What Happened at Pitchfork’s Zine Launch With Oklou

by jummy84 October 17, 2025

Rough Trade Below, the record store and venue tucked inside Rockefeller Center, was the spot for the launch of Pitchfork’s new zine on French pop singer Oklou. The zine is available to purchase at Rough Trade, and it complements the new cover story “Oklou’s Endless Summer.”

After everyone took their seats (or crowded in the back), complementary zines in hand, Head of Editorial Content Mano Sundaresan interviewed Oklou on stage to the crowd of 150 people. Oklou spoke about balancing life on tour with being a new mother, the power of minimalism on her breakout record, choke enough, and her online music influences. She also previewed and discussed music from the imminent deluxe edition, including her acoustic cover of “The fish song,” by hyperpop favorite underscores. The interview was recorded and will be up on Pitchfork’s YouTube channel soon.

After the interview, a long line of fans asked Oklou more questions, and then Oklou held a meet-and-greet, signing zines and records. Check out photos from the event below.

Oklou: “viscus” [ft. FKA twigs] Track Review

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Pregnancy changed Oklou’s mind as well as her body. “I feel like my consciousness has naturally, without me even trying, gotten rid of any source of stress and anxiety,” she told FKA twigs when the two artists spoke for Highsnobiety earlier this year. On “viscus,” from the forthcoming deluxe edition of Oklou’s debut album, choke enough, the French electronic pop star-in-the-making meets one of her direct influences in the ether. At first, the track sounds right at home among the album’s filigreed miniatures, but then the tinny percussion, vaporwave synthesisers, and chamber orchestration begin to interlock at new angles, forming a glittering exoskeleton.

As she told Pitchfork in our cover story, Oklou’s creative process runs on late-night Logic sessions and long periods of isolation. “viscus” yearns to swap digital ideas for real bodies. “I get lost so deep inside me,” Oklou intones—perhaps a characteristically oblique nod to the chronic stomachaches that she and twigs had bonded over. “The body is a temple/Am I worshipping too hard?” When twigs’ voice enters, it’s from the other side of the stereo mix, beckoning us from the cloud down to the club. Oklou has said that she used to dance far more than she does today; on “viscus,” we hear those muscles start to engage again.

Oklou has announced an expansion of Choke Enough—and with it, “Viscus,” a new song and video with FKA twigs. Below, watch the duo make their way around an unsettling suburban home in director Gil Gharbi’s video. In addition to “Viscus,” Choke Enough Deluxe features three new songs, out October 30 via True Panther. An expansion-pack vinyl follows on November 28.

Back in June, Oklou released a remix EP to accompany Choke Enough, with contributions from Nick León, Malibu, Aaron Hibell, and Jamesjamesjames. She will appear in conversation with Pitchfork’s Mano Sundaresan at the rescheduled launch of Pitchfork’s Oklou zine on October 16. Twigs, meanwhile, is set to release a new album, Eusexua Afterglow, on November 14.

PinkPantheress Announces Fancy That Remix Project With Oklou, Bladee, and More

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Yesterday (October 6), PinkPantheress posted a teaser video to X. In the clip, the British musician’s animated alter-ego asks if she’d “fancy some more,” then scrawls the names of a whopping 23 artists on a whiteboard, among them Oklou, Bladee, Kylie Minogue, Kaytranada, and Jade. Now, those acts have been revealed as the featured guests on Fancy Some More?, a 22-track add-on to her recent Fancy That mixtape that’s out this Friday, October 10. Check out the tracklist and cover art below.

Fancy Some More? consists of two full-album remixes, one of which appears to lean more towards pop—with appearances from Anitta, Seventeen, Oklou, Jade, Yves, JT, Sugababes, Kylie Minogue, Bladee, Zara Larsson, Ravyn Lenae, and Rachel Chinouriri—while the other boasts a slew of dance and electronic acts—Nia Archives, Kaytranada, Basement Jaxx, Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, DJ Caio Prince, Mochakk, Loukeman, Leod, Sega Bodega, Groove Armada, and Kilimanjaro.

PinkPantheress shared Fancy That in May. She’s since teamed up with Danny L Harle on his new song “Starlight,” and, later this month, will kick off her An Evening With PinkPantheress tour of North America.

Read about Fancy That on “The Best Music of 2025 So Far.”
