If there’s one skin-care company that internet beauty experts, professional estheticians and your fanciest friends are sure to unanimously endorse, it’s Biologique Recherche. The French spa brand, best know for its stinky-yet-effective P50 tonic, has built a loyal following for its use of …

bitchy | Duchess Meghan’s As Ever product drop today will include candles & a new wine

The Duchess of Sussex’s As Ever brand is doing a product drop today, in a short time. The items will apparently come online at noon on the East coast, 9 am on the West coast. I had my fingers crossed for a raspberry jam restock and I was hoping for some interesting new products. I didn’t expect Meghan to venture into candles! And mulled wine! And more! Women’s Wear Daily got a preview of the new As Ever items:

Meghan Markle has introduced the first holiday collection from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, marking the label’s expansion since its launch this past spring. Available exclusively on asever.com, the curated range includes candles, California-harvested honey, artisanal fruit spreads, mulling spice kits, and a limited-edition sparkling wine from Napa Valley.

The collection is inspired by the spirit of gifting and gatherings, reflecting the brand’s focus on home, celebration and everyday ritual. Among the highlights are two hand-poured candles crafted in California. Signature Candle No. 519, named after Markle’s wedding date (May 19) with Prince Harry, features Moroccan mint and white tea notes, while Candle No. 084 draws from her Aug. 4 birthday and carries hints of sandalwood, lotus and poppy. Both are housed in ceramic vessels and inspired by personal memories.

Also new this season is the 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut ($89), produced using the traditional méthode champenoise from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes. The sparkling offers crisp notes of green apple, pear and citrus, presented in a matte black bottle embossed with gold details.

Gift-ready provisions round out the line. The Fruit Spread Gift Set ($42) includes raspberry, orange marmalade, and a new strawberry variety made with simple, fruit-based recipes. The Honey Duo Gift Set ($62) contains Wildflower and Orange Blossom honeys sourced entirely from California apiaries, while Sage Honey with Honeycomb ($32) offers a raw, textured alternative tied to the herbs grown in Markle’s own garden.

Finally, two seasonal mulling kits — Spiced Cider and Hot Toddy ($16 each) — blend cinnamon, citrus peel, and ginger for home entertaining.

[From WWD]

You don’t understand, I’m THRILLED that she’s doing candles now. More candles! Everyone loves a candle and so many people give candles as gifts. I’m sure the honey-enjoyers will love the new honey offerings, and I’m sure that’s what will sell out the fastest too. Friendships will be broken over that honey, I’m sure – people are always fighting over it! The fact that Meghan is now on her fourth wine drop is amazing, and it shows that she has a real “taste” for what people want to drink. Are we only able to get the raspberry jam as part of a gift set? OMG. I can’t wait to buy some of this stuff.

Update: $64 for a little candle???? Nah. But raspberry jam is FINALLY back in stock! And some of those boxes will make nice Christmas presents.

In the Taylor Swift Economy, Fans Are the Product

Greed knows no bounds, and neither does Taylor Swift. Don’t hate me, Swifties! I know your eyes are finally opening, too. Please, allow me to give 10s where they’re due: Your fave is likely one of the biggest pop stars the world will ever see. But her business acumen might end up being more historical than her actual art.

After the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift has broken records with her biggest sales week ever: 2.7 million sales in the first 24 hours alone. Are you reading what I’m writing? This feat also marks the second-largest sales week for any album since 1991, when modern chart methodology began. Only Adele’s 25 has surpassed that number, selling 3.378 million copies in its first week in 2015. And again, Swift’s numbers are based on one single day of sales.

To call Taylor Swift an industry titan would be an understatement. She is the behemoth who stands above all. She makes history with her tours, her theater experiences, her merchandise, and chiefly, her ability to convince the same fans to buy the same album over and over again. A proclaimed self-made billionaire, Swift has made it to the top of her mountain of money by relating deeply to her fans, then convincing them to crack those pretty little wallets open. With Showgirl, Swift has done this multiple times over.

“File this under ‘save your best for the finale,’” Swift wrote on an Instagram post on October 4th, promoting multiple CD variants of her latest album that separately feature acoustic tracks not found on the standard version of Showgirl. “I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production! Cannot WAIT for you to hear.”

On October 6th, Swift would post something similar while hawking an additional deluxe version of the album, this time available only on iTunes for 24 hours! In addition to iterations found online, that makes for at least 11 different CD variants, and nine different vinyl editions released of the album. One exhaustively curated spreadsheet puts the total count at 28. These captions read like a gift to fans, but let’s call them what they actually are: sales pitches. You cannot WAIT for people to spend that bread, girl!

Taylor Swift has arguably the most loyal contemporary fanbase, the Swifties, which is the closest thing to a rival of Michael Jackson’s collective of stans, in terms of scale and fervor. Her appeal has always been emotional transparency. For years upon years, Swift has been able to depend on her ability to turn heartbreak into parasocial intimacy into empire. But it seems even Swifties get tired, as evinced by the comments on the official Taylor Nation Instagram fan page.

“This is so upsetting,” one stan wrote on a post pushing the limited CD variants. “I love Taylor, I do. But for the love of God why do you need so many variants? Why does one hard working fan have to buy seven different versions of an album instead of just having all of the songs be on one complete album? You have millions of dollars. Give us broke fans a break.”

A personalized, world-spanning battalion of money spenders is hard not to mobilize. Taylor Swift is aiming to break every record imaginable, and it starts with getting her product into the hands of the masses. In the Swift economy, fans are more than mere listeners — they’re shareholders, and Taylor rewards them accordingly. Not with the authentic intimacy that Swifties are constantly seeking, but with artificial access. You can own a piece of her empire, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

N.Hoolywood Test Product Exchange Service Fall 2025 Menswear Collection

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s a lot of play-acting in fashion, and it extends beyond “types” into materiality. This is especially true in menswear, where over the past few years work- and activewear have become trendy. Translating purposeful garments into fashionable ones often means stripping them of their original functionality; an office worker, for example, is unlikely to need the protection offered by a steel cap in a boot, but he might be all-in for the aesthetic.

Daisuke Obana’s N.Hoolywood Test Product Exchange Service occupies a middle ground between function and fashion. The very purpose of this line is to reinterpret military gear for urban use; at the same time, the idea, according to press materials, is that TPES be “recognized as an authentic military line,” which seems like a big ask. Expertise is the difference between this offering and others with a similar aesthetic. Obana is deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, working with his team to understand the history, setting, purpose of the vintage garments they find. For fall, the team focused on the British Special Forces; the result is a plethora of jackets and pants with plenty of zippers and utility pockets in a somber palette of khaki, olive drab, navy, and black, many of which look sturdy or warm. A number of pieces seem incredibly light in their make. Via email, Obana explained that many of the textiles used work new synthetic fibers into active fabrics.

In keeping with TPES’s style, this season’s “scenography” has a documentary feel. Photographed, Obana said, in “a training facility unofficially used by members of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces special units, [that] is also famous as a kind of holy ground for people who play serious survival games,” the models look like soldiers. This August marked 80 years since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II, following “the war meant to end all wars,” World War I.  Global peace remains elusive. Given the incessant reporting on the activities of ICE, the fact that some of the models wear face-hiding masks is triggering. (It’s difficult to pedal back and remember that these accessories have an actual protective function—warmth.) Having shared this reaction with the designer, he replied: “In Japan, images like these are shown in the media so routinely that people’s awareness has weakened. What begins with masks can easily extend to how we see war and crisis on the news—treated as if it were just part of everyday life. Through this visual, I wanted viewers to pause and reflect, to resist that sense of normalcy, and to hope for this global situation to end soon….” He continued, “Beyond politics, I believe it’s important for each of us to raise awareness so things can move toward resolution. Some may see my visuals as amplifying unease, but the reality is that people are risking their lives on battlefields. By confronting feelings of fear, urgency, or compassion, I hope we can take even a small step forward.”
