Looks like fans of Ballard won’t be left in the lurch after Season 1’s bombshell cliffhanger: The detective drama has officially been renewed.

On Monday, October 6, Prime Video announced that Ballard will return for a second season. Starring Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard and based on Michael Connelly‘s best-selling novels, the hit series has reached audiences in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

What is Ballard about?

A spinoff from Bosch: Legacy, the first season of Ballard follows Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), a former homicide detective who’s reassigned to run a tiny, underfunded cold case unit composed largely of volunteers and reserve officers after speaking out against her sexual assault and being punished for her efforts. Soon, Ballard and her team uncover a serial killer operating in the shadows of Los Angeles. As Ballard and her crew dig deeper, they encounter corruption and cover-ups within the LAPD itself.

How did Ballard Season 1 end?

In the finale, the season ended on a cliffhanger: Ballard’s attacker, Detective Robert Olivas (Ricardo Chavira), was found dead under unclear circumstances, and Ballard, despite being hailed as a hero for her work on closing the high-profile cold case, was hauled away by police as their top suspect.

Who stars in Ballard?

Maggie Q continues to portray the role of Detective Renée Ballard, who heads the cold case division of the LAPD. The character is also a recurring figure in Michael Connelly’s novels, including The Dark Hours, Desert Star, and The Waiting.

The show draws on the novels for her character and backstory as it creates a complicated portrait of the detective.

In addition to Q, the cast includes Courtney Taylor as Samira Parker, a former officer who returns to the force at Ballard’s request. Also on board is John Carroll Lynch as Thomas Laffont, a retired former police partner who returns to help Ballard run the cold case department.

Rounding out the cast is Rebecca Field as Colleen Hatteras, an eccentric volunteer who believes her “intuition” could help solve cases, Victoria Moroles as Martina Castro, a sharp legal intern who is eager to prove her worth, and Amy Hill as Ballard’s grandmother Tutu.

Sources reveal that the film is tentatively titled “Duryodhana”, and aims to offer a fresh perspective on the timeless tale. “John Abraham has been discussing a film set against the backdrop of the Mahabharata but reinterpreted in today’s era. Arun Gopalan has developed a gripping screenplay, and John is highly impressed with the narrative and the director’s vision,” said an insider.

The project is expected to go on floors by June 2026, with pre-production beginning in early 2026. It will be jointly produced by John Abraham and Sandeep Leyzell under John’s production banner. This aligns with John’s recent focus on high-concept action films that offer fresh, thought-provoking content to the audience.

John Abraham was last seen in Tehran, a geopolitical thriller produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. 4 Non Blondes Extend Reunion, Plot New LP

The Linda Perry-led 4 Non Blondes reunited this year for their first proper shows since 1994, and the fun won’t end just yet. The group will perform Dec. 15 at the Roxy in Los Angeles and Dec. 17 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco (get tickets here), and also has plans to release a new album next year.

“4 Non Blondes have been having a great time playing all of these incredible festivals, but honestly, we are excited to get back to the clubs,” Perry tells SPIN. “It’s where every band starts. You figure out what songs people like, learn about your mistakes [and] how to read the audience, [and] most of all, the audience gets a better understanding of who you are in this more intimate setting.”

Perry, bassist Christa Hillhouse and former touring members Dawn Richardson and Roger Rocha reassembled for four festival gigs this year, the band’s first since a one-off 2014 set at a Los Angeles LGBT benefit. At the recent shows, 4 Non Blondes focused on a batch of new songs such as “”Don’t Wanna,” “Drop the Bomb” and “Monomorphic,” intended for the follow-up to their 1992 debut, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!

“They’re all phenomenal players and now they get a chance to show that,” Perry says. “I couldn’t ask for a better band to play these songs.”

4 Non Blondes are best known for the grunge-era song “What’s Up?,” which hit No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 1 on the singles charts in multiple European countries and has more than 1.18 billion streams on Spotify to date. Perry went on to become a hugely successful producer, songwriter and label owner who has worked with Christina Aguilera, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys.

“Playing some songs with 4 Non Blondes just seemed like a fun thing to do, in a way it hadn’t before now,” she says. “I’ve been behind the scenes for far too long. I want to step out to be the artist I am. I’m just open to all the possibilities that I’ve created around me. I manifest things all the time.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is going back to his fighting roots but taking them to the big screen. In A24’s The Smashing Machine, the actor and WWE pro wrestler plays real-life retired fighter Mark Kerr, delivering an emotionally complex performance for the first time in his film career.

Johnson was admittedly “scared” to tackle the role, he revealed on CBS Sunday Morning partly because, up until now, he’s had a reputation of being a box office champ rather than an experienced actor.

“For years, I’ve been dreaming and hoping,” he explained. “My desire was to play not only a dramatic role, but something that I felt like I could really sink my teeth into, and rip myself open. The Summer I Turned Pretty just made this fall season a little more beautiful. Upon the release of its season 3 finale, Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video announced that a movie is in development to continue Belly Conklin’s story.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” a press release statement read from Amazon MGM head of film, Courtenay Valenti, and Global Head of Television at Prime Video, Vernon Sanders. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

What Is The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Release Date?

As of now, there is no official release date yet for TSITP movie. Since Amazon confirmed the news shortly after the season 3 finale, it’s too early to determine when the feature-length film will come out.

The series’ official Instagram account confirmed that a film is in the works. And in response, the Today show commented, “Talk to you tomorrow morning,” meaning that fans could get more answers on September 18, 2025.

A script could take a while to complete, not to mention figuring out a filming schedule for the cast and crew. As long as a script is completed by the end of 2025, it’s safe to assume that TSITP movie could be released by mid to late 2026.

What Will The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Be About?

According to author Jenny Han, TSITP movie will feature a “big milestone in Belly’s” life. After Amazon confirmed the film news, Jenny thanked Prime Video for the chance to continue her and Conrad’s story.

Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad) are officially reprising their roles in TSITP movie. There’s still no word if Gavin Casalegno will return as Jeremiah, though.
