.L. Hughley. At the time, Consequence pointed out that, despite significant backlash for transphobic remarks, the similarly seasoned Dave Chappelle still performed at Netflix’s L.A.-based comedy fest. But then poking holes in these kind of “arguments” isn’t really the point.

No, what Harvey and other denouncers “cancel culture” are really talking about is a kind of artistic/comedic stagnation. These comedians want to be allowed to say what they want and whenever they want, and to counter their claims is somehow an attack on them and free speech itself. Fortunately, not every comic agrees with Harvey and his ilk. In a 2021 appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast, Katt Williams said that “Cancellation doesn’t have its own culture,” and that a lot of this ongoing discourse is really about minority groups policing themselves/their culture. He added that it’s a comedian’s job to adapt to ever-shifting social norms, explaining, “Nobody likes the speed limit, but it’s necessary.” And, of course, Anthony Jeselnik has made regular rants against these “anti-accountability” comedians during his own sets.

Harvey’s latest comments came at a time when comedians are actually being cancelled due to the democracy-busting actions of President Donald Trump. In July, the Late Show with Stephen Colbert was axed due to “financial reasons”; though some critics believe the Trump Administration leveraged a Skydance-Paramount deal to silence the outspoken Colbert. Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was recently suspended (and potentially pulled from the air outright ) after his (mostly innocuous) comments surrounding the recent assassination of alt-right activist Charlie Kirk. And with Trump making thinly-veiled gestures toward the shows of both Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers, it seems like comedians actually trying to do good work are facing unintended consequences. But I guess comedy’s truly dead if you can no longer make, like, the same dumb jokes about pick-up lines.

Check out Harvey’s Pivot appearance below. The cancel culture comments begin near the 37-minute mark.

Ileana D’Cruz says she almost quit Barfi after Anurag Basu lashed out at her on set: ‘I cried and called the producer’

For Ileana D’Cruz, Barfi remains a special film of her career. But there was a moment when she decided to quit the film midway when filmmaker Anurag Basu shouted at her for no reason, leaving her feeling offended.

Anurag Basu’s Barfi with Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz in the lead role was released in 2012.

Ileana D’Cruz looks back at Barfi memories

Ileana walked down the memory lane and spoke about her experience of working with Anurag Basu during an interview with NDTV. The film also featured Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead role.

“One morning, I just walked in super happy in the morning on set and I was like, hey, how’s it going? And he was in a very bad mood. Something ticked him off and he lashed out on me and I got really offended. So, I said, Dada, listen, if you think I’m not right, for this role and if you’re not happy with the work I’ve done, I’ll leave. I’m not going to sue you. I will leave. I love the story so much and it won’t make me happy to be in a film like this if you don’t think I’m right for the part. He went one way I went the other way crying and called the producer. And I said, no, I’m leaving,” Ileana said.

She added, “I spoke to Vidya’s husband, Sid, and he said he’s on his way, just do the scenes. So I go, get ready, have my makeup on, And Dada comes walking back in and he’s the only one who used to call me Ilu. I don’t allow anybody call me Ilu. And he just simply said that I walked in at a bad time, and not to take him seriously. We laughed it off and hugged it out.”

About Barfi

Barfi was released in 2012. The film starred Ranbir, Ileana and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. It was directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under UTV Motion Pictures.

Set in Darjeeling and Kolkata in the 1970s, the film focuses on Barfi (Ranbir), a deaf-mute man based in Darjeeling, and his relationships with Shruti (Ileana) and autistic Jhilmil (Priyanka). The film also featured Saurabh Shukla, Ashish Vidyarthi, Jisshu Sengupta, Roopa Ganguly and Haradhan Bandopadhyay.

About Ileana’s recent film

Ileana was last seen in Shirsha Guha Thakurta’s 2024 romantic comedy Do Aur Do Pyaar, which also starred Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Kendall Jenner planning to quit modelling and TV

Kendall Jenner is planning to give up her life in the spotlight and focus on designing houses.

Kendall Jenner is planning to walk away from her career to focus on designing houses

The 29 year old shot to fame on her family’s reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians as a child before launching a career as a model and she now juggles her runway work with filming their latest show The Kardashians – but Kendall is adamant she’s planning to walk away from the entertainment industry because she’s prefers “the simple life”.

She told Vogue magazine: “I swear to God, I’m going to stop everything and just design homes. I’m not kidding …

“I love my space in LA, but I also really love the simple life. I like getting up every morning and throwing on a bathing suit or sweatpants and no make-up and just being free with my day …

“I’ve taught myself more to just be open to whatever comes. I think about the future a lot, but I try not to overplan because you know I’m a planner.”

In the joint interview with pal Gigi Hadid, Kendall revealed she’s currently building a new house away from Los Angeles and Gigi admitted her friend is “one of the only people that I would let design a house for me”.

Despite growing up on TV, Kendall previously admitted her childhood always felt “kind of normal”.

The model made her first appearance on Keeping Up with the Kardashians back in 2007, but Kendall feels she and her younger sister Kylie Jenner were largely sheltered from the spotlight during their younger years.

During an appearance on Emma Chamberlain’s Anything Goes podcast, Kendall explained: “We went to school. We went to school as long as we could. I started home school, 11th and 12th grade.

“So even though we had a TV show at home, we were going to regular school all day and had our friends that we had from before the show started.

“It wasn’t always easy, but it did feel kind of normal …

“Overall I am really grateful because I think it could have been a lot worse. I think that Kylie and I, the one thing we had was a lot of stability, a lot of love and a really great support system and really great friends.

“So it felt like we could remove ourselves a lot of the time and be normal … There’s also an aspect of us being really grateful that we had older siblings that we got to see do things before us and lead us in a way.”

Ian Somerhalder tried to quit The Vampire Diaries

Ian Somerhalder wanted to quit The Vampire Diaries after season three of the show.

Ian Somerhalder tried to quit the TV show

The 46-year-old actor played Damon Salvatore on the teen drama series between 2009 and 2017, but Ian has revealed that he actually became disillusioned with the direction of his character after season three.

In an excerpt from I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diaries – which has been shared with Variety – Ian explains: “I was so upset about the trajectory of Damon, so much so that at one point I was sitting across from Julie [Plec, the show’s creator] in her office in Atlanta almost in tears — actually, my eyes were quite misty — and asked out of the show.

“I was so angry about it. I wanted off. Because I saw the writing on the wall. Damon was heading toward the love-interest role.”

Ian worried that Damon was being turned into a “sappy character” and he wanted to quit the show at the time.

The actor shared: “I was like, ‘S***, I’m in my early thirties, I’ve got a lot of this heat because of this show, I’m sure I could go find something that’s really cool and dark and edgy’. I was like, ‘They’re going to turn me into a sappy character.'”

However, Julie did her best to calm Ian’s fears and to encourage him to commit to the TV show.

Ian said: “Julie was like, ‘You’re not leaving the show. First of all, you’re one of the stars and one of the parts of the beating heart of the show; and two, you signed a six-year contract, so that’s not happening; and three, don’t worry, there has to be layers.'”

Meanwhile, Ian previously admitted that he considers his acting career to be “in the rearview mirror”.

The TV star turned his back on Hollywood in order to pursue a life of farming, and Ian insisted that he doesn’t have any intention of returning to the entertainment industry.

Speaking about his acting career and whether he might return to the business, Ian told People: “I think it’s in the rearview mirror. I do.”
