Olivia Dean Performs ‘Man I Need,’ ‘Let Alone The One You Love’

British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean debuted on Saturday Night Live by performing two songs from her second studio album, The Art of Loving, which came out in September.

Dean, who was just nominated for Best New Artist at next year’s Grammys, led off with “Man I Need.”

The song “is about knowing how you deserve to be loved and not being afraid to ask for it,” Dean said in statement upon its release earlier this year. “It’s forward, sexy, fun! It’s made for dancing!”

Dean wrote “Man I Need” with Zach Nahome and Tobias Jesso Jr., the winner of the 2023 Grammy for Songwriter of the Year. He is nominated for that award again this year.

Dean’s second performance was of “Let Alone the One You Love,” the sixth track off her latest album.

“We made most of this album in a studio we built in a house in East London,” the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram teasing it. “For 8 weeks we lived in the house of loving! I brought my piano from home and all my favourite people and tried to create things that felt like warmth. Here you have a piece of my heart!”

The Art of Loving has been widely praised.

“Dean’s star power is radiant and fueled by more than just charisma. She grooves in perfect time with an expertly assembled band, navigating through blaring trumpets, trombones, and saxophones with a delicate attention to detail and synchronicity,” Rolling Stone‘s Larisha Paul wrote in a review of the follow-up to 2023’s Messy.

On Friday, Dean announced dates for her 14-city The Art of Loving tour, which begins next July in San Francisco, California. She’ll work her way to the east coast before wrapping up in Austin, Texas in late August.

In the last few weeks, Dean was the opener on Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour. Before that, she opened for Sam Fender’s People Watching tour, having previously collaborated with Fender on the single “Rein Me In.”

Jon B Performs Medley For VIBE’S V Sessions

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Jon B is still just as cool relaxed as ever. The crooner celebrates 30 years of his debut album with VIBE and a V Sessions medley.

Considering he’s such a consummate professional, it’s not surprising that he shot his performance in one take. From being under Babyface’s guidance to now mentoring rising stars, Jon B remains one of the most prolific and mesmerizing artists of all time.

“They Don’t Know” remained on ice this go ‘round, but “Don’t Talk” kicked things into high gear.

Back in March, Jon released his new album, Waiting On You and spoke on his decision to do so as a veteran artist.

“People often expect new music to sound like the old material but I’ve been living life, gathering inspiration from every high, low, and in-between moment. That’s where the creativity comes from,” he explained in a statement. “It’s about creating music that feels authentic and has depth. It takes time to build something meaningful, and I’ve approached this project with a lot more intention, pouring every bit of my soul into it.”

Find out which soulful records he chose to share with us above.

Cyndi Lauper Inducted by Chappell Roan, Performs Hits at Rock Hall 2025 Ceremony: Watch

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Last night, at the annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, Cyndi Lauper was inducted by Chappell Roan. Afterwards, the ’80s pop star performed a medley of career-spanning hits with accompaniment from Avril Lavigne, Raye, and others to celebrate the occasion. Watch a replay of those moments below.

While inducting Lauper, Roan shared that she covered “True Colors” during a singing competition as a child, and has held Lauper’s music close ever since then. “It’s that courage that not only creates incredible art that gives everyone who experiences it the permission to be themselves — it opens their hearts, it changes their mind, and that is its power,” she said of Lauper. “Tonight, we honor a woman who redefined what a pop star could look like, sound like, and be.”

Lauper then took the stage to perform a collection of her songs, beginning with “True Colors” as a solo effort. Afterwards, she sang her massive 1984 hit “Time After Time” with accompaniment by British singer Raye, before welcoming Lavigne over for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” During the end of the latter track, Lauper encouraged audience members to sing along and brought Salt-n-Pepa onstage to join in.

Afterwards, Lauper gave a speech to recognize her induction to the Rock Hall and thank her supporters. “I just want to say that I stand on the shoulders of the women who came before me, and my shoulders are broad enough to have the women who came after me stand on mine,” she said. “The little kid in me still believes that rock ‘n’ roll can save the world. I just want to say now of all time, let’s come together again and do good in the world because it needs us.”

This year’s other Rock Hall inductees are the White Stripes, OutKast, Soundgarden, Warren Zevon, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker.

Sombr Performs ’12 to 12′ and ‘Back to Friends’

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Sombr made his Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest on Nov. 8.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter performed two songs — “12 to 12” and “Back to Friends” — from his debut album, I Barely Know Her, which reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200 in September.

Dressed in a sharp red suit and black shirt, the New York City native opened the show with “12 to 12” alongside a full band, then returned later to perform “Back to Friends” from behind the piano before stepping out for an emotional delivery.

Sombr, who writes and produces all of his own songs, is having a breakout year. His debut album, I Barely Know Her, arrived in August and produced his first three Billboard Hot 100 hits: the top 20 singles “Back to Friends” (No. 12) and “Undressed” (No. 16), as well as “12 to 12,” which peaked at No. 41.

The musician, whose real name is Shane Boose, recently earned a Grammy nomination for best new artist. He recently wrapped the sold-out North American leg of his first-ever headlining tour, which spanned 31 shows across the U.S. and Canada. Every venue was upgraded to meet demand, with multiple cities adding extra dates, including a triumphant hometown finale in New York City.

The latest episode of the long-running NBC sketch comedy show also featured first-time host Nikki Glaser. The comedian is set to return as host of the Golden Globes on Jan. 11.

SNL returns on Nov. 15 with actor Glen Powell as host and musical guest Olivia Dean.

The state capital hosted various events to commemorate the legacy of Mallika-e-Ghazal Begum Akhtar. Marking her death anniversary on October 30, 1974, Padma Shri awardee and Hindustani classical singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande paid a musical tribute, presenting the legendary artist’s popular songs at her Mazar in Pasand Bagh, Old City.

The singer from Jaipur’s Atrauli Gharana expressed her reverence, stating, “Like everyone, I am a very big fan of Begum Akhtar’s ghazals, her dadras, and thumris. Each of her songs is a masterpiece, and it’s an honour and a special feeling to dedicate a musical evening Hazri, for her at the very place where she rests.”

Deshpande held the audience spellbound with her renditions of ghazals, dadra, and thumri. She opened the evening with a Hazri in Raag Kedar, followed by the ghazal Chha Rahi Kali Ghata, the thumri Ab Ke Sawan Ghar Aa Ja, and the dadra Ho Gayi Beriya Piya. She was accompanied by vocalist Megha Shyamlal Bhatt, Pandit Vinod Lele on the tabla, and Pandit Dharam Nath Mishra on the harmonium. A large gathering of music lovers was present at the Mazar to pay their respects to the legendary singer.

Organiser Madhvi Kuckreja shared, “The musical Hazri has become an annual feature at her Mazar. This year is special because, at our Lucknow Bioscope museum in Sanatkada Ka Adda, we have put up an exclusive exhibition, Life and Legacy of Begum Akhtar. It displays her music LP records, rare articles, some personal belongings, a harmonium gifted by her, and much more.”

A separate two-day musical evening was also organised by Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya at the Kalamandapam auditorium. Pune-based singer Sangeeta Nerurkar performed on the opening day, while Rageshwari Das from Kolkata offered a musical tribute on the concluding day.

Her popular songs including Humri Atariay Pe, Kuch to Duniya Ki Inayat Hai and Aye Mohabaat… were presented on the occasion.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mandvi Singh, remarked, “It is a matter of pride for us that Begum Akhtar was associated with the Bhatkhande Music Institute for some time. Revisiting this historic connection fills us with immense respect and honour. This event is a tribute to the immortal legacy of Begum Akhtar.”

Bruce Springsteen Performs For Steven Van Zandt’s Fundraiser

The Boss is very much back.

Just days after walking the red carpet (and delivering a typical powerhouse performance) for Disney’s biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, Bruce Springsteen made another surprise appearance, this time for Steven Van Zandt’s Party at the Pony.

Per Rolling Stone, Springsteen joined his decades-long bandmate on stage Sunday, Oct. 26 at Asbury Park, New Jersey, for several performances, including “I Don’t Want to Go Home,” the opener and title track to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ first album from 1976, which was produced and arranged by Van Zandt and includes contributions from Springsteen.

Guests were also treated to a rendition of “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” from Springsteen’s third album, 1975’s Born to Run, and, reportedly, a performance of Eddie Floyd’s “Raise Your Hand,” a staple of Springsteen shows since the 1970s.

The evening’s program was billed as featuring members of the “E Street Band Family” with appearances by Jesse Malin, Darlene Love & Gary US Bonds, and musical guests Marc Ribler, Anthony Almonte, Curtis King Jr., Ozzie Melendez, Eddie Manion, and Barry Danielian.

The concert benefited TeachRock, a not-for-profit founded by Van Zandt which aims to improve “students’ lives by bringing the sound, stories, and science of music to all classrooms.”

Springsteen has been front and center in recent days, thanks to the theatrical release of the biographical drama, Deliver Me from Nowhere, and the well-timed arrival of Nebraska 82’: Extended Edition.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deliver Me had to settle for fourth place in its debut after coming in behind expectations with $9.1 million domestically and $7 million internationally from 28 markets for a global start of $16.1 million, though it has yet screen in a number of major markets. The film which had been on track for an open in the $10 million-$12 million range domestically and $20 million globally.

Springsteen doesn’t have any concerts on the slate. But he has hinted at another tour Down Under. Speaking with Rolling Stone earlier this year, the Rock Hall-inducted legend admitted he was long-overdue a long haul to Australia. “I’m doing my best as we speak to get down there, hopefully next year sometime. And I feel bad,” he remarked. “I apologize to my Australian fans for not getting down on this stretch, but I want them to know that we are planning to get down there as soon as feasible, probably in the next year sometime.”

Sabrina Carpenter Performs “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son” on Saturday Night Live: Watch

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Sabrina Carpenter was the host and musical guest on last night’s (October 18) episode of Saturday Night Live, where she performed songs from her new album Man’s Best Friend. Dressed in SNL-themed underwear, Carpenter sang the single “Manchild” into a hairbrush; later, she donned a gi and did some karate for the album track “Nobody’s Son.” Carpenter also starred in sketches throughout the evening as a 12-year-old boy podcast host, a girlboss motivational speaker who suffers a head injury, and a singing washing machine.

In her opening monologue, Carpenter addressed the controversy around the Man’s Best Friend album cover. “What people don’t realize is that’s just how they cropped it,” she joked. “If you zoom out it’s clearly a picture from the [Saturday Night Live] 50th anniversary special of Bowen [Yang] helping me up by the hair after Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line, saying something like ‘Daddy need his mini quiche.’” Carpenter also touched on her brand as a “horndog popstar”—“I’m not just horny, I’m also turned on, and sexually charged”—did some sexually charged crowd work, and was nearly arrested by Keenan Thompson. Watch Carpenter’s full speech and performances, plus her SNL promo video with cast member Marcello Hernandez, below.

Last night marked Carpenter’s third appearance on Saturday Night Live—fourth if you count her cameo in this year’s Quinta Brunson-hosted episode. She first stopped by Studio 8H as musical guest on the heels of her 2024 album Short n’ Sweet, and was a part of SNL50: The Anniversary Special, where she performed a duet of the Simon & Garfunkel song “Homeward Bound” alongside Paul Simon. On Thursday, Carpenter will kick off a run of North American arena shows, with stops in Pittsburgh, New York, Nashville, Toronto, and Los Angeles.

Season 51 of Saturday Night Live premiered on October 4. The season debut was hosted by Bad Bunny, with Doja Cat serving as musical guest. After taking this week off, SNL’s next three episodes are set to feature Miles Teller and Brandi Carlile, Nikki Glaser and Sombr, and Glen Powell and Olivia Dean, respectively.
