The media is a hard place to be. You live under a constant pressure of breaking the news. We did it first, we often claim! But there are times when we need to sit down and question our conscience. How far have we come, and how insensitive we are! For the past few days, I have seen the mockery of the life of one of the most celebrated superstars of this country – Dharmendra!

A senior, reputed anchor, offering condolences to his family, a senior artist from the music fraternity singing songs to offer tribute, some reputed members of the fraternity putting up Rest In Peace messages, and all of this while the man we love was struggling and fighting hard, putting up the toughest fight he could, to breathe, to live!

Honestly, I was numb! I was speechless at this eagerness to talk about someone in the past tense, not bothering to know if he struggles. But here’s what surprised me the most – We as human beings were waiting for the news of someone’s death! Like really? How dead should our morals be to wait for the confirmation of someone’s passing away! What was needed was prayers for Dharmendra Sir’s recovery! All he needs is his fans praying for his well-being!

Superstars shower immense love on their fans. They never shy away from crediting their stardom to their fans. But here we are, the so-called fans who waited for a death confirmation, rather than celebrating his will to fight and survive! Honestly, all this added trauma to his family in such a distressing time could have been eased with an apology!

But we turned this into a further circus outside his home and pushed it to a point where Sunny Deol lost his cool at the media! I wonder how they must feel when they see their stressed video from the hospital room, which is being shamelessly circulated, without anyone’s consent, because, yes, a superstar’s life is for public display! Why bother!

While I was numb at all that happened in the past few days, one of my friends pointed out, if someone would have told me that my parents are no more while they are alive, I don’t know, what would I have done to that person, and that hit me so hard! Imagine, the distress we have been causing to someone’s family who is just praying for their father, grandfather, husband, brother, to get well soon, just fight and just live!

Dear Dharmendra Sir,

I know, no apology or sorry can undo what we have done to you and your family in the last few days! But, Sir, you keep fighting to recover and live a healthy life till you can! You fight, Sir, and get well soon, and slap us hard with that fighting spirit so that we can feel ashamed not as professionals but as human beings.

We are a bunch of gossip mongers feeding on stardom and as fans we are a spineless bunch! Once you recover, we will be the same hypocrites who would cheer loudly and praise your fighting spirit. But you fight hard to make us feel ashamed for the basic decency we’ve lost as human beings! We have become so inert, so morally bankrupt, that we wait not for someone’s revival, but for their death. Make us feel ashamed for turning into an obtuse race that now waits for the news of someone’s passing away, rather than waiting for the news of their recovery!

Sorry will never be enough!

Twinkle Khanna and Kajol almost broke the internet when they hosted Salman Khan and Aamir Khan on the premiere of their chat show Two Much with Kajol & Twinkle. However, the latest epin infidelity, with Twinkle Khanna dismissing it as Raat Gayi Baat Gayi (just like Ranbir & Deepika decided What happens in Corsica, stays in Corsica!) However, in my opinion, this wasn’t just a difference of opinion, it was such a disappointing and careless display of one’s moral and emotional standards.

While Janhvi Kapoor, the youngest and arguably the most grounded person in the room, held her stance that ‘the deal is already broken‘ once you physically cheat in a relationship, Twinkle dismissed her thoughts by questioning her age and suggesting she would eventually have an opinion once shsode of the show featured Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor, and it has blown a discussion out of proportion – a casual, cool, almost breezy justification of physical infidelity in long-term marriages.

During the episode, Twinkle Khanna, Kajol, and Karan Johar unanimously declared that emotional cheating is far worse than gaining wisdom! Now, this is the most bizarre statement I have come across during this weird conversation!

While I might agree to disagree that this topic might have too many subjective opinions, and it is eventually one’s personal choice when it comes to infidelity, age has nothing to do with this. I mean, if a woman is okay with physical infidelity in her 50s, she might be okay with Polygamy in her 70s and tell me that I would agree to Polygamy when I turn 70! Sounds bizarre? So did Twinkle Khanna’s age card!

Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi Is Such A Red Flag Term!

While this was a very casual conversation where Karan Johar said, ‘Thand lag jaati hai’ and even Kajol agreed that emotional cheating is worse, I echo with what Janhvi argued – we cannot compare which is worse, and both are wrong! Setting up a notion that a physical hook-up is merely a mistake, a one-night stand to be precise, is such a dangerous narrative. It is the breach of trust that is the foundation of any relationship! And Raat Gayi Baat Gayi is such a casual way to greenlight the audacity of men who are ready to change ‘flavors’ at their convenience!

The Green Light for the ‘Mard Samaaj’

Also, if Twinkle Khanna needs to dissect this further, it clearly means loyalty is negotiable, and no, Ma’am, loyalty is never negotiable! Cheating is not negotiable! Taking your partner for granted is not negotiable! Coming from a woman, this normalizes the disrespect that women receive already in a patriarchal society from their male chauvinist partners!

The true definition of a successful, mature relationship is not how much betrayal you learn to swallow, but how strongly you maintain the boundaries that protect your dignity. If physical betrayal is no longer a deal-breaker, how low does the bar go before we realize we are not maintaining a marriage, but merely cohabiting in a societal arrangement?

So, no, Mrs Funnybones, let us not normalize infidelity, and let us keep cheating a non-negotiable parameter in a relationship. Please cool baniye, cold nahi!

Keri Russell finds it “weird” that “everyone has an opinion about the way you look”.

Keri Russell: ‘Everyone has an opinion about the way you look’

The 49-year-old actress – whose breakout role was in Felicity in 1998 – finds it frustrating that people are so focused on appearance but admitted she can’t help thinking and talking about it herself too.

She told PEOPLE: “It’s such a weird thing being a woman. Everyone has an opinion about the way you look, the way you dress, the way your hair is.”

“It’s just the nature of our society.

“It’s something my girlfriends and I talk about all the time. Plastic surgery is having such a moment right now – men, women, 20-year-olds. I mean, it is around. We’re inundated with these movie stars. Even though they might be 50 or 60 years old, they look amazing.”

Keri is currently starring as U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler in The Diplomat and loves that her character isn’t obsessed with her appearance.

She said: “I find it really enjoyable, I mean, it’s like a fun thing to play. I like how cranky she is about it, and how she’s always trying to fight people about it, and is rude about it. I love it. I find it delightful.

“I watch this show and I’m like, I do not look like that, you know. I like the way I look on the show, and it’s amazing that I feel like that’s strange, like that’s a unique thing to look like that, but it is.”

So recently, I got a chance to watch Metro In Dino on Netflix – one of the most talked films of the recent times. It worked in the theaters and I heart a lot of good things about the film. More so, I was in love with the music album as well, so I decided to dive in Anurag Basu‘s take on modern-day relationships and it has left me as confused as his characters were!

No, do not get me wrong, I am a die-hard Bollywood fan and an equally hopeless romantic when it comes to Hindi films. But over the years, the portrayal of romance on screen has changed for the worst to be honest! Now, not getting into the film’s mirror society or society gets impacted from films debate, I am surprised at the casual approach in relationships, to be honest!

For those who do not know, Metro In Dino is a relationship drama highlighting four couples, and all of them are on the verge of cheating on each other. Do they cheat or do they not is the only curiosity that keeps everyone on toes. And this is where my issue with this film started and never ended!

So, how do we define cheating here? Is it only the physical aspect of a relationship, or do we take emotional cheating into account at any point? These four couples decide to break boundaries of a relationship, and of course, I am no one to decide any boundary for any relationship, and it is totally between two people to set those boundaries, but I definitely need to address this casual conversation around cheating.

The film is so entertaining that I am sure no one has a problem with this casual approach and conversation regarding cheating, something that is totally non-negotiable in a relationship. In fact, in the recent past, many movies have taken this casual approach to cheating in a relationship, and I am just confused. Am I too old school, or has the world progressed too rapidly?

The last I checked, cheating or being disloyal in a relationship was the deal breaker! But Metro In Dino presents it as a thought that needs a discussion. It definitely talks about second chances, but it never bothers to strike a conversation about the discussion that leads to the second chances! Of course, I agree about taking second chances, but only if we failed for the first time by mistake! But cheating is definitely a choice in a relationship.

In one of the songs, Metro In Dino discusses romance and says, “Koi kaise kare farak, ye ishq hai ya tharak?” Well, I think most of us know the answer! But the film definitely confuses my old soul. I think, the 90’s ‘kid’ in me needs to grow up!

There have been times when Bollywood has struggled at the box office with only chest-thumping heroes ruling the silver screen. At such times, die-hard Bollywood fans yearned for classic true-blue romantic films, and at such times, Karan Johar has always arrived with romance pulling the right strings at the right moment! Dharma Productions is all set to repeat the romance magic with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

It was in 1998 that Karan Johar changed the entire romantic setup for Hindi films with Rahul, Tina, and Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai! Love triangles changed the entire scenario, and love as a whole, the sole emotion of a film, took the front seat! So much so, that the film, despite going head to head against Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, turned a massive winner!

The Romance Magician – Karan Johar!

In the 2000s, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho did the same magic, and true-blue die-hard romantic fans breathed a sigh of relief with their romantic cravings being addressed so beautifully. In 2023, when Hindi Cinema was struggling at the box office, Karan Johar yet again decided to bail it out with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani! Dharma Productions is again to the rescue of die-hard romantic fans with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari!

Varun Dhawan & Janhvi Kapoor Bring Laughter In Love!

The teaser of the film ensures that it is the light-hearted take on romance we desperately need amidst the mundane routines! Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor bring the laughter along with the love, promising a love story that might not bring Pyaar Ke Kasme Vaade, but it might surely help you deal with the sukh-dukh of your ishq wali life!

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari – The Ek Chutki Ishq We Need!

In the last few months, Cinema has dealt with a very aggressive side of human behavior and my romantic soul desperately needs a breath of fresh air! While romance is already the ruling emotion since the last month with some great Bollywood music ruling my playlist as well, I am really thankful to Karan Johar and Dharma Productions for bringing this Ek Chutki Ishq once in a while.

They did is last month with Dhadak 2, and before that, they made my soul smile with a beautiful film called Aap Jaisa Koi with a music album to die for! They are gearing up to strike the right chords yet again with Sunny Sankari Ki Tulsi Kumari and, I am just happy that love stories still exist in Dharma Productions’ world!
