‘Two and a Half Men’s Jon Cryer Made “A Third” Of Charlie Sheen’s Pay

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

A decade after Two and a Half Men concluded, Jon Cryer has some choice words about his onscreen brother Charlie Sheen.

The 2x Emmy winner recently compared his former co-star to a dictator, recalling that he was paid “a third” of what Sheen made for their CBS sitcom, which ran for 12 seasons from 2003 to 2015.

“He’s in the midst of falling apart in every way that I can imagine, and he’s renegotiating his contract for another year of a show that I’m supposed to be on too,” he explained in the Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen.

“The dictator of North Korea was a guy named Kim Jong-Il. He acted crazy all the time and thus got enormous amounts of aid from countries who were so scared of him that they would shovel money at him,” added Cryer. “Well, that’s what happened here. [Sheen’s] negotiations went off the charts because his life was falling apart. Me, whose life was pretty good at that time, I got a third of that.”

Cryer noted that CBS “pre-sold a couple extra seasons of the show,” which motivated them to “spend this astonishing amount of money on Charlie.”

Warner Bros. 2023

In Two and a Half Men, hedonistic jingle writer Charlie Harper’s (Sheen) life is thrown for a loop when his recently divorced brother Alan (Cryer) moves into the bachelor’s beachfront house with his son Jake (Angus T. Jones). Following Charlie’s death on the show, billionaire Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher) bought the house and filled out the trio.

Amid his addiction battle, Sheen was fired from the show in 2011 after taking public swipes at CBS, Warner Bros. and series co-creator Chuck Lorre. Season 8 was cut short amid the ordeal, and Kutcher replaced Sheen for the remainder of the series.

Nina Dobrev Talks Fight for Equal Pay to Vampire Diaries Male Co-Stars

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Despite being the only actor playing multiple characters during the early seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev has revealed that she was paid less than her fellow male co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.

The actress opened up about the behind-the-scenes equal pay battle in Entertainment Weekly editor Samantha Highfill’s new book, I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diaries. Dobrev not only played Elena Gilbert in the hit CW series, but also her character’s evil doppelgänger, Katherine Pierce, starting in the season one finale.

“Candice [King], Kat [Graham], and I were the three lowest-paid series regulars in the first two seasons,” Dobrev said. “It was a bit of a tricky situation because my contract only said to play Elena, but I was playing multiple characters, which doubled my workload. I had to be on set for double the amount of time, I had to memorize double the amount of lines.”

In the book, Highfill wrote that actors are typically able to start negotiating their contracts in season three, which means Dobrev was making less than Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) and Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) for the first few seasons.

“I wanted to play Katherine, but I wanted to be compensated fairly for that, and I wanted to be an equal to the boys,” Dobrev added. The actress eventually got more money, Highfill wrote, but she never received equal pay to her male co-leads.

She recalled being told that “out of principle” the studio “wouldn’t bump me up to being equal to the boys, and so that was probably the most hurtful because it felt like I was really working hard and we shot eighteen-hour days sometimes, and nights, and I was putting my absolute heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears into it.”

“I remember feeling like the studio didn’t appreciate what I was bringing to the show, and it felt like they were saying that all the hard work I was putting into it didn’t matter to them and that I wasn’t an equal to my male counterparts, and so that was upsetting to me,” Dobrev continued.

Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec also shared in the book that things “got really heated” with the studio when they told the show’s writers they couldn’t use Katherine anymore because it meant the studio would have to pay Dobrev more each time.

However, Plec said that “was not something that I felt was right or fair,” leading them to “beg the network to let us even write story for Katherine.”

Plec said that the writers were eventually allowed to write for Katherine but recalled, “I literally think we had to say, ‘We’ll kill Katherine,’ in order to get permission to use her.”

“Over time, between Nina being generous and gracious and the tension simmering down a little bit, we were granted a certain number of episodes,” the co-creator said. “[But] I literally think we had to say, ‘We’ll kill Katherine,’ in order to get permission to use her.”

Dobrev exited the show after season six, when her character Elena was put under a sleeping spell by villain Kai Parker (Chris Wood), which linked Elena’s life to that of her best friend Bonnie Bennett. But since Elena wasn’t killed off, this left the door open for her to return (which she did in the series finale, titled “I Was Feeling Epic.”)

However, her return for the eighth and final season sparked another battle over pay, as revealed in Highfill’s book. Plec and co-creator Kevin Williamson said they initially intended to have Dobrev return for the entire final season.

“I really wanted Elena and Stefan to end up together,” Williamson admitted, “that would’ve been my preference, but we didn’t have Elena to bring that relationship back around. You couldn’t bring them back together in one episode.”

But Dobrev stood her ground and was only going to return if she was paid the same as Wesley and Somerhalder, who had gotten multiple raises since her departure from the series.

“I was always open to coming back for the finale, and storyline-wise it made sense. I felt like it was important and it needed to happen for the show, it needed to happen for the fans,” the actress explained. “It was just really important to me that at the end of the show, as a woman, I wanted to make sure that I was compensated and that I was an equal to my male counterparts on the show, and so it came down to that.”

Dobrev shared that the studio’s offer for her to return for the show’s finale “was five times less” than what she made when she left at the end of season six.

“That’s the only reason why at one point I almost didn’t come back,” she added. “I needed to be paid parity to the boys. I had to put my foot down and say if it didn’t happen I wouldn’t be able to come back,” she said. “And it wasn’t about the money — I didn’t give a shit about the money at all — it was the principle.”

Plec defended Dobrev, saying in the book, “She should’ve been making what those boys made all along, and nobody should’ve blinked at that request, but at the time it was very shocking. To her credit, she advocated for herself and she stuck to her guns.”

When Dobrev declined the studio’s less-than-equal offer, she said that’s when Plec stepped in and “put her foot down and spoke to everyone.” Though the studio eventually only agreed to pay for one episode at the actress’s requested rate.

“The reason we couldn’t have her for more than the one episode is because they just wouldn’t pay,” the co-creator shared. “It took a lot of work before they finally relented, but it came back that it was one episode only that they’d say yes for.”

Dobrev added, “For the fans I felt horrible and I wanted the story to be told in the best way possible, and it was heartbreaking that the artistry had to suffer because elf this, that we didn’t get to maybe have the few episodes at the end of the show that Julie wanted. … I’m very happy that we were able to make it work and that I came back, because I wanted to be part of the goodbye.”

Nina Dobrev reveals bitter fight for equal pay on The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev has revealed her struggle for equal pay on The Vampire Diaries.

Nina Dobrev had a real struggle for equal pay on The Vampire Diaries

The 36-year-old actress – who starred alongside Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in the first six seasons of the supernatural teen drama – has recalled the arguments she faced as she was being paid less than her male castmates, despite playing but Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on the show.

In Samantha Highfill’s new book I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diarie, Nina said: “Candice [King], Kat [Graham], and I were the three lowest-paid series regulars in the first two seasons.

“It was a bit of a tricky situation because my contract only said to play Elena, but I was playing multiple characters, which doubled my workload.”

She alleged despite having a more demanding schedule thanks to playing doppelgänger versions of Elena, she wasn’t compensation fairly in comparison to her co-stars.

She added: “I had to be on set for double the amount of time, I had to memorise double the amount of lines.

“I wanted to play Katherine, but I wanted to be compensated fairly for that, and I wanted to be an equal to the boys.”

After pleading her case, she has alleged the studio actually asked wrtiers to stop writing for Katherine to avoid having to pay more.

She recalled: “I remember feeling like the studio didn’t appreciate what I was bringing to the show, and it felt like they were saying that all the hard work I was putting into it didn’t matter to them and that I wasn’t an equal to my male counterparts, and so that was upsetting to me.”

She later returned for the eighth and final season, but the offer was “five times less” than what she was paid in season six.

She said: “I needed to be paid parity to the boys. I had to put my foot down and say if it didn’t happen I wouldn’t be able to come back.

“And it wasn’t about the money — I didn’t give a s*** about the money at all — it was the principle.”

Nina argued she was concerned less by the “actual dollar amount”, and more by getting equal pay, and when that happened, she “politely declined the offer”.

Co-creator and showrunner Julie Plec backed her, with the studio agreeing to bring her back at her asking rate, but for just one episode instead of the entire run.

While she “wanted to be part of the goodbye”, Nina added: “It was heartbreaking that the artistry had to suffer because of this.”

Asleep at the Wheel Pay Tribute to Texas, Play With Billy Strings

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

When Asleep at the Wheel decided to record a record of Texas-centric songs to commemorate the Western swing outfit spending 50 of its 55 years in the Lone Star State, Ray Benson had a simple request: “Let’s just do songs about Texas that mean something to you.”

The result is Riding High in Texas, a celebration of all things Texas, out now. The record features covers of high-profile artists and songwriters and an array of special guests across its 10 tracks, including Lyle Lovett, Brennen Leigh, and Billy Strings.

Lovett joins Asleep at the Wheel to reprise his version of “Long Tall Texan,” and Leigh contributes vocals on a cover of the Carter Family’s “Lonesome Pine Special.” Meanwhile, Strings plays guitar on the album-opening title track after Benson called in a favor with the modern-day bluegrass torchbearer.

Benson appeared in Strings’ 2024 spaghetti western video for “Seven Months in County,” playing, in Benson’s words, “the old codger to be Strings’ cellmate.” During that shoot, Benson decided Strings needed to play on “Riding High in Texas.”

“We became friendly,” Benson tells Rolling Stone. “When they booked me to do his film, I just asked him, ‘Hey, could you play on this?’ And I tell you what, that guy is busier than anybody, and he fit it in. Good thing, because I don’t play that kind of flatpicking stuff well enough.”

While the guests add intrigue and twists to the 32nd studio album for Asleep at the Wheel, the constant is the band’s fiddle-forward Western swing sound played over a series of songs that evoke the Lone Star State. Renditions of “All My Exes (Live in Texas)” and “T for Texas” lay that point bare, while covers of Guy Clark (“Texas Cookin”) and Ernest Tubb (“Texas in My Soul”) serve as reminders of Benson’s appreciation for Texas’s songwriting icons.

Asleep at the Wheel are a constantly-evolving project rather than a set-in-stone band, which is evident with the addition of Ian Stewart, who joined the band on fiddle in 2024 but quickly took over some vocal duties for the 74-year-old Benson. Riding High in Texas has Stewart swapping lead vocals with Benson, but the highlight is his fiddle playing on “Beaumont Rag,” the record’s instrumental closing track.

Editor’s picks

“Ian joined the band,” Benson says, “after I hired him as a fiddle player, but when it was obvious that he was gonna share singing, I said, ‘Bring some stuff.’ I hope that everybody who’s in this band will bring something to the table, so that I don’t have to say, ‘Do this.’ This is a collaborative thing.

“In the contest world, where the fiddlers get together, Texas goes back to some guys from the Twenties and Thirties, after Bob Wills. They were not swing fiddlers, but they had a little swing in them, and that’s what ‘Beaumont Rag’ really shows. So, I said, ‘Ian, you’re a Texas fiddler, and you’re gonna have to play that. Let’s put it on this album,’ and he worked it up real good.”

Before Riding High in Texas was released, Asleep at the Wheel already started touring the record, and they have a full schedule ahead of them, including festival stops at Austin City Limits and the Avett Brothers’ Moon Crush: Avett Moon in Miramar Beach, Florida, in October. The group was also inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in August, which Benson attributes to the band embracing the Lone Star State since relocating there in 1974.

He also says that relentless touring and a constant churn of new music help him maintain a focus, even with a catalog and accolades that could justify slowing down or retiring altogether.

Trending Stories

“The legacy of Asleep at the Wheel, I think, is pretty firmly entrenched. But my outlets are still creating music, and bringing people together — always by collaboration,” Benson says. “I don’t see any way out of this mess unless I do something. Otherwise, I’ll feel useless.”

Kriti Sanon Acknowledges The Pay Disparity In Bollywood

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Kriti Sanon recently addressed the ongoing issue of the gender pay gap in Bollywood, emphasising how producers’ willingness to take risks and content-driven successes like Crew and Gangubai Kathiawadi are paving the way for change. On Thursday, she spoke candidly about the persistent disparity in pay within the Indian film industry, noting that despite ongoing discussions, the gap still stings.

Kriti Sanon Opens Up On Pay Gap In Bollywood

While speaking at CNN-News18’s SheShakti Delhi Edition, Kriti stated, “Actually, considering all the other industries, I don’t understand why the pay parity is there. For certain kinds of roles, certain kinds of jobs, whether you are a male or a female, it shouldn’t matter, and the pay should be the same. In the films, yes, we’ve been having this conversation for a very, very long time and trust me, it pinches us more than anyone else.”

She also highlighted the core issue: the vicious cycle linking star remuneration to audience appeal. “The huge gap in the payment for male and female actors. But I think it’s a circle because I feel that the fee of any actor sort of relates to how many audience you can pull into a theatre from your name on Day 1. Unfortunately, there are very few films that are, much fewer films I would say that are led by women than men.”

Kriti Reveals Female-Led Films Don’t Receive The Same Budget As Male-Led Movies

According to Kriti, even female-led films often don’t receive the same budget as those led by men. “Even if it’s a film led by a woman, I feel it’s not scaled at the same budget as a film that is led by a man would be. But that’s also because producers are scared that they are not going to get as much money back. So I think it’s a circle where female-led films don’t end up making as much money as the male-led films, and then it’s like ‘oh, that’s why his fees are more or her fees are less’.”

Kriti Sanon Says There Is A Gradual Change

Despite these challenges, Kriti sees signs of gradual change. “So I feel like it’s changing slowly. I like the fact that film work is no longer dependent on male or female; it depends on content. When a film led by three women, Crew, ended up working and entertaining the audience, it gave me hope. It felt like when it’s a female-led film, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a serious subject. You can also have fun, and you can also entertain people. You can also have these big locations and a substantial budget. I feel things will change only when some people, the producers obviously, have the heart to take the risk. Take risk on the subject, not who’s leading it.”

On her professional front, Kriti will next be seen in Aanand L. Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein opposite Dhanush. There are also reports that she may play a pivotal role in Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3, further establishing her as one of the most versatile actors of her generation.

Priyanka Chopra Recalls Earning Just 10% of Male Co-Stars’ Salary & Finding Pay Parity in Hollywood

When Priyanka Chopra Talked About Pay Disparity In Bollywood, “I’d Earn 10% Of My Male Co-Actor..”

When Priyanka Chopra Opened Up About Pay Disparity, Body-Shaming & Struggles in Bollywood and Hollywood(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Global icon Priyanka Chopra is one of the most loved and successful actresses not only in Bollywood but also in Hollywood. Over the years of her acting career, Priyanka has established her name, and proved her worth as a versatile actor. Let’s revisit the time when Priyanka Chopra opened up on pay disparity in the industry. Read on to know more.

Priyanka Chopra On Pay Disparity In Bollywood

In an interview with BBC 100 Women, Priyanka spoke about pay disparity in showbiz and being body-shamed because of her complexion. PC shared, “I’ve never had pay parity in Bollywood. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor. It (pay parity) is large, substantially large. And so many women still deal with that. I’m sure I will too if I worked with a male co-actor now in Bollywood. My generation of female actors have definitely asked for equal pay. We’ve asked, but we’ve not got it. I thought it was absolutely okay to sit for hours and hours on set, while my male co-actor just took his own time, and decided whenever he wanted to show up on set is when we would shoot.”

Priyanka Chopra Recalled Her Initial Days In Bollywood

Priyanka further reminisced about her earlier days in Bollywood, where she was body-shamed for her skintone. The Heads of State actress said, “I was called ‘black cat’ and ‘dusky’. I mean, what does dusky even mean in a country where we are literally all brown? I thought I was not pretty enough; I thought I had to work a lot harder, even though I thought I was probably a little bit more talented than my fellow actors who were light skinned. But I thought that was right because it was so normalised.”

She continued, “Of course, that comes from our colonial past. It’s not even been 100 years since we shed the British Raj, so we still hold on to it., I think. But it is up to our generation to be able to cut those ties and change it so that the next generation doesn’t inherit the equality placed on light skin,” she added.

Priyanka Chopra Says Hollywood Gave her Pay Parity

Priyanka Chopra was also quizzed about how different Hollywood is, when it comes to pay parity. She said, “Well, the first time it’s happened to me, it has happened in Hollywood. So, I don’t know how to move forward. Because this was my first show with a male actor as a co-lead.” (referring to US spy series Citadel)

Priyanka Chopra’s Initial Struggle In Hollywood

Despite having an illustrious acting career in Bollywood, Priyanka still had a fair share of struggle for a decade to carve a niche for herself in Hollywood. “I would go into meetings by myself, introduce myself, and take my show reel. I worked with acting coaches and dialect coaches. I did auditions, got rejected, cried, then went back for another one. I did the hustle that I needed to do to make it in any new industry. It was a humbling experience. I think maybe I have built a certain amount of credibility, and so I’m doing interesting work. We’ll see if that is accepted or not. It’s really hard to be South Asian and Indian in Hollywood. There’s still a long way to go,” she concluded.
