There were no exceptions when tasked with powering the 2023 Ryder Cup. With 250,000 spectators on site each day and a global broadcast reaching over 3.7 million people, a robust and reliable energy solution was required, that also met the organisers’ objectives of delivering the most sustainable Ryder Cup.
The company combined solar power, batteries, and generators in a hybrid energy solution, supporting not only the main event but also the local infrastructure due to the isolated location of the course. This involved powering 4,106 road lights, in addition to the 104 tower lights installed across the venue.
The Ryder Cup Europe benefited from the resilient uninterrupted power required to put on the global sporting show – as well as an unprecedented cleaner energy supply, achieving one of their most sustainable events to date.

The partnership highlighted the opportunities for greener energy in events of all scales, from the planning stages to de-rigging.

Creating a unique and comfortable experience for attendees can require a climate different from that of the event location, which is where Aggreko’s expertise takes centre stage. Their flexible and scalable HVAC solutions include cooling, heating, dehumidification and air handling equipment, which are all rightsized to the application for maximum efficiency.
And through Greener Upgrades, they have also expanded their chiller fleet with models that run on CO₂/R774 an ultra-low GWP refrigerant, and R513A a lower GWP refrigerant.
