‘Slow Horses’ pays subtle tribute to Gary Oldman’s ‘The Dark Knight’ co-star Heath Ledger

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The writers of Slow Horses appear to have hidden a tribute to Heath Ledger in the fifth season of the show.

Gary Oldman plays the lead character Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV spy comedy series, and also starred as Lt. Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s beloved 2008 film The Dark Knight, and in episode five of the new season of Slow Horses, the two streams appeared to cross.

In a scene in which he becomes frustrated with his colleague, Oldman’s character snaps, “When you talk, I wanna stick a pencil in my eye and headbutt the table!”

Fans have speculated that this could be a sly reference to a memorable scene in The Dark Knight in which Ledger’s Joker intimidates a group of organised criminals by asking, “How about a magic trick?” before slamming a pencil into the table. “I’m going to make the pencil disappear,” he adds.

As one of the mob confronts him, the Joker smashed his head eye-first through the pencil. “Ta-da!” he exclaims. “It’s gone.”

Ledger passed away at the age of 28, before The Dark Knight was even released in 2008, and went on to pick up an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his iconic role in the film.

Many of Ledger’s co-stars have continued to express their sorrow at his loss in recent years, including Paul Bettany, who said last month that he continues to be unable to rewatch A Knight’s Tale because he misses his co-star so much.

Earlier this year, Michael Caine, who played the butler Alfred in The Dark Knight, said he was left “terrified” by Ledger’s performance. “The smeared makeup, the weird hair, the strange voice. It was chilling,” he wrote. “Absolutely floored me the first time I saw him in action – I was terrified”.

The Slow Horses season five final was on October 29, but it has already been commissioned for a sixth season.

Summer Walker Pays Tribute To Anna Nicole Smith On New Album Cover

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Summer Walker has taken inspiration from late cultural icon Anna Nicole Smith for the cover art for her forthcoming studio album Finally Over It, recreating the infamous photograph of Smith at her wedding ceremony with J. Howard Marshall.

Walker unveiled the album’s cover art via social media on Wednesday (Nov. 6) evening, announcing that the project will be released on Friday, Nov. 14.

The cover is a coy reference to the R&B star’s disenchantment with traditional romantic relationships and prioritization of financial and material gain in her dealings with men, an accusation levied upon Anna Nicole Smith regarding her own love life.

In June 1994, Smith, who was 26-years-old at the time, married Marshall, an 89 year-old millionaire and former government official, in a wedding held at the White Dove Chapel in Houston, TX.

Marshall, a stakeholder in notably Koch Industries with an estimated net worth of $550 million, would pass away of pneumonia in August 1995, with Smith eventually losing a lengthy legal battle with Marshall’s family and estate regarding his fortune.

Walker, whose tumultuous relationships have been addressed in her music and bled over into tabloid fodder, has been vocal about her newfound attitude towards men, an admission the 29-year-old recently made in a clip that went viral on social media.

“Men are providers, and that’s it,” the hitmaker told journalist Speedy Morman during an interview. “I’m not attracted to them.” When asked whether that meant “bleeding them dry,” she chuckled while confirming, “Yes. As soon as I get everything, you’re off.”

Prior to those comments, life seemingly imitated her art, as Walker showed up to the 2025 MTV VMAs with an older Caucasian man as her “mystery guest.”

Following her 2019 effort Over It and its 2021 sequel Still Over It, Finally Over It arrives a full four years after the previous offering in the series and marks the songstresses most anticipated release to date.

With high-profile features alongside Usher (“Good Good”), Odeal (“You’re Stuck), and Cardi B (“Dead,” “Shower Tears”), her own 2024 hit single “Heart of a Woman,” and her most release solo release “Spend It,” the GRAMMY-nominated artist has managed to keep her voice on the airwaves and increase her popularity despite sporadic releases, an admirable task in today’s content-hungry landscape.

The state capital hosted various events to commemorate the legacy of Mallika-e-Ghazal Begum Akhtar. Marking her death anniversary on October 30, 1974, Padma Shri awardee and Hindustani classical singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande paid a musical tribute, presenting the legendary artist’s popular songs at her Mazar in Pasand Bagh, Old City.

The singer from Jaipur’s Atrauli Gharana expressed her reverence, stating, “Like everyone, I am a very big fan of Begum Akhtar’s ghazals, her dadras, and thumris. Each of her songs is a masterpiece, and it’s an honour and a special feeling to dedicate a musical evening Hazri, for her at the very place where she rests.”

Deshpande held the audience spellbound with her renditions of ghazals, dadra, and thumri. She opened the evening with a Hazri in Raag Kedar, followed by the ghazal Chha Rahi Kali Ghata, the thumri Ab Ke Sawan Ghar Aa Ja, and the dadra Ho Gayi Beriya Piya. She was accompanied by vocalist Megha Shyamlal Bhatt, Pandit Vinod Lele on the tabla, and Pandit Dharam Nath Mishra on the harmonium. A large gathering of music lovers was present at the Mazar to pay their respects to the legendary singer.

Organiser Madhvi Kuckreja shared, “The musical Hazri has become an annual feature at her Mazar. This year is special because, at our Lucknow Bioscope museum in Sanatkada Ka Adda, we have put up an exclusive exhibition, Life and Legacy of Begum Akhtar. It displays her music LP records, rare articles, some personal belongings, a harmonium gifted by her, and much more.”

A separate two-day musical evening was also organised by Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya at the Kalamandapam auditorium. Pune-based singer Sangeeta Nerurkar performed on the opening day, while Rageshwari Das from Kolkata offered a musical tribute on the concluding day.

Her popular songs including Humri Atariay Pe, Kuch to Duniya Ki Inayat Hai and Aye Mohabaat… were presented on the occasion.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mandvi Singh, remarked, “It is a matter of pride for us that Begum Akhtar was associated with the Bhatkhande Music Institute for some time. Revisiting this historic connection fills us with immense respect and honour. This event is a tribute to the immortal legacy of Begum Akhtar.”

‘High Potential’ Pays Tribute To Original Series’ Co-Creator Nicholas Jean

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

High Potential paid tribute to Nicolas Jean during the closing credits of the ABC procedural.

The French screenwriter was one of the co-creators of the series HPI, the original series that inspired the U.S. adaptation starring Kaitlin Olson.

“In Memory of Nicolas Jean,” read the title card at the end of Episode 7 of the series (see below).

It was earlier this month that the French writers’ guild, SACD, announced that Jean had died suddenly on September 29.

“Nicolas Jean entered the industry thirteen years ago and had a meteoric rise. Self-taught, with an atypical background that enriched his fictional stories, he quickly established himself as a talented and essential screenwriter on television,” wrote screenwriter and SACD administrator Florence Philipponnat in a message posted on Instagram.

“He had a gift for freely inventing original concepts, freeing himself from imposed constraints. And he knew how to intelligently surround himself with creative writers to develop them with him, because he was passionate about sharing and generosity.”

HPI: Haut Potential Intellectuel (High Intellectual Potential) was co-created by Nicolas Jean alongside Stéphane Carrié and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot. The series premiered in 2021 and continues producing new episodes. In the U.S., the series is available to stream on Hulu as HIP: High Intellectual Potential.

ABC’s High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillroy, a single mother with an unconventional knack for solving crimes. The cast of the series also includes Daniel Sunjata (Adam Karadec), Javicia Leslie (Daphne Forrester), Deniz Akdeniz (Oz), Amirah J (Ava Gillroy), Matthew Lamb (Elliot Radovic) and Judy Reyes (Selena Soto). Season 2 of the series added Steve Howey as a series regular playing the precinct’s new captain, Jesse Wagner.

See the title card in memory of Nicolas Jean below.

Sarah Paulson has paid an emotional tribute to her late friend and co-star Diane Keaton

Following the Oscar-winning actor’s death earlier this month aged 79, the actress spoke to Access Hollywood at the premiere of her new Hulu series All’s Fair about the loss, with Sarah, 50, saying she was struggling to come to terms with the passing.

She said: “She was a very dear friend of mine, so it’s not something I’m able to talk about yet. I’m not able to talk about it. But all I can say, and I have been saying tonight, which is important to me to communicate, is that what you thought she was as a performer, she was even more spectacular as a human being.”

Sarah and Diane first met while filming the 1999 movie The Other Sister, in which Diane played her fellow actress’ on-screen mother.

The pair remained close friends for the next 25 years until Diane’s death.

Sarah added: “I was the luckiest person in the world to have had her in my life the way that I did.”

At the same event, the star spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and described the loss as “profoundly sad”.

She said: “I can’t talk about it in any way that’s articulate other than to say that for all you knew and loved about her as a performer, she was even more as a friend.”

Diane’s family confirmed her death on 16 October, saying she died of pneumonia on 11 October.

In a statement released to the press, they said: “The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane.

“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

In the days following her death, several Hollywood figures shared tributes to Keaton, including Keanu Reeves, Patricia Arquette, Clint Eastwood, Richard Gere and Al Pacino, who starred alongside her in The Godfather films.

Deepika Padukone visited Madhya Pradesh to mark 10 years of her foundation, Live Love Laugh, ahead of World Mental Health Day.

Actor Deepika Padukone has been making headlines for the last few months for various reasons. The actor shared an emotional note on teaming up with Shah Rukh Khan for King, weeks after it was announced that she would not be a part of Kalki 2898 AD sequel. She was also replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. The actor also heralded a debate on long working hours on sets with these reports.

Deepika Padukone will soon start working on Atlee’s next film, which is tentatively-titled AA22xA6.

The actor, who has been an advocate for mental health, visited Madhya Pradesh to mark 10 years of her foundation, Live Love Laugh, which continues to spread awareness and support for mental health across India.

What Deepika said

At the event, when she was asked if she ever thought she would have to pay a price for asking what she believes is fair, Deepika replied, “I have done this on many levels, this is not new to me I think even as pay is concerned you know I have had to deal with with whatever comes with you know I don’t… I don’t even know what to call it but I am someone who always fought my battles silently, and for some strange reasons, sometimes they become public, which is not the way I know and not the way I’ve been brought up but yes to fight my battles and to do it silently and in a dignified way is the way I know.”

Deepika made her acting debut in Bollywood with Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Directed by Farah Khan, the film was released in 2017.

Deepika was last seen in Singham Again, helmed by Rohit Shetty. The film also starred Ranveer, Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff among others. It was released in theatres last year. She is working with Shah Rukh Khan on his next film, King.

“What a career, what an actor, what a sad loss,” wrote Piers Morgan.

Film at Lincoln Center called Redford “a true icon of the silver screen, a tireless champion of up-and-coming film artists…”

Jimmy Kimmel Pays Heartfelt Regis Philbin Tribute After Emmy Win

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel walked away with a trophy at Sunday night’s (September 7) 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards and used his acceptance speech to thank the late Regis Philbin.

The late-night host won the Emmy for Outstanding Host For A Game Show for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, beating out Jeopardy!‘s Ken Jennings, Pop Culture Jeopardy!‘s Colin Jost, Celebrity Family Feud‘s Steve Harvey, and Press Your Luck‘s Elizabeth Banks.

After collecting the trophy, Kimmel praised Millionaire‘s original host, Philbin, who won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host back in 2001. Kimmel said Philbin, who died in 2020, was “watching over all of us right now,” per Deadline.

He spoke more about Philbin backstage, telling the press, “Regis was the best at this. I don’t think the show would still be on the air if Regis hadn’t hosted it to start with. He was such an unusual pick at the time. I don’t think people remember that because it became such a big sensation, not just a hit, but like a cultural phenomenon. So people didn’t think about how Regis was a very unlikely choice.”

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host went on to say how Philbin was “always nice” to him, adding, “It’s exciting to have this [award] and to know that he has this same Emmy somewhere in his family’s collection as well.”

During his speech, Kimmel also thanked the show’s executive producer, Michael Davies, who was also the producer on Win Ben Stein’s Money, the late 1990s Comedy Central game show that won Kimmel his first Emmy.

In recent years, Kimmel won Emmys for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for his Live in Front of a Studio Audience collaborations with Norman Lear. The specials saw recreations of some of Lear’s classic sitcoms, including All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, The Facts of Life, and Diff’rent Strokes.

When asked backstage whether he would do another Live in Front of a Studio Audience, Kimmel suggested it wouldn’t feel right to do it without Lear, who passed away in December 2023. “It would be too emotional to do it without Norman Lear, you know, I don’t know if my heart could take it,” he shared.

Kimmel, who signed a three-year deal with ABC in 2022, was also asked about his future in late-night and whether he’s thought about retirement.

“I’m not prepared to answer that question,” he responded. “It’s something I think about a lot. Things have changed a lot over the last few years, over the last nine years, I guess, and each day is a new adventure, and I kind of take them as they come.”
