Priscilla Presley was with Elvis Presley for around 14 years before they split; however, the pair had known each other for years before they wed in 1967.

The time in between and following Priscilla and Elvis’ divorce was a tough spot for Priscilla, and one she wasn’t super open about — that is, until now. In her new memoir Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, the actress shares the difficult but inspiring journey beyond the walls of Graceland post-split with the King, choosing to put herself and her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, first.

Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis

A new memoir by Priscilla Presley.

If you didn’t know, Priscilla met Elvis when she was just 14 and he was 24. The singer was serving in the U.S. Army in 1959 in Germany. The pair remained romantically connected for years, even with distance between them and in 1967, they were wed in a simple and very secret ceremony in Las Vegas. While their separation in 1973 was painful for Priscilla, this novel highlights why it was so important for the Naked Gun star to leave.

It seems that Priscilla lost touch with herself throughout her relationship with Elvis. Leaving allowed her to find herself again. Through the book, we are treated to snippets of Priscilla’s life pre- and post-Elvis and how she had to reinvent herself a second time as the single mother after the performer’s death in 1977.

Today, we are taken through how Priscilla was able to transform Graceland into an international destination and helped guide the development of Elvis Presley Enterprises, turning the King’s legacy into a full-on business. If you are an Elvis fan, this gives readers a unique perspective on his life, as told by his ex-wife. It also gives Priscilla’s story more context for those who aren’t too familiar with her life and career.

Priscilla Presley’s Bombshell Memoir on MJ, Scientology, Lisa Marie

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Forty years after her first memoir, Elvis and Me, revolutionized the modern-day lore surrounding the King of Rock & Roll and his young bride, Priscilla Presley has released a new book that picks up where her last one left off.

In Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, the actress and author known mononymously as Priscilla delves into the life she forged for herself in the decades after she met Elvis at age 14, married him at age 21, and left the music legend in 1972. The new book, released Tuesday, is filled with heartache and loss. It follows the once deeply enigmatic first lady of Graceland from Memphis to Hollywood, through several subsequent relationships, and into the depths of her sorrow over the 2023 loss of her daughter Lisa Marie, her only child with Elvis.

While much of the book takes readers through the well-worn milestones of Priscilla’s highly scrutinized life, several passages give intimate new details. Here’s what we learned:

1. It was Elvis who first mentioned the possibility of abortion after Priscilla got pregnant

When Priscilla ended up getting pregnant on the couple’s wedding night, she was “stunned,” she writes. “Neither Elvis nor I was ready for a child. He worried about what fatherhood would do to his career. His fans were still adjusting to him being a married man,” she says.

Priscilla confesses she was concerned, too, worrying what parenthood would mean for her fledgling marriage. “There would be no traveling, no romantic interludes for us to focus on each other. For weeks, Elvis and I worried in silence about what was to come,” she writes. She even fantasized about how she’d feel if she miscarried. But, according to the book, “it was Elvis who finally brought things to a head.”

Editor’s picks

“He looked at me one day and asked if I wanted to have an abortion,” she reveals. “He told me he’d support whatever I wanted. His words were a wake-up call. The enormity of it hit me head-on, and I began to cry. I told him, ‘No! We can’t do that. This is our baby!’” After Lisa Marie was born, “we fell hopelessly in love with her. We could not imagine our lives without her,” she writes.

2. Elvis once called while she was in bed with Robert Kardashian

Priscilla famously dated Robert Kardashian, father of reality star Kim Kardashian, in 1975, a few years after her divorce from Elvis. She writes that Elvis would have been jealous of the relationship, so she concealed the fact she was in bed with the telegenic lawyer when Elvis called one night at 2 a.m. to boast about a performance. She leapt out of the covers and tiptoed down the hall to take the call in private.

“Despite our divorce, he still couldn’t wrap his head around my being with someone else. He’d have gone ballistic, maybe literally, if he’d known Robert was in my bedroom,” she writes. “Elvis always carried a loaded gun, sometimes more than one. I put my hand over my mouth to stifle the sound of my yawn while Elvis continued to talk.”

3. She says Robert Kardashian wanted to marry, and Kim connected them before he died

Presley says Kardashian wanted to tie the knot, but they weren’t a good match. Twenty years later, when Kardashian defended O.J. Simpson in his murder case, Priscilla believed it was crushing for the famed attorney, who was incredibly loyal. “The realization that his friend had committed the murders nearly destroyed him,” she writes. (Simpson was acquitted at his criminal trial but later found liable for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, at a civil trial.)

Priscilla claims that when Kardashian was in the hospital, dying from esophageal cancer in 2003, Kim Kardashian called to connect the two one last time. “Robert and I had one last conversation before he died. He was the kindest of men, and I remember him with great affection,” Priscilla writes.

4. She considered Michael Jackson a “manipulative man”

When Lisa Marie married Michael Jackson in a secret ceremony on May 26, 1994, Priscilla was “appalled,” she writes. She believed Jackson, who was 10 years older than Lisa Marie and a big fan of Elvis, was using her daughter for positive publicity as he battled allegations of child molestation.

“I knew in my bones that Michael wasn’t marrying Lisa Marie; he was marrying the Presley dynasty. The King of Pop was allying himself with the King of Rock & Roll. I didn’t believe he loved her,” Priscilla writes. “Michael was a manipulative man, and I think he had his sights set on her long before she realized it.”

5. Priscilla counseled Lisa Marie against having a baby with Jackson

During a walk on a beach in Hawaii, Lisa Marie allegedly turned to her mom and confided, “Michael wants us to have a child.” Priscilla immediately opposed the idea, recommending her daughter take things slow, she writes.

“I didn’t trust his motives. A child would be a proof of virility. And I couldn’t help wondering if he wanted to have Elvis’s grandchild,” she says, adding that Lisa Marie told her the newlyweds did indeed have a physical relationship, but that she “hardly” saw her new husband.

“Michael says that if I don’t want to have a baby, Debbie Rowe will have one with him,” Lisa Marie purportedly told her mom, according to the memoir. “Oh, boy. Big red flag. Thank God, Lisa agreed with me that it was better to wait,” Priscilla writes.

Lisa Marie filed for divorce from Jackson on Jan. 18, 1996, less than two years after the marriage. “She had begun to feel like the marriage was a setup. He didn’t want to be with her; he wanted to be with Elvis Presley’s daughter. If he’d wanted to be with her, he wouldn’t have been gone for most of their marriage.”

6. She says Lisa Marie’s bitter custody battle led to their estrangement

Priscilla writes that the year she had legal guardianship of her twin granddaughters, Harper and Finley, was one of “the best and most difficult” of her life. She cherished the time with the eight-year-old girls, but it only hardened Lisa Marie’s stance that she wanted sole custody of the twins amid a bitter divorce. In a “last-ditch” effort to fulfill her goal, Lisa Marie asked Priscilla to sign a deposition supporting her allegations that her estranged husband, Michael Lockwood, was unfit to be around them, Priscilla writes. (The memoir doesn’t specifically list the allegations, but Lockwood reportedly was investigated and cleared of claims that he had inappropriate photos of minors on his computer.)

According to Priscilla, her relationship with Lisa Marie suffered a devastating blow when she refused to sign the deposition. “I told her I couldn’t sign it, for I had never seen Michael behave in the harmful ways she was alleging. Signing it would be perjury,” Priscilla says. “In Lisa’s mind, I was the last hope to prove her charges. The court’s investigations of Michael had failed to reveal any wrongdoing or neglect on his part, so she had exhausted her legal options. Now I was refusing to back her up in court. To her, it was a betrayal.”

7. She suggests Scientology had a negative effect on Lisa Marie

In recounting Lisa Marie’s struggle with addiction, Presley says her daughter’s drug use climbed as high as 80 pills a day during her breakup with Lockwood. Lisa Marie was in a downward spiral, and she desperately needed professional help after stepping away from the Church of Scientology, Priscilla writes.

Trending Stories

“Though she had left the church, she retained some of its beliefs, including a distrust of psychologists,” Priscilla says. “She was still opposed to therapy, which would have given her a potential outlet for her feelings.”

Lisa Marie went into rehab in 2016. In a Today show interview in 2018, she recounted her struggles. “I was not happy,” she admitted in the interview. “I have a therapist, and she said, ‘You are a miracle, you really are.’ She said, ‘I don’t know how you’re still alive.’”

Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of Elvis Presley, has opened up about her relationship with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, two years after the two reached a high-profile legal settlement over Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. Amid a $50 million lawsuit from a former business partner, Priscilla told People magazine that she never fought with Riley.

Priscilla Presley says she’s ‘very close’ to Riley Keough

Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough made headlines in 2023 after they locked horns in a legal battle over Riley Keough’s mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. In her attempt to “clear some things up”, Priscilla told People: “Riley and I have never had a problem”.

The Dallas actress said.”We’re very close. We support each other,” Priscilla Presley added. She also said that she finds great joy in spending time with Riley’s children. “I love her babies. I’m really happy for Riley.”

“She’s got an amazing husband and two great children, so I’m happy for her very much,” the 80-year-old added.

Riley Keough married Ben Smith-Petersen in 2015. Keough gave birth to her first child, Tupelo, in 2022. The couple’s second child was born earlier this year.

“That’s what makes me happy: knowing everyone is doing well. I feel I’m living a good life,” Priscilla Presley said.

Judge Lynn Scaduto approved the settlement agreement between Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough in 2023. Priscilla received $1 million from Lisa Marie’s $25 million life insurance policy under the agreement, as per People.

Priscilla Presley on her ‘battle’ against Brigitte Kruse

While Priscilla Presley said she was on great terms with Riley Keough, the 80-year-old casually touched on her ongoing fight with former business partner Brigitte Kruse. Kruse and Kevin Fialko are suing Priscilla Presley for $50 million, citing fraud and breach of contract.

“I just have one battle, and that’s with a certain person,” Priscilla said. Kurse and Fialko have also alleged that Priscilla tried to remove Lisa Marie from life support to get control of the Elvis estate.

In her response, Priscilla told People that she and Lisa “were very close.” “Lisa could be hard-headed, but so could I sometimes. We had a lot of good times together,” she added.

Priscilla Presley has sued Kruse and Fialko in turn over financial elder abuse and theft of $1 million.

Lisa had been rushed to the hospital after her ex-husband Danny Keough—dad to Riley Keogh and the late Benjamin Keough—found her unresponsive at her home due to a small bowel obstruction that developed after a bariatric surgery she’d had years prior.

“Lisa really wasn’t breathing, so she was on the ventilator,” she recalled. “For hours we were there waiting, hoping and praying until the doctor came in and said, ‘Priscilla, I’m so sorry, she’s gone.'”

“We just couldn’t believe it—didn’t want to believe it,” she added of her family, including Lisa Marie’s twins Harper Lockwood and Finwood Lockwood, 16, who she shares with ex Michael Lockwood. “It was hard on all of us, it still is.”

Priscilla Presley ‘described taking daughter off life support in unpublished memoir pages’

Priscilla Presley is alleged to have described in unpublished memoir pages the moment she authorised doctors to remove her daughter Lisa Marie Presley from life support.

Priscilla Presley is alleged to have described in unpublished memoir pages the moment she authorised doctors to remove her daughter Lisa Marie Presley from life support

The 80-year-old is said to have detailed the alleged event in two pages reported to be part of her forthcoming memoir Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.

The pages were filed as exhibits in an amended complaint lodged in Los Angeles by Priscilla’s former business partners Brigitte Kruse and Kevin Fialko, according to Page Six.

In the alleged excerpts, Priscilla is said to recall being at a San Fernando Valley hospital following Lisa Marie’s admission in 2023 with a small bowel obstruction linked to an earlier bariatric surgery, after she was rushed in for treatment in January that year ahead of her death aged 54.

Priscilla apparently wrote: “The next thing I remember is the doctor talking to me. He asked me what I wanted him to do.

“They had restarted Lisa’s heart, but there was no guarantee it would keep beating.”

Priscilla allegedly then said she asked the medical team: “What kind of life will she have if we keep her on that machine?”

She is said to have written the doctor “looked at me with compassion and shook his head” as he said: “No quality of life at all”.

The alleged account continued: “I thought about my girl, my wild, rebellious, passionate girl, lying in a vegetative state for the rest of her life.

“‘Take her off the machine, Doctor,’ I said in a voice barely above a whisper.

“It was unbearable. I began to sob. I don’t remember falling. After that, everything went dark… I don’t want to remember.”

Brigitte Kruse and Kevin Fialko claim in their ongoing $50 million fraud and breach-of-contract lawsuit against Priscilla that she acted prematurely for financial reasons, in violation of Lisa Marie’s advanced healthcare directive.

Priscilla’s lawyers Wayne Harman and Marty Singer previously dismissed the claims as “shameful, ridiculous, salacious, and meritless”.

In a new statement to Rolling Stone, they added: “Priscilla did not have anything to do with the assassination of JFK, she did not cover up Area 51, she did not fake the moon landing, and she is not secretly keeping Bigfoot locked in a cabin in Canada.

“Take off the aluminum foil hat and face reality.”

They accused Brigitte of pursuing “a relentless and calculated campaign of elder abuse and fraud in order to take control of Ms Presley’s finances for her own benefit”.

Priscilla filed a countersuit in the case in 2024.

Her rivals’ attorney Jordan Matthews responded: “To date, Ms Presley has presented zero evidence in support of her salacious claims, and we intend to hold her accountable for her reckless behavior.”

Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis Presley, died on 12 January 2023 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

She was mother to four children and pre-deceased by her son Benjamin Keough, who took his life in 2020 aged 27.

Priscilla Presley’s Lawsuit Reveals New Details of Lisa Marie’s Death

by jummy84 September 6, 2025
written by jummy84

The former business advisers who claim Priscilla Presley prematurely ”pulled the plug” on her daughter for financial gain have filed an amended complaint purportedly shedding new light on Lisa Marie Presley’s final hours.

The new complaint, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, attaches two pages said to be from Pricilla’s upcoming memoir, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, due to publish on Sept. 23. The excerpts appear to offer a detailed account of the day Elvis’ only child died inside a San Fernando Valley community hospital from complications surrounding a small bowel obstruction linked to a prior bariatric surgery.

According to the pages labeled as court exhibits, Priscilla rushed to her daughter’s bedside and was holding her hand, stroking her face, and telling her she was loved as family members gathered. Lisa Marie’s eldest daughter, Riley Keough, was on a plane to join them when a “code blue” emergency alarm indicated Lisa Marie’s heart had stopped, the pages read.

“The next thing I remember is the doctor talking to me. He asked me what I wanted him to do. They had restarted Lisa’s heart, but there was no guarantee it would keep beating,” Priscilla purportedly writes. “I asked the doctor, ‘What kind of life will she have if we keep her on that machine?’ He looked at me with compassion and shook his head. ‘No quality of life at all.’”

In the excerpts, Priscilla allegedly claims Lisa Marie had “little brain activity” and that the daughter she knew as “always so vital, wasn’t there.”

“I thought about my girl, my wild, rebellious, passionate girl, lying in a vegetative state for the rest of her life,” she wrote, according to the exhibits. “I said what I had to. ‘Take her off the machine, Doctor.’ My voice was barely above a whisper.” She then broke down and blacked out.

“It was unbearable. I began to sob. I don’t remember falling,” she purpotedly wrote. “After that, everything went dark. … I don’t want to remember.”

Editor’s picks

Priscilla’s reps had no immediate comment when asked about the book excerpts on Friday. Her lawyers, Marty Singer and Wayne Harman, previously called the first version of the $50 million fraud and breach-of-contract lawsuit, filed last month by Priscilla’s former business advisers Brigitte Kruse and Kevin Fialko, “one of the most shameful, ridiculous, salacious, and meritless lawsuits” they had ever seen.

On Friday, Singer and Harman issued a new statement focusing on other claims in the amended complaint that alleged Priscilla pushed Elvis to an early grave. According to the new complaint, Priscilla’s efforts to increase her divorce settlement “exerted undue pressure on Elvis, pushing him to his death.”

“Priscilla did not have anything to do with the assassination of JFK, she did not cover up Area 51, she did not fake the moon landing, and she is not secretly keeping Bigfoot locked in a cabin in Canada. Take off the aluminum foil hat and face reality,” the lawyers said, before going on the offensive. They then claimed Kruse “engaged in a relentless and calculated campaign of elder abuse and fraud in order to take control of Ms. Presley’s finances for her own benefit.”

In a separate financial elder abuse lawsuit, filed last year, Priscilla claims Kruse and Fialko duped her into signing a series of contracts that gave her only minority interests in the companies they formed to exploit her name, image and likeness. For their part, Kruse and Fialko claim Priscilla entered the contracts knowingly, benefitted from their services and then cut them off, in breach of their agreements, when her fortunes changes in the aftermath of Lisa Marie’s death. (Video unearthed by Rolling Stone shows Priscilla signing the contracts at Kruse’s house with a lawyer present.)

“Apparently, Ms. Presley’s defense is to list off nonsense hyperbolic statements that have no substance. The documents are in black and white and speak volumes. To date, Ms. Presley has presented zero evidence in support of her salacious claims, and we intend to hold her accountable for her reckless behavior,” Jordan Matthews, the lawyer representing Kruse and Fialko, said Friday, responding to the latest statement from Priscilla’s lawyers.

Lisa Marie was 54 when she died in the hospital on Jan. 12, 2023. When Kruse and Fialko filed the first version of their Los Angeles lawsuit last month, they garnered headlines with their blockbuster claim that Priscilla violated Lisa Marie’s advanced health care directive. They attached the directive, in which Lisa stated she wanted her life “prolonged as long as possible within the limits of generally accepted health care standards.” The advisers claimed Presley discontinued life support “within hours” because she was estranged from her daughter and knew Lisa Marie was on the verge of removing her as the sole trustee of a $25 million life insurance trust. They said Priscilla already had been removed from her role managing Lisa Marie’s Promenade Trust and was facing threats of possible legal action from Lisa Marie.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, a few weeks after Lisa Marie’s death, Priscilla challenged Lisa Marie’s 2016 amendment to her main asset, the Promenade Trust. The amendment removed Priscilla as co-trustee and replaced her with Riley Keough, as well as Lisa Marie’s now deceased son Benjamim Keough, who died in July 2020. Priscilla was never a beneficiary of the Promenade Trust, so the change meant she lost her only influence over Promenade’s marquis assets, including Elvis’ Graceland mansion, its archives, and Lisa Marie’s 15 percent interest in Elvis Presley Enterprises, the company that owns and manages Elvis’ name, image, and likeness. Priscilla wanted the court to declare the amendment “invalid.”

Trending Stories

With a potential legal war looming, Keough reached a generous settlement with her grandmother in a matter of months. Under the deal, Priscilla received a $1 million lump-sum payment off the top of Lisa Marie’s $25 million life insurance policy. Keough also agreed to pay Priscilla $50,000 to resign as co-trustee of the irrevocable trust whose sole asset was the life insurance policy. And Priscilla was awarded an annual salary of $100,000 for 10 years for her new role as a “special adviser” to the Promenade Trust.

The next hearing in the elder abuse case is set for next week. The first case management conference in Kruse and Fialko’s breach of contract case is set for February.
