Diana Ross Makes Ovation Hall Her “House” During AC Performance

Diana Ross remains the ultimate diva, entrancing her beloved audience during her most recent Beautiful Love Tour stop in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Taking over Ocean Casino Resort’s Ovation Hall Saturday (Oct. 25), the “Queen Of Motown” brought Hollywood glamour, New York elegance, and Detroit charm to a sold-out crowd of adoring patrons, many of whom were heard covering the icons classic tunes as they bopped into the venue with spirited anticipation.

Clips of the legend’s rise to stardom and highlights of her illustrious career greeted the crowd as her band, back-up, and crew hit the stage, just ahead of Ross making her grand entrance to — you guessed it — “I’m Coming Out.” And did she ever, in an opulent orange gown and coat that screamed both fall and fierce!

Stage presence was on ten as she broke in and out of song on occasion to acknowledge fans, all while keeping the show moving at a smooth pace. With hits spanning over five decades, it would only make sense that many were cut short, but she still manages to touch on all the known classics while giving her more die-hard followers treats from projects like Lady Sings The Blues and The Wiz.

She’s also a beacon of gratitude, a refreshing trait in someone so accomplished. Sharing her own mantra with the crowd, highlighting her band several times throughout the night, bringing out daughter Rhonda for a sweet duet, these are the moments when you realize why she’s been in the business for so long. It’s not just the obvious talent and beauty, but an understanding of how community, collective care and humility will keep one sane enough to withstand the storms, even while living in your gift and dismissing the nonsense. It radiated through her smile the entire evening, mirroring the brilliance of the fab fashions she quick-changed into and out of throughout the night.

The evening was thee highlight of a weekend spent on the luxe boardwalk resort venue, that boasts acts ranging from Ross and Smokey Robinson to John Legend and Lenny Kravitz. Catch Ross in a city near you here and check out what Ovation Hall has to offer at Ocean Casino Resort.

Watch: Luke Barnett’s Short Film ‘Ovation’ Makes Fun of Film Festivals

Ahahaha someone finally found a fun way to make fun of standing ovation clocks at film festivals. One of the dumbest film journalism trends of this day & age is the way someone will literally count the minutes during a standing ovation at the end of a film’s world premiere at major film festivals including Cannes & Venice. I even wrote an article once how entirely pointless & stupid this trend is, and how standing ovations actually mean nothing, and they usually happen because audiences are obsessed with celebrities (it’s objectively not a measure of the quality of the film or anything besides who is in the audience / why aren’t they leaving). This funny short called Ovation is a riff on this trend, featuring actor Luke Barnett during his Cannes Film Festival premiere of the film The Last Saint of Inishberry (entirely made up). It’s also a satirical answer to the question: what do these actors do during a 20 min standing ovation? Well, watch and find out.

Ovation Short Film

Thanks to Luke on Twitter for the tip on this debuting online. Brief intro via YouTube: “An actor’s journey through a never-ending standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.” Ovation is a short directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Noam Kroll – he runs a filmmaking community website and provides advice – he also has a “commercial production house called ‘Creative Rebellion'”, and runs a filmmaking blog to inspire others. Follow him on Twitter @noamkroll or on IG @noamkroll or visit his YouTube page or Vimeo page. Written and performed by Luke Barnett (also of the acclaimed short The Crossing Over Express). With cinematography by Andy Chinn. Produced by Luke Barnett & Noam Kroll. For more info on this film, visit YouTube or read the article on Variety. Stephen Colbert Gets Standing Ovation at 2025 Emmys

by jummy84 September 15, 2025

Stephen Colbert received a rousing standing ovation while presenting at the 2025 Emmys on Sunday night. With his Late Show set to end next May, the host seized the moment to jokingly pitch his staff to potential future employers.

“While I have your attention: is anyone hiring because I have 200 very qualified candidates who will be available in June,” he said. “I also brought my resume but I haven’t had the chance to update my headshot.”

Later in the evening, Colbert received the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show.

CBS announced the cancelation of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in July, calling it “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night” and unrelated to Paramount’s upcoming merger with Skydance. Still, some critics have speculated that Colbert — one of Donald Trump’s most outspoken adversaries —may have been offered as a sacrificial lamb to placate the Trump administration to help get the merger over the finish line.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently experienced an emotional moment at Venice Film Festival, when his movie The Smashing Machine received a 15-minute standing ovation. The actor, who portrays UFC legend Mark Kerr in the movie, suddenly became overwhelmed with emotions and broke down in front of the crowd. The clips and glimpses from the theatre show Dwayne wiping away his tears and the crowd offers thunderous applause.

The actor attended the screening with his co-star Emily Blunt, director Benny Safdie and Mark Kerr himself. Many have compared the moment with the standing ovation Brendan Fraser received for The Whale, four years ago. Fraser later went on to win an Academy Award for the movie.

In one of his social media posts from Venice, Johnson acknowledged the greatness of the film festival. He noted, “Act like you’ve been there. Trying to stay cool and absorb every second of every moment. #venice.”

The movie is slated to release in the theatres on October 3, 2025. The reactions in Venice confirm that Dwayne Johnson is on his way to give a career-defining performance. Fans on social media have been discussing about his dedication to the project. Interestingly, Johnson also went through a dramatic physical transformation to channel Kerr. He stepped away from his usual action avatar and embraced a leaner frame.

At a press conference, he opened up about working on The Smashing Machine. Dwayne noted that he wanted to explore more of acting after receiving the opportunity to star in the movie. “I looked around a few years ago and I started to think, you know, am I living my dream or am I living other people’s dreams? I’ve been scared to go deep and intense and raw until now, until I had this opportunity,” he added.

Paolo Sorrentino's 'La Grazia' Lands Standing Ovation at Venice Opening Night

Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘La Grazia’ Lands Standing Ovation at Venice Opening Night

by jummy84 August 27, 2025

The Italians love Paolo Sorrentino.

His latest drama “La Grazia,” which kicked off the 82nd Venice Film Festival, was met with a four-minute standing ovation on Wednesday night on the Lido.

The story of an aging politician dealing with his own mortality — and deciding two challenging clemency cases in his final days in office — brought the Venice crowd to their feet as Sorrentino clutched his chest and waved to his fans inside the Sala Grande Theatre. The audience was made largely of Italian officials and members of the industry with some star power in the form of Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett.

“La Grazia” re-teams the Oscar-winning Sorrentino with his male muse and “The Great Beauty” star, Toni Servillo, who has appeared in seven of the director’s last 10 feature films to date. Servillo plays a fictional Italian president named Mariano De Santis, who is torn by doubts about whether he should sign a draft law that would allow euthanasia in the Catholic country.

Ahead of the premiere, Sorrentino – who made his debut at Venice in 2001 with Servillo-starrer “One Man Up” – told Variety about his decision to portray a positive example of a politician in the film.

“Every day in the news we read about decisions made by politicians that stem from impetuosity, show of force and strange twisted ideas about how the economy works,” he said. “Instead of this, I wanted to depict what a politician should be like.”

During the opening night ceremony, Francis Ford Coppola presented Werner Herzog with a Golden Lion for lifetime achievement. Coppola called the German cinema giant, known for films such as “Signs of Life,” “Nosferatu the Vampyre,” “Aguirre, the Wrath of God” and “Fitzcarraldo,” an “unlimited phenomenon working in every nook and corner in cinema.” The event marked Coppola’s first public appearance since undergoing a heart procedure in Rome earlier this month.

Over the next 10 days, boatloads of A-list talent will disembark for what is set to be the most high-wattage celebration of cinema on the Lido in recent memory. Among the premieres on schedule are Luca Guadagnino’s thriller “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri; “Jay Kelly,” a comedic drama from director Noah Baumbach and stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler; Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” with Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac; as well as the latest Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone collaboration, “Bugonia.”

“If all these movies are here, it’s because they were rejected by Cannes” joked the opening night ceremony’s host, actor and comedian Emanuela Fanelli, of the other most prominent European film festival.

Earlier in the day, the ongoing war in Gaza dominated the festival’s jury press conference where jury president Alexander Payne dodged a question about the conflict and how the festival should address it.

“I feel a little bit unprepared for that question,” Payne said. “I’m here to judge and talk about cinema.”

In his brief speech during the ceremony, Payne said he encouraged his fellow jurors “to consider that we know something about cinema, but also nothing at all. To look at each movie simultaneously with the eyes of a professional, but also with the eyes of a child who is perhaps seeing a movie for the very first time.”
