Thamma Ayushmann Khurrana Talks About His Box Office Achievements & Upcoming Sooraj Barjatya Film, “I Am A Quintessential Risk Taker…”

Exclusive: Ayushmann Khurrana Celebrates His 5th 100 Crore Film Thamma ( Photo Credit – Maddock Films )

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying the success of his horror comedy Thamma, also starring Rashmika Mandanna. Helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is the fifth offering of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and it has led the MHCU to a 1000 crore total in India. Interestingly, Ayushmann is the only Indian actor of his generation who delivered two 100 crore films post-COVID!

The superstar, who is excited for the upcoming trajectory of MHCU, in an exclusive conversation with Koimoi, talked about his box office achievements and how he has never shied away from taking risks. He promised to continue taking risks with his upcoming line of films, which also includes Sooraj Barjatya’s next.

Ayushmann Khurrana On His Box Office Achievements!

The actor has delivered the 5th 100 crore grosser of his career, but Ayushmann emphasized being a pure artist at heart. Talking about delivering the highest-grossing standalone film of MHCU, the actor said, “I’m too right-brained to think about numbers. But one thing that numbers indicate is that you’re reaching out to as many people as possible, and for an artist, that’s very gratifying because what you want to do is for people, and their appreciation is the biggest appreciation.

Sequels Should Have Something To Say!

Discussing picking a sequel, the actor maintained, “I always believe you should not go for a sequel if you have nothing new to say.” However, is there a dilemma while picking a franchise that will work like the initial part? The Andhadhun actor affirms, “So if there’s a tight, ready script with something novel in there, which seamlessly segues to the next film, then of course, it should be an obvious sequel. But otherwise, just to gain something out of it, it doesn’t make sense. So I guess I’m for the freshness and uniqueness of scripts more than just going for sequels.

100 Crore Number Game – Not A Pressure!

Talking about delivering two 100 crore films in a post-pandemic world, Ayushmann Khurrana gladly credited it to his filmmakers. The actor said, “For me, numbers only indicate that you’re reaching as many people as possible. I also believe that I’m fortunate to work with very commercial minds like Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, Aditya Sarpotdar, and the previous films with Raj Chandel and Ekta Kapoor. I believe that this success, this 100 crore number game, makes me more courageous as an artist to take more risks, which I have taken pre-pandemic.”

He continues, “I would love to do films of that genre, which are probably not commercial, commercial (in quotes, on paper), but they still achieve a good feat at the box office. And, you know, commercial films like Dream Girl, Thamma, or future films like Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 or Sooraj Barjatya’s next film will make me more confident as a risk taker. Because I’m a quintessential risk taker, I will always do that.”

We wish the actor all the best of luck for his upcoming projects.

Stay tuned to Koimoi for exclusive interviews and Bollywood news.

The Girlfriend box office collection

According to trade website Sacnilk, The Girlfriend brought in a collection of ₹2.50 crore net in India on Saturday, taking its domestic total to ₹ 3.80 crore. The film had an opening of ₹1.30 crore, with the Telugu version making ₹ 1.25 crore and the Hindi version earning only ₹ 0.05 crore. It saw an occupancy rate of 25.38% on Saturday, compared to 16.90% on its opening day, indicating an increase in revenue. With the film’s team going all out to promote, it remains to be seen if the film will continue to improve over the weekend and how it fares during the weekdays.

About The Girlfriend

The Girlfriend is directed by actor-filmmaker Rahul Ravindran and produced by Dheeraj Mogilneni and Vidya Koppineni. Hesham Abdul Wahab has composed the film’s music, and Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts has presented it. Rashmika and Dheekshith play the lead roles in the film, which also stars Rao Ramesh in a key role. The film tells the story of postgraduate student, Bhooma Devi (Rashmika), who is gaslighted into falling in love with Vikram (Dheekshith), the college stud. She soon finds herself in a toxic situation she does not seem to be able to extract herself from.

Talking to Hindustan Times last year, Rahul spoke about the film and praised Rashmika, saying, “Rashmika is the kind of person you could close your eyes and go to war with. The amount of faith she has given me as a director…the way she has dived in and given her everything, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with her.”

Junglee Pictures’ HAQ Sees 100% Jump on Day 2, Box Office Collections to Double Up on Sunday

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar starrer HAQ is making waves at the box office. After registering a promising opening on day one with a collection of Rs.2.03 crore, the film showed a 100% jump on day 2 of its theatrical run. HAQ has found universal love among audiences across the country, and the numbers are expected to jump another 100% from Saturday’s collections.

HAQ is showcasing similar trends to Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail, an authentic film that performed excellently after strong word of mouth and positive reviews began pouring.

Directed by Suparn Varma, HAQ stars Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam Dhar and it also features Vartika Singh making her debut with the film and powerhouse performers Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady. It explores themes of the Uniform Civil Code, Triple Talaq, and gender equality before the law. Written by Reshu Nath, produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ is currently running in theatres.

HAQ

Audiences have been reacting positively to the movie. The initial reactions for the movie opened up about the strong plot and intense performances from Emraan and Yami. During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Yami said, “Today, we’re having larger conversations about these things, and that’s a good thing. The kind of roles being written for women are evolving, and audiences are welcoming. Audience never discriminates. I feel like a small part of this ever-evolving phase of cinema.”

Our reviewer gave the movie 4.5 stars. He commented, “Haq is a reminder that clarity, reason and moral courage can indeed be cinematic. Watch it for its sincerity, for its grace, for its argument but above all, watch it for the performances that give this battle a beating, breathing human heart. And watch it because it believes that the Indian woman, regardless of faith, deserves the Constitution as her shield, not the mercy of men.”

bitchy | Donald Trump stood by blankly as a man collapsed in the Oval Office

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

There was another bonkers “press conference” in the Oval Office yesterday. They organize these pressers because Donny Dementia can’t move his dinosaur butt to the actual Press Room and they’re also too lazy to actually stage these events in another room. So they allow Donny to doze off, with his wig askance, behind the Resolute Desk, while his staff make bonkers announcements.

Yesterday’s presser was supposed to feature Robert Kennedy Jr., Dr. Oz and various pharma CEOs as they announced lowering the prices on GLPs. Just as Dr. Oz and others were railing about obesity and dementia – as Trump dozed off – one of the men collapsed in the Oval. Kennedy hauled ass out of there as Oz and some of the other men attended to the now unconscious man. Meanwhile, Trump stood up from the desk and just… did nothing. Just stood there, staring into space blankly. Reportedly, the guy who collapsed is doing okay. No mention if Trump was still standing there blankly. Kennedy did make it known that he wasn’t getting the hell out of Dodge, he was actually getting a chair and a cold compress, or so he says.

‘Die My Love’ Oscar and Box Office Chances Unpacked

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

MUBI goes wide, sans platform release, this weekend with Lynne Ramsay’s psychosexual postpartum frenzy “Die My Love” in theaters around the country. It’s the distributor and streamer’s widest release since “The Substance” took a similar trajectory last year, ultimately earning more than $17 million in the U.S.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence in a performance as confrontational and abrasive as the one she gave in Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” Here, she plays a sputtering-out writer suffering depression and psychosis after giving birth to her first child. Lawrence, who was in the second trimester of her second pregnancy while filming, shot the movie in Calgary, Canada, with co-stars Robert Pattinson (who plays her hapless husband), Sissy Spacek, Nick Nolte, and LaKeith Stanfield.

The Obsessed

Some minor editorial reshapings were done, as Ramsay explained to IndieWire in a recent interview, since the movie premiered at Cannes in May. “Die My Love” is not going to repeat horror movie “The Substance’s” box office numbers by any means for MUBI, but the point of the wide release isn’t that: It’s to lure more subscribers to its arthouse streaming platform.

Screen Talk podcast hosts Anne Thompson and Ryan Lattanzio reassess “Die My Love” post-Cannes on this week’s episode. Lawrence has to knock out one in a stacked deck of Best Actress Oscar contenders — Jessie Buckley, Renate Reinsve, Emma Stone, Rose Byrne, and Cynthia Erivo — to make it into the final five.

Elsewhere on this week’s episode, we also look at the state of the race for Netflix’s slate of awards contenders, with Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” rising among Academy voters Anne has spoken to as the movie enters its first weekend of streaming. Anne and Ryan both have a good feeling about “Train Dreams” scoring a Best Actor Oscar nomination and a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination for Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar. “Jay Kelly” is also playing well for hometown industry voters, and up against another industry movie but one flung to Norway, Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value.” Netflix’s “A House of Dynamite,” meanwhile, has struggled since playing festivals after Venice despite strong streaming showings in the Netflix top 10 the last two weeks.

Listen to the podcast in the episode below.

The film, part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe alongside Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, has experienced a slowdown in its third week of release. Let us take a look at the total collection so far.

Thamma box office collection day 17: Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana in a still from the film.

Thamma box office update

As per the latest update on Saclink, Thamma collected ₹ 0.87 crore as per early estimates. This takes the total collection to ₹126.82 crore. The film had an opening of ₹24 crore when it was released on Diwali, and went on to collect ₹ 108.4 crore in its first week. In the next few days, Thamma is expected to cross the ₹ 130 crore mark in India.

Thamma is the fifth instalment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. It also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal. The story revolves around Ayushmann’s character, who turns into a vampire and falls in love with Rashmika’s character, leading to a “bloody love story” full of twists. He plays a meek journalist who transforms into a vampire-like figure.

What’s next for the horror-comedy universe?

After Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Thamma, the MHCU has Shakti Shalini with Saiyaara actor Aneet Padda lined up. Taking to his Instagram stories a few days ago, Ayushmann had shared the attachment for Shakti Shalini, which was attached to Thamma and wrote, “Welcome to the MHCU @aneetpadda Punjabi aa gaye oye (Punjabis are here)!! From one dreamer to another – keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible.. so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! Onwards and upwards Aneet.”

Aneet re-shared the post on her Instagram stories and thanked him for his kind words, writing, “Khurrana ji da munda is making waves like always (Khurrana ji the man is making waves like always). Thank you so much, it’s a little extra special coming from someone I look up to so much. So so grateful for the warm wishes.” Amar Kaushik will serve as the director of the upcoming film.
