Know All About Avatar: Fire and Ash’s Varang, Played By Charlie Chaplin’s Granddaughter Oona Chaplin

by jummy84 December 6, 2025
written by jummy84

As the countdown intensifies for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, one name is sparking growing intrigue, and it is Varang. She isn’t merely a new character; she is the beating heart of the frenzy, the mystery and the towering anticipation surrounding Cameron’s latest chapter. In Avatar: Fire and Ash, audiences will journey deeper into Pandora than ever before, encountering an entirely new civilisation, the Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People.

Fierce, resilient and shaped by a life of unrelenting hardship, this clan offers a raw and unfiltered window into Pandora’s darker, more complex corners. At their helm stands Varang, a leader forged by suffering, fuelled by purpose, and destined to redefine the emotional stakes of the saga.

Bringing Varang to life is Oona Chaplin, granddaughter of the iconic Charlie Chaplin. Varang is not crafted simply as an antagonist or narrative counterpoint, she is a force of nature.

Talking about her character, she said, “I never saw her as a villain, and I don’t think you say that as well, you’re not the villain, you know, it’s a little complicated, but I think both of these characters are also very principled. For me, you know, it was a great revelation to have the conversations with Jim around this theme where she tells a little bit about her biography, her kind of origin story, why she is the way she is. And it struck me as like she’s actually a very human character, because the depth of trauma that comes from the separation from the connection to nature, which, you know, everybody here understands what that feels like, even if we’ve forgotten even what that feels like, but, you know, all of that, that disconnection breeds conflict.”

To embody her intensity, Oona Chaplin immersed herself in curated music and symbolic decor on set, a ritual that helped her channel the fire, pain and conviction that define Varang’s essence.

Avatar
Unlike the Omatikaya and the Metkayina, the Mangkwan are a clan pushed to the edge, a community that has endured deep wounds and spiritual disillusionment. Their suffering has distanced them from Eywa, Pandora’s guiding force. Varang is swiftly becoming one of the most talked-about characters of the year.

Avatar: Fire and Ash releases on December 19 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Netflix Games President Alain Tascan Teases Offerings To Be Played on TV

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

The sun was a few hours from setting when doors opened at the Netflix on Vine studio space as the streamer hosted an official Netflix Game Night for press, partners and guests on Wednesday afternoon.

The digital showcase gave attendees an exclusive opportunity to play recently released Netflix Games made for smart TVs while getting a sneak peek at upcoming launches as the streamer continues its push into becoming a one-stop shop for all things entertainment.

“Our vision is simple,” Netflix Games president Alain Tascan said in kicking off the presentation in front of a standing room only crowd. “Can we make playing a game as simple as streaming a movie on a Friday using the same innovative mindset that led Netflix to transform itself from a company shipping DVDs to streaming, movies, shows and now games. I tell my team almost every day we have a golden ticket, the opportunity to reinvent the way people play games, but also engage and reengage with IP and worlds they are familiar with. So hopefully today you’ll see the potential of what can be games on Netflix and on the TV, where the majority of our audience is.”

The event, and Tascan’s comments, come a little more than a month after Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters announced to Lucas Shaw at Bloomberg Screentime that the streamer was making a move with its games division from offering a suite of mobile apps to games that can be played on TVs for the first time using smartphones as controllers. Group games dominated the first rollout with currently available titles like Boggle Party, LEGO Party, Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends, Pictionary: Game Night and Tetris Time Warp. Up next: Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game that features detective Benoit Blanc (played in the franchise by Daniel Craig) and allows users to solve a mystery in which everyone playing is a suspect.

Courtesy of Netflix Games

The games range from existing IP like the LEGO franchise to Netflix originals and beyond. Tascan, who joined the streamer last summer from Epic Games, explained why they’re doubling down in his division.

“At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world but entertainment isn’t just about shows and movies. Right now, more than three billion people around the world are playing games. It’s the biggest entertainment shift in the last 30 years. Games tell a story and we are home of the best storytellers on the planet. It’s why I’m so excited about what we’re creating At Netflix. Our strategy is to give people something familiar, whether it’s a game they know or a world they love, but we also want to take advantage of the rich and innovations at Netflix to push games in new and unexpected directions.”

It was Netflix Games vp Jeet Shroff who said that one of those directions won’t require any movement as they want subscribers to simply keep the Netflix app open on on their TVs all night. “Let’s say it’s Friday night, dinner’s done and you’re looking for something to do. Forget fumbling through that board game closet. Just open up Netflix,” said Shroff, who explained that scanning a QR code allows smartphones to become game controllers. “You’re going to have a blast with your family and friends. You can go straight from watching KPop Demon Hunters to playing a party game without ever leaving Netflix.”

That’s not to say that Netflix is abandoning its mobile games. Far from it. There are 80 mobile options and more on the way, including high profile launches. The “coming soon” lineup includes PAW Patrol Academy, the wrestling sim WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition starring superstars like Roman Reigns, Trish Stratus, Undertaker and Rhea Ripley, the daily game Netflix Puzzled featuring hot titles like Stranger Things, Squid Game, KPop Demon Hunters, Bridgerton and Emily in Paris, and Red Dead Redemption.

Courtesy of Netflix Games

To tease another launch, Tascan and his Netflix Game Night team then allowed attendees to be among the first to play Best Guess Live hosted by TV and media personality Hunter March (Sugar Rush, Nightly Pop) and Howie Mandel in what was presented as a live stream from another location. Reminiscent of the wildly popular Trivia HQ, the mobile game show is sure to be a weekday phenomenon that allows users to compete in real time against real players for cash prizes. Best Guess Live offers up five clues, which last 20 seconds each, allowing users to drop their answers as quickly as they can to beat the competition. Speaking of, one reputable journalist in attendance beat the competition by guessing that March and Mandel were just down the hall, and they were. After the game had ended, the two raced over to surprise the crowd and join Tascan for some final comments.

“You can see why games on Netflix are going to be different. And let me be clear, we are not here to compete with consoles. We’re creating a completely new way to play games,” Tascan concluded. “One that’s as easy as streaming a show on a Friday night. On the TV and film side, we’ve gone from sending DVDs through snail mail to streaming films and movies to an audience of more than 700 million people around the world. It’s in Netflix’s DNA to innovate and push boundaries. In the history of gaming, some of the biggest successes have come from taking big swings and now we’re going to apply that same innovation to games. We’re going to keep experimenting and entertaining the world. This is just the beginning.”

“Since launching earlier this year, [World of Peppa Pig] been one of our top 10 most played games every single week,” said Kids Games general manager Lisa Burgess. “Kids don’t just want to watch their favorite characters, they want to play with them and leap excitedly into those worlds. And parents love finding these games in a place they already know and trust.”

Dave: The Boy Who Played Harp Album Review

Dave: The Boy Who Played Harp Album Review

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Perhaps Dave is caught in a loop of his own making. He’s built a career speaking for the most suppressed from the perspective of a person who comes from similar struggles, but now that he’s materially removed from that reality, he’s unsure of where he stands—in the minds of others but, more immediately, in his own. He denounces atrocities in the Congo, but wears jewelry that may have come from its diamond mines. He hardly ever prays, but seeks guidance from the God he was raised to worship. He boasts about money but won’t speak up for Palestine. These are criticisms he turns onto himself throughout the album without ever reaching a resolution. Will he stop participating in these things or does he just want to clear his conscious to the public?

In 2017, on his breakout “Question Time,” a 19-year-old Dave called then-Prime Minister Theresa May to task over UK airstrikes that killed children in Syria and for defunding the NHS rather than paying liveable wages to nurses like his mom. Two years later, “Black,” from his debut, Psychodrama, got at the maddening reality of being part of a subjugated people, working your whole life to dispel myths about yourself, only to still be treated like a second-class citizen. “Three Rivers,” from 2021’s We’re All Alone in This Together, paid tribute to Britain’s immigrant communities as hostilities toward them began to rise. That sort of state-of-society demonstration, which has always distinguished Dave from his peers in UK rap, is hardly present on his newest album. And it doesn’t help that The Boy Who Plays the Harp is considerably less dynamic when it comes to production.

What made Psychodrama and We’re All Alone in This Together especially stimulating was that between Dave’s social commentary and lyrical flexing lay sullen portraits of his of neighborhood (“Environment”), brooding D’n’B (“Voices”), glitzy trap-like bounce (“Clash” with Stormzy), and more. On The Boy Who Played the Harp, that diversity appears sparingly. “Raindance” with Tems, a sweet, stripped-down take on an Afroswing love song, will likely be the album’s mainstream win. Young British sensation Jim Legxacy contributes to “No Weapons” as a producer and vocalist, making it the album’s most fun track. “Marvellous” is largely about a young boy from Dave’s South London neighborhood who’s getting a taste of street life, but the Spanish guitar and thumping drums give it a useful jolt.

Even with the presence of these songs, the heart of this album lies in the more downtempo, man-in-the-mirror moments. The Kano-featuring “Chapter 16” is such an effective song in this context because, while Dave spends much of the album berating himself about whether he’s a fraud, or has strayed too far from God, or deserves to find true love, the make-believe steak dinner provides him with someone to bounce those insecurities off of. And, even though it takes the long road to get there, maybe this is the point that The Boy Who Played the Harp seeks to make: When you isolate yourself from the world, the voices within may eventually turn on you.

Who Almost Played McDreamy & More

Pulling the Plug on McDreamy

After Rhimes cryptically admitted on the Nightly Show With  Larry Wilmore in 2015 that she had killed a character in the Shondaverse because she didn’t like the actor, speculation swirled that the corpse was Dempsey’s Derek, who had long since chosen to love Meredith when he was devastatingly killed off at the end of season 11.

Asked for his diagnosis, Dempsey told EW that Rhimes “loves being provocative and that’s fine for who she is.” Calling her “an amazing woman who’s incredibly productive,” he added, “I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she’s looking for.”

Per How to Save a Life, tensions were high between Dempsey, Rhimes and cast members who, according to former executive producer James D. Parriott, “had all sorts of PTSD with him.” But by then, Parriott said, Dempsey “was just done with the show.”

Pompeo “would get angry that he wasn’t working as much,” former executive producer Jeannine Renshaw said, per Rice’s book. “She was very big on having things be fair.”

Any alleged wounds were salved enough to welcome Dempsey back to be in comatose Meredith’s dream in season 17.

Now, due to huge demand, he had added more UK shows to the itinerary. These include extra dates at The O2 in London on March 10 and 11, and another show at the Co-op Live in Manchester on March 17.

These add onto the two previously announced shows at the London arena taking place on March 6 and 7, and to the already confirmed Manchester date on March 16.

It follows on from his back-to-back Number One albums, ‘Psychodrama’, which was released in 2019, and ‘We’re All Alone In This Together’, which came out in 2021.

The latter featured James Blake and Stormzy, and was given five stars in a review from NME.

“As illustrated throughout the stunning ‘Psychodrama’, Dave has always been the one to rap traditionally, using hip-hop for what it was intended to do: give a voice to the voiceless,” it read. “He has always been able to show the inner-workings of many young Londoners in a clean and universal way that can perhaps help the whole world to better understand the Black British experience, especially that of Black men.

“Always ready to tell the hard truths for those who can’t, Dave has proved again that he’s a voice of a generation, sitting pretty atop his peers when it comes to making unforgettable London rap classics.”

That record debuted at the top spot in the charts with over 74,000 chart sales – making it the highest opening week of 2021, and the chart’s biggest opening week since November 2019.

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor is well-known for his notable films, including Vicky Donor, Dream Girl, and Mr. India, among others. Beyond films, he is also a television personality. Let’s look back at the time when he shared an interesting anecdote about legendary couple Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s wedding day. For the unaware, Javed and Shabana tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 9, 1984, at midnight in Mumbai. Read on to know more.

Annu Kapoor’s Close Bond With Shabana Azmi’s Family

In a conversation with ANI, Annu Kapoor reflected on their wedding night and explained how he played cupid in Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s marriage. He shared, “Let me admit and acknowledge that I’ve only been close to three families. The first was the Azmi family – Shabana Azmi, her late mother, her late father, Kaifi Saab, and her brother, Baba Azmi. These four people gave me immense love, affection, and respect. They helped me move ahead in life, and later Javed Akhtar also became part of that connection.”

Annu Kapoor Explains The Reason Behind Their Hasty Wedding

He further revealed how he actually planned the hasty wedding and convinced the couple to get married. Annu said, “I was the one who arranged Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s
wedding on the night of December 9, 1984, at midnight. Javed was sitting there and drunk, while Shabana was inside reading a book. So, I arrived that night, and since she considered me her brother, I told her to make a decision. He (Javed) said, ‘What decision? She’s not ready.’ So, I went to her and asked, ‘Are you ready?’ She said, ‘Yes, I am.’ Then I told him, ‘Okay, I’m going.’ She said, ‘Yes, go ahead.’”

Annu Kapoor Rushed To Bring Maulvi

“Their driver was named Michel. I told him, ‘Let’s go, Michel.’ I rushed to invite a Maulvi (priest) from Bandra Mosque. Shabana’s mother pulled out a traditional red wedding dress. Then I called Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Everyone came, and there was dancing and celebration until around 4 or 5 in the morning, after which they finally got married,” Annu concluded.

More About Javed Akhtar

Legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar was earlier married to Honey Irani and had two children – Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. They tied the knot in March 1972 and parted ways after 13 years in December 1985. Javed Akhtar fell in love with actress Shabana Azmi while being married to Honey Irani.

The statement continued, “Football is America’s most popular sport—for good reason—it fosters a sense of national unity, bringing families, friends, and fans together and strengthening communities.  This annual tradition transcends our differences and personifies our shared patriotic values of family, faith, and freedom heroically defended by our military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders.  We value their devotion to protecting our great Nation and salute their selfless service.”

The Top 10 Songs Played at Atlanta Strip Clubs in August 2025

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Atlanta strip clubs have played an integral role in breaking rap hits for decades. Gentlemen’s clubs have long served as a testing ground for the genre — and although the streaming era of music has changed the music landscape, strip club DJs have continued to be meticulous about what makes their playlists on a nightly basis.

There has undoubtedly long been a symbiotic relationship between hip-hop culture and the strip club. Jeezy once called Magic City his “office,” and Jermaine Dupri executive-produced a Magic City docuseries on STARZ alongside Drake earlier this year. “When I got serious about music, Magic City Monday, everything happened there,” Jeezy told Billboard over the summer about his rap origins.

Billboard and DJ Monitor, a service that installs music-recognition technology for venues and festivals, have collected data from three prominent Atlanta strip clubs, tracking every song played during August 2025.

Metro Boomin paid homage to 2000s Atlanta with his mixtape A Futuristic Summa, which dropped in August, and The A reciprocated that love, as Young Metro boasts three of the top five songs on the inaugural strip club songs recap.

As far as artists who enjoyed the most spins in the strip club for August, the top 10 is as follows:

No. 10, Gunna (253)
No. 9, Young Nudy (276)
No. 8, Drake (286)
No. 7, Gucci Mane (306)
No. 6, Jeezy (363)
No. 5, Moneybagg Yo (380)
No. 4, Bossman Dlow (436)
No. 3, Metro Boomin (624)
No. 2, Lil Baby (636)
No. 1, Future (1,406)

Billboard will continue to track the top-played strip club hits each month throughout the year. U.S. club owners interested in contributing data can send an email to [email protected].

  • Chris Brown feat. Bryson Tiller, “It Depends” (53 Plays)

  • Lil Baby feat. Future & Young Thug, “Dum, Dumb, and Dumber” (58 Plays)

“Dum, Dumb, and Dumber” was appointment listening for rap fans upon its release, as the track served as Young Thug’s first post-prison verse since reaching a plea deal in the YSL RICO trial. The Wheezy-produced cut landed on Lil Baby’s WHAM album in January and featured Future, which pushed “Dum, Dumb, and Dumber” to No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • Bossman Dlow feat. French Montana, “Mo Chicken” (58 Plays)

“Mo Chicken” served as Bossman Dlow’s first link-up with French Montana, as the track — which finds the duo interpolating Lil Kim’s flow from Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s “Get Money” 30 years later — landed on the Florida native’s Dlow Curry debut album. Even nearly nine months after arriving, it’s still a staple in Atlanta strip club rotation.

  • 21 Lil Harold & 21 Savage feat. Sexyy Red, “Nookie (Pu$$Y)” (58 Plays)

21 Savage joined forces with his Slaughter Gang signee 21 Lil Harold, who enlisted Sexyy Red for a trap assist, on “Nookie (Pu$$Y)” in June. Harold’s raunchy verse has a little bit of everything, as he references Magic City and has name-drops ranging from Bubba Sparxxx to former NBA player Serge Ibaka.

  • Rob49, “WTHelly” (63 Plays)

Rob49 caught a viral hit with “WTHelly” in March. A song he freestyled in a studio session that was originally for Skilla Baby, Rob explained that “what the helly” was a phrase he came up with alongside his friends back home, and it became part of everyday vernacular in hip-hop culture. The track finds Rob name-dropping plenty of celebs from LeBron James to Miley Cyrus, as “WTHelly” reached No. 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.

  • Jeezy & Bankroll Fresh, “All There” (64 Plays)

Jeezy’s “All There” has stood the test of time in The A. It originally appeared on 2016’s Trap or Die 3 and features a posthumous assist from Bankroll Fresh. The multi-platinum track was played during a season two episode of Donald Glover’s Atlanta series in 2018, and reached No. 8 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.

  • Metro Boomin feat. Quavo, Breskii & YKNIECE, “Take Me Thru Dere” (70 Plays)

“Take Me Thru Dere” arrived as a standout on Metro Boomin’s Futuristic Summa mixtape in July. With menacing production that feels like a callback to Jeezy’s Thug Motivation 101, Metro enlists Quavo Breskii and YKNIECE for assists. YKNIECE’s dance has pushed the track to go viral on TikTok, and many college football players have used the dance to celebrate touchdowns in the end zone this season.

  • Young Nudy, “BTA” (72 Plays)

It was a clean takeoff to Paradise for Young Nudy, who reunited with his right-hand producer COUPE for “BTA.” With rumbling 808s and stripper-friendly bars, it’s easy to see how the dollars fly across Magic City whenever this comes on.

“It takes a lot to get to Paradise. Blood, sweat and tears,” Nudy told Billboard. “Paradise give you the Nudy world type s—t. My mindset and my people and what I represent.”

  • Metro Boomin feat. Travis Porter, Young Dro & Gucci Mane, “They Wanna Have Fun” (77 Plays)

Metro Boomin paid homage to 2000s Atlanta with his Futuristic Summa mixtape, and he recruited a classic Georgia triumvirate with Gucci Mane, Young Dro and Travis Porter for “They Wanna Have Fun.” While Cyndi Lauper told us girls just want to have fun, the guys are having plenty of it, too.

  • Metro Boomin feat. DJ Spinz & Waka Flocka Flame, “Clap” (81 Plays)

Metro Boomin’s music has long been a staple in the strip clubs, and his Futuristic Summa mixtape was all over the ATL circuit, as the fresh 32-year-old (his birthday was on Tuesday, Sept. 16) notched three of the top five slots on this chart.

“Clap” is a perfect fit at the strip club, as he teamed up with Waka Flocka Flame to throw a Brick Squad party.

Cooper Koch quickly rose to prominence thanks to his breakout role in Netflix’s anthology series Monsters: The Lyle an Erik Menendez Story. The Los Angeles-born actor portrayed Erik Menéndez, one of the infamous brothers convicted of killing their parents in 1989, and his chilling yet layered performance drew widespread attention. Cooper revealed that he immersed himself in Erik’s personal history to fully embody the role — a commitment that clearly paid off, as it earned him his first Primetime Emmy nomination in 2025.

Still early in his career and with only a handful of credits to his name, Koch has become one of Hollywood’s most closely watched rising stars. Fans are eager to know more about the actor beyond his acclaimed performance, and his Emmy recognition has only amplified that interest.

Hollywood Life has rounded up five facts about Cooper, below!

Cooper Koch Played Erik Menendez in Monsters

While speaking with TheWrap in an interview published in September 2024, Cooper explained how he managed to step into his character’s shoes.

“I turned my trailer into Erik’s room, so I had clothes everywhere, and I had pictures of him on the wall, pictures of me too,” Cooper pointed out. “I looked at videos of me when I was really young, and I watched how my parents treated me, which gave me a level of gratitude for my family and my parents. I listened to [Erik] and watched him religiously. And I had my music, I had all different kinds of journals, all different kinds of things to help me really feel like him and be him.”

This show brought renewed attention to the Menendez brothers’ case along with new evidence found. On October 24, 2024, during a press conference, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón recommended resentencing for Lyle and Erik, with the possibility of immediate parole, pending a judge’s final decision. Following this news, Cooper released a statement through his brother Payton Koch on Instagram Stories, as he does not have social media. The statement read, “I am overwhelmed with gratitude and hope for the progress we’ve seen today. Gascón’s recommendation has ignited a renewed sense of possibility that Lyle and Erik could finally be released after decades behind bars. But, this journey is not over.”

He continued,“There are still critical steps ahead: the judge must endorse the resentencing, and, if that happens, the parole board must recognize the time they have served as fitting for the crime. Our voices, our unwavering support, remain crucial-not just for the brothers to ensure their release, but also for every victim of sexual abuse fighting to be heard. I hope to see Erik and Lyle soon. Free from all of this.”

In April 2025, Cooper attended the Menendez brothers’ resentencing hearing in Van Nuys, California, per Newsweek.

Cooper Koch Has a Twin Brother

Cooper has a twin brother named Payton Koch. Payton isn’t an actor, but he works in the entertainment industry as a film editor. In fact, per his IMDb page, Payton was nominated for an Emmy Award. Among Payton’s most notable credits as a series editor were for multiple episodes of Only Murders in the Building and American Horror Story.

Cooper Koch’s Family Works in Entertainment

Aside from his brother, Cooper comes from a family of entertainers. According to his IMDb page, Cooper’s father is Billy Koch, who has worked as a visual effects editor on multiple films, such as Jerry Maguire and Space Jam. His grandfather, Hawk Koch, is a movie producer and the previous President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Producers Guild.

Cooper’s great-grandfather, Howard W. Koch, worked as a producer and a director. Among his most notable credits include The Manchurian Candidate and Airplane II: The Sequel.

Cooper Koch Got His First Film Role in 2018

Cooper landed his first gig in 2018 in the film West 40s and steadily earned more roles. His most famous credits include They/Them, Swallowed and Power Book II: Ghost.

Although he grew up in Los Angeles County, Cooper moved to New York City, where he earned his BFA in Acting from the Pace School of Performing Arts.

Cooper Koch Has a Boyfriend

Cooper and his boyfriend, Stuart McClave, attended their first public event together in March 2025. For a while, Cooper played it coy whenever he’d briefly discuss his relationship, but he finally broke his silence on his and Stuart’s love at the GLAAD Media Awards.

During a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight at the event, Cooper gushed about Stuart, saying, “He’s just got me so grounded and pulls me down to the earth and holds me when it’s a lot. He’s been so supportive and sweet, and he’s been the best partner I could ask for.”

Just a few months later, Koch’s career hit a new high point when he received his first Primetime Emmy nomination for his performance as Erik Menéndez in Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Having his partner by his side through the whirlwind of press and awards season made the milestone all the more meaningful.
