Texas man indicted on murder charge in shooting of ‘King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss

HOUSTON — A grand jury in Texas has indicted the man accused of killing “King of the Hill” voice actor Jonathan Joss on a murder charge.

Texas man indicted on murder charge in shooting of ‘King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss

But it is unclear whether Joss’ killing will be considered a hate crime. Police in San Antonio did not immediately return an email seeking comment Wednesday on whether its investigation had determined that Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in his shooting, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the matter.

Police allege Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, confronted Joss and his husband on June 1 as they were checking their mail at their San Antonio home, which had been burned down in January.

Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has claimed the person who killed the actor yelled “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire.

Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys did not immediately return emails seeking comment Wednesday.

In June, Alfonso Otero, one of Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys, said his client was innocent and denied making any homophobic statements.

The grand jury returned the indictment Monday, and Ceja Alvarez remains free on a $200,000 bond.

A friend of the 59-year-old Joss has said that Joss and Ceja Alvarez were neighbors and the two had argued for years.

Initially, San Antonio police had said there was no evidence indicating the shooting was related to Joss’ sexual orientation. But San Antonio Police Chief William McManus later walked back that statement, saying it had been “premature” and that whether Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in the shooting was “part of the investigation.”

The district attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday that Ceja Alvarez “is charged with murder, which is the most serious charge applicable to this crime under Texas law. As the case is still pending, no additional details or information can be released at this time.”

Under Texas law, a hate crime — if there’s a conviction — would be handled as an enhancement during sentencing and not as a separate charge.

Joss was the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American character on the popular “King of the Hill” animated series, which ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2008. A reboot of the show, which Joss had already worked on, premiered in August.

Joss also had a recurring role on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” playing Chief Ken Hotate. He appeared in two episodes of the series “Tulsa King” in 2022.

When Vijayta Pandit said Sulakshana Pandit ‘has no idea’ about their sister Sandhya Pandit’s murder even after a decade

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Vijayta Pandit once shared how her sister, the late Sulakshana Pandit, didn’t know about the murder of their sibling Sandhya Pandit even after a decade. Speaking with Lehren Retro, last year, Vijayta had revealed that if Sulakshana found out, she would “die that very moment.” Sandhya, also the sister of music composer duo Jatin-Lalit, went missing in 2012, and her partial skeleton was found nearly a month later.

Vijayta Pandit recently spoke about her sisters, Sulakshana Pandit and Sandhya Pandit.

Sulakshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit’s sister was murdered

Vijayta Pandit had spoken about how they found Sandhya’s “bones scattered in different places.” She had said, “She (Sandhya) was murdered. We never thought that all of a sudden something like this could happen. She was quite happy in her marriage… I don’t know what happened. We never even found her, we found her skeleton. First her family said she has gone missing, so we used to go, me and my brothers Lalit and Jatin, to look for her everywhere. After a long time, they found her bones scattered in different places. It was a very big thing.”

When Vijayta revealed why Sulakshana didn’t know about Sandhya’s death

She had added, “And you won’t believe it, Sulakshana ji, even till today, has no idea that our sister is no more. Can you believe this? This is the first time I am saying this. I never told her because if she finds out, she will die that very moment. I keep telling her that our sister is fine, she lives in Indore, and that she calls me too. Sulakshana thinks she is alive, she asks me to send her love to our sister as she doesn’t use a mobile phone. I swear on God, I have to keep up with the act even to this day.”

More about the case

In 2021, The Indian Express reported that Sandhya’s son Raghuveer Singh was acquitted of all charges of murdering her in 2012. A Thane sessions court said that the prosecution could not establish anything except the fact that the accused was addicted to alcohol and had enmity with his mother.

About Sulakshana, her career as a singer-actor

Sulakshana died on Thursday evening after a prolonged illness, her family said. She was 71. Her last rites was performed on Friday at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.

She is best known for crooning Bekrar Dil Tu Gaye Ja, and Somwar Ko Hum Mile Mangalwar Ko Nain with legendary Kishore Kumar. Her track Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein with music icon Mohammed Rafi was also loved by many. The duo together created several musical gems such as Sona Re Tujhe Kaise Miloon, Yeh Pyara Lage Tera Chehra, Jab Aati Hogi Yaad Meri and Yeh Pyar Kiya Hai. She also sang Saat Samundar Paar duet with legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Sulakshana began her cinematic journey with the 1975 release Uljhan, where she starred opposite the legendary Sanjeev Kumar. Her other film credits include Hera Pheri (1976), Dharam Kanta (1982), Do Waqt Ki Roti (1988), and Goraa (1987), among others.

South Carolina man Michael Thomas Lloyd will serve life in prison for killing 6-year-old Winston Hunter in a 2022 shooting. Gunshots rang out on May 13, 2022, hitting Hunter’s home and taking his life moments later.

Details On Winston Hunter’s Tragic Passing

According to PEOPLE, on Oct. 14, Michael Thomas Lloyd pleaded guilty to the May 2022 drive-by shooting, which claimed the life of 6-year-old Winston Hunter. Two other men involved, Jeremiah Harley and Ethan Anderson, also admitted to the murder in 2024 and are now serving life sentences without parole. Lloyd and his crew allegedly fired at least 21 bullets into Winston Hunter’s home. Winston was lying on the couch watching TV when gunfire reportedly struck him in the head and wrist. First responders arrived shortly after, but found Winston dead at the scene. Prosecutors said Lloyd confessed to opening fire on the home because he thought it belonged to a drug dealer. Investigators recovered three firearms during the case, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed the weapons matched the shell casings found at the scene.

Here’s How Cops Tracked Down The Men Behind The Deadly Shooting

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that showed a light-colored sedan speeding to and from the neighborhood around the time of the shooting. After the video circulated publicly, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from law enforcement in Ontario County, New York. Officers there pulled over a car that matched the description and detained two suspects, per WLTX.

Winston’s Family Breaks Silence During Michael Thomas Lloyd’s Sentencing

According to ABC News 4, Winston’s mother, Courtney Hunter, opened up about her son’s tragic death. She told the courtroom during Michael Thomas Lloyd’s sentencing that losing her baby has left her heartbroken. “We’ll never be able to spend time or make memories with him again,” Courtney reportedly said. In addition, 911 calls captured Courtney screaming after the shooting, saying, “They shot my baby.” Furthermore, Courtney added that the only graduation photo she will ever have of Winston was from his kindergarten graduation, which was allegedly taken just six days before he was killed in the shooting.

‘Only Murders In The Building’ Boss Talks Season 5 Finale Murder

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals major plot points from Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building‘s Season 5 finale.

Another season of Hulu’s hit comedy Only Murders in the Building has come to a close. Before discussing what’s ahead for the newly announced sixth season, there’s so much to discuss regarding Lester’s (Teddy Coluca) murder.

So who killed the Arconia’s beloved doorman? The murderer was revealed to be Mayor Beau Tillman, played by Season 5 guest star Keegan-Michael Key. He had plenty to gain from Camila White’s (Renée Zellweger) purchase of the building to turn it into a casino. There was a lot of money to be made, and an alliance with the New York City Mayor would certainly make things a lot easier, especially while cutting through red tape. It’s also great for the Mayor to be friendly with people with a lot of money, who can help support his campaign financially. One hand washes the other.

From Season 5, Episode 1, there were always two murders to figure out: Lester’s and Nicky Caccimelio’s (Bobby Cannavale), the wanna be mob boss who, alongside his family, owned a chain of dry cleaners, including one located at the Arconia.

In the Season 4 finale, Nicky’s wife, Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), sought out Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) for help locating her missing husband. This season, the audience learns that Nicky is dead, and it’s revealed in the finale that Lester killed him while defending the tenants at his beloved Arconia.

A flashback showed what all went down that infamous night at the Arconia’s casino that left two bodies without life. A preoccupied Nicky sat around the poker table, alongside Camila, Bash (Christoph Waltz), Jay (Logan Lerman), the Mayor, and Lester, when a text came in. Someone sent Nicky photos of his wife, Sofia, making out with the problematic Mayor. Although Nicky and Sofia’s relationship had cooled, Nicky was furious to learn his wife had stepped out on him and with whom. After doing a line of coke, Nicky takes a clever and the Mayor’s finger. Yes, the same one that appeared in Oliver’s seafood in a prior episode.

Fed up with Nicky’s dramatics, Lester uses his elevator crank and whacks the former hard in the back of his neck. Lester announces to the room that for years, he’s been taking notes of all the criminal activity and threatens to reveal all to the cops. Nicky grabs a handful of pages from Lester’s ledger and starts to eat them, getting rid of some evidence. Nicky and Lester struggle for the cleaver, which ends up embedded in the former’s chest, causing his death.

Mr. Mayor is arguing with Lester about his missing appendage, and chases him to the fountain, where the latter dies. The Mayor, in his attempt to get his finger from Lester, throws the doorman into the fountain, where he hits his head and dies.

Only Murders in the Building co-creator John Hoffman broke down the events of the finale, killing off Cinda Canning, played by Tina Fey, and moving the show to London.

Teddy Coluca as Lester Coluca in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building‘s Season 5 finale

DEADLINE: Before we get to the big stuff, I want to call you out for tricking us about Paul Rudd being in the finale. [Laughs] I watched the episode twice, looking for him before I realized he was Lester’s voiceover. Can we expect to see—or hear him— in every season moving forward?

JOHN HOFFMAN: [Laughs] I know it’s tricky. God, I would love it, because I will never get sick of Paul Rudd. It’s one of my favorite things, and his too, more famously, but a running joke he likes. We’re all family now, so it’s very sweet to be able to find ways to incorporate family, whether their characters are dead or alive, or anything in between. If you’re in it, you’re in it.

DEADLINE: Speaking of family, we may have lost Lester, but he went out like a hero defending the Arconia and the residents. How did you plan all the elements of this resolution?

HOFFMAN: The complication this year was understanding the position that we wanted Lester to be in within that situation, which was a crime of passion and not something he planned. It’s not some didactic or even short-term planning. So who’s in the room, who’s in that gaming parlor? What do they all want? What all happens that screws up everything? How do they then react afterward, to keep what they want in their sights and maintain, switch around, and cover up, and do whatever they need to do? For those in power, that tends to be what can happen.

DEADLINE: Having grown up watching Steve Martin and Martin Short films, you know how much I love silly comedy. There was a lot of that in the Season 5 finale. I particularly loved the moment when Bash asks Charles to pull his finger. Who wrote this episode? They deserve a promotion.

HOFFMAN: The episode was written by Ben Smith and J. J. Philbin. I’m glad that you liked that one, I did, too. I loved seeing the Caccimelio brothers back there, because that’s a joke they’ve had since they were 2.

DEADLINE: We are closing out on Season 5, and the core trio are old pros by now. There was major confidence from Mabel when she figured out that the Mayor killed Lester, and she chopped off his fake finger.

HOFFMAN: She was done. She was like, “That’s it. I’m sick of these power players. I’m sick of Jay playing it the way he is.” I love that line that she had at the end of Episode 9, where she tells Jay, “You want to make the world a better place, stop making it worse.” She’s at her breaking point. She’s lost everything before, so she’s got nothing to lose, and she’s sick of it. Then she starts putting it together. It’s crazy, Rosy, that our show is airing in the middle of the mayoral race in New York. It’s bonkers. Mabel represents a lot of people who are also sick of it.

DEADLINE: You guys also joined the conversation about casinos in New York, which is also a real thing.

HOFFMAN: Definitely. There were headlines back before we started the writers’ room, all about bids for a casino. There were three plans that we all looked at that were major, major bids for these casinos. It was angling from all of these different sides: who was going to get that bid? Where was it going to be, and what would that do to New York? That was all very much in our heads.

DEADLINE: The show was just renewed, and you’ve already got us excited about next season, which will investigate Cinda Canning’s death. Does this mean we will have a lot of Tina Fey?

HOFFMAN: After that three-month jump in the episode, it’s always that vacuum of like for a trio looking at, you know, what now? What next? Where do we go? And all of that. The character of Cinda started everything, so we’re going back to the beginning. So the nature of what she’s doing, what she is doing over in England, doing this thing now, why? I got to know more about it, and it’s an opportunity to tease something that opens up a whole new mystery in the home of the cozy murder mystery, which felt very exciting.

Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and Logan Lerman

DEADLINE: That bit when her body is found dead, only she was still alive enough to touch the gates of the Arconia, so her death was technically in the building, really made me laugh.

HOFFMAN: I will tell you, Steve Martin pitched that to us, and it was his idea. I just loved it, and we’ve had it for a little while. It was such a blast to see the moment come to life.

DEADLINE: The idea that the show will be shooting in London must be very exciting.

HOFFMAN: London is New York’s sister city. There will be all sorts of connectors. We will take our storytelling and steep it into this new culture and our trio will be fish in new waters.

DEADLINE: So, will you be shooting in London and New York?

HOFFMAN: No, just in London.

DEADLINE: Don’t take this the wrong way, but I was hoping Howard would die this season.

HOFFMAN: Why Howard?

DEADLINE: Michael is a fantastic actor, and those scenes between Howard and his mother were really touching. I selfishly wanted to learn more about Howard and his journey. I instantly changed my mind about wanting him offed when I saw his new hunk.

HOFFMAN: Yes, exactly. He got Vinny Caccimelio (Evan Mulrooney). [Laughs]

John Wayne Gacy Approaches Queerness, Murder

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Patrick Macmanus doesn’t usually read reviews — but the veteran showrunner went into his new series, Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy (now streaming on Peacock), ready to break that habit. “Usually, I don’t want to think about it and I just want to move on,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “But in this case, I’ve been reading literally everything — and for a very specific purpose. I came at this release from a real point of curiosity as to whether people would get it. And so far people have gotten it.”

He’s referring to the years of work that went into separating Devil in Disguise from the rest of the true-crime, serial-killer-drama pack. Despite examining one of the most notorious American serial killers in history (played here by Michael Chernus), this show, which has received wide critical acclaim, doesn’t directly depict any of Gacy’s crimes. It doesn’t spend any time on his relationship to the victims, rather allowing them the narrative space to exist on their own terms before their lives were cut tragically short. Most crucially, it intently avoids the massive, common pitfalls that come with telling a story where queerness and psychopathy are central but utterly distinct themes.

In his years of researching true events for his shows, Macmanus has learned he often doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. So to make Devil in Disguise, he enlisted GLAAD — the non-profit focused on the advancement of LGBTQ+ representation and advocacy in media — as partners in everything from script outlining to the final stages of postproduction. “We rarely get brought in quite this early,” says Dana Aliya Levinson, GLAAD’s associate director of entertainment. “There were only a few episodes written at the time that we came on, so we actually got to have a real hand in shaping what the LGBTQ representation looks like, rather than tinkering around the edges, which often happens.”

GLAAD reacted to Macmanus’ initial outreach with “weariness,” Levinson admits. “It’s understandable with any sort of true crime story, especially one that was sort of framed so salaciously by media at the time.” Gacy, who was sentenced to death in 1980 and executed by lethal injection 14 years later, killed a minimum of 33 boys and young men, many of whom he first tortured and/or raped. He identified as bisexual and was rather mistakenly dubbed the “Killer Clown” in press because he had performed in a clown club — in short, he became both a monster and a punch line in popular culture. But even look at recent depictions of serial killers in American scripted TV, like Netflix’s popular but derided Monster: The Ed Gein Story — which THR’s review called “awful” (it’s at 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) — and you’ll see a long line of salacious, bloody dramatizations of these murderers at work.

Macmanus had assembled a predominantly queer writers room for Devil in Disguise and engaged in deep conversations with GLAAD about how to not “equate queerness with psychopathy or evil or bad.” A case study would be how the show very carefully identified Gacy’s obsession with his mother’s underwear — a visual that’s long served as an ugly stereotype of trans people in media and tends to exacerbate homophobia. Macmanus initially felt like the concern was “nuanced,” but came to realize the vitality of approaching it with utmost sensitivity. (Worth noting, Ed Gein opens by luridly depicting its subject, played by Charlie Hunnam, masturbating in his mother’s undergarments.)

GLAAD never got in the way of showing what needed to be shown for the story, however. “Our line is always: If you choose to step on that landmine, we just want you to know that you’re doing it,” Levinson says. Their involvement stayed in the realm of guidance, not directives. “They were never trying to force an agenda,” Macmanus says. Other topics that led to extensive discussion were Devil in Disguise’s portrait of sex work, balancing destimigatization with the real dangers it posed at the time, and “not adulting” the victims of Gacy who were not legal adults.

Then there’s the throughline of systemic homophobia. “If we’re not going to show murders over and over again — which was what we chose to do very specifically — we are replacing that with the people who were responsible for allowing him to get away with it,” Macmanus says. “We made the choice to basically say, ‘These are the people who were partially responsible for this happening over and over again.’” Adds Ryan Mitchell, GLAAD’s senior entertainment media consultant: “Despite the fact that many of Gacy’s victims were not queer men, they were assumed to be gay by the authorities.” It’s a point some critics have argued was made a bit too repetitively in the series. Macmanus counters: “So that may have been too much, but sometimes it’s not too much to be able to show the violence on the screen over and over again? It’s just an interesting criticism.”

Devil in Disguise leaves ample room for queer joy amid so much terror — perhaps its most radical act. “We need to continue to see our stories in a time where, put simply, we are being erased in our storytelling,” Mitchell says. “It’s important to have a partnership like this where we can really help construct what it looks like to have complex, nuanced queer stories on television.” Levinson, meanwhile, has thought back to the way Gacy’s crimes were covered in media for decades until Devil in Disguise came around: “To finally get to see them as people with families and loved ones, living full and complete lives, and then feel gutted as an audience when we see them taken too soon — it helps us understand this story through the lens of [how the victims] were real human beings with complex, layered existences.

“We know from data that storytelling changes hearts and minds,” Levinson continues. “The attention and care with which these stories were told is ringing truthfully for a lot of people.”

‘Ghost Adventures’ Aaron Goodwin Breaks Silence Over Wife’s Alleged Plot to Murder Him

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin has said “this has been the worst year of [his] life” as he continues to come to terms with his estranged wife’s alleged murder-for-hire plot against him.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (October 21), Goodwin shared a message for the press, writing, “To all the press out there messaging me. Thank u for all reaching out & being awesome but unfortunately I can’t talk about anything yet.”

While the Discovery Channel star couldn’t share details of the case, he did provide a personal update with his followers. “I could tell you guys I’m doing ok but I would rather be honest. Just know I’m not doing good at all & everyday is worse with all I’m learning all the time,” he shared.

Goodwin’s estranged wife, Victoria, was arrested on March 6 in Clark County, Nevada, for solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to murder. She was accused of messaging an inmate in a Florida prison last fall, where she expressed her desire to have Goodwin killed so she could get out of her marriage. The former couple had been married since 2022.

While the 32-year-old Victoria initially denied the allegations, she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder on April 15. Two months later, she was sentenced to 36 to 90 months in prison.

“They say in time everything gets better but I just want the divorce to be over so I can move on with my life,” Goodwin continued in his Instagram post. “Honestly, I probably couldn’t make it through an interview without being in tears and I’m just not ready yet.”

He concluded, “This has been the worst year of my life.”

During a June court appearance, Victoria apologized for her actions, telling Goodwin she is “immensely sorry for the pain and anxiety” she caused him.

“I genuinely pray you find your joy and peace again, and I will bow out of your life forever to hopefully ease that process,” she added. “I’m sorry I broke us, and I’m consumed with regret every day. My absolute promise to you is that you’ll never see or hear from me.”

Goodwin filed for divorce just days after Victoria’s arrest. In his own court statement, the reality star said, “For seven years I thought I was in the most loving relationship of marriage with my best friend, someone who I trusted in [my] whole heart and laughed with every day… I was loyal to her and [did] whatever I could to make her happy. I thought we were something very special, and so did everyone else.”

Pregnant South Florida Inmate Convicted Of Murder

by jummy84 October 19, 2025
written by jummy84

What started as a tragedy behind closed doors has now turned into a national headline — and it’s got the internet watching very closely. Daisy Link, a South Florida mother of three, was just convicted of second-degree murder in the death of her longtime partner and father of her children. But this case? It’s deeper than just the verdict. And, the story that’s been unraveling since 2022 is filled with twists, trauma, and a so-called “miracle” baby that caught everyone off guard.

Link Says She Fired To Scare, Not Kill

The fatal shooting committed by Daisy Link happened after years of what her defense described as an abusive and volatile relationship. However, jurors took less than two hours to find Link guilty in the 2022 shooting of her partner Pedro Jimenez. The trial also featured an emotional testimony — even from the couple’s 11-year-old son. He reportedly told the court that he saw his father aim a gun at his mother and pistol-whip her. Additionally, Link testified that Jimenez was under the influence and became violent after accusing her of cheating. Link claimed that she fired the gun at Jimenez to scare him off, not to kill. “It’s not like I didn’t love him,” she said on the stand. “That’s the father of my kids.”

Link’s Pregnancy Stuns The Net, Family Speaks Out

But, what really grabbed national attention was what happened after Link’s arrest. As previously reported, in 2023, she became pregnant while behind bars — and later gave birth in June 2024. The father? Another inmate, Joan DePaz. According to both, the baby was conceived through self-insemination and they’ve called it a “miracle.” Her sister, Crystal Barretto, says Link is a victim of domestic violence and is heartbroken over the verdict, urging the judge to consider her past and her children during sentencing. “The fight is not over,” she said, as Link’s legal team prepares to appeal.

Guilty Verdict In—But This Case Isn’t Over

Furthermore, one juror said the decision was based purely on the facts, and prosecutors painted the shooting as a fit of rage. With sentencing set for November 21 and an appeal already in motion, this case is far from over — and social media is definitely watching how it all plays out.

“I hope the judge takes into consideration all the evidence that was presented, the past domestic violence, history against Pedro and Daisy and the time she’s already served,” Crystal Barretto shared. “And also taken into consideration, her children and the new baby that was just born.”

Two men charged with murder of Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins

by jummy84 October 13, 2025

13 October 2025

Two men have been charged with the murder of Ian Watkins.

Ian Watkins was killed in prison

The former Lostprophets frontman – who was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of child sex offences – was fatally injured during an incident at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday (11.10.25) morning and now Rashid Gedel, 25, and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth have been charged over the killing.

The pair will appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday (13.10.25), West Yorkshire Police have announced.

Police and paramedics were called to the prison after the paedophile singer was reportedly ambushed and fatally injured after a knife attack.

Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 9.39am this morning, police were called by staff at HMP Wakefield reporting an assault on a prisoner. Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and inquiries remain ongoing at the scene.”

A Prison Service spokesperson added in a statement: “We are aware of an incident at HMP Wakefield which took place this morning. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate.”

Prison guards were said to have been unable to “save” the inmate.

A source told The Sun: “Guards were nearby and raced to the scene pretty quickly – but there was nothing they could do, and they could not save him.

“It was a horrific scene, with blood everywhere and alarms and sirens going off.

“Police and ambulances were called and the whole prison was locked down with all cons confined to their cells.”

Watkins, 48, was jailed in December 2013 for 29 years after admitting to a string of sex offences – including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby.

The disgraced musician was caught in 2012 following the execution of a drugs warrant at his home in Pontypridd, Wales, where a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices were seized by police.

Analysis of the equipment revealed Watkins’ depraved behaviour.

The Welsh singer had previously been stabbed in an incident at the same prison in 2023 and suffered non life-threatening injuries after reportedly being taken hostage by three other inmates for six hours.

Meanwhile, episodes three and four, written by Amy Reith, will feature comedy legend Harry Enfield (Miss Marple – The Moving Finger). The final two episodes, penned by Julia Gilbert, will star Cherie Lunghi (Strike), Adrian Lukis (SAS Rogue Heroes) and Alastair Mackenzie (The Crown).

Season 3 follows Judith, Suzie and Becks now members of an established part of newly promoted DI Tanika Malik’s crime solving gang and they are bringing their unconventional methods to a string of high-profile murders.

The synopsis teases: “From the sudden death of the town’s beloved mayor – the nicest man in Marlow – to a celebrity chef found dead at the launch of his cookbook with half the town in attendance, the team will be working under the watchful eye of the Marlow community. They’ll also be called to action at a university reunion in an eerie manor house where in a surprising twist, Becks finds herself amongst the suspects. Could this case threaten our amateur sleuths’ roles as civilian advisors?”

Season 3 was announced earlier this year, with Claire Hookway, commissioning executive for UKTV, commenting: “Following the huge success of the first two series, we’re thrilled to return with another instalment where Judith, Suzie, Becks, and our police team are faced with three puzzling new mysteries to solve.

“We’re excited to treat the audience to more joyous fun in the beautiful town of Marlow, with many surprises and clever twists in store.”

The Impossible Fortune review: A new dawn for The Thursday Murder Club

Soon she’s drawn into a case involving a missing person, murders, and a fortune in bitcoin. And of course she has to bring the gang along for some help, being forced to rely on them a lot more than usual.

The real strength of the series has always been Osman’s character work. The Last Devil to Die remains the series’ emotional peak, but this entry carries that thread forward, which proves a wise decision. Elizabeth, still mourning Stephen, isn’t as sharp as usual, and for the first time the investigation doesn’t belong solely to her. Instead, the others – Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron – step into the spotlight.

Joyce shoulders much of the responsibility, rallying the group and making decisions herself, even when it puts her in danger. Ibrahim continues his curious connection with Connie the drug lord, a relationship that’s proving unexpectedly rewarding for them both.

Meanwhile, Ron takes centre stage in the B-plot, wrestling with the reveal of his daughter’s abusive marriage and his own ageing body. His struggle with fading strength and identity delivers some of the novel’s most poignant passages, though admittedly leaving the reader wishing for even more.

As ever, Osman uses the cosy crime frame to explore themes often overlooked in the genre: loneliness, loss and diminishing independence. Here, Ron’s journey of letting go of his old self and embracing a new one is especially affecting and the novel would be even stronger if readers were able to linger on these themes just a little longer.

The mystery itself is more high-tech than usual, with missing bitcoin sparking a chase that draws in ruthless players. The wealth-obsessed leave chaos and death in their wake, and the investigation has real bite. As mysteries go in The Thursday Murder Club series, it’s a fairly exciting one with an element of the cat and mouse chase.

The Impossible Fortune isn’t quite as accomplished as The Last Devil to Die, which married a gripping plot with rich character exploration. But it serves as a necessary reset: easing Elizabeth into her new life, allowing her space to grieve, and giving Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron the chance to prove they’ve learned from her.

If the first four novels were largely centred on Elizabeth’s incredible talents, this one suggests a small reset to allow the rest of the crew to show just what they’re capable of too. The future’s looking very bright for this talented bunch.
