Paige Bueckers Will Reportedly Star in a Movie About a Women’s Basketball Rivalry

Paige Bueckers’ off-season is heating up—and we’re not just talking about the WNBA superstar’s upcoming debut in Unrivaled, the player-owned three-on-three league based in Miami.

On October 29, Deadline reported that the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year is set to star in Jess & Pearl, a sports movie developed by Apple Original Films. Though Apple did not comment on the report, Deadline’s sources claim the project is “set in the world of women’s basketball” and based off an original idea by Scandal writer and producer Zahir McGhee. Bueckers will reportedly serve as an executive producer as well.

Here’s everything we know about Paige Bueckers’ upcoming Hollywood debut.

The WNBA Needs Every One of These Faces

As the internet argued over the “face of the league,” the women of the WNBA were coming together to fight for fair pay and a say in their future. These five athletes—and 2025 Glamour Women of the Year—represent the real draw of the WNBA: its players.

What is Jess & Pearl?

So far, all we have is this brief description provided by Deadline: “Set in the world of women’s basketball, the film follows two phenoms who forge an extraordinary bond as teammates until fame, competition, and the ruthless business of college athletics threaten to turn their friendship into an epic rivalry.”

When is Jess & Pearl coming out?

So far, no release date has been set or announced.

Who is involved behind-the-scenes?

UConn alum and Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers will reportedly serve as an executive producer, while David Bernad (The White Lotus) has reportedly signed on to produce the project through his company, Middle Child Pictures. Lindsay Kagawa Colas, who recently served as executive producer on a documentary about WNBA legend Sue Bird, is allegedly on board to produce alongside producer Tommy Alter.

Who else is in the cast?

So far, no other names have been released, but I’m personally pulling for Bueckers’ fellow WNBA superstar Angel Reese, who recently made her own feature film debut in A House of Dynamite on Netflix. You know, right before she made her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway debut as the first pro-athlete Victoria’s Secret Angel.

Though she only had a small role in the film, Reese told People she plans to continue acting and even hire an acting coach. “I was talking to Common—he’s overseas right now shooting season 2 of Silo—and he was telling me, ‘You got to hire an acting coach,” she said at A House of Dynamite’s New York Film Festival premiere on September 28. “I model already, so it’s like adding to the résumé. I’m young right now, so I’m going to do it while I’m young.”

Paige Lorenze Always Bets on Herself

Was it scary? What was one particular challenge you still think about?

Starting something from nothing always carries risk, but I’ve never been afraid to gamble on my ideas. I bet on myself early on, even when there wasn’t a clear roadmap. A challenge sometimes is the possibility of being misunderstood on the internet in general. Instead of letting that stop me, I used it as fuel to double down on authenticity and clarity, knowing the right audience would connect and it has.

I think there are so many scary parts of opening yourself up and starting a brand. As long as you are a kind leader, work hard—your character will ultimately shine through.

Do you think consumers care about who actually owns the businesses they spend on? If not, should they?

I think people should. Especially today. People want to buy from people. Ownership shapes vision, quality, and values. Supporting founders who are hands on and deeply invested often means you’re supporting something more real and lasting, I think.

What’s one key piece of advice you’d give to other women looking to start their own business?

Don’t wait to feel ready. Go! Start small, but start. And keep going, even when you’re doubted. If you have a passion for it, you have a calling and an obligation to yourself to see it through.

What time do you get up?

I usually get up around 8:30 am. I like mornings to feel unhurried, even if my day isn’t.

What’s your typical morning routine?

Always a cappuccino, then I try to spend at least 15 minutes in my backyard or garden, and then I drive to the office.

What was your first childhood dream job?

A professional ski racer.

Your first actual job?

I’ve been working for as long as I can remember. I used to run a lemonade stand all summer at 7 and started babysitting at a young age. I was always obsessed with having my own money and the independence that came with it.

My first real job was as a waitress, then I worked retail at a clothing store, and later at Insomnia Cookies in college. There was never a point in my life where I wasn’t working, and each job taught me something different about people, service, and building a strong work ethic.

How do you typically deal with rejection in your field?

Rejection in my field is constant. Nos are good! They tell me I have work to do and I love the challenge. If it’s not a yes, it’s either a learning experience or it’s clearing space for something better.

How do you typically procrastinate?

I have ADHD…so this is common. I am either laser focused or getting distracted. I procrastinate by getting lost in little creative side projects, Pinterest, gardening or calling my fiancé.

What’s one decision you made that everyone told you not to—but you’re glad you did?

Launching Dairy Boy without a traditional business plan or a business model. It was pure intuition at the start, my marketing brain and creativity, an authentic story, and I’m so glad I trusted it.

Dear Media President Paige Port on Her Daily Routine and What It Really Takes to Create a Hit Podcast

Listen up! Dear Media president Paige Port and DITL (a.k.a. Day in the Life) host is spilling all the secrets to building a top-charting podcast.

While the entertainment expert, who has interviewed Jordin Sparks, Harry Hamlin, and Hannah Brown, is usually uncovering celebrities’ daily routines, ET flipped the script to see how Port manages her own busy schedule.

Let’s Not Talk About the Husband

“During the week, I’m up around 6 a.m. and I start the day with a workout. I usually do a mix of F45, obé, and Form before shifting into mom mode,” she shares. “My husband gets our two kids up and out of bed, and by the time I get home, it’s time to get them ready for school.”

From there, the entrepreneur heads to the network’s office in West Hollywood, California, where she helps A-listers like Khloé Kardashian, Scheana Shay, and Kristin Cavallari turn their ideas into hit shows.

“My day is typically spent in meetings with our talent and team,” Port notes.

As for why many stars are flocking to this format: “A podcast gives them the time and space to share their stories in their own words. It creates a direct, intimate connection with their audience that feels both unfiltered and intentional.”

Whether Port is the behind the mic, or behind-the-scenes, she believes authenticity is essential for making engaging content.

“People want depth and connection in a way that fits into their daily lives. … It’s all about creating a space that feels warm, inviting, and curious,” she shares.

Dear Media

“If you’re truly interested, that energy translates and makes the conversation more engaging. … When guests feel listened to and not rushed, they open up and share the most candid moments.”

As for other tips to flourish in the space, Port says consistency is key.

“The shows that succeed are the ones that show up week after week and build trust with their audience over time. Also, good audio and video quality always helps.”
