bitchy | Andrew Windsor will receive a lump-sum six-figure payment & a private annuity

Last Friday, I did the math on Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s “settlement” with King Charles, and by my calculations, Andrew is walking away with SO MUCH. My guess, last week, was that Andrew likely got a lump-sum payment to relinquish his lease on Royal Lodge, probably millions of dollars/pounds. He’s also getting: a rent-free home for life on the Sandringham estate; enough funding to ensure that he has household staff; security paid for by the crown; annual income, paid by Charles; protection from prosecution; and finally, the ability and freedom to travel, especially to the Middle East. But the most valuable thing Charles got in return, it seems, is the freedom to brief the media about how Andrew isn’t really getting that much. According to new reporting, Andrew is only receiving one six-figure lump-sum payment, plus a generous “annuity.”

The former Duke of York is in line to receive a large one-off payment and an annual stipend designed to prevent him overspending in his new life as a commoner, the Guardian understands.

One option for a relocation settlement, as the king strives for a “once and for all” solution to the problem of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, includes an initial six-figure sum to cover his move from Royal Lodge in Windsor to private accommodation in Sandringham, Norfolk.

This would be followed by an annuity, paid from Charles’s private funds, and thought to be several times Mountbatten Windsor’s £20k-a-year navy pension, sources close to the matter said. Talks on the relocation package are believed to be ongoing.

Now stripped of his titles including prince and HRH, Mountbatten Windsor was struck from the official roll of the peerage just hours after Buckingham Palace announced the formal process had been initiated.

[From The Guardian]

Here’s the thing: while I could totally see Charles relishing having this kind of financial control over Andrew, I just think that the reporting on this situation is incomplete. Andrew is getting everything the Guardian describes… and more. Andrew held the upper hand in his negotiations with Charles, and one of the biggest issues was Andrew’s lease on Royal Lodge. While Charles/BP has made a big deal about serving Andrew with eviction papers, that’s all for show if you read the fine print – Andrew can only be “evicted” if he agrees to leave, and he would only agree to leave for a significant amount of cash. That’s what he’s been saying for years, Charles just refused to listen until now.

Currently, the Evening Standard points out that Andrew will be denied his “half a million pound compensation for giving up his lease on Royal Lodge.” Meaning, the Crown Estates will not pay the compensation. Because I’m almost positive that Andrew and Charles struck an off-the-books deal about Royal Lodge. The lack of Crown Estates compensation makes much more sense if you understand that Andrew is getting a different kind of settlement from Charles from his Duchy of Lancaster slumlord funds.

Is Venmo Still Down? Why the Payment App Isn’t Working Today – Hollywood Life

From Snapchat to Venmo, and even two airlines, the AWS outage on October 20, 2025, caused mass pandemonium around the world. Though Amazon said it was able to identify the problem, multiple online services and apps still aren’t working for countless users. And for those trying to make and receive payments, the urgency to restore Venmo is rising. So, is Venmo still down, or will transactions still be on pause?

Below, get a status update on Venmo, and learn how its outage happened.

Why Is Venmo Not Working?

Venmo likely wasn’t working on October 20 because of the widespread AWS outage. Though Amazon does not own Venmo, its online service shutdown sent shockwaves throughout the technology industry, affecting airlines, banks and other essential services.

The problem exploded in the early morning hours on October 20. While Amazon promptly said it “mitigated” the outage, it still warned users that they could still see errors in loading certain apps and platforms.

“The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now,” Amazon said in a statement. “Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution. Additionally, some services are continuing to work through a backlog of events such as Cloudtrail and Lambda.”

Venmo has yet to publicly comment on its outage. The last update the company made was via its X account four days ago on October 16 about its Taco Bell Rewards deal. Multiple commenters complained under the post that they were logged out of their accounts and couldn’t access them.

Now there’s an easier way to get a free taco. Just pay with Venmo in the Taco Bell app. It’s basically a free taco button.

Is Venmo Still Down?

Yes, for thousands of Venmo customers, the app is still down at the time of publication. According to Downdetector, a surge in outage reports came at around 11:00 a.m. ET, and it decreased by noon.

Who Owns Venmo?

PayPal has owned Venmo since 2013.

When Will Venmo Be Back Up?

Since Venmo has yet to comment on its outage, it’s unclear when the app will be completely restored. However, according to Graeme Bragg, a computer networking expert from the University of Southampton, the issues with all online platforms might continue for “the rest of the day.”

“This morning, an issue affecting Amazon’s US East caused significant disruption, with the underlying cause attributed to a problem with DNS – the ‘phone book’ of the internet that helps computers find each other,” Bragg said, according to The Independent. “This has affected lots of services hosted in different regions because Amazon host a lot of their management infrastructure that other services depend on in that region. This is a significant outage because of how many companies rely on Amazon and the global scale of the impact.”

Bragg continued, “The underlying issue has now been resolved but it will take some time to propagate across the internet. Amazon’s servers also have a backlog of requests to work through, so it’s likely that we will see some disruption for the rest of the day.”

Are ’The Amazing Race’ Contestants Paid? Final Prize and More Payment Details

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The Amazing Race is currently in its 38th season CBS, with a new cast of pairs racing around the world to win a grand prize. But how much do the competitors actually get for their time on the show?

Scroll down for everything we know about the payouts for the contestants on The Amazing Race and details about the money that the winners take home at the end of the race.

How much do The Amazing Race winners get?

The grand prize on The Amazing Race is $1 million for the winning pair. That amount has not changed since the show first premiered in 2001.

Of course, the $1 million is taxed, so the duo won’t walk away with that full amount. Since the prize is considered income, there are state and federal taxes taken out. The amount varies depending on what state the winners live in.

Do Amazing Race contestants get paid?

It’s not only the winners who walk away with money. Men’s Health previously reported that the runner-ups get $25,000 and the team that finishes in third place gets $10,000 (of course, this is all before taxes).

Executive producer Elise Doganieri told People that every team “gets a small percentage of a cash prize,” as well.  Mark “Abba” Abbattista, who competed on the show during Season 21, also confirmed to AV Club that all of the contestants receive “some kind of money for the order that you come in.” So, the first team eliminated would make the least amount, and so on.

For some contestants, who have to take time off work to be on the show, the payout isn’t always worth it. “It cost me quite a bit of money to go on the show, just because I wasn’t working,” Abbattista explained. “I’m self-employed, so if I’m not bringing money in, it’s not coming in. And, again, I’m not complaining about that. I knew that was the cost for me wanting to do the show, and fortunately I was able to do that. Still, it becomes a financial burden for some people.”

Do contestants pay for travel on The Amazing Race?

Contestants are not allowed to use their own money on the race. At the beginning of every leg, their envelopes contain a certain amount of money that they can use to get them through that leg. The amount varies depending on the country.

“We have figured out how much the taxi might cost, or a bus or train ticket,” Doganieri explained. “So we give them just enough money for that leg, and they have to be very careful not to overspend.”

If they run out of money, contestants can barter for money, but they are not allowed to beg, according to Doganieri.

Are The Amazing Race prizes all free?

The winners of every leg also receive a prize, which is usually a sponsored trip. The show partners with Expedia (formerly it was Travelocity), and the one-stop travel destination generally gives a trip away on each leg.

But, it’s not without some strings, according to Abbattista.” The trips are sponsored through whatever hotel puts up the trip and Travelocity is also a sponsor, so you have a liaison you go through,” he explained. “When the season is over, you do a bunch of legal paperwork then they turn you over to Travelocity. The woman I dealt with there was really helpful and nice and I wound up going on the trips and, yes, you pay taxes because it’s considered income as a prize. So if the trip is worth $10,000, guess what? You owe Uncle Sam $3,500. And they’re not all-inclusive. Your air is paid for and your hotel and they include some other things, like massages or a snorkel trip, but all the food is not included. So you’re spending money and going to places that you’re not necessarily interested in.”
