From rice to roti, carbs often get blamed for weight gain. Fitness coach Jeet Selal explains why smart eating and movement matter more for fat loss.

In today’s health-conscious world, everyone is searching for that one secret to lose fat without compromising energy or overall well-being. From intermittent fasting to detox drinks and low-carb diets, fitness fads come and go, yet the confusion around what to eat and what to avoid never seems to fade.

Fitness coach clarifies that cutting carbs like bread or rice is unnecessary for fat loss. (Freepik)

Fitness coach and sports nutrition expert Jeet Selal took to Instagram to debunk one of the most common misconceptions about fat loss that eating bread or rice prevents weight reduction. (Also read: Fitness coach shares a ‘life-changing exercise’ for people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond )

Should you stop eating carbs to lose weight

“Burn this myth that you can’t eat bread, you can’t eat rice for fat loss,” Jeet said in his video. “This misconception has been around for a long time, that to lose fat, you have to completely eliminate carbs. Which is completely wrong. Your body functions on carbohydrates, and if you stop eating them, where will you get your energy from?”

He further explained that sustainable fat loss has little to do with completely cutting out food groups and everything to do with following three simple principles.

What does your body really need for fat loss

“Fat loss simply means reducing body fat. To achieve that, you need three things. First, a calorie deficit, your body must burn more calories than you consume. Second, an adequate protein intake is necessary to preserve muscle mass. And third, movement, staying active, exercising, and keeping your body in motion. If you follow these three things, you will lose fat, whether you’re eating bread or rice.”

Jeet concluded his post by encouraging followers to focus on consistency rather than extreme diets.

AI Practical Usage Unpacked by the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

The real-world application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the audiovisual industry – controversies aside – will take center stage at Madrid’s Iberseries & Platino Industria on Oct. 1. Organized by the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, an economic interest group comprising over 100 Madrid-based companies, the workshop will study seven case studies, some from members of the Cluster.

The intent is to study how AI can be a useful tool rather than delve into how it could be replacing jobs, according to Iberseries director Samuel Castro.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Marketing strategy and distribution of audiovisual content;
  • Workflow management for scripted and unscripted audiovisual productions;
  • Artificial Intelligence applied to VFX and post-production in fiction and advertising;
  • Visibility of web content in the new ecosystem shaped by AI engines and large language models,
  • And creation of sports audiovisual content

Moderator Henar León, a technology expert specializing in the cultural sector, will guide the workshop and facilitate dialogue among the participants.

These are:

Brandominus – Víctor Guerra – CEO
A Spanish digital marketing agency specializing in data-driven strategies. Its methodology combines creativity, data and analytics to deliver marketing strategies that are 100% results-oriented. They serve as a strategic agency for the Spain Film Commission and the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, among other organizations. “Our participation in the panel is about the importance of AI in the visibility of brands and audiovisual content on search AI engines and on how the AI boom has changed the way we show up in search results – and what we need to change to adapt to the new search-ranking paradigm,” says Victor Guerra, CEO.

El Ranchito – Manuel Ramírez – President
Leading Spanish VFX studio known for visual effects work in productions such as “Game of Thrones” and “Society of the Snow.” Founded in 2004 by Félix Bergés and a team of top VFX professionals, El Ranchito is a Madrid and Barcelona-based studio known for delivering world-class visual effects with creativity, precision and collaboration at its core. With over 200 artists, the studio tackles global projects across film, TV and advertising. El Ranchito is part of Pitch Black Company, alongside Folks and Rising Sun Pictures, forming a global network of 1,400+ artists across 14 cities including Los Angeles, London, Montréal, Mumbai and Bogotá. “El Ranchito was born from the dream of creating a space where experience, knowledge, and teamwork would be at the heart of everything we do,” says Ramírez.

Metropolitana de Muntatges – Ramón Arteman – Director
A Barcelona-based post-production studio founded in 1995, with additional facilities in Madrid. Specializing in visual effects, CGI, color grading, and compositing, the company serves the advertising, film, and television industries. Known for its technical precision and creative expertise, Metropolitana offers end-to-end post-production services, including on-set supervision and previsualization. With a team of 25–50 professionals and nearly 30 years of industry experience, the company has built a solid reputation in Spain’s audiovisual sector. Metropolitana is also part of a select group of high-end post-production studios trusted by major agencies and producers for complex visual storytelling.

Moments Lab – Sofía Schenone – Sales Manager
Platform that uses AI to turn information into clear, actionable summaries, streamlining audiovisual production. The leading AI-driven video discovery company will announce the launch of Discovery Agent, an AI-powered tool built to help producers, creatives and video teams swiftly locate key scenes and standout moments across their media libraries. “By reducing the time spent sourcing key moments, Moments Lab enables teams to scale workflows, boost creativity and generate new revenue. The company’s new Discovery Agent introduces chat-based search, advanced semantic understanding and contextual insights to fuel high-impact storytelling,” says Schenone.

Pendular – Carlos Ballesteros – Co-Founder & CEO
Startup that applies AI to generate real-time statistics, analysis and visualizations for sports events. The Madrid-based AI company is transforming how sports content is created, distributed, and monetized, it notes. Its platform automates video production from live and archive footage, enabling rights holders to scale content delivery, engage fans and generate new revenue streams. Trusted by organizations such as the Australian Open and Premier Padel, Pendular combines cutting-edge technology with sports expertise to help clients maximize the value of their media assets efficiently and at scale. Says Ballesteros: “We’ll discuss how Pendular uses AI to generate real-time sports highlights using AI for broadcasters and leagues like the Australian Open.”

TBS – Telefónica Group – Óscar del Castillo (Head of Sports News) & Abel Muela Guerra (Head of Social Media for Sports)
Part of the Telefónica Group, one of Europe’s biggest telecoms, it specializes in entertainment and sports audiovisual content creation, production and distribution. The company offers a wide range of services including live sports broadcasting, streaming, technical production (studios, lighting, equipment), satellite and managed IP transmission and full production for specialized sports TV channels. In a joint presentation with Óscar del Castillo, Guerra will discuss the development of an AI-driven project for generating sports highlights on Movistar Plus+. “I will provide a practical demonstration showing how this AI tool automatically produces content for both the TV platform and Movistar Plus+ social media channels,” says Guerra.

The Film Agency – Sarah Calderón – CEO

An international marketing agency with over 12 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, working across films and series. It operates throughout the entire lifecycle of a project — from early development, through its Think Early department, to the launch phase, with the support of its Think Visual and Engagement departments. Its services include tailored marketing strategies, the creation of premium visual materials (such as trailers, posters, promos, digital assets, and pitch decks) and digital campaigns during festivals and releases. In addition, its Think Data department offers data-driven services designed to support decision-making processes. “I will be presenting some case studies about how we use AI in early stages marketing. It is becoming central for our audience-oriented strategies, data-driven solutions and pitch decks,” says Calderón.

‘Soft Loafers’ Are the Most Comfortable and Practical Shoe Trend of Fall 2025

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Of all the shoe trends for fall, soft loafers might be the most comfortable and practical. So naturally, it hasn’t taken them long to become a total favorite among fashion pros.

Not sure what we mean by “soft loafers?” They’re like classic loafers, just with a slimmer silhouette. And as the name suggests, soft loafers are characterized by being more flexible and, well, soft than their counterparts. This might include gathered edges, very thin and flexible soles, or other details that give the shoes an elegantly lived-in feel.

We’re seeing this manifest in a few different ways, from classically sleek loafer styles in more pliable fabrics to a newer hybrid that looks like a cross between a boat shoe and a moccasin. For both, the defining traits are a slim silhouette, a low flat heel, and buttery soft leather or suede fabrics. And we’re seeing style influencers wearing them with everything from mini skirts (almost always with socks) to trousers to maxi dresses.

Retailers are already betting big on this shoe trend, so you won’t have to look far to find soft loafers at your favorite stores. We’ve even shopped a few out for you, below.

Nicole Kidman Announces ‘Practical Magic 2’ Has Wrapped Production

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

With a swish of a wand and stir of a cauldron, Practical Magic 2 has officially wrapped production, star Nicole Kidman announced today on Instagram.

The Oscar winner shared a short behind-the-scenes clip of her and co-star Sandra Bullock walking away from the cameras on a sun-soaked meadow. Bullock, also an Academy Award winner, can be heard saying, “Profile shot? Let’s do a profile shot,” as Kidman bursts into laughter and embraces her.

“That’s a wrap on #PracticalMagic2! Thank you to the cast & crew for all your magic ✨,” Kidman captioned the video.

Kidman last commemorated the reunion of the Owens sisters on the first day of production in mid-July, posting a video of the duo filming a scene. “The witches are back,” she captioned the clip on Instagram. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”

A sequel to the cult classic 1998 original about two polar opposite sisters who are descended from a long line of witches, negotiations for original stars Kidman and Bullock to return as Gillian and Sally Owens, respectively, were first reported in June 2024. Praised for its feminist themes, soundtrack and genre-bending nature, the film followed the two family members and their aunts as they reckoned with the Owens curse, which dooms any man who falls in love with them. At the end of the Warner Bros. pic, the sisters form a quasi-coven with the townsfolk to break the ancient spell, triumphing over the curse and finally being accepted in their community as witches.

The sequel to the spooky movie is slated for release Sept. 18, 2026, with original cast Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing also returning as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances, the matriarchs who took in Sally and Gillian after their parents died. Meanwhile, newcomers include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod. Character details for the new faces are under wraps, as Deadline exclusively reported.

Susanne Bier directs the followup from a script by Akiva Goldsman, a co-writer on the original, and Georgia Pritchett (Veep, Succession). Bier has worked with both Bullock and Kidman before, directing 2018’s Birdbox and series The Perfect Couple.

The original film, helmed by Griffin Dunne, was based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name, grossing more than $47 million stateside. Hoffman has since published two prequels to that book, as well as a 2021 sequel called The Book of Magic. Though plot details about Practical Magic 2 are scant, producer Denise Di Novi told Entertainment Weekly last year it would draw heavily from the source material.

What is sustainable diet? Doctor shares 8 practical tips to stay healthy: Seasonal veggies, smart eating order and more

A sustainable diet is not restrictive, and instead supports long-term health by being realistic. Know how you can follow a sustainable diet.

There are a lot of diets trending lately that people are very quick to adopt. But one of the concerns with these quick-fix diets is the lack of longevity. Many get tired or give up midway because it feels too confining. Commonly, fad diets are too ambitious, cutting a number of different food groups, but the real solution lies in balance, moderation, and mindful choices that can be sustained in the long run. The way forward is adopting a diet which is enduring and, most importantly, realistic.

Dr Aparna Santhanam, dermatologist and holistic wellness coach, told HT Lifestyle that a sustainable diet helps to keep up with dieting for years as it’s not restrictive.

She explained, “A sustainable diet is not a short-lived food plan but a way of eating that you can enjoy and maintain for years. It focuses on balance, variety, and moderation, rather than rigid restrictions. The beauty of sustainable eating is that it not only protects long-term health but also makes daily meals more enjoyable, practical, and kind to the planet.”

Further, she highlighted how in the Indian food culture, where food is respected, sustainable eating is viewed as a way of building a natural habit to nourish the body.

Dr Santhanam shared 8 tips, demonstrating how to follow a sustainable diet:

1. Prioritise non-processed foods

  • Prioritise whole, minimally processed foods in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables, dals, and whole grains keep you fuller for longer.
  • For example, roasted chana or Makhana makes a far better snack swap nutritionally and sustainability-wise wise than a bag of store-bought potato chips.

2. Ensure smart eating order

  • Start meals with fibre-rich foods like salads or sautéed vegetables, then move to protein (dal, paneer, fish, eggs), and finish with carbs, which are largely grain-based in the Indian context.
  • This helps control sugar spikes, improves satiety, and keeps energy levels steady.

3. Adopt portion control

  • Instead of cutting out favourite foods, enjoy them in smaller servings. Sharing a dessert at dinner is both healthier and more satisfying.
  • At home, use smaller plates and bowls that visually cue abundance.

4. Add more proteins

• Add more plant-based proteins.

  • Mix in dals, sprouts, beans, and tofu regularly. This balances nutrition while reducing dependence on heavy meats.

5. Eat local and seasonal produce

  • Choose what’s naturally available, like mangoes in summer and carrots in winter, for freshness, better taste, and higher nutrition.
  • It is vital to stay attuned to nature’s seasonal rhythms.

6. Reduce food waste creatively

  • Yesterday’s dal can become dal paratha, or extra sabzi can be rolled into a whole-wheat wrap, and leftover rice can be made into cutlets with vegetables.
  • It’s fun and nourishing.

7. Stay hydrated wisely

Herbal teas like Chamomile and ginger tea have low-calorie content.(Pexels)

  • Replace sugary sodas with plain water.
  • The other option is light herbal teas for long-term metabolic health.

8. Make your plates balanced

  • An ideal Indian meal could look like this: start with a bowl of kachumber salad (fibre), followed by a serving of dal (plant protein and fibre), one dry sabzi like beans or bhindi (fibre + micronutrients), and a small portion of brown rice or jowar roti (complex carbs with additional fibre).
  • This mix ensures satiety, steady energy release, and a full spectrum of nutrients.
