After the success of Thinkalazhcha Nischayam and 1744 White Alto, filmmaker Senna Hegde is back with Avihitham, a layered social drama that continues his exploration of life in small-town Kerala. A Quiet Town, a Scandal, and the Stories Beneath
Set in a sleepy town, Avihitham revolves around a scandal that disrupts the community’s calm. What begins as gossip soon reveals deep-seated hypocrisy, moral policing, and gender bias. Through this seemingly simple setup, Hegde examines how collective judgment can shape, and often distort, people’s lives.
The film features a relatively new cast including Unni Raj, Renji Kankol, Dhanesh Koliyat, Vineeth Chakyar, Rakesh Ushar, Vrinda Menon, and Ammini Chandralayam. Written by Senna Hegde and Ambareesh Kalathera, Avihitham is based on a story by Kalathera. The screenplay balances humour, tension, and social critique without ever losing its human touch. With strong word of mouth from its theatrical run, Avihitham is now set for its digital premiere on JioHotstar on November 14, giving streaming audiences a chance to discover one of Malayalam cinema’s most distinctive voices.

Even as Avihitham readies for its digital release, Hegde has already announced his next project titled Bloody. Revealing the film in October, the director shared, “We’ve celebrated the simple, the sincere, the everyday Kanhangad heart. Now it’s time to stain it a little. This is our descent into desire, deceit, and decay.”
The upcoming film, slated for 2026, will reunite the Avihitham production team and promises a darker, more intense narrative set once again in the filmmaker’s hometown backdrop.
