Amanza Smith Lit Up Miami Art Week as the Creators Gala Delivered a Night of Art, Influence, and Luxury

written by jummy84

The return of Miami Art Week brought with it a surge of creative energy, and few gatherings captured its cultural pulse more vividly than the 2nd Annual Creators Gala Art Party, presented by Twenty35, Swagger Magazine, Jane Owen Public Relations and Zooz Group. On December 4, 2025, the trio of powerhouse brands once again transformed the One Ocean South residence an architectural jewel in Miami Beach’s South Pointe enclave into a haven for art, fashion, and elevated luxury.

The evening was hosted by Amanza Smith, the multifaceted television personality whose nine-season presence on Netflix’s Selling Sunset had already established her as a global figure in design and entertainment. This time, her artistic voice took center stage. Fresh off sold-out shows at MASH Gallery Los Angeles and Grove Gallery London, Smith unveiled a new art collection that showcased her evolving visual language, rich with texture, movement, and introspective expression. Her transition from model, actress, interior designer, and realtor to exhibiting artist resonated deeply during a week that celebrates creative reinvention.

Smith was joined by a dynamic lineup of creators from Zooz Group’s global influencer roster. Their presence underscored the gala’s identity as a gathering point for emerging talents and established tastemakers across entertainment, lifestyle, and media.

Throughout the night, guests experienced the sophisticated ambiance of One Ocean South, beginning with red-carpet arrivals and continuing with curated culinary offerings and elevated mixology. Signature cocktails featured selections from the William Grant & Sons portfolio Milagro Tequila, Hendrick’s Gin, Glenfiddich Scotch, Reyka Vodka, and Monkey Shoulder Whisky while Sommsation presented an artfully assembled array of wines and sparkling varietals that complemented the evening’s “Liquid Art” theme. Premium Italian lager Peroni and Peroni 0.0 added a crisp, refreshing note to the drinks program, rounding out the celebration of artisanal craftsmanship.

Music played a pivotal role as DEOCA, one of Miami’s most exciting emerging producers and DJs, curated the soundscape. Having worked alongside major talents such as J Balvin, Trippie Redd, and David Guetta, and with several Top 10 releases on Beatport’s Tech House charts, DEOCA delivered a high-energy, globally influenced set that amplified the creative spirit of the evening.

Beyond the glamour, the gala also supported a meaningful cause through its partnership with GettingAlong.com, an organization dedicated to empowering future educators and policymakers with resources that foster societal well-being, personal growth, and responsible citizenship. The collaboration added a thoughtful dimension to an event celebrated for its artistry and cultural impact.

The 2nd Annual Creators Gala once again stood out as a defining highlight of Miami Art Week—an experience where contemporary art, digital influence, and luxury living converged seamlessly. With Amanza Smith’s artistic evolution at its heart, a captivating roster of influential guests, and a carefully curated sensory journey, the evening left an indelible impression on attendees and reaffirmed the gala’s place among Miami Art Week’s most anticipated destinations.

As the city’s signature art festivities continued, the Creators Gala distinguished itself as a celebration of vision, creativity, and cultural momentum an unforgettable night where art did more than adorn the walls; it shaped the atmosphere itself.

Melissa McCarthy Gets Engulfed by a Snowstorm on Saturday Night Live

by jummy84 December 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Melissa McCarthy got Saturday Night Live in the holiday spirit with a festive opening monologue, where she was toppled by a huge faux snowstorm.

After a few weeks off air, the two-time Oscar nominee began the episode by celebrating how “great” it was to be back for her sixth time hosting the sketch comedy series. Marking the first episode to air in the month of December, McCarthy also commemorated it being “a special time of the year.”

“It’s about family and friends and classic Christmas music. Come on, set the mood, gang,” she said as music began playing in the background. The actress then went on to show off her talents as a musician, one that plays the “mouth horn.”

“Speaking of music, there’s something most people don’t know about me, and it’s that I am a musician. And my instrument is the mouth horn. That’s right, it’s the mouth horn,” she said before she began humming the tune of “Carol of the Bells.”

McCarthy continued to rave about the holiday season, noting that she “love[s] this time of year,” going on to list a few reasons why: “The tree is lit, and Santa’s checking his lists. He’s got naughty and nice, and Epstein.”

“We could all use a little Christmas magic. So how about we put a little bit of snow to get us in the holiday mood?” she said as a string of flurries fell down around her on-set. “This is SNL, Don’t be stingy with the snow!”

The snowfall began lightly, but quickly picked up, as a wave of snow fell on top of the Little Mermaid star, engulfing her with a faux snowstorm. “Okay, that was way too much,” she exclaimed as she went on to continue the monologue, where Marcello Hernandez joined her on-stage to prompt a “piano duet.”

The SNL cast member wheeled a piano into the frame, where he accidentally pushed McCarthy out of said frame as the two bickered back and forth. Hernandez set the piano into place, as the actress joked that he dropped it on her fingers.

“Now I’ve ruined Christmas,” she said, though Kenan Thompson assured her she did not sour the occasion.

“Oh, nonsense, Melissa McCarthy. Come on, you haven’t ruined Christmas at all. Everyone here loves you,” he said. “Now why don’t we do one of your favorite Christmas songs?”

“You want me to sing?” the actress asked, as Thompson responded, “No, no. I want you to blow that sweet horn.” McCarthy then mumbled the melody of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” while a few additional SNL cast members joined her to sing and dance.

Earlier in the night, Colin Jost began the cold open by portraying Pete Hegseth, who was asked by a journalist if there was “any truth to the allegations that after an initial strike on a drug smuggling boat, you ordered a second strike to kill the survivors?”

“First of all, that kind of cruel, heartless act has no place in operation Kill Everybody,” he replied. “Second, I wasn’t in the room when it happened, okay? I was so jacked up after the first strike I had to make an emergency call to my sponsor — I’m sorry, a guy at an anonymous meeting — so I don’t drink something that I like and I want but I can’t have, but I want it, and I need it and I want it right now. It’s booze.”

James Austin Johnson joined the cold open as Trump, who showed his support for Hegseth.

“We love Pete. He’s a great guy. He’s just fog of war, right? Fog of war. It’s a thing you only say after doing war crime, right? You never hear a general go, ‘Everything went according to plan in fog of war.’ It’s like when you go into the sauna at Equinox and suddenly you’re doing stuff you never did before,” Johnson’s Trump said. “Fog of War, we love it. It’s a great new excuse, we love it. So I stand by Pete, and nothing can change my mind less. Unless of course, it could hurt me in any way, in which case, I’ll throw him under one of Mamdani’s free buses.”

McCarthy served as the first SNL host of December, alongside Dijon as musical guest. Saturday night marked her sixth time leading the show, though she’s made several cameos over the years.

There are two more SNL shows left for 2025, with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery star Josh O’Connor set to make his hosting debut on Dec. 13, with Lily Allen as musical guest. Ariana Grande will be the final host of the year, with none other than Cher as the Dec. 20 musical guest, making her first appearance on the sketch comedy show since 1987.

Season 51 has already aired six episodes, as Bad Bunny, Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller, Nikki Glaser and Glen Powell all took turns in the leading role.

‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘Munsters’ Producer Was 82

by jummy84 December 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Craig Kellem, a onetime agent for comic legends George Carlin and Lily Tomlin who served as a producer on the chaotic first season of Saturday Night Live and on syndicated reboots of The Munsters, Dragnet and Adam-12, has died. He was 82.

Kellem died Nov. 24 at an assisted living facility in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, his daughter Judy Hammett told The Hollywood Reporter. She and her father were partners in Hollywoodscript.com, a boutique script-consultation company he founded in 1998.

After serving alongside Lorne Michaels as a producer and talent coordinator on SNL’s inaugural 1975-76 season, he and Michaels produced The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, a 1978 NBC mockumentary about a Beatles-like band that was written by, co-directed and starred Eric Idle.

As a senior vp with the MCA-backed The Arthur Co., Kellem worked as a co-executive producer for two seasons (1989-91) on The Munsters Today, which ran for three years and starred John Schuck as Herman Munster and Lee Meriwether as his wife, Lily.

He also helped shepherd The New Dragnet, starring Jeff Osterhage and Bernard White, and The New Adam-12, starring Peter Parros and Ethan Wayne. Both shows aired for two seasons, 1989-91 and 1990-91, respectively.

Craig Charles Kellem was born in Philadelphia on Jan. 24, 1943. His father was Milton Kellem, a popular bandleader, songwriter (“Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now”), restaurateur and orchestra conductor for network radio programs, and his mother, Judy Shinn, was a model and a weather girl for local TV stations.

Kellem started out as an assistant at a talent agency, then became an agent with Creative Management Associates — where he was known as the “Road Runner of Madison Avenue” — and General Amusement Corp., where as a junior agent in the late 1960s he took on Carlin when others at the firm weren’t paying much attention to him.

He and Carlin reunited when the comic hosted the first episode of SNL.

“We almost didn’t get on the air because dress rehearsal went so poorly,” Kellem said in James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales’ 2002 book, Live From New York: The Complete Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live. “I remember Lorne seriously asking the network people — or having me ask them — to have a movie ready to go, just in case. And I don’t think he was kidding.”

Kellem had worked on the Sammy Davis Jr. syndicated talk show Sammy and Company and on NBC’s The Gladys Knight & the Pips Show earlier in 1975 before landing on SNL.

He later served as vp comedy development at Universal Television on such shows as Charles in Charge and Domestic Life and as a director of development for late night, syndication and daytime at 20th Century Fox Television.

His producing credits included the 1976 NBC special The Beach Boys: It’s OK, which featured concert footage from Brian Wilson’s return to the stage, and two more shows from The Arthur Co: the 1990-91 syndicated sitcom What a Dummy and the 1991-93 ABC reality series FBI: The Untold Stories, narrated by Pernell Roberts.

He and his daughter wrote the 2018 book Get It on the Page: Top Script Consultants Show You How.

Survivors also include his wife, Vivienne; son Sean; another daughter, Joelle; a brother; four grandchildren; and a niece and nephews. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Though Craig had many amazing traits, he was perhaps most known for his incredible sense of humor,” his family noted. “His ability to bring deep laughter into any room was a gift to all who knew him.”

The Largest Wedding in Iraq, Designed by Hollywood Event Designer Adam Afara… A Royal Night Celebrating Ali & Ghaliya at the World Heart Hotel

by jummy84 November 27, 2025
written by jummy84

In a scene reminiscent of fairytale legends, international event designer Adam Afara orchestrated one of the most extravagant weddings ever held in Iraq. The spectacular celebration of newlyweds Ali and Ghaliya took place at the World Heart Hotel, attended by prominent figures from the worlds of entertainment, fashion, and society.

This majestic wedding united Adam Afara’s creative signature with the designs of renowned couturier Zuhair Murad, and unforgettable performances by stars Melhem Zein and Hussam Al-Rassam—transforming the event into a lavish royal showcase rather than a traditional ceremony.

After months of meticulous planning, Adam Afara’s team brought to life a fully integrated vision featuring custom-made décor sourced from six different countries, and more than 40,000 fresh flowers adorning the ceiling and the entire ballroom—turning the venue into a suspended celestial garden.

The bride’s gown, designed by Zuhair Murad – Couture, embodied the elegance of a modern princess and perfectly complemented the wedding’s regal identity.

Even the finest details reflected exceptional craftsmanship:

  • The invitation card was inspired by a royal palace gate, harmonizing with the stage décor and ballroom aesthetics.
  • Two exclusive luxury fragrances were created as personalized gifts for the bride and groom, each bearing their names.
  • Custom-tailored table linens were designed specifically for the wedding to match the floral palette and lighting design.
  • A bespoke song performed by Melhem Zein added a personal touch, narrating the couple’s love story.

One of the evening’s biggest highlights was what Adam Afara unveiled as the largest wedding cake in Iraq—a grand royal palace–themed masterpiece, measuring 180 cm in diameter and 3 meters in height, adorned with fresh flowers, angels, and spiral staircases. The cake became a stunning visual centerpiece in the heart of the ballroom.

With this royal wedding, Adam Afara adds yet another milestone to his international portfolio as a Hollywood celebrity event designer, reaffirming his ability to transform a once-in-a-lifetime celebration into an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.

Met Gala 2026: Everything to know about fashion’s biggest night – from the theme to the galleries to the couture

by jummy84 November 19, 2025
written by jummy84

If you’ve ever wandered through The Metropolitan Museum of Art and thought, “Why does every statue look like it could land a magazine cover?”, congratulations you’re already aligned with the 2026 Met Gala theme. Next year, fashion’s biggest night is getting even bigger, bolder, and, according to curator Andrew Bolton, a little “uncorseted.”

Met Gala 2026: Sculptures can be an inspo for Costume Art(Pexels)

Met Gala 2026 theme

Yes. Famous Vogue editor Anna Wintour said, “Who needs extra words?” and the fashion world collectively bowed.

The Exhibition: “Costume Art”- Where every gallery has a dress code

The Met’s 2026 Costume Institute exhibition is titled Costume Art, and it’s about to make one thing crystal clear: Fashion is the main narrative

According to Andrew Bolton, the genius behind the exhibition, the inspiration came from one major realisation: “The dressed body is the common thread connecting the entire museum.”

From 5,000-year-old sculptures to Renaissance paintings to contemporary portraits, clothing has always been the visual narrator, signaling power, class, mythology, belief systems, gender, identity, desire… everything.

The exhibition will span:

  • Paintings
  • Sculptures
  • Ancient artifacts
  • Historical garments
  • Contemporary couture

All of these will be shown side by side in a stunning new 12,000-square-foot permanent fashion wing. This is fashion getting its rightful place at the front of the museum, not the basement, not the annex, not “just for the summer.” Permanent. Celebrated. Central.

Why this Met Gala 2026 theme breaks tradition

This is the first Costume Institute exhibition ever with no subtitle. Initially, there was one, but Bolton removed it. And in the most on-brand fashion metaphor ever, he said: “We took it out and it was like taking off a corset.”

He described the final title as bold, intentional, and free of hierarchy: Not art vs fashion. Not fashion as art. But fashion and art as equals. “Costume Art” isn’t trying to justify itself. It’s simply stating: we’ve always belonged here.

Date: First Monday in May – May 4, 2026

As always, the most dramatic night in fashion falls on the first Monday of May.

Mark your calendars, notify your group chats, cancel all other plans.

Dress code: Wear your story, literally

Because 2026 is all about the dressed body as the protagonist, expect celebrities to interpret this theme through:

  • Draped silhouettes echoing ancient sculpture
  • Renaissance-inspired embroidery
  • Painterly prints
  • Textures mimicking tapestries and frescoes
  • Sculptural gowns and exaggerated proportions
  • Gold-leaf detailing
  • Garments referencing mythology, allegories, and classical body language

Hosts: The names are to be decided, but expect maximum star power

Expect the usual formula:

  • One mega musician
  • One blockbuster actor
  • One head-turning designer
  • And the eternal constant: Anna Wintour, the Met’s North Star in sunglasses

What to expect on the Red Carpet:

If you think the Met Gala has peaked, think again. 2026 will be:

  • The year someone arrives as a literal Greek statue
  • The year someone channels a Baroque portrait
  • The year designers push sculptural couture to the extreme
  • The year the Met steps become a runway of living art
  • The year every celebrity has to truly understand the theme

Why “Costume Art” is bigger than fashion:

This exhibition is a statement. Fashion has always been part of the way humans tell stories about ourselves and each other.

Every gallery, every era, every civilization used clothing to communicate something. And now, the Costume Institute is showcasing that truth on the grandest scale ever. Instead of ranking sculptures above garments, or paintings above robes, 2026 is about equivalency. The body, dressed and expressed, is the museum’s universal language.

The 2026 Met Gala will show us how clothing and art have been intertwined for thousands of years. From myth to modernity, the dressed body has always been center stage, and this year, it gets the spotlight it deserves. Get ready for a red carpet that fuses fashion with fine art, couture with culture, and history with high glamour.

Briana Adams Eliminated in Episode 5 and Channing Wilson Wins the Night

by jummy84 November 17, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • The November 16 episode of The Road featured the group two hitting the stage in Oklahoma City.
  • The five artists each performed an original song and a cover song before being rated by the audience.
  • At the end of the night, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban chose one contestant to eliminate from the bottom two.

The second group of the Top 9 artists hit the stage in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on the Sunday, November 16, episode of The Road. This week, five singers performed a cover song and an original song while opening up for Keith Urban, with his audiences rating the performances on their phones afterwards.

At the end of the night, Urban and Blake Shelton revealed the top-rated performer, and then they decided who would be going home out of the bottom two. One singer took a big risk by singing a powerful cover song, but it ended up coming back to haunt her.

Scroll down for a recap of the performances and to find out who went home.

Channing Wilson

After being in the Top 3 in Week 1 and finishing at the top of his group in Week 2, Channing Wilson knew he had to keep the momentum going. He performed “The Weatherman” as his cover, and Urban noted, “He’s so relatable. As soon as he starts talking, I like him immediately.”

CBS

For his original song, he sang “Gettin’ Out of My Mind,” which he described as a “honkey tonk and boot-stompin’ kind of song.” Urban said it was a “great choice” and that Channing “played to the room perfectly. Shelton added, “I want him to keep going!”

Shelton also noted that this show could finally be Channing’s big break, at which point, Urban pointed out, “If Jelly Roll can win Best New Artist at 39…”

Billie Jo Jones

Billie Jo Jones’ confidence was at an all-time low after her last performance in Dallas, Texas. This week, she was still fighting the illness that’s been plaguing her throughout the competition.

Billie Jo Jones

CBS

Still, she came to the stage with a powerhouse vocal cover, singing Martina McBride‘s “Broken Wing.” Her original song was called “Whose Tequila Are You Drinkin’?” Shelton said, “I thought she did good. My only critique would be that she followed Channing, and that’s a tough task.”

Briana Adams

Briana Adams’ cover song choice of “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton was “concerning” for tour manager Gretchen Wilson, who admitted that she wasn’t sure it was a risk that would pay off.

Briana Adams

CBS

However, Urban said he “liked” the performance, although he later noted, “I wouldn’t choose it as my cover in a rowdy bar.” Shelton admitted, “I sit here a million times and say, ‘Why don’t they do a song that everybody knows,’ and of course everybody knows ‘I Will Always Love You,’ but just … something about that felt like … she overshot it a little.”

Briana’s original song was called “Belle of the Beer Bash,” which had the crowd holding their drinks up in the air. “She was pretty good,” Urban said. “I don’t know what she could’ve done differently.”

Adam Sanders

Adam Sanders sang “Heads Carolina, Tails California” for his cover, which Urban said was a “good choice.” Wilson pointed out that Adam has “a lot of confidence, as far as stage presence, vocal ability, song writing ability,” but added that he’s “only showing us one kind of side” with his performances.

Adam Sanders

CBS

He changed it up a bit with his cover, singing a power ballad called “Burning Roses” instead of a more up-tempo song. “That was a good combination,” Urban confirmed. “His voice was suited to the original. That’s his spot right there. The cover didn’t suit him vocally, but it was a good choice. The crowd loved it. He can work a crowd.”

Shelton agreed, adding, “That guy … he should be a politician.”

Britnee Kellogg

Closing out the show was Britnee Kellogg, who began her set with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”

Britnee Kellogg

CBS

“Britnee’s one of those vocalists where you don’t realize how powerful she can really be because she’s sort of soft spoken, then all of a sudden she hits these notes when she gets up there that are really incredible,” Shelton raved.

Britnee’s original was a personal tune called “She’s Come a Long Way,” and Urban said, “Britnee did great. That’s a really hard cover, and then her original connected to that audience.”

Who went home on The Road Episode 5?

After the show, Urban revealed that Channing once again received the highest rating of the night. Unfortunately, Billie Jo and Briana were in the bottom two. The guys ultimately decided to eliminated Briana.

“You both sounded really incredible,” Shelton confirmed. “For us, we feel like from the connection that was had here tonight on stage, Billie Jo was the one we’re going to move forward to next week.”

Briana admitted that she “figured as much” and acknowledged that her cover song choice was a “gamble.” Although she got emotional, she added, “Thank you so much for this opportunity. I got to come here and be unapologetically myself.”

Adam, Channing, Billie Jo, and Britnee will be joining Cassidy Daniels, Jenny Tolman, and Cody Hibbard in the next city: Tulsa, Oklahoma!

Bad Bunny, Karol G, Best Moments of the Night

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Each year, the Latin Grammys serves up something a little different — and viewers never quite know what to expect. That’s often the beauty of the ceremony, which is always filled with highs and lows and tons of surprises.

Though past shows have gotten their share of criticism for feeling staid or out-of-touch with the state of Latin music, it largely felt like the Academy and the telecast organizers got it right in 2025. The ceremony fly by, with quick transitions, performances that never lingered too much, and solid hosting duties from Maluma and Roselyn Sanchez. Even the actual winners struck the right chord: Sure, here were some shocking moments that felt typically Latin Grammys, like when Alejandro Sanz bested Bad Bunny for Record of the Year. But there was plenty of love across the generations, with the most wins of the night going to Bad Bunny and Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, who really felt like they captured the zeitgeist this year.

Seeing Bad Bunny get recognized at the Latin Grammys was also meaningful since he hasn’t always gotten love. He gets nominated a lot, but doesn’t always win, so seeing him take home Album of the Year for the poignant and quietly powerful DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS felt like the right move. Here’s more of what worked, what didn’t, and what came out of left field at the Latin Grammys.

Best of the Night

Los Tigres Del Norte Stand Up for Latinos
Of course, Los Tigres del Norte were the ones to deliver a powerful political statement, defending Latinos in this country on the Latin Grammy stage. The Mexican music legends — who’d already won a pair of awards for their Lotería EP earlier in the night — performed in front of a screen flashing images of Latinos protesting for immigrant rights, immigrant-crossing signs, and clips of families celebrating and students graduating, — a vivid reminder of the deep impact immigrants have on this country. Hernán Hernández pulled out his signature guitar, adorned with the flags of every country of Latin America, as Jorge walked around the stage pointing into the crowd, which included Gloria Estefan, Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, and Karol G, watching closely as they performed. “It always breaks your heart to leave your homeland / Because the tree no longer casts a very good shade,” Jorge sang. They were the night’s lone act to make a direct political statement — and it left quite an impression. More of this, please. —T.M.

Editor’s picks

The Duets Do It for Us
There have been a few times some of the duets at the Latin Grammys left us scratching our heads (we’re still thinking about Bon Jovi and Pitbull last year.) Luckily, most of the performances and onstage mash-ups were a pleasant surprise in 2025: Karol G and Marco Antonio Solis felt like a tasteful way to bring together generations of audiences, and Fuerza Regida with Grupo Frontera was a solid way of showing the many sides of musica mexicana. We were also huge fans of Carin Leon and Kacey Musgraves coming together for a cross-genre moment, and cheered on the energy when Gloria Estefan and Nathy Peluso sang together. —J.L.

Kakalo, DannyLux, and Ivan Cornejo Change the Game
Musica mexicana doesn’t always get the love it deserves on the telecast, but the show featured a solid moment honoring the rising generation of acts from the genre. Kakalo, DannyLux, and Ivan Cornejo each took the stage to show how they’re adding a new spin on things, performing their own tracks. Kakalo launched into “Tierra Trágame,” DannyLux showed his honeyed tone on “Sirena,” and Corenjo closed things out with a grounded performance of “Atención,” putting his vulnerability and melancholy sound on display. —J.L.

Missed the Mark

Pepe Aguilar Doesn’t Quite Nail It
For an awards show that largely got it right spotlighting the future of Latin music, Pepe Aguilar’s traditional charro, ranchera performance felt like a left-field choice, and not exactly a necessary one. After roughly two years of the Aguilars dominating tabloid chatter — from Ángela Aguilar and Christian Nodál’s strange relationship timeline to Pepe’s son Emiliano publicly calling out their estrangement time and again — Pepe’s appearance (with just one nomination, which he ultimately lost to Nodál) landed as a miss. The show would’ve been better served by pairing Aguilar with a younger artist helping evolve the very genre Aguilar is working to preserve. (But handing over the spotlight would’ve been smart for the Aguilar image, even.) —T.M.

How Many Voters Again?
We’re all for the Academy giving us glimpses into how their voting process works and what leads to the decisions of the night. But in nearly every category introduction speech, the hosts and presenters mentioned that “one million voters” had weighed in — to the point where the phrase felt like it lost all meaning by the end of the night. Guys, we get it; there are a lot of voters! —J.L.

We Need More Love For Alt Acts!
It was already a bummer that a new wave of Latin alternative artists, like Mexican trio Latin Mafia, Spanish singer-songwriter Judeline, and artist-producer Rusowsky, didn’t make it into the bigger categories, despite how boundary-pushing their releases were. Still, they were all up for Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Song. Though zany Argentine duo CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso deserved plenty of wins, they snagged both categories, where it would have been nice to see a slightly different energy. Latin Mafia, Judeline, and Rusowsy later met up and took a few photos together, including a cheeky one with everyone flipping off the camera. Maybe this snub might lead to the Latin Mafia, Judeline, and Rusowsky collaboration that we need. —L.V.

OMG!

The Big Sanz Upset
When Alejandro Sanz apologized to Bad Bunny and Karol G for winning Record of the Year, it felt like a reminder that the Latin Grammys can be… kind of old-school. In a category stacked with two of Bad Bunny’s biggest songs, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso’s “#Tetas” and “El Día del Amigo,” and even Liniker’s “Ao Te Lado,” his win suggested the Academy might still be playing it safe with what its older voting base knows best. Part of the problem may have been that multiple nominations in one category meant some of the votes were split, but Sanz’s Record of the Year win was still a shock. —T.M.

Paloma Morphy accepts the Best New Artist award onstage at Latin Grammys.

Paloma Morphy Is Our New Rising Queen
Paloma Morphy took home the Best New Artist award and we’re here for it. In the same vein as Latin Mafia and Nsqk, Paloma Morphy is reshaping the Latin alternative scene with her genre-bending sound. Earlier this week, the Mexico City native shared her reaction to being nominated for Best New Artist with Rolling Stone. “When I started making music, I quit my other job,” she said. “I was doubting if this was something for me. Life is giving me signs that I have made the right choice.” This win is making it clear that Morphy takeover is imminent. —L.V.

Karol Sounds Off
While accepting the award for Song of the Year, Karol G unexpectedly took a moment to address her naysayers. She specifically asked for her microphone not to be cut and then went off. The Colombian superstar then revealed a struggle that she was facing: “This happened during a strange time in my life and the only thing that was left from all of that for me was to go back to the root and the intention and return to the purpose of what I’m doing because I love it, because I like it, and because I was born for this.” —L.V.

Love For Liniker
The Brazilian artist was off to a good night with nods in major categories, like Album of the Year and Record of the Year. But it was especially nice to see that she didn’t get siloed off during the ceremony: Her performance toward the end, just after Elena Rose, felt like a big highlight that shared more of her music and her sound with wider audiences. It was especially poignant to see her represent Brazil and music in Portuguese, given how hard it is for Brazilian acts to break into the industry — and into the ceremony itself. —J.L.

AC/DC Shook Melbourne All Night Long, Scientists Confirm

AC/DC came to rock the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday night, Nov. 12 and the city felt it.

The opening date of AC/DC’s Power Up tour of Australia made waves that were detected by earthquake monitoring equipment, and could be felt, and heard, deep into this former Olympic City.

According to Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Seismology Research Centre, the concert registered in the 2-5 hertz range at their office in Richmond, some 2 miles from the concert at the towering MCG.

That’s enough force for people to feel the ground move.

“The sound waves that people were experiencing nearby and feeling something through their bodies, that’s the equivalent to what our seismographs feel,” Pascale told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. A resident some 6 miles away told the ABC they could hear the concert.

“We’re picking up the ground motion, we’re not picking up the sound from the air,” Pascale added.

“So, you’ve got speakers on the ground pumping out vibrations and that gets transmitted through the ground, but also the crowd jumping up and down is feeding energy into the ground.”

Although AC/DC came to rock, the largest signals received by the Seismology Research Centre were generated by Taylor Swift’s record-busting three-night stand at the MCG in 2024, Pascale remarked.

Stadium rock can move us, literally. Oasis’s now-completed tour of Live ’25 tour of Australia (via Live Nation) generated a “clear uptick in seismic signal” when fans “started pounding the ground” at Marvel Stadium during a show earlier in the month, the center confirmed earlier.

AC/DC doesn’t do things by halves. These latest round of shows require 300 tons of steel to build the production, with 28 tons of PA and speakers pumping out the sound. A crew of 155 are working each show, which consumes 500kw of power every night.

With Angus Young on lead guitar, vocalist Brian Johnson, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug and bass player Chris Chaney, the Rock Hall-inducted legends ripped out the classics at the MCG, including “Back In Black,” “Thunderstruck,” “Hells Bells,” “Riff Raff” and much more.

AC/DC last toured Australia and New Zealand in 2015, the domestic leg of their Rock or Bust world tour. On that visit, Young and Co. shifted more than 520,000 tickets across 11 coast-to-coast dates, including shows in Auckland and Wellington.

Next up, the second of two shows this Sunday (Nov. 16) at the MCG, followed by dates in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

TEG Van Egmond, a division of TEG, is producing AC/DC’s nine-date national tour, with special guests Amyl & The Sniffers.

San Jose’s Not So Silent Night Abruptly Canceled

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

This year was supposed to mark the return of Not So Silent Night, the once-annual modern rock event that went down in the Bay Area each winter holiday season from 1991 to 2019. But today Live 105, the radio station that’s hosted the big gig, announced that Not So Silent Night 2025 has been canceled. No further explanation was provided.

This year’s Not So Silent Night was scheduled for December 14, set to feature Sublime, Evanescence, Wet Leg, the Paradox, and Yellowcard. It would’ve also been the first Not So Silent Night since the broadcasting company Audacy relaunched Live 105 back in 2023; the popular alt-rock station endured a botched rebranding effort, including a pivot to adult hits, before Audacy brought it back to its usual alt-focused format.

“We know this is disappointing news, and we truly regret that we won’t be able to bring the show to you this year,” Live 105 wrote in their announcement.

Unrivaled, TNT Sports Add Fourth Night of Games for 2026 Season

Women’s basketball league Unrivaled is expanding in its second season — both in its number of teams and its TV footprint.

The 3-on-3 league, co-founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, is adding a fourth night of games on TNT Sports for the coming season, which tips off Jan. 5. The league is also expanding to eight teams, up from six for its inaugural season earlier this year.

Games will air on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday throughout the eight-week season; TNT, TruTV and HBO Max will have the Friday and Monday contests, and Saturday and Sunday games will run on TruTV and HBO Max.

The additional night — last season didn’t have games on Sundays — allows Unrivaled to eliminate back-to-back games for its players. In the coming season, four teams will play on Friday and Sunday each week, and the other four will play on Saturday and Monday.

One of the things that I think our players credit us with the most is actually listening to them, and we want to keep them as healthy as humanly possible — not for not just for our league, but for the [WNBA] as well,” Unrivaled chief content officer John Learing told The Hollywood Reporter. “So when they did come to us and say that they would like us to consider ways to find some some some more [breaks in the schedule], it’s what our basketball ops team focused on probably more than anything in the offseason.”

TNT Sports’ Unrivaled telecasts will look somewhat different this season. Learing and TNT Sports executive vp and chief content officer Craig Barry told THR that the league’s purpose-built arena in Miami will feature more fans in the primary camera shots (last season, those shots were mostly of a large video wall) and bringing some more of TNT Sports’ long history televising basketball into the mix.

“We’re making a significantly larger contribution to the overall production presentation, because we want parity across all of our sports properties,” Barry told THR. “Not that it wasn’t good before — it just had room to grow and evolve.”

The changes to the arena setup are part of that, Barry noted: “The interesting thing about a small venue — especially a venue like that, where you have control of [the layout], the energy really is part of the primary driver of the presentation of the event. If you’ve been to that venue, the live energy is totally different while you’re there. The conversations that we’ve had [have focused on] the translation of that energy — we need to see it and feel it more through the screen.”

Unrivaled games averaged 221,000 viewers for TNT and TruTV simulcasts last season — a fraction of NBA or WNBA games on cable but a solid start for an entirely new league with a significantly different format (3-on-3 vs. 5-on-5) from other basketball leagues. Barry said the audience on TNT skewed about 60 percent female, significantly higher than for other women’s sports across linear TV.

“They’re finding their own audience, and they have a voice,” Barry said. “People are liking this product, and they’re going to find this league. That’s very reassuring when you’re creating something and looking for success.”

Unrivaled played all of its games in the 850-seat arena built for the league (and for TV production) last season, but it will on the road for one night in the coming season. On Jan. 30, two games (Breeze vs. Phantom and Rose vs. Lunar Owls) will take place at Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena, home of the NBA’s 76ers. “I think it will be fascinating to see what this looks like in a giant arena,” said Learing.

He also said staying with TNT Sports for season two of Unrivaled was a “no-brainer” for the league. “We always wanted to stay. It made the most sense,” he said. “We’re a brand new league. We’re entering our second season, and I just think that we wanted to uncomplicate the search for our content as much as possible. And we already had the best partner we could imagine.”
