Final Emmy Predictions, As Chosen By Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

We did it! Well, almost. It’s just a few days until we finally learn who won the “Severance”/ “The Pitt” smackdown… and this weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys only added to the intrigue: Shawn Hatosy won guest actor for “The Pitt” and Merritt Weaver was named guest actress for “Severance,” splitting those two up nicely. “Severance” has a lead on “The Pitt” when it comes to win tally so far (6 vs. 2) — but then, “The Pitt” won for the all-important casting category, perhaps showing where the acting votes are headed.

On this episode of the Variety Awards Circuit podcast we talk to Emmys host Nate Bargatze about how this sunday’s awards show is shaping up. But first, on the Roundtable, we give our final predictions in all the major emmy categories. Listen below!

This year’s Emmys, produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, will include reunions timed to the 25th anniversary of ‘Gilmore Girls,’ with stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, as well as a 40th anniversary ‘Golden Girls’ tribute, as Reba McEntire leads a sing along of the show’s ‘Thank You for Being a Friend’ theme song.

Also, Mariska Hargitay will lead a tribute to the ‘Law & Order’ franchise, and Jeff Probst will celebrate the 50th season of ‘Survivor.’ Plus, Eric Dane and Jesse Williams will help mark the 20th anniversary of ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’

As for Bargatze, he’s excited to talk about his plan to keep acceptance speeches short by donating money to the Boys & Girls Club every time winners don’t go long. And he discussed the fact that he’s heading to Denver this weekend to perform standup before heading back here to host the Emmys.

“I think in my stand up, you’re along for a ride a lot more, and we don’t really veer out of it,” he says. “A night like this is going to be a little more present, a little more in the moment of what’s happening as stuff happens throughout the night. I’ve got to be prepared for anything that can happen. If you think of something funny at the moment, you’ve got to kind of trust it and just throw it out there and see if it works. It’s a lot more in the moment than my stand up is, which is very prepared and exactly I know where I’m going.”

Meanwhile, here is Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis’ final thoughts on the major Emmy categories:

Pushkin Industries Revs Fall Podcast Slate; Inside David Byrne’s Brain

by jummy84 September 5, 2025

Pushkin Industries is revving up a broad slate of shows for the fall as the audio studio looks to capitalize on the “network effect” among its creators and hosts that has been built up since the company’s founding in 2018.

Eric Sandler, chief strategy officer for Pushkin, discusses the company’s business vision, growth drivers and outlook in an interview on the latest episode of “Daily Variety” podcast. Among the highlights of Pushkin’s slate is a look back at “The Big Short” with author Michael Lewis. Pushkin will release the first audiobook edition of Lewis’ book, and Lewis will host a companion podcast to revisit the key events and key players of the 2008 mortgage crisis. The 2010 book led to the 2015 feature adaptation starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt.

“It speaks to the depth of the content that the creators we work with make,” Sandler says. “It’s ten years since the film, but it’s almost like a content pipeline reversal. Fifteen years ago, it was a best selling book. Ten years ago it was an Oscar winning film, and next month it’s going to be a companion podcast with an audiobook,” Sandler says. “It’s still as relevant today as it was when he wrote it.”

Sandler points to another example of what he calls Pushkin’s “network effect” to illustrate how the company uses audio as the content hub from which other media extensions sprout. Gladwell did a “Revisionist History” series “The Bomber Mafia” in 2021. It was then turned into a Pushkin audiobook. “And we did a little bit of a reversal of the pipeline, and we sold the print rights, and then it got optioned by A24 for TV-film,” Sandler says. “And so we want to create more opportunities for more storytellers to use this as a testing ground for content, really drive home really impactful stories, and be able to explore the funnel in a different way.”

David Byrne, as profiled in Variety‘s Sept. 2 issue.

Also in the episode, Jem Aswad, Variety‘s executive editor of music, details his recent sit-down with seminal musician David Byrne. As a longtime fan, Aswad brings great perspective to the profile of the former Talking Heads frontman published in Variety‘s Sept. 2 print edition and on Variety.com on Sept. 5. Meeting Byrne at his office was like getting a glimpse inside the psyche of an artist who has forged a sui generis career exploring music and storytelling in many different styles and forms, Aswad says.

Byrne’s “office is downtown New York, as you would expect. Of course, he rides his bike there. He rides his bike everywhere. It’s a loft-like space,” Aswad explains. “Walking in there is this vast floor to ceiling wall of shelves that are just loaded with stuff. And it’s sort of like looking at his brain, because it’s tons of vinyl and tons of CDs and tons of DVDs. There was a Grammy. There was an Oscar. I think there was a VMA Moonman as well. There were a couple of other things in there, but most striking were anatomical models. There were a couple of the human brain, and he actually opened the ‘American Utopia’ Broadway show, holding up a brain and talking about how our brains work.”

On the Podcast: Chloe Malle’s Big News! Plus: Sabrina Carpenter’s Hairstylist Evanie Frausto Is Full of Secrets

It’s been a big week for The Run-Through’s very own Chloe Malle, who was appointed American Vogue’s Head of Editorial Content on Tuesday. At the top of today’s episode, she and Chioma reflect on the news and on Chloe’s recent New York Times profile. (Tragically, her dog Lloyd was left on the cutting-room floor.)

British Vogue’s Radhika Seth also pops in to share her standout picks at the 2025 Venice Film Festival so far—from The Voice of Hind Rajab to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein—and what it’s really like to screen six films in one day (there is sleeping involved). This leads, in time, to a discussion of the group’s favorite red carpet moments, with Chloë Sevigny, Jacob Elordi, and Cate Blanchett all making the best-dressed list!

Later, celebrity hairstylist and wig master Evanie Frausto stops by the podcast studio to chat with beauty editors Arden Fanning Andrews and Kiana Murden. Together, they talk through Evanie’s star-studded roster—from Sabrina Carpenter to Rosalía—and the stories behind some of their most memorable styles (including Sabrina’s DIY bangs). Evanie also shares the differences between working with musicians and actors…and how he dreamed up Lady Gaga’s now-iconic “Die With a Smile” wig.

Jonas Brothers Tour Making Every Concert an Event: Pop Shop Podcast

Jonas Brothers are maximizing the news cycle around their 20th-anniversary Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, which launched less than a month ago but has generated dozens of headlines about surprise guests, unexpected reunions and two brother trios joining forces.

The latest big news from the tour came at Sunday’s stop in Dallas, where Fifth Harmony — Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane — performed together for the first time in seven years. The quartet performed “Worth It” and “Work From Home” for the lucky crowd, which was also treated to surprises from Kelsea Ballerini, The Plain White T’s and Ryan Cabrera that night. The tour kicked off in the JoBros’ native New Jersey, with Demi Lovato popping up Aug. 10 for a Camp Rock sing-along. Oh, and fellow brother trio Hanson showed up at the Virginia Beach show on Aug. 15 to perform “MMMBop” with the boys.

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are talking about all the ways artists are carving out special moments for fans at their shows — like Taylor Swift’s acoustic set on Eras Tour or Kelly Clarkson’s nightly Kellyoke cover in Las Vegas — and why it’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Also on the show, Stray Kids get their seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 — the entirety of their charting efforts — as KARMA debuts atop the list. Meanwhile, Laufey, Deftones, Tyler, The Creator and BigXthaPlug all shake up the Billboard 200 top 10. Plus, on the Billboard Hot 100, as the KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden” is No. 1 for a third week, Doja Cat’s new “Jealous Type” debuts in the top 40. And on the Pop Airplay chart, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” jumps to No. 1 — marking her sixth leader, and all have come in just one year and five months’ time. Has anyone else notched that many No. 1s that quickly?

The Billboard Pop Shop Podcast is your one-stop shop for all things pop on Billboard‘s weekly charts. You can always count on a lively discussion about the latest pop news, fun chart stats and stories, new music, and guest interviews with music stars and folks from the world of pop. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard‘s executive digital director, West Coast, Katie Atkinson and Billboard’s managing director, charts and data operations, Keith Caulfield every week on the podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcast provider. Lzzy Hale on Halestorm’s Everest and Nick Cave’s Genius: Podcast

by jummy84 September 2, 2025

Lzzy Hale of Halestorm spoke with Kyle Meredith about Everest, the band’s roaring new record born from a “desert island” headspace in Savannah with Dave Cobb. Nearly three decades into their run, Hale framed the album as a live-wire snapshot instead of a genre exercise: big melodies, bigger punches, and zero interest in coloring inside the lines. It’s the sound of a band refusing to calcify. Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.

“We were writing and recording in real time,” Hale says, describing how the band ditched old riffs and notebooks to chase whatever felt electric that day. That gamble paid off on “Watch Out,” where a 4:00 a.m. voice-note flipped the entire track: “Dave’s like, ‘That’s the chorus—screw the other part.’”

The goal wasn’t to make a “heavy record” so much as a true one, as Hale explains, “Once we start limiting ourselves to what we think we are… the creativity goes out the window.” The trust fall hits hardest on the piano-lit “Darkness Always Wins,” a song that arrived first and landed like it had always been there. “I can hear us still with something to prove,” Hale admits. “We jumped off the cliff and hoped we packed our parachutes.”

She also lit up at the mention of Nick Cave, praising the way he can drop a single word—like sin—and suddenly the song carries a new kind of gravity. “He’s one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime artists who can be otherworldly and still completely genuine,” she says. “There’s this balance he mastered long ago that I really admire.”

Listen to Lizzy Hale talk about Everest, and more in the new episode above or by watching the video below. You can also grab tickets to Halestorm’s upcoming tour here.

Who What Wear Podcast: Plus-Size Bridal

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Welcome to The Who What Wear Podcast. Think of it as your direct line to the designers, stylists, beauty experts, editors, and tastemakers who are shaping the fashion-and-beauty world. Subscribe to The Who What Wear Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

When Who What Wear’s associate features editor Ana Escalante got engaged, there were a lot of things swirling around in her head. One of those topics was figuring out what she was going to wear on her wedding day.

“As I began this process, which is very personal and very intimate, I found myself so frustrated by the lack of options. I think that the wedding industry, especially if you’re plus-size, has a way of making you feel so small,” Escalante said. This lack of options sparked a story idea digging into why it took so long for designers to understand the plus-size bride.

“When I kind of began talking and reaching out to other plus-size brides or other plus-size content creators who had recently gotten engaged, I kind of felt that there was this one section of the market that was missing when it came to plus-size bridal,” Escalante said.

For the latest episode of The Who What Wear Podcast, Escalante shares how the story came together, the criteria she had for designers she met with, and more.

For excerpts from their conversation, scroll below.

Can you tell us a little bit about what inspired this story and why you wanted to write it?

Obviously, when I got engaged, there were so many things swirling in my head. Perhaps the most funny of those things was like, “What am I going to wear?” That was always kind of top of mind when I got engaged. As I began this process, which is very personal and very intimate, I found myself so frustrated by the lack of options.
