Where was The Sunshine Murders filmed? 5 crime drama location guide

If you’re looking for a new cosy crime series to get stuck into, The Sunshine Murders might be one for you.

The drama, now available to stream on My5, follows an unlikely crime fighting duo made up of two sisters who have never met before.

The series kicks off with Shirley (Emily Corcoran), a farmer from New Zealand, travelling to Athens and meeting her half-sister, detective Helen (Dora Chrysikou). The pair soon develop and unlikely way of solving crime, aided by Peter Andre’s pathologist, Dr George Constantinos.

The series is set amidst the backdrop of the Mediterranean, offering a sunny escape as audiences enter the winter months.

“We needed to find a location that gave that really great level of escapism and the variety and diversity for the audience at home who may be sitting in the living room while it’s raining outside,” creator Emily Corcoran told RadioTimes.com and other press.

So, where was The Sunshine Murders filmed? Scroll on to find out more.

The Sunshine Murders was filmed across several locations in the Mediterranean and in the UK.

The sun-soaked mystery was set in New Zealand, Greece and Cyprus, with filming taking place in the latter two countries and in the United Kingdom.

Read on for a breakdown of some of the filming locations in The Sunshine Murders.

Paphos, Cyprus

The final two episodes of The Sunshine Murders were filmed in Paphos in Cyprus, specifically Asimina Suites Hotel, a luxury five star-property part of the Constantinou Bros Hotels.

“It was an honour to welcome the production of The Sunshine Murders to our hotel,” said Aristos Diomedous, general manager, on behalf of Constantinou Bros Hotels. “Partnerships like this not only showcase this superb property but also highlight Cyprus as a world-class filming and holiday destination.”

In addition to the three key cast members, Stephanie Beacham, Camilla Rutherford, Nina Wadia, Marina Sirtis, Alexander Vlahos and Nick Moran all featured in the episodes filmed in Cyprus.

Larnaca, Cyprus

When not filmed in the hotel, the production explored Cyprus further, especially when a “murder” took place.

Corcoran explained that as part of the agreement to film in Asimina Suites Hotel, no one was allowed to be fictionally killed, and so the crew filmed near a cliffside in Larnaca.

She told RadioTimes.com and other press of choosing Cyprus as a filming location: “Initially, I gravitated towards Cyprus for more practical reasons, which is becoming much more common now in television. Like many TV shows, well more and more, we are independently financed, so we’re an independent production, and so we have to kind of find ways to piece the financing together. And it was fairly modestly budgeted as well.

“And we found the Cypriots in general to be extremely enthusiastic, and all of the local businesses as well were.”

The Sunshine Murders is available to watch on My5.

Midsomer Murders on stage review | A killer debut for a classic drama

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

A star rating of 5 out of 5.

28 years after it first launched on our TV screens, Midsomer Murders makes a thrilling stage debut.

Retaining all the heart of the beloved TV show, writer and director Guy Unsworth welcomes you to the county of Midsomer with a brand-new look at the episode and book that started it all: The Killings at Badger’s Drift.

The play takes place when well-loved spinster Emily Simpson is found dead and her friend Lucy Bellringer refuses to accept it was an accident. DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy are called in to investigate, uncovering a world of hidden passions, long-buried secrets and deadly rivalries.

Leading the cast is Daniel Casey, the original DS Gavin Troy, who has been promoted to DCI Tom Barnaby. In an interview with Radiotimes.com, Casey admitted feeling a little “daunted” and “a little bit trepidatious” about the role, but he takes on the mantel left by John Nettles with ease.

Casey brings a quiet authority and warmth in the part that helps to ground the play. He’s the calming presence in the manicured wilderness of Midsomer, giving the audience a steady guide throughout.

Surrounding him is an assortment of eclectic characters, all expertly played by a handful of supporting cast; most of whom are playing two or three roles. It was quite a surprise to realise how few actors there were when the show ended.

Daniel Casey (Barnaby), James Bradwell (Troy) & Rupert Sadler (Dennis Rainbird) in The Killings at Badger’s Drift. Manuel Harlan

Barnaby’s protégé, DS Troy, is now played by James Bradwell; delivering the same bad-driving and conclusion jumping fans of the show would be expecting. While the play is scattered with funny moments, Bradwell shows up for a lot of them; whether he’s the butt of the joke or simply being an over-eager detective, he offers up that touch of lightness the show is known for.

Casey told us in the run up that “if you’re a fan of the television series, you’re going to love the play”. As one of those said fans, it truly felt like I was watching an episode in action. The staging rolls between cottages to manors to murder scenes in seconds. It creates the feeling of escapism the TV show is known for. Accompanying this is a familiar score that brings tension and warmth throughout each scene, underscoring the mystery, the brutality and the quintessential English charm that its famous for.

More than anything, Midsomer Murders delivers exactly what theatre goers could hope for: a sharp, thoroughly entertaining whodunnit. It’s two hours of intrigue and charm that keeps you guessing until the very end. Just don’t be too confident you’ll solve it before DCI Barnaby.

‘Only Murders In The Building’ Boss Talks Season 5 Finale Murder

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals major plot points from Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building‘s Season 5 finale.

Another season of Hulu’s hit comedy Only Murders in the Building has come to a close. Before discussing what’s ahead for the newly announced sixth season, there’s so much to discuss regarding Lester’s (Teddy Coluca) murder.

So who killed the Arconia’s beloved doorman? The murderer was revealed to be Mayor Beau Tillman, played by Season 5 guest star Keegan-Michael Key. He had plenty to gain from Camila White’s (Renée Zellweger) purchase of the building to turn it into a casino. There was a lot of money to be made, and an alliance with the New York City Mayor would certainly make things a lot easier, especially while cutting through red tape. It’s also great for the Mayor to be friendly with people with a lot of money, who can help support his campaign financially. One hand washes the other.

From Season 5, Episode 1, there were always two murders to figure out: Lester’s and Nicky Caccimelio’s (Bobby Cannavale), the wanna be mob boss who, alongside his family, owned a chain of dry cleaners, including one located at the Arconia.

In the Season 4 finale, Nicky’s wife, Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), sought out Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) for help locating her missing husband. This season, the audience learns that Nicky is dead, and it’s revealed in the finale that Lester killed him while defending the tenants at his beloved Arconia.

A flashback showed what all went down that infamous night at the Arconia’s casino that left two bodies without life. A preoccupied Nicky sat around the poker table, alongside Camila, Bash (Christoph Waltz), Jay (Logan Lerman), the Mayor, and Lester, when a text came in. Someone sent Nicky photos of his wife, Sofia, making out with the problematic Mayor. Although Nicky and Sofia’s relationship had cooled, Nicky was furious to learn his wife had stepped out on him and with whom. After doing a line of coke, Nicky takes a clever and the Mayor’s finger. Yes, the same one that appeared in Oliver’s seafood in a prior episode.

Fed up with Nicky’s dramatics, Lester uses his elevator crank and whacks the former hard in the back of his neck. Lester announces to the room that for years, he’s been taking notes of all the criminal activity and threatens to reveal all to the cops. Nicky grabs a handful of pages from Lester’s ledger and starts to eat them, getting rid of some evidence. Nicky and Lester struggle for the cleaver, which ends up embedded in the former’s chest, causing his death.

Mr. Mayor is arguing with Lester about his missing appendage, and chases him to the fountain, where the latter dies. The Mayor, in his attempt to get his finger from Lester, throws the doorman into the fountain, where he hits his head and dies.

Only Murders in the Building co-creator John Hoffman broke down the events of the finale, killing off Cinda Canning, played by Tina Fey, and moving the show to London.

Teddy Coluca as Lester Coluca in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building‘s Season 5 finale

DEADLINE: Before we get to the big stuff, I want to call you out for tricking us about Paul Rudd being in the finale. [Laughs] I watched the episode twice, looking for him before I realized he was Lester’s voiceover. Can we expect to see—or hear him— in every season moving forward?

JOHN HOFFMAN: [Laughs] I know it’s tricky. God, I would love it, because I will never get sick of Paul Rudd. It’s one of my favorite things, and his too, more famously, but a running joke he likes. We’re all family now, so it’s very sweet to be able to find ways to incorporate family, whether their characters are dead or alive, or anything in between. If you’re in it, you’re in it.

DEADLINE: Speaking of family, we may have lost Lester, but he went out like a hero defending the Arconia and the residents. How did you plan all the elements of this resolution?

HOFFMAN: The complication this year was understanding the position that we wanted Lester to be in within that situation, which was a crime of passion and not something he planned. It’s not some didactic or even short-term planning. So who’s in the room, who’s in that gaming parlor? What do they all want? What all happens that screws up everything? How do they then react afterward, to keep what they want in their sights and maintain, switch around, and cover up, and do whatever they need to do? For those in power, that tends to be what can happen.

DEADLINE: Having grown up watching Steve Martin and Martin Short films, you know how much I love silly comedy. There was a lot of that in the Season 5 finale. I particularly loved the moment when Bash asks Charles to pull his finger. Who wrote this episode? They deserve a promotion.

HOFFMAN: The episode was written by Ben Smith and J. J. Philbin. I’m glad that you liked that one, I did, too. I loved seeing the Caccimelio brothers back there, because that’s a joke they’ve had since they were 2.

DEADLINE: We are closing out on Season 5, and the core trio are old pros by now. There was major confidence from Mabel when she figured out that the Mayor killed Lester, and she chopped off his fake finger.

HOFFMAN: She was done. She was like, “That’s it. I’m sick of these power players. I’m sick of Jay playing it the way he is.” I love that line that she had at the end of Episode 9, where she tells Jay, “You want to make the world a better place, stop making it worse.” She’s at her breaking point. She’s lost everything before, so she’s got nothing to lose, and she’s sick of it. Then she starts putting it together. It’s crazy, Rosy, that our show is airing in the middle of the mayoral race in New York. It’s bonkers. Mabel represents a lot of people who are also sick of it.

DEADLINE: You guys also joined the conversation about casinos in New York, which is also a real thing.

HOFFMAN: Definitely. There were headlines back before we started the writers’ room, all about bids for a casino. There were three plans that we all looked at that were major, major bids for these casinos. It was angling from all of these different sides: who was going to get that bid? Where was it going to be, and what would that do to New York? That was all very much in our heads.

DEADLINE: The show was just renewed, and you’ve already got us excited about next season, which will investigate Cinda Canning’s death. Does this mean we will have a lot of Tina Fey?

HOFFMAN: After that three-month jump in the episode, it’s always that vacuum of like for a trio looking at, you know, what now? What next? Where do we go? And all of that. The character of Cinda started everything, so we’re going back to the beginning. So the nature of what she’s doing, what she is doing over in England, doing this thing now, why? I got to know more about it, and it’s an opportunity to tease something that opens up a whole new mystery in the home of the cozy murder mystery, which felt very exciting.

Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and Logan Lerman

DEADLINE: That bit when her body is found dead, only she was still alive enough to touch the gates of the Arconia, so her death was technically in the building, really made me laugh.

HOFFMAN: I will tell you, Steve Martin pitched that to us, and it was his idea. I just loved it, and we’ve had it for a little while. It was such a blast to see the moment come to life.

DEADLINE: The idea that the show will be shooting in London must be very exciting.

HOFFMAN: London is New York’s sister city. There will be all sorts of connectors. We will take our storytelling and steep it into this new culture and our trio will be fish in new waters.

DEADLINE: So, will you be shooting in London and New York?

HOFFMAN: No, just in London.

DEADLINE: Don’t take this the wrong way, but I was hoping Howard would die this season.

HOFFMAN: Why Howard?

DEADLINE: Michael is a fantastic actor, and those scenes between Howard and his mother were really touching. I selfishly wanted to learn more about Howard and his journey. I instantly changed my mind about wanting him offed when I saw his new hunk.

HOFFMAN: Yes, exactly. He got Vinny Caccimelio (Evan Mulrooney). [Laughs]

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Renewed for Season 6 at Hulu

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

The murders will continue, but in a different building (sort of).

Hulu has renewed Only Murders in the Building for a sixth season, with a big change in locale. After five seasons of solving cases in New York (with a trip to California in season four), the show will film in London for season six. The renewal comes hours after the season five finale premiered on Hulu.

The show’s central mystery-solving trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez (who are also executive producers of the series) are set to return for season six. And as is usually the case with Only Murders, the final moments of season five served to set up the new installment — and (no spoilers here) managed to keep the “Building” part of the show’s title in play.

Only Murders in the Building continues to be one of Hulu’s better-performing shows. Season five premiered Sept. 9, and the series returned to Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series chart for the premiere week and the following week, racking up just more than a billion viewing minutes over that time. (It fell out of the top 10 in the most recent rankings, for the week of Sept. 22-28.)

John Hoffman and Martin created the series, which comes from 20th Television. Hoffman serve as showrunner and executive produces with Martin, Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith and JJ Philbin.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Finale Explained

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

In the end, Beau shoved Lester into a fountain, causing him to fatally hit his head. And while the doorman attempted to let Mabel, Oliver and Charles know who had done it, his phone’s autocorrect prevented the message from coming across.

Upon this discovery, Beau attempted to keep the gang from revealing his secrets by locking them in a secret room ahead of a scheduled demolition for the Arconia. However, they ultimately were able to escape and get the news out there, leading to his arrest and, temporarily, saving the building from being destroyed.

But, as with every Arconia mystery, all’s well ends with murder. At the end of the episode, Mabel, Oliver and Charles took a break from all the chaos by revisiting Cinda Canning’s crime podcast from the very first season, eagerly following along with a story of a red-haired woman from the U.K. who was wrongfully accused of killing a royal heir.

Another Gilgo Beach Murders Docuseries Comes to Amazon

by jummy84 October 8, 2025

In case Netflix’s Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, Peacock’s The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets, Hulu’s Truth and Lies: The Hunted, Liz Garbus’s Lost Girls (2020), multiple A&E shows, random Nightline and 20/20 episodes, and countless podcasts and YouTube were not enough Gilgo Beach serial killer content for you, Prime Video has you covered.

On Tuesday, Amazon’s Prime Video ordered its own docuseries about the Gilgo Beach serial killer, Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders. Emma Cooper (Depp v Heard) will direct the series, produced by Nacelle Company and Empress Films.

If you haven’t caught onto this true-crime story yet, here’s the backstory, in Prime Video’s own words: “From 1996 to 2011, Gilgo Beach, New York, became the haunting site where 11 bodies were discovered, their deaths shrouded in mystery with no suspects identified. This chilling series unravels one of the most notorious unsolved crimes of our era, now taking a turn as a  major suspect heads to trial. With unprecedented access, the inside story delves into the depths of this horrific case, exploring the mind of an individual capable of the unthinkable, while unveiling the systemic failures that allowed him to slip through the cracks. With new exclusive insights and compelling questions, this series ultimately serves as a testament to give voice to the voiceless in a case that has confounded investigators and finally aims to provide long-awaited answers to a true mystery of our time.”

“Working on this story has been a profound privilege,” Cooper said in a statement. “To sit with the families, to hear their voices, and to witness the tireless commitment of law enforcement has offered an insight that is as heartbreaking as it is vital. Ultimately this is their story, and I am deeply grateful to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust and support in allowing me to tell it with honesty and care.

“Sharing the powerful stories of the victims’ families has been both humbling and profoundly moving for everyone involved,” added Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios. “We feel incredibly fortunate to partner with our talented director, Emma Cooper, and her outstanding team at Empress Films for helping us bring this exceptional docuseries to Prime Video audiences around the world. We’re also deeply grateful to our colleagues at The Nacelle Company for their collaboration.”

Brian Volk-Weiss, Cisco Henson, Matt Ochacher and Phil Donlon will executive produce for Nacelle Company. The series is executive produced by Cooper under her Empress Films banner. Eben Davidson will also executive produce.

Suspect Identified in HBO’s ‘The Yogurt Shop Murders’ Doc Case

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Police named a dead man Friday as a new suspect in the 1991 unsolved killings of four teenage girls at an Austin yogurt shop, saying DNA evidence led to a “significant breakthrough” in the brutal crime that has haunted Texas’ capital and stumped investigators for decades.

In a statement, Austin police said DNA tests led investigators to Robert Eugene Brashers, who died by suicide in 1999 during a standoff with law enforcement. He has since then been linked to several killings and rape in other states.

The announcement came amid renewed attention on the case with the release last month of The Yogurt Shop Murders, an HBO documentary series. Police said the case remains open and scheduled a Monday news conference to detail their findings.

The murders stunned Texas’ capital city and became known as one of the area’s most notorious crimes. Austin police investigators and prosecutors had stumbled over the case for years as they waded through thousands of leads, several false confessions and badly damaged evidence from the burned-out crime scene.

“Our team never gave up working this case,” Austin police said.

Amy Ayers, 13; Eliza Thomas, 17; and sisters Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, ages 17 and 15, were bound, gagged and shot in the head at the “I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt” store where two of them worked. The building was then set on fire.

Investigators have said that around closing time, someone entered the store through the back door, attacked the girls and set the fire. The bodies were found when firefighters were still battling the blaze.

The autopsy report offered glimpses of the lives of teenage sisters and friends: Ayers wore small, white earrings. Sarah Harbison was wearing a gold necklace and a Mickey Mouse watch. Jennifer Harbison wore a high school ring and a Timex watch.

It also suggested the horror: their hands were tied with underwear and mouths were gagged with cloth. Ayers was shot twice.

In 1999, authorities arrested four men on murder charges. Two of them, Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott, were teenagers at the time of the murders. They initially confessed and implicated each other. But both men quickly recanted and said their statements were made under pressure by police.

Still both were tried and convicted. Initially Springsteen was sent to death row, but his sentence was then reduced to life in prison.

Their convictions were overturned and they were set for retrial a decade later.

A judge ordered both men freed in 2009 when prosecutors said new DNA tests that weren’t available in 1991 had revealed another male suspect.

In 2018, Missouri authorities said DNA evidenced linked Brashers to the strangulation of a South Carolina woman in 1990, and the shooting of a mother and daughter in Missouri in 1998. The evidence also connected him to the 1997 rape of a 14-year-old girl in Tennessee.

Brashers died in 1999 when he shot himself during an hours-long standoff with police at a motel in Kennett, Missouri.

Yogurt Shop Murders Solved After 34 Years Thanks To DNA Testing

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Investigators believe they have finally solved the infamous and gruesome 1991 killings of four teenage girls an Austin frozen yogurt shop, known as “The Yogurt Shop Murders,” after 34 years.

On Friday, the Austin Police Department announced that it has identified suspect Robert Eugene Brashers through “a wide range of DNA testing.” Brashers, who has previously been linked to three other murders throughout the 1990s as well as the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 1997, died by suicide after a standoff with police over a separate alleged crime in 1999.

“Our team never gave up working this case. For almost 34 years they have worked tirelessly and remained committed to solving this case for the families of Jennifer Harbison, Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers, all innocent lives taken senselessly and far too soon,” the police department wrote in its statement Friday, adding: “This remains an open and ongoing investigation.”

This is quite a breakthrough in the case, which gripped the nation and traumatized the city of Austin. The news comes just about a month after HBO rolled out a four-part docuseries shining a renewed light on the murders.

Over the course of four episodes, director Margaret Brown simultaneously unwound all the twists and turns of the 34-year-old cold case while also primarily focusing on the lasting trauma felt by the surviving family members who have tried to make peace with such an unimaginable loss.

RELATED: 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming

In the documentary, and in an interview with Deadline in August, Austin detective Dan Jackson indicated that the police department may be on the path to a breakthrough thanks to advancements in DNA technology.

The lead involved a very small sample of DNA from a vaginal swab of one of the victims, which had remained unidentified until now. Y-STR tests performed on that small amount of DNA were instrumental in overturning the convictions against the prior suspects and did not match anyone known to have been at the crime scene, including investigators.

DNA testing technology has rapidly advanced since 1991, and Jackson alluded that he believed it could soon be possible to build a much more vivid DNA profile with the amount that they have left from that swab. At the time of the murders, that would not have even been fathomable.

“We’re cautiously optimistic about what we can do,” Jackson told Deadline at the time.

Meet the new cast of Only Murders in the Building Season 5: Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz and more

Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building is here, and the Arconia has fresh faces. The Hulu hit dropped its first three episodes on September 9, kicking off another round of chaos for Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez). This time, the victim is close to home – beloved doorman Lester, played by Teddy Coluca. His death in the courtyard fountain pulls the trio back into sleuth mode.

“Our beloved doorman has a hold of a large amount of tenants in our buildings’ secrets,” co-creator John Hoffman told Decider last year. “We really are dipping our toe into a New York City in season 5 that feels particularly ripped from the headlines in certain ways that we’ve not done before,” he added.

Returning players include Meryl Streep, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Nathan Lane, Richard Kind, Michael Cyril Creighton, and Téa Leoni. But it’s the newcomers that have people talking.

Renée Zellweger leads the new arrivals

Renée Zellweger plays Camila White, a powerful billionaire tied to the city’s hospitality world. In the trailer, she drops a chilling line: “The easiest way to win is to make your opponent think they’re playing a different game entirely.”

Christoph Waltz joins as Bash Steed, a tech mogul whose sudden interest in the Arconia raises suspicion. Logan Lerman rounds out the trio of billionaires as Jay Pflug, heir to a pharmaceutical empire. “This is the new mob of New York! These people could be killers,” Oliver declares in the preview.

The list does not stop there. Keegan-Michael Key steps in as embattled Mayor Tillman. Jermaine Fowler plays Randall, the doorman reluctantly promoted after Lester’s death. Beanie Feldstein appears as Althea – or “Thé” – Mabel’s estranged childhood friend turned pop star. Bobby Cannavale shows up as mob-tied Nicky Caccimelio, while Dianne Wiest plays Lester’s widow, Lorraine.

A mix of comedy, star power, and suspicion

According to People, the season weaves in corruption, celebrity, and old rivalries alongside the murder mystery. Feldstein’s flashy pop star clashes with Mabel. Cannavale’s mobster raises red flags after a fight with Lester. Wiest delivers heart as the grieving wife with her late husband’s secrets.

The newcomers expand an already stacked cast while keeping the series’ balance of humor and tension intact. With Streep, Zellweger, Waltz, and Wiest sharing the screen, season 5 leans even harder into prestige casting.

Hoffman called Wiest’s addition a personal thrill, telling Parade he “couldn’t believe” she said yes. Five seasons in, the Arconia still has secrets – and now even more suspects.
