ICE agents to attend Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show, Trump adviser says – National

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be present at the 2026 Super Bowl and Grammy-winning rapper Bad Bunny’s halftime show, longtime Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski warned.

Lewandowski, who serves as an adviser to the Department of Homeland Security as a special government employee, confirmed the news days after it was announced that Bad Bunny would be the halftime show performer.

During an appearance on The Benny Show on Wednesday, Lewandowski was asked by podcast host Benny Johnson if “ICE will have enforcement at the Super Bowl for the Bad Bunny halftime show.”

“There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility and we will deport you,” Lewandowski said.

“So know that is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be.”

CONFIRMED: ICE will be active and on-site at Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance.

Lewandowski went on to criticize the NFL for selecting Bad Bunny as the halftime show performer.

“It’s so shameful they’ve decided to pick somebody who seems to hate America so much to represent them at the halftime show,” Lewandowski said about the three-time Grammy Award-winning performer.

He told Johnson that the NFL should “be trying to be inclusive, not exclusive.”

“There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people who could be playing at that show that would be bringing people together and not separating them,” Lewandowski said.

“If there are illegal aliens, I don’t care if it’s a concert for Johnny Smith or Bad Bunny or anybody else, we’re going to do enforcement everywhere. We are going to make Americans safe. That is a directive from the president.

“If you’re in this country illegally, do yourself a favour, go home. We’ll buy you the plane ticket. Get out of the country and you’ll have a chance to come back legally,” he added.

The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Sunday that Bad Bunny will lead the halftime festivities from Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Puerto Rican superstar’s selection comes amid another career-defining run: He’s fresh off a historic Puerto Rico residency this month that drew more than half a million fans and is leading all nominees at the Latin Grammys in November. He has become one of the world’s most streamed artists with albums such as Un Verano Sin Ti, a Spanish-language LP.

In an interview with I-D last month, Bad Bunny explained that part of the reason he did his Puerto Rico residency and won’t tour in the U.S. this year was because “f—ing ICE could be outside (my concert). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate — I’ve performed there many times,” he added.

“All of (the shows) have been successful. All of them have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the U.S. But specifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an unincorporated territory of the U.S. … people from the U.S. could come here to see the show.”

Is Kneecap banned from Canada or not? NDP urges answer in high-profile case – National

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

The federal immigration minister is facing increasing pressure to clarify whether the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap is indeed banned from entering Canada, or if the Liberal official who announced the move was approved to make that assertion in a contentious social media post.

In a letter to Immigration Minister Lena Diab on Thursday, NDP MP Jenny Kwan, the party’s immigration critic, urged Diab to say whether the group is indeed banned after the minister and other officials have repeatedly refused to answer questions on the case for almost two weeks.

The band says it has yet to receive any official notice about an entry ban or denial of their electronic visa authorizations.

“Canadians and visitors to Canada deserve to know that they are not subject to arbitrary and politicized weaponization of public policy for political purposes,” Kwan wrote.

“We need to rebuild integrity into the system in this time of misinformation.”

Liberal MP Vince Gasparro, the parliamentary secretary for combating crime, announced on Sept. 19 “on behalf of the Government of Canada” that the band’s members had been deemed ineligible for entry ahead of scheduled concerts this month, based “on the advice of our officials.”

Kwan wants Diab to answer if the officials Gasparro referenced are in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and if she or other IRCC officials authorized Gasparro to speak on their behalf publicly.

The letter also asks if Kneecap were ever formally banned from entering Canada or if they are permitted to enter, and if the Prime Minister’s Office or any other government officials or agencies were involved in approving Gasparro’s announcement.

Kwan pressed Diab on some of those questions directly during question period on Thursday, but Diab declined to directly answer.

“If no one authorized it, can the minister advise what formal action will be taken to address this serious misrepresentation of authority? Canadians deserve to know,” Kwan said.

Diab responded by reading nearly verbatim a statement IRCC sent to Global News earlier this week — a message that has evolved in real time — that did not comment on Kneecap’s specific case.

“Persons seeking to come to Canada must meet eligibility and admissibility requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,” Diab said.

“Each case is assessed individually. Entry to Canada may be refused for a number of reasons. Individuals whose electronic travel application has been declined can re-apply by doing an ETA once they address the reasons that it has been refused.”

Should a probe ask whether MP ‘lied?’

Kwan’s letter adds to the pressure on the Liberal government to explain why no further explanation or official notice has been provided to the band or the public since.

Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman told Global News in an interview Wednesday she would support an investigation into whether Gasparro “lied” in announcing the apparent entry ban or if he contradicted official policy.

“I would suspect that in any other workplace you would be reprimanded for that. And in this case, you wouldn’t be a parliamentary secretary anymore,” she said.

A spokesperson for Gasparro’s office said he had “no further comment” in an email Wednesday and deferred questions to IRCC, after making a similar comment last Friday.

Diab did not stop to answer questions from reporters on Kneecap’s case while heading into the Liberal caucus meeting in Ottawa on Wednesday.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree’s office has also deferred questions to IRCC, and the Prime Minister’s Office has not responded to requests for comment.

In his video announcement on Sept. 19, Gasparro cited a U.K. terrorism-related charge against Kneecap member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh as a reason for denying entry to Canada. A British judge tossed out the criminal case last Friday, but no one in the government has said if the apparent entry ban remains in place.

Story continues below advertisement

The charge, which was dismissed after a British court said it had been laid too late, came after authorities had alleged Óg Ó hAnnaidh waved a flag of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah during a London concert last year.

Hezbollah is a listed terrorist organization in both the U.K. and Canada.

Kneecap has accused critics of trying to silence the band because of its support for the Palestinian cause throughout the Israeli military’s destruction of Gaza. The band says it doesn’t support Hezbollah and Hamas, nor condone violence.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and Jewish advocacy organization B’nai Brith Canada, which had advocated for the ban, have praised the government for Gasparro’s announcement.

Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated ‘actor,’ faces Hollywood, celebrity backlash – National

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Hollywood is facing a new kind of star power with “AI actor” Tilly Norwood, who doesn’t exist outside of code — and she’s already negotiating with talent agencies.

Norwood is a character made entirely by artificial intelligence, dubbed Hollywood’s first “AI actor.” She is the product of a company named Xicoia, which bills itself as the world’s first artificial intelligence talent studio.

Since Dutch producer and comedian Eline Van der Velden launched the digital character’s prospective career, Norwood has been the talk of Hollywood.

Earlier this month, Van der Velden, founder of the AI production studio Particle6, promoted Norwood at the Zurich Summit, the industry sidebar of the Zurich Film Festival. She said Norwood was in talks with talent agencies and that she expected to announce a signing soon.

“We were in a lot of boardrooms around February time, and everyone was like, ‘No, this is nothing. It’s not going to happen.’ Then, by May, people were like, ‘We need to do something with you guys,” Van der Velden told Deadline’s Diana Lodderhose.

Story continues below advertisement

“When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’ and now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”

But not everyone is excited about Norwood potentially signing with a talent agency.

In a statement Tuesday, the Screen Actors Guild said that “creativity is, and should remain, human-centered.”

“To be clear, ‘Tilly Norwood’ is not an actor, it’s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation,” the guild said. “It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience.”

“Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this , drop their a$$,” In The Heights actor Melissa Barrera wrote on her Instagram Stories. “How gross, read the room.”

“Any talent agency that engages in this should be boycotted by all guilds. Deeply misguided & totally disturbed,” Natasha Lyonne wrote on Instagram.

Emily Blunt spoke about Norwood during an episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, referring to the idea of an AI actor as “terrifying.”

“Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is,” Blunt said.

When Blunt was shown a photo of Norwood, she said, “No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary. Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.”

Blunt also suggested that Norwood’s creators want her to be “the next Scarlett Johansson.”

“But we have Scarlett Johansson,” she added.

Whoopi Goldberg opened up about her thoughts on Norwood during Monday’s episode of The View.

“The problem with this, in my humble opinion, is that you’re up against something that’s been generated with 5,000 other actors. It’s been given all of these — it’s got Bette Davis’s attitude … it’s got my humour,” she began.

“It’s a little bit of an unfair advantage. But you know what? Bring it on,” Goldberg said. “Because you can always tell them from us.”

In response to the backlash, Van der Velden shared a statement on Norwood’s Instagram, writing, “To those who have expressed anger over the creation of our AI character, Tilly Norwood: she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art.”

“Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity,” Van der Velden continued. “I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool – a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories.”

Van der Velden, who is also an actor, said that nothing can take away “the craft or joy of human performance.”

“Creating Tilly has been, for me, an act of imagination and craftsmanship, not unlike drawing a character, writing a role or shaping performance. It takes time, skill, and iteration to bring such a character to life,” she wrote. “She represents experimentation, not substitution. Much of my work has always been about holding up a mirror to society through satire, and this is no different.”

Story continues below advertisement

Van der Velden said she believes that AI characters should be judged as part of their own genre and on their own merits rather than compared directly with “human actors.”

“Each form of art has its place, and each can be valued for what it uniquely brings. I hope we can welcome AI as part of the wider artistic family: one more way to express ourselves, alongside theatre, film, painting, music, and countless others,” she wrote. “When we celebrate all forms of creativity, we open doors to new voices, new stories, and new ways of connecting with each other.”

Artificial intelligence is often used as a tool in film production, though its implementation is hotly debated. It was a major bargaining point in the lengthy strike by SAG-AFTRA that concluded in late 2023, with some safeguards put in place to protect the use of actors’ likenesses and performances by AI.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant wins $1M, biggest prize in show’s 49 years – National

A woman from Connecticut has made history as the biggest winner in Wheel of Fortune history, earning the right to buy as many vowels as she pleases.

During the Tuesday, Sept. 30 episode, Christina Derevjanik won a cash prize of US$1,035,155 on the game show, making her the fifth Wheel of Fortune contestant who has earned the million-dollar prize and the first since Ryan Seacrest took over hosting duties.

Derevjanik, a marketing manager at Con Edison, first won trips to Montana and Tokyo by solving puzzles to gain $35,155 in cash and prizes. She revealed that her boss was in the studio audience and when Seacrest asked what would happen if she were to win a million dollars, Derevjanik said, “I may be putting in my two weeks [notice] but we won’t tell her that yet.”

Then, in the bonus round, Derevjanik chose the category Living Things and solved the puzzle, which read: “PACK OF COYOTES.”

Seacrest opened the prize envelope and told Derevjanik that she won the million-dollar prize. Vanna White joined the pair, exclaiming, “I’m so happy for you!”

“Congratulations, you’re my first million-dollar winner. I have a tear in my eye,” Seacrest added.

After the episode, Seacrest confirmed to Derevjanik that she was the biggest winner in the show’s 49-year history, according to a statement from Wheel of Fortune.

“I have no words!” she responded. “I’m so happy to be part of history now.”

When asked how much she wanted to win, Derevjanik said, “I was trying to manifest this. I was hoping for confetti, but I never thought it would actually happen.”

During an interview with Good Morning America following her win, Derevjanik revealed that she didn’t put in her two weeks’ notice even though she won the big prize.

“My boss, who is also one of my good friends, she’s actually from L.A. originally, so she came with me and we joked, like, ‘Well, if you win the $1 million, I may be going home by myself in the office, might have to fill your spot,’” Derevjanik said. “So that was just a running joke, never thinking it would ever happen. But yeah, I’m going to be staying at work.”

The $1-million wedge was incorporated into Wheel of Fortune in 2008 at the beginning of Season 26. The top prize of $100,000 is replaced with $1 million if a contestant lands on the wedge, solves the puzzle and never hits a bankrupt after landing on the $1-million wedge.

The first $1-million grand prize was won by Michelle Lowenstein in October 2008, followed by Autumn Erhard in May 2013 and Sarah Manchester in September 2014, according to TV Insider. Actor Melissa Joan Hart also won the $1-million prize during an episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune in October 2021.

Dolly Parton postpones Vegas residency for 1 year due to ‘health challenges’ – National

Dolly Parton has postponed her first Las Vegas residency in 32 years due to “health challenges.”

The country music icon, 79, announced the news in a post on Instagram on Sept. 28, telling fans that she wanted them “to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts.”

“As many of you know, I’ve been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!” she wrote.

“In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you,” the 9 to 5 singer explained.

Parton said that she will still be able to work on all of her projects from Nashville but she needs “a little time to get show ready, as they say.”

She assured fans to not “worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet.”

“But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you,” she added. “I love you and thank you for understanding.”

Parton was scheduled to perform six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for “Dolly: Live in Las Vegas” between Dec. 4 and Dec. 13, overlapping with the National Finals Rodeo. Her dates have been moved to late next year — September 2026.

Earlier this month, Parton was unable to attend the announcement of a new ride at her Tennessee theme park Dollywood due to health issues.

“I had a kidney stone that was causing me a lot of problems, turned out it’d given me an infection and the doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be travelling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better,’” Parton said in a video announcement at the time.

“So, he suggested I not go to Dollywood today, but I’m there with you in spirit. I was looking so forward to it,” she added.

“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He was survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie,” a statement on her Instagram page read.

A quote from Parton was also included. It read, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”

“The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time,” the post added.

Parton also released her new single If You Hadn’t Been There the same month, in honour of her longtime husband.

“I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old. We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together,” Parton wrote.

“Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.”

The United States will impose a 100 per cent tariff on movies made outside the country, along with foreign-made furniture, U.S. President Donald Trump said in a social media post.

However, it is not immediately clear how such tariffs, particularly those on movies, could work.

The “movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries,” Trump said.

Rani Mukerji Recalls Father's Heartbreak Over National Award Snub For Black

Rani Mukerji Recalls Father’s Heartbreak Over National Award Snub For Black

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Rani Mukerji recently opened up about a deeply personal moment in her career—the time she didn’t win the National Award for her performance in Black(2005), despite high expectations. Speaking at an event in Delhi, the actress shared how her father, veteran filmmaker Ram Mukerji, reacted to the outcome, and how it shaped her perspective on fame and recognition.

The critically acclaimed film Black, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, featured Rani in a demanding role as Michelle, a deaf, mute, and blind woman. At just 25 years old, Rani delivered a performance that was widely praised, and many believed she was the frontrunner for the National Award for Best Actress that year.

“There was chatter that I would win,” Rani recalled. “I gave my all in Black. I was just 25 at the time, and I poured everything into that role. But when I didn’t win, that’s when my blinkers came on. I realised that even when you do your best work, things might not always go your way.”

Rani shared that the disappointment wasn’t hers alone. “I have to be honest and tell you that my father was very disappointed. My baba was heartbroken that I didn’t win. So was Sanjay, the director of the film,” she said.

Despite the letdown, Rani emphasized the importance of perspective and timing. “When things are meant to happen, they happen. The way India and my fans cheered for me—it couldn’t have been better than that.”

Black was co-written, directed, and co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ayesha Kapur, Shernaz Patel, and Dhritiman Chatterjee. It was inspired by the life and writings of Helen Keller, focusing on the intense journey of a differently-abled woman and her teacher, who eventually develops Alzheimer’s disease. The film went on to win several National Awards, including Best Actor for Amitabh Bachchan, Best Feature Film in Hindi, and Best Costume Design. However, Rani’s exclusion from the winners’ list was widely discussed at the time.

Fast forward to 2023, Rani finally received her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Directed by Ashima Chibber, the film is inspired by the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian mother who fought against Norwegian child welfare services to reunite with her children in 2011.

Reflecting on her long journey, Rani said that awards are not always the final measure of an artist’s worth. “It’s about the connection you make with your audience and the impact your work leaves behind,” she noted.

Looking ahead, Rani is set to return to the big screen in a bold, action-packed role with Mardaani 3. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, the third instalment of the popular Mardaani franchise is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026. The film promises to showcase Rani once again as the fierce and determined cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, a character that has already earned her widespread acclaim.

Rani’s journey, marked by highs and lows, stands as a testament to her resilience and unwavering dedication to her craft. Her story not only reflects the unpredictable nature of awards and recognition but also highlights the emotional investments made by artists and their families behind the scenes.

Jimmy Kimmel’s show returning to all remaining ABC stations, companies say – National

Two U.S. companies will allow Jimmy Kimmel Live! to return to their ABC stations’ airwaves Friday, ending a brief boycott launched after the show’s return.

In a statement posted on social media, Sinclair Broadcast Group said Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return to all of its 38 ABC affiliate stations effective Sept. 26.

“Over the last week, we have received thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives,” Sinclair said in the statement.

The company also said it noticed “troubling acts of violence,” referencing the shooting into the lobby of a Sacramento ABC station last Friday.

“These events underscore why responsible broadcasting matters and why respectful dialogue between differing voices remains so important,” Sinclair added.

A short time later, Nexstar Media Group said it would also return Kimmel’s show to its 28 ABC affiliate stations beginning Friday night.

“We have had discussions with executives at The Walt Disney Company and appreciate their constructive approach to addressing our concerns,” the company said in a statement.

“As a local broadcaster, Nexstar remains committed to protecting the First Amendment while producing and airing local and national news that is fact-based and unbiased and, above all, broadcasting content that is in the best interest of the communities we serve.”

Kimmel was allowed to return to work, and hosted the show again on Sept. 23 after the network said it had “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel.

Both Sinclair and Nexstar said this week they would continue to keep Kimmel off their ABC airwaves despite the return, but said they remained in conversations with ABC and Disney.

“In our ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen accountability, viewer feedback, and community dialogue, including a network-wide independent ombudsman,” Sinclair said Friday.

It noted the company has yet to adopt those measures.

ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! completely on Sept. 17 after the namesake host made comments during a broadcast about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The suspension was announced shortly after Nexstar and Sinclair said they would pre-empt Kimmel’s show.

Brendan Carr, chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, suggested earlier that same day that companies should take action against Kimmel over his comments “or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr added, comments that Democrats and other critics have said amounted to government pressure on affiliate stations, ABC and Disney.

United States President Donald Trump has been openly critical of the late-night host in the past, among others, and has previously suggested putting pressure on networks to have their shows cancelled.

“Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They’re next. They’re going to be going. I hear they’re going to be going. I don’t know, but I would imagine because they’d get — you know, Colbert has better ratings than Kimmel or Fallon,” Trump said.

In its statement, Sinclair said its earlier decision to pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel Live! was done without government pressure.

“Our decision to pre-empt this program was independent of any government interaction or influence,” it said.

Nexstar also insisted its decisions were made due to its commitment “to be stewards of the public airwaves and to protect and reflect the specific sensibilities of our communities.”

“To be clear, our commitment to those principles has guided our decisions throughout this process, independent of any external influence from government agencies or individuals,” the company’s statement said.

Nexstar last month announced a $6.2 billion deal to buy TEGNA Inc., which owns 64 other TV stations.

The deal would require the FCC to change rules limiting the number of stations a single company can own. Carr has expressed openness to changing the rule.

Sinclair has also petitioned the FCC to relax its rules limiting broadcaster ownership of stations.

Kimmel has referenced the decision to not air his show on some stations since returning to ABC this week.

“We are broadcasting to about 75 per cent of the country from Los Angeles, California, tonight,” he said in his monologue Thursday night.

He noted next week’s shows will be taking place in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“What we have to do now is stay on the move so the FCC can’t get us,” he joked.

“I hope it’s a girl. I really do. We’re praying for a girl,” he told the outlet. “Our first time, we wanted to know the sex of the baby. The second time, we didn’t want to know. Third time, we don’t want to know until, you know.”

“I feel like it’s going to be a girl. This pregnancy is so different from the other two. You can tell from the experience. I hope it’s a baby girl, man. I need that.”
