Is Casey Means a Doctor? Inside Surgeon General Nominee’s Background – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Casey Means has steadily worked her way into Donald Trump‘s orbit while focusing on her pseudoscientific business. After working closely with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his former presidential campaign, Casey established herself as a popular name. Since many — including the president — have called Casey a doctor while addressing her, some are wondering if she is an actual M.D.

Below, learn all about Casey’s medical expertise and educational background.

Who Is Casey Means?

Casey is a wellness influencer, co-author of Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health and co-founder and chief medical officer at Levels. Due to Trump’s nomination of her to be the surgeon general, Casey could serve in the position while supporting RFK Jr.

Is Casey Means a Real Doctor?

Yes, Casey is a doctor, but she doesn’t practice medicine. She has an inactive license and holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Stanford University. When she turned 30, Casey dropped out of Oregon Health and Science University to pursue her pseudoscientific goals while challenging mainstream healthcare in America.

As her career progressed, Casey opened her own medical practice in Portland, Oregon, but her state license has been inactive since early 2024.

While promoting her 2024 book, Casey pointed out in a lengthy Instagram post that the “the metabolic health crisis is the biggest threat we face” in the U.S. She further alleged that the “biggest lie in healthcare is that type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s, depression, arthritis, infertility and more are totally different diseases requiring separate doctors and pills for life.”

“The chronic diseases which account for 90 percent of health costs and nine out of 10 deaths result from the SAME THING — dysfunction in our body’s fundamental ability to produce energy, which is caused by simple environmental features that have changed in just a century,” Casey added in her caption at the time.

Is Casey Means Married?

Yes, Casey is reportedly married to her husband, Brian Nickerson. She has kept details from her personal life away from the public eye. She went into labor with her first child in October 2025.

Who Is Calley Means?

Calley Means is Casey’s brother, who co-authored their book, Good Energy, and he has remained a prominent presence in his sister’s career. As a former food industry lobbyist, Calley has expressed his support for RFK Jr. and the “Make America Healthy Again” goal.

Cinema Eye Honors 2025 Unveils First Round of Honorees and Nominees

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Cinema Eye Honors, the organization that “recognizes outstanding artistic achievement in nonfiction and documentary films and series” has launched its 19th annual celebrations today with the announcement of its first round of honorees, nominees, and longlists for 2026.

Among today’s announcements: the 16 films on the Audience Choice Prize Longlist, the unveiling of this year’s Unforgettables Honorees, nominees in five Broadcast categories (which, full disclosure, this writer serves on the nominating committees for), and the annual Shorts List (which spotlights 10 of the year’s top documentary short films).

The annual list of the Unforgettables — “the on-camera collaborators” from seven of the year’s best docs — are the first official honorees of the season and often among the most touching of the entire year.

Johnny Depp, Ti West, and Andrea Riseborough

These winners include Noam Shuster-Eliassi from Amber Fares’ “Coexistence, My Ass!”; Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley from Ryan White’s “Come See Me in the Good Light”; Seymour Hersh from Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus’ “Cover-Up”; Sara Shahverdi from Sara Khaki and Mohammedreza Eyni’s “Cutting Through Rocks”; Pasha Talankin from David Borenstein’s “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”; Jacinda Ardern from Michelle Walsh and Lindsey Utz’s “Prime Minister”; and Fatma Hassouna from Sepideh Farsi’s “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk.”

The honors for Andrea Gibson and Fatma Hassouna are both posthumous. Gibson, an American poet and activist, died in July after a battle with cancer (that is depicted in the film). Hassouna, a Palestinian photojournalist and artist, was killed alongside 10 family members in an Israeli airstrike in April.

Elsewhere, today’s list includes Broadcast Film and Series announcements, with FX on Hulu’s “Social Studies,” by director Lauren Greenfield, leading with three nominations (Nonfiction Series, Broadcast Cinematography, and Broadcast Editing). Mariska Hargitay’s “My Mom Jayne” and Matt Wolf’s “Pee-Wee as Himself” both picked up two nominations, as did Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s “Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius),” Darius Clark Monroe’s “Dallas, 2019,” and Nyle DiMarco and Davis Guggenheim’s “Deaf President Now!”

“Deaf President Now!” also shows up as one of 16 films named to Cinema Eye’s annual Audience Choice Prize Longlist, where documentary fans and viewers from around the world cast their votes to determine this year’s ten nominees and ultimately the prize winner. The Longlist includes many of this year’s most acclaimed and talked about documentaries, including “Apocalypse in the Tropics”; “Coexistence, My Ass!”; “Cutting Through Rocks”; “The Eyes of Ghana”; “Folktales”; “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley”; “The Librarians”; “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore”; “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”; “Orwell: 2+2=5”; “The Perfect Neighbor”; and “The Tale of Silyan.”

The Audience Choice Prize is often a key harbinger for future documentary awards, including the Best Documentary Oscar. This year’s Oscar winner, “No Other Land,” was on the Longlist and the previous six Oscar winners were all Audience Choice nominees. Initial voting to determine this year’s nominees will open on Tuesday, October 28.

Lastly, Cinema Eye also announced the ten films on this year’s Shorts List, the organization’s annual list of semi-finalists for its Nonfiction Short Film Honor. Of those ten films, six will be announced as the official nominees. Last year, four of the nominees (and the eventual winner) for the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film were part of the Cinema Eye Shorts List.

Cinema Eye will return to the historic New York Academy of Medicine in East Harlem for its 19th Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The full list of nominees for the 2025 Mercury Prize has been announced, with the shortlist including Sam Fender, Fontaines D.C., PinkPantheress and more.

Celebrating the work of both esteemed and emerging artists from U.K and Ireland, the Mercury Prize is awarded annually and recognizes artistic achievement in LPs across a range of genres. Recent winners include English Teacher (2024), Ezra Collective (2023), Little Simz (2022), Arlo Parks (2021) and Michael Kiwanuka (2020). The Prize was first awarded in 1992 to Primal Scream for Screamadelica, and winners include collections by Pulp (1996), PJ Harvey (2001, 2011) and Arctic Monkeys (2006).

Among those featured on the 12-strong shortlist are Fontaines D.C., who have enjoyed a banner year following the release of fourth LP Romance, in August 2024. The Irish band also received a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut album, 2019’s Dogrel, and have since gone on to headline London’s Finsbury Park as well as arenas across the U.K. and Ireland. Fontaines D.C. snagged best international group at the 2025 BRIT Awards, their second win in that category.

Sam Fender, who boasts 2025’s biggest opening week sales in the U.K. so far, is nominated for People Watching. The North Shields-born musician was previously nominated for his second LP Seventeen Going Under and performed a number of large headline shows this summer, including the 80,000-capacity London Stadium and Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park.

FKA twigs is also recognised for third LP EUSEXUA, her highest-charting record yet on the Billboard 200 (No. 24). CMAT’s Euro-Country, which recently peaked at No. 2 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, gives the Irish country-pop star her second nomination for a Mercury Prize following Crazymad, For Me (2023).

Wolf Alice’s The Clearing picks up a nod, and follows their 2018 victory for Visions of a Life. Pulp’s comeback LP More, their first since 2001, and PinkPantheress’ mixtape Fancy That also feature on the nominations list.

The list is rounded out by Jacob Alon’s In Limerance; Emma-Jean Thackray’s Weirdo; Joe Webb’s Hamstrings & Hurricanes; Martin Carthy’s Transform Me Then Into A Fish; and Pa Salieu’s Afrikan Alien. View the nominations in full below.

The 2025 awards show will be presented Oct. 16, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle – the first time the ceremony has been hosted outside of London in its 33 year history. The event will feature live performances from nominees and will culminate in the announcement of the overall winner.

The shortlist was revealed at a launch event for the British press, held in central London. It was also announced live on BBC Radio 6 Music by host Lauren Laverne. As the Mercury Prize’s broadcast partner, BBC Music will provide coverage of the event across TV, radio, and online.

Albums released between Jul. 13, 2024 and Aug. 29, 2025 were eligible for consideration this year. The 12 shortlisted albums were chosen by an independent judging panel chaired by Jeff Smith, head of music, BBC 6 Music & Radio 2.

This year’s committee consisted of: Danielle Perry – broadcaster & writer; Jamie Cullum – musician & broadcaster; Jamz Supernova – broadcaster & DJ; Lea Stonhill – music programming consultant; Mistajam – songwriter, DJ & broadcaster; Phil Alexander – creative director, Kerrang!/contributing editor, Mojo; Sian Eleri – broadcaster & DJ; Will Hodgkinson – chief rock & pop critic, The Times; and Sophie Williams – writer & broadcaster.

Nominees. Performers and How to Watch

by jummy84 August 26, 2025
written by jummy84

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards are right around the corner, and the lineup keeps getting better. Along with performances and awards, there are going to be some firsts for the award show this year.

MTV‘s VMAs have been the event of the year for the cable network for four decades, but this year, for the first time ever, the awards show will alter where it airs. Instead of running exclusively live on MTV, the 2025 VMAS will air on network television as well as streaming.

Here is what we know so far about the 2025 VMAs so far.

When are the 2025 VMAs?

The VMAs will air live on Sunday, September 7, at 8/7c, from the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Where will the 2025 VMAs air?

The VMAs will air on CBS for the first time in history. So, if you don’t have cable, you will be able to watch it on a broadcast channel instead of MTV. However, the three-hour broadcast will also simulcast on MTV for old times’ sake.

The one-hour live pre-show will air across Paramount Media Networks.

Will the VMAs be streaming?

Yes! The awards will stream on Paramount+ at the same time.

Who is hosting the 2025 VMAs?

LL Cool J will host. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Hip-Hop trailblazer was announced on August 14. He will take the VMAs reins solo for the first time, after previously serving as co-emcee in 2022 with Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow. He took home his first Moon Person in 1991 for Best Rap and was the first rapper to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 1997. Other milestone moments on the VMAs stage include a show-stopping celebration for Def Jam Recording’s 40th anniversary with surprise guest Public Enemy in 2024 and celebrating Hip-Hop turning 50 with an all-star tribute in 2023. This year, his single “Murdergram Deaux” (ft. Eminem) is nominated for Best Hip-Hop. The song was off his 2024 critically acclaimed album The Force.

In 2024, Megan Thee Stallion hosted the VMAs.

Who is nominated for the 2025 VMAs?

Lady Gaga leads this year’s nominations with 12 nods. See the full list of nominees here.

Nominations, performers, and additional details will be announced closer to the broadcast date. Last year, Taylor Swift topped the award show, winning seven Moon Person Awards, including Video of the Year for “Fortnight (featuring Post Malone).”

Nominations for this year’s Social Categories, Best Group and Song of the Summer, will be revealed on Friday, Aug. 29.

Who will receive special honors?

Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes will receive the MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award. Global icon Ricky Martin will be honored with the Latin Icon Award. Both are the first recipients of these awards.

The Video Vanguard Award recipient will be Mariah Carey. Katy Perry was honored with the award in 2024. Carey returns to the stage for the first time in 20 years to perform her biggest hits throughout her career. Her last medley performance on the VMAs was in 2005. This is a full-circle moment for her as she presented the same award to host LL Cool J in 1997.

The best-selling female artist of all time made her VMAs debut in 1991 and has performed on the show a few times since. This honor comes as Carey celebrates 20 years of her tenth album, The Emancipation of Mimi, which features one of her biggest songs, “We Belong Together.”

Carey is a five-time Grammy Award winner who has sold more than 220 million albums worldwide. She has 19 Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, which is more than any solo artist in history, according to a press release.

Her performance comes just weeks before her sixteenth studio album, Here For It All, drops on September 26. The single “Type Dangerous” from the album is nominated for Best R&B at this year’s awards.

What else should you know about this year’s VMAs?

The 2024 VMAs delivered its biggest multi-network audience in four years and ranked as the “most social” VMAs in history, with over 66 million social interactions, according to a press release. The VMAs awards the biggest names in music that year and the best music videos. The award show guarantees “history-making performances, iconic tributes, culture-defining moments, and the biggest surprises from the world’s biggest superstars.”
