But now the Death of a Unicorn star is pulling focus in all the best ways, opting for a barely there bejeweled Givenchy by Sarah Burton number when presenting at the 2025 Emmys.

“I definitely feel like I have a bit more Gothic taste than I did when I was a teenager,” the Stuck in the Middle alum mused to Harper’s Bazaar in May. “I’ve always been into dark things or been fascinated by them, but I was a Disney kid, and the whole thing is being bubbly and kind and overly sweet.”

These days, however, her raison d’être is exploring roles that are “older and bolder and different,” she told the mag, noting that when it comes to her parts, “I want to be able to line up all of my girls and see something different in all of them.”

On August 28, the 22-year-old actor star stepped out for yet another Wednesday red carpet event, this time opting for an elevated take on a ripped t-shirt with ultra-chunky Mary-Jane platform boots. As if the DIY-inspired cuts on her cotton jersey GapStudio gown did not evoke enough teenage angst, she finished everything off with purposefully greasy hair to go with her grunge-inspired makeup and bleached brows.

And yet, amidst all the bold choices by her styling team, it was an off-carpet addition to her look that really caught my eye. Just before Netflix and Spotify’s Graveyard Gala, Ortega was photographed leaving the Bowery hotel carrying a large patent faux-leather shoulder bag by the South Korean brand STAND OIL.

The really cool thing about this bag, which features a silver buckle on its single shoulder strap, is that it’s actually reversible. Jenna Ortega and her stylist Enrique Melendez clearly have a keen eye for affordable carry-alls, from under-$100 options to mid-range luxury finds. Earlier this summer, Glamour noted Ortega had become quite fond of Hammitt, a Los Angeles-based designer bag brand known for crafting small batches of high-quality, moderately-priced leather accessories.

On May 3, she was seen toting around the brand’s slouchy black hobo bag with gunmetal hardware before switching to one of their smaller shoulder bags for a concert later that night. “I think I stole this from my stylist, Enrique, during a fitting,” she later told Vogue of her $575 Tom Bag, adding, “I like it because it’s got this red interior and I like the black and red combo.”

All in on the chocolate suede bag trend? No problem. Ortega was recently seen carrying a mid-sized version of the Tom bag that fits the bill for $495. While that’s certainly not cheap, it’s more on par with Coach and Staud than The Row or Miu Miu.
