Woman Rejects $898 Engagement Piece

Alexa, play ‘Irreplaceable,’ because it looks like love is in the air — but so is confusion, disappointment, and a whole lotta side-eye. What was supposed to be a step into forever for Priscilla and Tyler now has the internet grabbing popcorn and picking sides without even knowing the full story yet. And, let’s just say… this one has the internet clutching its pearls, taking sides, and analyzing engagement rings like it’s the NBA Finals.

When The Walmart Ring Doesn’t Ring True, Sis

It all started when a woman named Priscilla hopped on Threads to share a screenshot of the moment she turned down her boyfriend’s proposal. And the $898 Walmart engagement ring that came with it. She also sparked a debate under the caption, “What are y’all thoughts on this? I’m curious.” But don’t get it twisted—her issue wasn’t the price tag. According to her, this was about him “not listening.” In the leaked text exchange, she told Tyler, “I’ve told you the kind of ring I wanted more than once & you showed up with something from Walmart… If you knew what I wanted & still chose to do what was easiest [it] tells me you don’t really hear me.” Whew.

The Comments Section Was Fighting For Its Life

The internet was immediately divided in Priscilla’s Threads comment section like a Super Bowl fan using a parlay. Some were full-on girl’s girls, riding hard for her and insisting she deserved a partner who actually listens. Meanwhile, people started dropping photos of their own inexpensive-but-beloved rings, and a few fellas chimed in telling Tyler to run—fast—and find someone else to spend his life with.

One Threads user @india_kilo said, “I’m confused, if you have $900 to spend on a ring, why the hell would you spend it at Walmart? He could’ve went to Kay Jewelers…“

This Threads user, @misslaurarh, added, “She doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life being unheard.“

And, Threads user @rubyyyork shared, “It’s not about the ring. It’s about her stating her needs and him dismissing them. That’s a deeper issue than a Walmart ring. I’m on her side.“

Meanwhile, Threads user @t.giulia04 wrote, “Lemme put it in another perspective. ‘Oh he loooves playing Fifa on his ps5, let me get a game for him’ *buys Call of duty for xbox* The guy: ‘this isn’t gonna work’ The girl: ‘You’re ungrateful!’“

While Threads user @iamsaheira commented, “Girl………..what the FAWK is wrong with you??? Dam. I hate when I have to side with men.“

Lastly, Threads user @itsricharddrew said, “Avoid any woman who cares more for the ring than the proposal“

Chile, Even Expensive Rings Ain’t Safe Out Here

It looks like Priscilla isn’t the only one side-eyeing a ring. Another bride-to-be recently confessed on Facebook that she hates the surprise ring her fiancé proposed with, admitting she gets “sad every time [she looks] at it.” Though the jewel was far pricier than Priscilla’s, the issue was the same: he never asked her what she wanted. From changing her nail shape to trying to “grow” into it, nothing helped. She still didn’t like it—period.

One thing’s for sure: between skyrocketing proposal budgets, Pinterest-perfect expectations, and communication breakdowns, engagement season is looking real messy this year. Whether you think Priscilla was right or wrong, she’s definitely sparked a conversation about love, listening, and the true cost of a ring. And, the debate started a conversation on whether this was a red flag—or simply a woman with standards.

Xolo Maridueña will portray Portgas D. Ace in Season 3 of Netflix’s One Piece

One Piece has recruited Xolo Maridueña to play Portgas D. Ace in Season 3, Netflix announced on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is best known for his roles in Blue Beetle (2023) and Cobra Kai. The live-action series, which was greenlit for a third season in August, is based on the popular manga series of the same name. Written by Eiichiro Oda, its first issue came out in 1997. It is one of the longest-running Japanese manga series.

Netflix’s One Piece live-action resumes production for Season 3 later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, the streaming giant said on Tudum. Meanwhile, the premiere date for Season 2 is set for March 10.

It follows protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, “on his quest to find the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates,” according to the official logline.

Maridueña is among the latest cast members to join the show. The show recently announced that Broadway star Cole Escola will star as theatrical assassin Bon Clay in One Piece Season 3.

The Smurfs actor has worked with Netflix before, starring as Miguel Diaz in all six seasons of Cobra Kai, which is based on the Karate Kid franchise. During Geeked Week 2024, he served as a special correspondent alongside co-star Jacob Bertrand.

In Season 2, “Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies,” per the official logline.

The series stars Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

'One Piece' Producer Tetsu Fujimura Says Japan's IP Is Going Global

‘One Piece’ Producer Tetsu Fujimura Says Japan’s IP Is Going Global

Tetsu Fujimura’s keynote talk The Future of Japanese Intellectual Property in Global Adaptations offered TIFFCOM attendees a convincing argument that Japanese IP is quickly becoming one of the country’s core industries, rivalling even its mighty car manufacturers.

TIFFCOM is the market arm of the Tokyo International Film Festival.

The founder and CEO of consulting firm Filosophia, as well as the founder of major distributor Gaga Corporation, Fujimura began the talk with a brisk run through of his rise to a leading producer of Japan-generated content for a world audience, including the hit Netflix live-action “One Piece” series.

Key to his success, he explained, were connections with top-tier Hollywood producers, beginning with Marvel Studio founder Avi Arad, with whom he produced the 2017 live-action sci-fi “Ghost in the Shell,” and TV producer Marty Adelstein, who became his partner in making “One Piece.”

But his individual achievements, as he illustrated with a blizzard of meticulously researched facts and figures, form only one wave of growing tsunami of Japanese IP, from manga and anime to movies and games, that is advancing into the global marketplace.

This tsunami has been a long time in building, from the 1990s when only about 10 or 20% of the top 30 films at the global box office were based on existing IP, to approaching 90 percent in the current decade.

Of the top 20 titles in the most current IP revenue rankings, compiled in 2021, ten are Japanese, including ‘Pokemon,’ ‘Hello Kitty,’ ‘Anpanman,’ ‘Super Mario,’ ‘Shonen Jump,’ ‘Gundam,’ ‘Dragon Ball,’ ‘Fist of the North Star,’ ‘One Piece’ and ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!.’ “In these kinds of global rankings, Japanese works inevitably appear in large numbers,” Fujimura commented. “So I think you understand that Japan occupies a significant presence in the world in many ways.”

What makes Japanese IP so strong? Fujimura listed three reasons: Japan’s massive appetite for manga and anime, fueled by major publishers, TV broadcasters and animation studio; the global distribution of anime, with Netflix and Amazon leading the way; and Japan’s rank as one of the world’s leading gaming powers, with Sony (“Uncharted,” “Gran Turismo”) and Nintendo (“Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Super Mario”) not only leading the pack but generating hit films from their games.

“Among game originals adapted into Hollywood live-action films Japanese IPs are currently the most numerous,” Fujimura said. “I believe they will attract even more attention going forward.”

One example is the 2023 “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” which grossed $1.361 billion worldwide making it the fifth highest earning animation of all time. “Disney has produced countless animated films, and this outranks all of them but ‘Frozen 2,’” Fujimura said. “What it’s achieved is incredible and really shows just how powerful Japanese animation is.”

His conclusion: “Japan’s representative IP genres – manga, anime, and games – possess extremely high growth potential that I believe will continue to be a source of pride. It’s a testament to Japan’s strength, proving that Japanese IPs can succeed in Hollywood.”

Elsa Hosk Perfected Autumn Styling in This 3 Piece Look

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

As a new season begins, I like to take stock of my wardrobe and establish a few outfit formulas I can rely on over the coming months—combinations that feel comfortable, current and put-together. At this time of year, that usually means perfecting the trio of jacket, trousers and shoes.

This autumn, I’ve been paying particular attention to fabrics, cuts and colours that feel right now while still standing the test of time. When I came across a photo of Elsa Hosk on my feed recently, I couldn’t help but think she’d mastered the formula perfectly.

Instead of reaching for the glossy leather or oversized bomber jackets that typically resurface each autumn, Hosk opted for a suede style—equally timeless, yet distinctly more relevant this season. With its supple texture and lightweight feel, suede brings a casual ease that makes it ideal for everyday wear. The trend has been steadily building over the past few seasons, appearing across jackets, boots, and handbags, and Hosk’s version, The Schoolhouse Jacket (£811) from her own label, Helsa, comes in a soft, washed shade of green—struck me as the perfect autumn layer.

Then there’s her choice of jeans and shoes, both of which sat in that sweet spot between timeless and trend-aware. Her straight-leg jeans, in an inky dark-blue wash, grounded the outfit beautifully. The classic cut stops the look from veering too trendy while the rich hue adds depth—especially fitting for the cooler months. In a season where baggy and flared silhouettes are reemerging, the straight-leg style remains a reliable constant in any fashion person’s rotation.

Finally, bypassing the loafers and boat shoes dominating this season, Hosk finished the look with a pair of heeled ballet pumps—a chic nod to the latest footwear movement among the best-dressed set. Feminine yet practical, this poised shoe style adds polish without pretension, and when paired with denim, it feels perfectly elevated for the everyday.

An easy outfit formula that promises to endure year after year—read on to shop my edit of the best suede jackets, straight-leg jeans and heeled ballet pumps to recreate the look this autumn.
