Record TV Ratings on NBC, Peacock

A record number of viewers tuned in for NBC’s coverage of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.

The network said Friday that 34.3 million viewers tuned in to coverage of the 99th annual parade across NBC and Peacock, according to preliminary Nielsen data. That marks its biggest combined audience on record, outperforming last year’s parade by 2.5 million viewers, an increase of 8 percent. (It’s worth noting that Peacock has about 5 million more subscribers than it did a year ago at this time.)

The original 8:30 a.m. ET broadcast on NBC averaged 25.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched entertainment telecast in nearly seven years, since the Academy Awards telecast on Feb. 24, 2019, which aired on ABC.

Meanwhile, the adults 18-49 viewership was up 13 percent from the previous year. The original broadcast marked the highest-rated entertainment telecast in five years, since NBC’s coverage of the 2020 Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In other Thanksgiving programming, The National Dog Show Presented by Purina averaged 12.8 million viewers, a 4 percent increase over last year. In late-night, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers brought in their biggest audiences since their post-NFL broadcasts on Sept. 4.

“These record-breaking numbers signify how beloved this parade is to our audience and we couldn’t be more thrilled to begin the holiday season on such a wonderful note,” said Jen Neal, executive vp live events and specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “A profound thank-you to Macy’s for their partnership in producing such an iconic event.”

Added Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer at Macy’s: “This year’s record-breaking ratings are a powerful testament to the creative mastery, technical precision and storytelling ambition Macy’s offers. We are deeply proud to create entertainment that showcases today’s top talent and captures the cultural zeitgeist to connect with our audiences and consistently redefine the benchmark for televised and streaming programming. As we look toward the 100th Macy’s Parade, we remain dedicated to leveraging our unique capabilities to inspire wonder and joy for millions nationwide, ensuring our programs exceed expectations year after year.”

NBC’s coverage of this year’s parade was again hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker. It marked Kotb’s first return to hosting duties on the network following her departure from Today in January. In addition to floats, marching bands and giant balloons, this year’s edition featured performers including Cynthia Erivo, Lil Jon, Busta Rhymes, Jonathan Groff, Ciara, Jewel, Foreigner,  Teyana Taylor and EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI from KPop group HUNTR/X of KPop Demon Hunters.

Apple TV & Peacock, Streamers That Could Use a Bump, Are Teaming Up

Apple TV & Peacock, Streamers That Could Use a Bump, Are Teaming Up

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

If reports are to be believed, Apple TV has about 45 million subscribers. Peacock last quarter saw no growth and was stuck with just 41 million subscribers. Peacock in its Q2 lost $101 million, and Apple TV potentially loses as much as $1 billion a year.

These are two streamers that can use a boost, and now they’re helping each other.

Apple and NBCUniversal announced on Thursday a bundle between Apple TV and Peacock (no plusses to be found anywhere), beginning on October 20. For $14.99 a month, you can now get both Apple TV and Peacock Premium (the one with ads), which is a savings of over 30 percent on buying them both individually. Upgrading to the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus (OK, we lied) bundled with Apple TV (which still does not have any ads) costs $19.99 a month. Apple is also going a step further and allowing people who get Apple One, which combines all of Apple’s services, including TV, Arcade, Cloud, Fitness+, etc. to also get Peacock for a slightly better discount of about 35 percent.

Palm Royale

This move is a little different than what Peacock did in partnership with Amazon Prime Video a couple of months ago. In that case, Peacock is just an add-on as part of Prime’s many channels, but this is an actual discount on the two services, and it ties everything up — ones you might have been inclined to cancel in between seasons of “The Traitors” and “Severance” — such that you keep both around for longer.

That’s doubly so if you and your family depend on the Apple Cloud and want to keep all the other things that come with it, including now Peacock. It also gives Apple an easy way to get closer to the NBA without actually having to pay for it, as NBA games will be back on Peacock and NBC later this month.

Though if you’re not ready to pull the trigger, in an unusual perk, Peacock users can watch the first three episodes each of some Apple TV shows, including “Stick,” “Slow Horses,” “Silo,” “The Buccaneers,” “Foundation,” “Palm Royale,” and “Prehistoric Planet,” and Apple TV users can watch the first three episodes of Peacock series including “Law & Order,” “Bel-Air,” “Twisted Metal,” “Love Island Games,” “Happy’s Place,” “The Hunting Party,” and “Real Housewives of Miami.”

Honestly, your head may be spinning from all the different bundles and trying to figure out the way to get the best price without also having to cancel and manage the subscriptions you already do have. But the reason any of this matters is that if these streamers don’t bundle, they’ll likely die. Not Apple TV and Peacock specifically, but any streamers, as we’re oversaturated to the point that not all of them will survive likely in the near future. NBCUniversal has already divvied up its cable channels as part of its spun-off company Versant, so all those cable channels that could’ve originally fueled Peacock’s growth are now elsewhere.

For Apple, its movies and TV business is a loss leader, and the same rules don’t apply as for other streamers. But all these expensive shows still need eyeballs, and it just got a potential 41 million people who might be interested in watching.

A New Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne Documentary Is Coming to Peacock

A New Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne Documentary Is Coming to Peacock

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

EXCLUSIVE: Peacock will show Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home having landed the U.S. rights to the poignant film. The NBCUniversal-owned streamer will launch the documentary on its service next week (Oct. 13).

This doc follows Ozzy and his wife Sharon as they plan their return to the UK from the U.S. and then finally make the move. Their kids, Jack and Kelly, also feature as the couple up sticks and head home.

It was produced by UK label Expectation in association with JOKS Productions. The film also chronicles the preparation for Ozzy’s huge Back To The Beginning farewell gig, as he struggles to overcome health issues in order to be able to perform. The concert featured Ozzy and the original Black Sabbath lineup as well as the likes of Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.

Osbourne died in July, aged 76. He achieved global fame having co-founded Black Sabbath, before going on to have a successful solo career. The star, once dubbed the Prince of Darkness, toured for years, living the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle to the full. He was also a family man and cameras famously captured him at home with Sharon and the kids in the breakout MTV series The Osbournes.

The new film was commissioned by the BBC in the UK. It was originally destined to be a full-fledged series but ended up a single film as events played out. It went out in early October in the UK. The first title was Home To Roost, but the BBC and international title is now Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home.

Paramount+ also has an Ozzy Osbourne doc, Ozzy: No Escape From Now. The Expectation film, meanwhile, has footage and interviews with Ozzy, Sharon and family gathered over several years, and capturing the couple in reflective mood as they talk about their lives, family and relationships as they make the trans-Atlantic house move.

The film is sold internationally by Banijay Rights, which cut the U.S. deal. It’s a splashy distribution agreement days ahead of MIPCOM, the biggest TV sales market of the year, which kicks off next week in Cannes. Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home will be on the Banijay slate in Cannes, and it will be looking to close more deals on the film.

“To secure the US home for the final, inspirational chapter of Ozzy Osbourne’s life is an absolute privilege for us at Banijay Rights,” said Matt Creasey, the company’s EVP, Sales, Coproductions & Acquisitions. “We are pleased our partners at Peacock have committed to what is a deeply moving look at one of the world’s most well-known families.”

Walmart+ Membership Comes With Peacock, Paramount+: Sign Up Online

Walmart+ Membership Comes With Peacock, Paramount+: Sign Up Online

Walmart is continuing to make its way into the streaming space. The retailer is expanding its five-year-old Walmart+ program with a new entertainment twist: members can now choose between Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential, included at no additional cost with their annual or monthly membership. The move places Walmart+ squarely in the middle of the ever-evolving streaming landscape, giving subscribers access to a major platform without having to tack on another bill.

The retail giant has steadily layered benefits onto Walmart+ since its 2020 launch — from free delivery on grocery and general merchandise orders over $35, to next-day and two-day shipping on Walmart.com with no order minimum, to savings on fuel at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, Murphy stations and Sam’s Club. Now, by integrating streaming into its bundle, Walmart is positioning its membership as not just a shopping convenience, but a lifestyle membership that covers entertainment as well as household needs.

The streaming add-on arrives at a moment when consolidation is reshaping the media landscape. To maintain a competitive edge, both Paramount+ and Peacock have grown their streaming lineups with some of the buzziest film and show titles, live events and cable news offerings.

Peacock continues to roll out original series alongside NBCUniversal’s robust live sports lineup, in addition to complete seasons and new next-day episodes from NBC and Bravo, and an expansive library of beloved films and TV shows. Paramount+, meanwhile, offers exclusive access to original series, blockbuster movies, a mix of new releases and timeless favorites from CBS, Nickelodeon, and more, along with live sports such as the UEFA Champions League.

Walmart+ remains priced at $98 /year or $12.95/month, with a 30-day free trial available. Plus, members must re-select their preferred streaming service every 90 days, meaning they can oscillate between Peacock or Paramount+ depending on their preferred shows and films at any given time.

Peacock Adds Amazon Prime Video Subscription: Analysis

Peacock Adds Amazon Prime Video Subscription: Analysis

by jummy84 August 29, 2025
written by jummy84

If we asked you how many streaming services is too many streamers, you’d probably at best say a number you can count on both hands. And yet Amazon Prime Video via its subscriptions has “more than a 100” different streamers you’ve probably never heard of that you can get without needing a hundred different logins and passwords.

On Thursday, Amazon and NBCUniversal announced that Peacock Premium would now be available as a subscription add-on via Prime Video. It means instead of subscribing directly to Peacock, you can get all of Peacock’s content by adding it to your Prime membership (it’s priced at $16.99 per month and $169.99 per year and is ad-free). That in itself isn’t notable, but with Peacock joining the fray, it leaves Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu the only major streamers that you can’t get on Amazon.

Cliff Curtis in 'Chief of War'

HBO Max returned to Amazon not long ago after being away, and Apple TV+ joining the service was a big coup considering the two tech giants are massive competitors and that Apple fancies itself as its own one-stop shop for people to stream whatever they want. Some of the other subscriptions you can add include Paramount+, FOX One, MGM+, Crunchyroll, STARZ, BET+, AMC+, and BritBox, to name just a few.

While those are all streamers that have their own apps you can subscribe to directly, Amazon also has plenty that don’t have their own terrestrial apps you can download and are only available through places like Amazon or other channels. One we previously reported on was Wonder Project, which is the faith-based company behind “House of David,” and today they announced it launches on October 5, just to add to the hundreds of services.

Because Amazon also offers many of these streamers as part of bundles, it makes it that much less likely that you cancel Amazon Prime entirely. It also helps Amazon as a brand, because although Peacock may officially be the home to “Poker Face” and “The Traitors,” if you’re accessing those shows and HBO’s and Paramount’s all through one platform on Amazon, the average user begins to not even be able to tell the difference.

Such is the utopian vision of streaming that many executives have long touted, that there will be one super streamer to rule them all and you won’t have to do guess work to figure out which service has the show you actually want to watch (some people used to call this cable). Amazon is inching closer to being that leader, but they’d have to still make up a lot of ground if it was going to convince Netflix and Disney that they need it. Netflix is dominant enough on its own that other studios — including NBCUniversal — continue to license their content to Netflix, and that Netflix doesn’t need to rely on any other bundles to keep people from canceling. Disney meanwhile has taken great pains (and billions of dollars) to merge the functionality of Disney+, Hulu, and the newly launched ESPN streamer into one place.

But Amazon must be doing something right if even Peacock sees the value of hitching its wagon to the big guy.

‘Office’ Spinoff ‘The Paper’ Getting Binge Release on Peacock

‘Office’ Spinoff ‘The Paper’ Getting Binge Release on Peacock

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Peacock is changing the release schedule for its Office follow-up The Paper.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer says it will make the comedy a binge release, debuting the full 10-episode season on Sept. 4. The Paper had previously been slated to roll out over four weeks, with the first four episodes coming on the premiere day and two per week after that through Sept. 25.

Citing positive responses from people who have previewed the series (though not in print; reviews are embargoed until closer to the premiere), Peacock, Universal Television and the show’s producers decided to make the change and drop the entire season at once. The move will also put the entirety of The Paper in front of audiences several weeks before the start of the traditional TV season makes the premiere calendar even more crowded.

The Paper is set in the same world as The Office, with the documentary crew that filmed the workers of Dunder Mifflin taking on a new subject. It stars Domhnall Gleeson as Ned Sampson, the new editor of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a historic Ohio newspaper that has fallen on hard time. Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key and Oscar Nuñez — reprising his Office role — also star. Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim and Tracy Letts have guest roles. Ikumelo, Edelman, Rahill and Welch are also writers on the series.

Greg Daniels, who created the American Office, and Michael Koman co-created The Paper. They executive produce with The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas.
