‘Just did my job’: Actor playing narcotics cop on Aryan Khan’s The Bads of Bollywood opens up on Sameer Wankhede row

Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, has been in the news ever since its release on Netflix earlier this month. The satire on the Hindi film industry has been praised by fans for its irreverent tone and ability to take potshots at everyone. However, not everyone seems to be loving it. Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede sued the show, Aryan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Netflix for defamation, claiming that the character of a narcotics officer on the show parodies him and defames him.

Sameer Wankhede has said that a character (left) played by Ashish Kumar in Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood defames him.

Even as the Delhi High Court heard Wankhede’s petition last week and found it not maintainable, the actor who plays the narcotics cop on the show, has opened up on his portrayal, and reacted to the charge that the character is based on Sameer Wankhede.

Actor Ashish Kumar breaks silence

Actor Ashish Kumar plays the officer on the show, described in the credits simply as ‘plain-clothed cop’. The actor shared a picture of himself thanking fans on a newly-created Instagram account, and expressed surprise at how well the character has been received. The post received lots of comments of appreciation from fans of the show. “Small role , big impact,” commented one viewer. Another added, “Aap to main MVP ho pure show ke (You are the MVP of the whole show.”

Some, however, chimed in about the character’s alleged similarities to Sameer Wankhede. One comment read, “Bhai Woh Dhoondh raha he (brother they are looking for you).” When Ashish asked who, the commenter added, “Sameer, jiska role kiya (Sameer, whom you played). Ashish simply added a laugh emoji in response.” Another comment read, “Acted so good the real one got offended and tried to sue for defamation.”

When one Instagram user commented, “Sameer wankhede ki fielding set kar di (You roasted Sameer Wankhede),” Ashish responded, “God bless everyone, bro, I just did my job.”

About The Ba***ds of Bollywood

Ashish plays a cop on The Ba***ds of Bollywood. He arrives at a party thrown by a Bollywood producer and arrests an actor who was not in possession of any drugs. Sameer Wankhede has claimed the character is modelled on him and shows enforcement agencies in a bad light. In 2021, Wankhede famously arrested the show’s creator and director, Aryan Khan, on drug charges. Aryan was later cleared of all charges, and Wankhede was transferred out of the NCB.

The show stars Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Manoj Pahwa, and Mona Singh in the lead roles. It was the fourth-most-watched non-English show of Netflix globally in the week of its release.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Opens Up About Explosive Fight With Dad Before His Death

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently opened up about a painful rift with his late father, Rocky Johnson, saying their final conversation came after Rocky published his 2019 memoir, Soulman: The Rocky Johnson Story. Dwayne was stunned to discover the book included a foreword attributed to him — though he insists he never wrote it. According to him, that misrepresentation “completely crossed the line,” touching on what he sees as a pattern of attention-seeking and narcissism.

He described their 2019 argument as the biggest clash they ever had, tracing it back roughly 25 years earlier when he chose to pursue wrestling — a path Rocky initially challenged. The revelation came as part of a broader reflection on his complicated relationship with his father, acknowledging Rocky’s strengths as a friend and mentor to others even as their personal bond was fractured.

Dwayne also shared memories from his childhood, including a traumatic episode when, as a teenager, he and his mother were evicted in Hawaii. Expecting to stay with his father in Tennessee, he arrived to find himself placed in a motel — with Rocky nowhere to be found. He later learned the move was tied to Rocky living with another woman. Reflecting on his mother’s pain, Dwayne has publicly said that period still haunts him. *do you have a strained relationship w one of your parents? How do you manage it?*

Gabrielle Union Opens Up About the One Career Move That Changed Everything

Gabrielle Union, a multi-hyphenate talent, has built her success on reinvention and resilience. Speaking at the Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit, she reflected on her journey, she said: “It’s the power of the pivot. When it’s not working or it doesn’t sit right in my soul, I’m losing sleep. It’s wrong. I have to pivot, and there’s no shame in my game. I didn’t like it; it did not work for me. I’m going to try again.”

Union was recognized for ventures including Proudly, a baby-care brand for children of color launched with husband Dwyane Wade, along with Flawless haircare and Bitsy’s healthy snacks. She described her mission: “All I wanted to do was to help and ensure I covered the most vulnerable while centering the needs, wants, desires and fears of folks who have been historically marginalized. When I do that in my arts and entrepreneurship, my soul sings. That’s what it all boils down to.”

During a Q&A, Union recalled a defining moment from the Bad Boys II press tour in 2003: “While I had that microphone in my hand, I knew I could speak truth to power and make real change. That was the first time I was like, ‘Wow, people are listening to me, they’re printing what I’m saying and it’s traveling around the world. So I should say something of substance that helps more than just me.’” She added: “I’ve never betrayed that trust, and that allows me to tell different kinds of stories and create companies that center the most vulnerable. If those people can trust that I have their best interests at heart and I’m gonna do right by them, I can do anything.”

Union also reflected on her evolving career, from relaunching Flawless in 2020 to revisiting the 25th anniversary of Bring It On. Speaking about working behind the scenes, she said: “If you never have access to look behind the curtain to see how the sausage is made, you think what they show you is all that there is. The second I peeked behind the curtain, I said, ‘Oh hell no.’ There’s more to this. I wanted to be a part of making that happen. I wanted to be a part of how the sausage is made and not just eat whatever they handed me.”

We can’t wait to continue meeting the filmmakers who will be responsible for telling the most necessary stories of tomorrow.”

Salman Khan Opens Up About His Struggle With Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Must-Listen | Glamsham.com

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently made a heartfelt appearance on the debut episode of Two Much, a chat show hosted by Twinkle Khanna and Kajol. Joined by fellow actor Aamir Khan, Salman candidly shared his long struggle with trigeminal neuralgia, a severe nerve disorder that causes intense facial pain.

Salman revealed that he first experienced symptoms while filming Partner (2007) with Lara Dutta. “Lara brushed a strand of hair off my face, and I felt this sharp, shocking pain. I joked, ‘Wow Lara, you’re electrifying!’ But that’s when it started,” he recalled.

He lived with the condition for over seven-and-a-half years, enduring waves of pain every 4–5 minutes. “It was so intense, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I had to force myself to eat through the pain. Even something as simple as an omelet could take over an hour to finish,” Salman said.

Initially, doctors believed it was a dental issue. He took 750 mg of painkillers regularly, but they barely helped. He admitted that the pain only slightly subsided after having “a drink or two.” In 2011, he finally underwent surgery to treat the condition.

Salman has since revealed that trigeminal neuralgia is just one of several serious health conditions he faces. During his June appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, he shared, “I’m still working despite a brain aneurysm, trigeminal neuralgia, and AV (arteriovenous) malformation. My ribs are fractured, but I’m out here breaking bones every day.”

Despite his health struggles, Salman remains active in the industry and continues to inspire fans with his resilience and dedication.

Kanye West ’In Whose Name?’ Documentary Opens to Solid Box Office

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

The box office numbers have arrived for the documentary In Whose Name? from filmmaker Nico Ballesteros, who was granted unvarnished access to Kanye West — now known as just Ye — in the six tumultuous years following his public embrace of conservative politics. The film opened to a limited release, screening at around 494 theaters nationwide. In its opening weekend, the film grossed $776,000, a strong domestic box office performance for a documentary without significant marketing behind it.

For comparison, the Oscar-winning doc No Other Land logged a cumulative $420,000 a month after opening in January, on its way to earning $2.4 million to date. It’s Never Over, the doc about Jeff Buckley, also saw opening numbers in the $420,000 range. Becoming Led Zeppelin, released in February, is 2025’s top-earning doc opening to over $2 million, though it screened internationally.

Clips from In Whose Name?, including one in which Ye explosively lashes out at Kris Jenner, have been circulating around social media for several days, as the film’s unfettered level of access presents a view of Ye that many fans have never seen. The film offers a behind-the-scenes view of some of his most controversial moments in recent years, most notably the aftermath of his White Lives Matter T-shirt and subsequent antisemitic Twitter tirade.

While In Whose Name? comes short of offering any explanations as to how Ye went from a beloved musical icon to effectively a social pariah, it does provide a clear view into the world of celebrity in our highly digitized and politicized age. The team behind the film hopes to screen it in more theaters in the coming months, as well as make the movie available on streaming platforms. Its strong first-week performance suggests there is, in fact, an audience hoping to decipher the mind of Ye all these years later.

Trending Stories

The doc was executive produced by Patrick Hughes, Nick Jarjour, Amy Ann Singh, and Justin Staple. Attorney Simran Singh, who executive produced Selena: The Series, is also credited as a producer.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article misstated the number of screens that carried the film.

Armada Music Opens New Creative Hub in London to Boost Local Scene

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

LONDON — Armada Music Group, home to the independent dance label of the same name, will open a brand new creative hub in London for its roster, it was announced Monday (Sept. 22).

The 7,000-square-foot space in London’s Old Street in the heart of Shoreditch spans six floors and boasts recording studios, event space, listening rooms and more.

Armada Music was founded in 2003 by Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren, business executive Maykel Piron, and music manager David Lewis. The group now encompasses a number of subsidiary labels, the first-ever dance investment fund (BEAT Music Fund) and a publishing division.

The space in London includes two state-of-the-art recording studios for recording, and room to host writing camps for its roster. An event space has also been built with L-Acoustics club-grade sound system, and has live streaming capabilities and can host a capacity of approximately 130 people. There are also listening rooms for A&R sessions as well as working space for 60 full-time employees. See pictures below.

Speaking exclusively to Billboard U.K., Armada’s chief executive Piron expanded on the decision to bring this space to the U.K., the label’s second-largest market. “The U.K. is undeniably a vibrant hub for dance music, and as a global company, our aim is to sign and develop artists in London on an international scale,” he says. “This expanded presence will provide more opportunities to sign global acts. We expect this to lead to a significant increase in overall global streams. This new space will serve as a dynamic creative hub, fostering the creation of more hits in the UK and worldwide.”

Armada has had success in recent years with Manchester-born DJ and producer D.O.D, who achieved his first U.K. top 20 hit in 2023 with “So Much In Love.” In 2024, the label also saw a resurgence for Mason & Superstar’s 2007 song “Perfect (Exceeder)” which re-entered the top 40 decades after its original release. The space will also serve Armada’s international roster such as Armin van Buuren, Joris Voorn, Lilly Palmer, THEMBA and ARTY.

“This is a pivotal moment for Armada and a testament to the U.K.’s vibrant dance music scene,” said Ben Malone, general manager of Armada Music U.K. “This new hub will empower us to further champion local artists, provide them with unparalleled resources, and foster more innovation and creativity in the UK.”

Diana Penty Opens Up About Choosing Her First Web Series| Bollywood Bubble

by jummy84 September 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Diana Penty is an Indian actress and model who made a smooth transition from the fashion world to Bollywood. The actress made her debut with Cocktail, since then she’s appeared in films like Happy Bhag Jayegi, Parmanu, and Shiddat, showing off her range in both light-hearted and serious roles.Known for her graceful presence and effortless style, Diana also continues to be a popular face in the fashion and brand space.

Diana Penty Opens Up About Her First Web Series

After making her mark in films and the digital film space, Diana Penty now steps into the world of web shows with her first-ever OTT series, which is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. The series also stars Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead role alongside Diana. While Tamannaah essays the role of Shikha, Diana plays Anahita, a character she describes as layered, fun, and meaningful exactly the kind of role she had been waiting for.

Reflecting on why she took her time to say yes to the web show format, Diana shares,
“Well, what can I say…I’m always late to the party! But on a serious note, I’ve always been sure that I will wait for the opportunities that are right for me, the ones that I feel the most invested in. Because it doesn’t make sense to do something just for the sake of doing it, or because there’s a certain pressure to do it. In my mind, the perfect OTT debut involved something weighty – a good, solid part, not a small part in a big show. I wanted to play a character that was significant throughout the show.”

She further adds, “And equally important for me was a good platform, a good banner and directors I felt comfortable with – because at the end of the day, I’ve always been a director’s actor. Do You Wanna Partner couldn’t have been more perfect as my OTT series debut – with Prime Video and Dharmatic being on board, and with Archit Kumar and Colin DCunha leading the way. Not to mention, the opportunity to play Anahita, a character I had been waiting for a long time! I’d say the wait was definitely worthwhile”

With her role as Anahita, Diana finally found the balance of significance and substance she had been waiting for, making this series her most exciting digital outing yet.

Dharmatic Entertainment’s new comedy-drama stars Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty as two women who dive into the craft beer business together. With investors, family drama, and friendship on the line, things get hilarious and messy. The show, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, also features Javed Jaffrey, Shweta Tiwari, Nakuul Mehta, and Rannvijay Singha. The series is directed by Archit Kumar and Collin D’Cunha, and was co-created by Mithun Gongopadhyay and Nishant Nayak, who also contributed to the writing along with Nandini Gupta and Aarsh Vora.
