Fans react to Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, Janelle Monáe, and Killer Mike’s Outkast tribute – and André 3000 not performing

Performances from Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, Janelle Monáe, and Killer Mike for last night’s OutKast tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have drawn mixed reactions.

Back in April, it was announced that the hip-hop duo were set to be inducted alongside names including The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper and Soundgarden. At last night’s (November 8) ceremony, André 3000 and Big Boi were introduced by Donald Glover, who lauded them for their part in creating a “music Mecca” in Atlanta.

Despite being in attendance at the ceremony, André 3000 didn’t perform. Instead, Doja Cat, Killer Mike, J.I.D., Tyler, the Creator, and Janelle Monáe joined Big Boi for a medley of the duo’s classic hits, which has proved divisive on social media.

The performance kicked off with ‘ATLiens’ with Big Boi joined by J.I.D. This was followed by Doja taking on ‘Ms. Jackson’, however, as many X/Twitters users have pointed out, she appeared to lose her thread halfway through the song and miss lyrics.

“Absolutely disrespectful to show up to someone’s tribute and not know their verse,” one viewer wrote. Many seemed to be in agreement, saying Doja had “messed up the best part”.

However, some leapt to her defence, instead blaming the DJ. “Whoever that DJ is who has the nerve to be rapping super loud and the wrong fucking lyrics at that… he completely ruined a legendary moment,” added one user. “So,” asked another, “did she not know the words, or was he just rapping over her?”

While Tyler’s rendition of ‘B.O.B.’ went down well, Monáe’s take on ‘Hey Ya’ – in particular her choice to take on a strange vocal affectation and crawl across the floor. One highly unimpressed viewer later took to social media to write: “Put Janelle Monae in jail for what she did to Hey Ya.”

The medley continued on with ‘The Way You Move’ featuring Sleepy Brown, and closed out with Killer Mike joining all other artists on stage for ‘The Whole World’. You can check out more social media reactions to the tribute performances below.

I wish Andre 3000 was in the mental space to want to perform at the rock and roll hall of fame, but if he wasn’t then I’m glad he didn’t. The night is about celebrating the legendary duo, not for them to perform in their 50s for OUR entertainment. I hope he’s enjoying his flute.

Kinda bummed that Andre 3000 didn’t perform with Big Boi while getting inducted in the Rock N Roll HOF

— JROC4LYFE🤙🏽 🔜Magfest 2026 (@HawaiianPunchuh) November 9, 2025

OutKast deserved better. We all deserved better. And that’s no slight on Doja but there was no coordination https://t.co/HqXlQE3rw2

— Senior Man (@Ydot_K) November 9, 2025

Put Janelle Monae in jail for what she did to Hey Ya

— Ags (@loganags24) November 9, 2025

Nah they played Outkast with their tribute performance. Doja Cat and Janelle Monae were trash. Everybody else was good though. #RockHall2025

— Julian (@Ju_JustGetsIt) November 9, 2025

i wanna think that whoever else on the mic with her threw her off bc his mic damn near louder than hers but knowing doja… she could very well be up there with no idea of what that man says during that verse smh lol

— That Guy (@KendrickDuh) November 9, 2025

In fairness to her, I think the backup rapper coming in louder than her and also beefing the first line of that verse just completely threw her off 😂

— Joel Nixon (@GoodMorningJoel) November 9, 2025

Shoulda had Tyler the Creator do the whole thing. He had the energy it deserved.

— Marcie Jill (@marciemeow) November 9, 2025

who thought this was a good idea in the 1st place?

— ART VANDELAY © (@mr_artvandely) November 9, 2025

Doja cat performance was terrible… so was Janelle monae… they couldn’t find nobody else???? #Outkast #HallofFame pic.twitter.com/5dOYJtujsl

— 🫶🏽 (@HoneyJaxx_) November 9, 2025

Tyler performed a way harder song and didn’t choke as bad as Doja

That was pathetic

— Snacktar Donutsk 🍩 (@KennySloth253) November 9, 2025

Meanwhile, last December, André 3000 said that OutKast were “further away” from making new music together “than we’ve ever been”.

“I’ll say maybe 10, 15 years ago, in my mind, I thought an OutKast album would happen,” he said. “I don’t know the future, but I can say that we’re further away from it than we’ve ever been.”

“It’s hard for me to make a rap, period, you know? And sometimes I’m in the belief of, ‘Let things be’”, he told Rolling Stone.

He continued: “[OutKast] was a great time in life, and our chemistry was at a certain place that was undeniable,” he said, brushing against the notion that “something has to last forever”.

In May this year, he released a surprise solo EP ‘7 Piano Sketches’, a series of improvisations on piano mostly recorded at a house in Texas.

Manasi Parekh and Tiku Talsania trolled for performing bike stunts to promote Misri, Ahmedabad police files case

National award winner Manasi Parekh’s new Gujarati film Misri arrived in theatres today on October 31. Also starring Raunaq Kamdar, Tiku Talsania, Hitu Kanodia, Kaushambi Bhatt, Princy Prajapati and Prem Gadhavi, the film is a romantic comedy. As fans rush to cinema halls to enjoy the film, Manasi along with Tiku and her other co-stars are facing legal trouble. Ahead of Misri’s release, during a pre-release event, Manasi and Tiku performed dangerous bike stunts on the busy roads of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. What began as a promotional event ended up as a brutally trolled moment, receiving flak from netizens and legal action from the Ahmedabad police.

Manasi Parekh and Tiku Talsania performing stunts

Ahead of the release of their film Misri, the star cast decided to get creative in order to bring attention to the rom com. Actor Tiku Talsania drove a bike while standing whereas his co-star Manasi Parekh recreated the Titanic pose without a helmet while standing behind a rider, who briefly left the bike’s handle to hold her hand in the air. Traffic rules were broken and the team was trolled. Under a viral video, a netizen claimed, “Kya bewakoofi h ye actors ki,” whereas another comment read, “When “promotion” becomes more dangerous than the actual stunt scene, it’s not creativity, it’s stupidity in 4K. 🤦‍♂️.” The team later apologised for their actions.

Sharing an update on the legal action taken, the official social media handle of Ahmedabad police tweeted: “In this case, on 30-10-2025, Crime Register No. 11191051250588/2025 has been registered at “A” Division Traffic Police Station under BNS Section 281 and Motor Vehicles Act Sections 177, 184 for recklessly and negligently driving vehicles at high speed on a public road in a manner endangering human life and performing stunts. Legal action has been initiated.”

Meanwhile, Misri is receiving positive reviews online. Lauding the film, a fan shared, “MISRI is a heartfelt love story wrapped in sweetness, emotions, and melody. With stellar performances, soothing music, and cinematic finesse, it’s a must-watch for every romantic heart,” whereas another review read, “A beautiful, heartfelt, and family entertainer that will touch your heart and make your eyes smile and tear up at the same time. This film is one that will stay with you long after the credits roll.”

Whitney Cummings Defends Performing At Riyadh Comedy Festival

by jummy84 October 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Whitney Cummings is speaking out on the criticism of those who performed at Saudi Arabia’s debut Riyadh Comedy Festival.

Cummings defended her performance at the festival and those of others on her “Good for You” podcast Monday.

“It’s just racism,” she said of the criticism. “I think it took me a second, because when people are going like, ‘You’re doing something unethical,’ I’m like, ‘Oh, these must be ethical people, let me listen.’ And then you’re like, ‘Oh no, you’re just racist.’”

She continued, “I guess I’m this weirdo,” she said. “I don’t operate under, you know, the idea that every government and their people are the same… You think that the people of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi government all [share the same values]? So you also believe that the Chinese government and the Chinese people are exactly the same? It’s just racism. I think it took me a second, because when people are going like, ‘You’re doing something unethical,’ I’m like, ‘Oh, these must be ethical people, let me listen.’ And then you’re like, ‘Oh no, you’re just racist.’ These are also the same people who would go, ‘Trump is not my president! I am nothing like our president.’ But other countries are?”

She also pointed out the hypocrisy of comedians who opposed the festival and of those who performed.

“When you get a sec, google ‘Saudi Arabia Live Nation’ so you can be informed on the fact that anyone who has worked with Live Nation, every stand-up comic, has taken Saudi money,” she said. “Or bought a ticket through Live Nation, went to a Live Nation event, all the actors who are represented by William Morris Agency, which is all of them. If you want to send them notes too.”

Aziz Ansari was among the A-list comedians who defended the controversial decision to perform at the fest and said he planned to donate a portion of his fee to organizations like Reporters Without Borders and Human Rights Watch.

Other comedians who performed at the fest, which ran from Sept. 26 to Oct. 9, include Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, Pete Davidson and Andrew Schulz, among others.

Lesbian Comic Jessica Kirson Apologizes for Performing at Saudi Comedy Festival, While Louis C.K. Calls It a “Good Opportunity”

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

The current Riyadh Comedy Festival taking place in Saudi Arabia has received major backlash, including harsh criticism from comedians who are not participating in the two-week event. Now, comedian Jessica Kirson has apologized for performing at the festival, while the embattled Louis C.K. has defended his appearance.

The festival features a who’s who of prominent comedians who earned major paychecks for their appearances, including Dave Chappelle, Sebastian Maniscalco, Kevin Hart, Chris Tucker, Bill Burr, Pete Davidson, Whitney Cummings, and more.

In recent days, fellow comedians like Marc Maron, Shane Gillis, and David Cross (who wrote a lengthy takedown of his peers) have blasted the festival and the stand-up comics on the lineup, citing Saudi Arabia’s involvement in 9/11, the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and the country’s history of oppressing women and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Jessica Kirson, who is openly lesbian, issued an apology after performing at the festival on September 29th. Her statement to The Hollywood Reporter reads, in part, “I hoped that this could help LGBTQ+ people in Saudi Arabia feel seen and valued. I am grateful that I was able to do precisely that — to my knowledge, I am the first openly gay comic to talk about it on stage in Saudi Arabia. I received messages from attendees sharing how much it meant to them to participate in a gay-affirming event. At the same time, I deeply regret participating under the auspices of the Saudi government.”

She added, “Most importantly, I am deeply sorry to all the fans and followers I have hurt or disappointed.”

Louis C.K., meanwhile, appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, on Friday night, prior to his scheduled performance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival, and defended his decision to perform at the event, even referencing Kirson’s performance.

“When I’m talking to the other comedians who have been there, they’ve been really surprised by what’s going on,” said C.K. “There’s a woman who’s a lesbian and Jewish, who did a show there, and she got a standing ovation. So, there’s stuff going on that’s unexpected in this thing. People have been playing Saudi Arabia for years. Comedians have been going and playing Arab countries. There was a film festival there recently, it’s kind of opened up. But I’ve always said no to Arab countries.”

He continued, “And when this came up, they said there’s only two restrictions — their religion and their government, I don’t have jokes about those two things. It used to be when I got offers from places like that, there would be a long list, and I’d just say, ‘No, I don’t need that.’ But when I heard it’s opening, I thought, that’s awfully interesting. That just feels like a good opportunity. And I just feel like comedy is a great way to get in and start talking.”

The interview with Maher marked Louis C.K.’s first TV interview since admitting to sexual misconduct allegations back in 2017.

Louis C.K. Defends Performing at Riyadh Comedy Fest

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Louis C.K. is explaining why he decided to take part in Saudi Arabia‘s Riyadh Comedy Festival.

During his Friday appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, he defended his choice to perform at the comedy festival that has stirred up controversy since it kicked off last Friday. The topic of comics being prohibited to not make jokes about certain themes came up in his conversation with Bill Maher, to which C.K. said the fellow comedians he know who have been at the fest have “been really surprised by what’s going on.”

“When I’m talking to the other comedians who have been there, they’ve been really surprised by what’s going on. There’s a woman who’s a lesbian and Jewish, who did a show there, and she got a standing ovation. So, there’s stuff going on that’s unexpected in this thing,” he said. “People have been playing Saudi Arabia for years. Comedians have been going and playing Arab countries. There was a film festival there recently, it’s kind of opened up. But I’ve always said no to Arab countries.”

C.K. continued, “And when this came up, they said there’s only two restrictions — their religion and their government, I don’t have jokes about those two things.

Riyadh Fest began Sept. 26 and will end Oct. 9. Alongside C.K., Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Carr, Kevin Hart, Pete Davidson, Whitney Cummings, Russell Peters, Gabriel Iglesias and Andrew Schulz, among others, are featured on the lineup.

Last week, Atsuko Okatsuka shared details from her offer to appear at Riyadh, which outlined “censorship rules” against performing jokes on outlined topics. David Cross, too, slammed those who chose to perform, writing on his website, “I am disgusted, and deeply disappointed in this whole gross thing. That people I admire, with unarguable talent, would condone this totalitarian fiefdom for…what, a fourth house? A boat? More sneakers?”

Before that, Marc Maron spoke out against those participating in the comedy festival.

“I mean, how do you even promote that? You know, like, ‘From the folks that brought you 9/11. Two weeks of laughter in the desert, don’t miss it!’” Maron said. “I mean, the same guy that’s gonna pay them is the same guy that paid that guy to bone saw [journalist] Jamal Khashoggi and put him in a fucking suitcase. But don’t let that stop the yucks, it’s gonna be a good time!”

The Emmy winner acknowledged the wider conversation about the festival. “I had mixed feelings about it too. I struggled about going once I heard what everybody was saying,” C.K. said. “There’s some good in it, maybe some bad in it. But for me, I think it cuts toward going. That’s my decision, and I know where it’s coming from, because I can see right inside myself.”

C.K. added, “I love stand-up comedy, and I love comedians. So, the fact that that’s opening up and starting to bud, I wanna see it, I wanna be part of it. I think that’s a positive thing.”

The six-time Emmy winner is slated to perform at Riyadh Fest on Monday alongside Carr.

Gloria Estefan On Bad Bunny Performing At Super Bowl & Why She Declined Joining Shakira & Jennifer Lopez

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Gloria Estefan shares her thoughts on Bad Bunny performing at Super Bowl LV during halftime.

The Latin music icon is no stranger to performing on the Super Bowl stage, having made two appearances during her career. During an appearance on The Sherri Shepherd Show, Estefan expressed her excitement over the Puerto Rican singer being announced as the performer for next year’s big NFL game.

“I’m so happy for him … I think it’s great,” she said. “I think we need Latino representation in this particular moment. The Latinos have burned up that show. I have done two of them.”

Estefan first performed in 1992, where she sang hits like “Live for Loving You” and “Get on Your Feet.” Athletes from the 1992 Winter Olympics joined her on the stage at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1999, Estefan returned to the Super Bowl, where she performed alongside Stevie Wonder, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Savion Glover.

During her appearance on the Shepherd’s syndicated talk show, Estefan revealed that Jay-Z (producer of the Super Bowl halftime show) asked her to perform in 2020 alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, but she declined.

“It would have been my third time,” she said. “First of all, they’re already dividing that time and it’s really quick. You’re in and out. And secondly, I was going to have to diet during Christmas. I did not. You know what? It’s their moment … I don’t want to push my luck. The two times went great.”

When Shepherd asked Estefan if she was to be asked by Bad Bunny to perform at next year’s Super Bowl, she said, “Again, it’s his moment. I think he’s killing it this year. for him it’s been phenomenal. I danced the day I saw him when he was singing in Spanish on SNL because that had never happened.”

Estefan suggested Karol G as a guest performer, given her resounding success. The Colombian singer recently performed during the NFL’s first international game of the season in São Paulo.
