Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan penned a moving note for late actress Kamini Kaushal after she passed away on November 14 at the age of 98. For the uninitiated, Big B’s bond with Kaushal traces back to the pre-partition Punjab as the late actress’ family was close to Bachchan’s mother, Teji Bachchan’s family.

He shared an emotional tribute on his blog and wrote, “… and another loss .. a dear family friend of the days of yore .. when there was no partition .. Kamini Kaushal ji .. legendary artist, an icon, who contributed immensely to our Industry and who remained, with us till the very last .. her family and Maa ji’s families were very dear friends in erstwhile pre partition Punjab ..”

His note continued, “Kamini ji’s elder sister was a very close friend of Maaji .. they were classmates, and a most joyous bunch of like minded friends .. the elder sister passed away regretfully in an accident, and as per the tradition of the times, in such an unfortunate situation, the sister of the deceased was married to the bereaved husband, her brother-in law ..”

Praising her for her talent and warmth, the actor added, “A most pleasant warm affectionate and talented artist, has left us .. at the age of 98 .. an era of great remembrance gone .. not just for the film fraternity, but as a member of the friends fraternity .. One by one they all are leaving us .. a most sad moment, filled only now with condolence and prayer .. .. her legendary performances of those early days, now just memories ..”

‘Angrezon Ke Zamane Ka Jailer’ No More: Bollywood Mourns Comedy Legend Asrani’s Passing At 84

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood is grief-stricken today as veteran actor and comedian Asrani – born Govardhan Asrani – passed away in Mumbai at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. His death marks the end of an era for Hindi cinema, which has lost one of its most cherished and versatile performers.

Final moments and farewell

Asrani reportedly passed away around 3:00 pm at the Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, following health complications. His manager confirmed the news, stating that the veteran had been undergoing treatment for breathing issues and had been admitted just days prior.

In keeping with his personal wishes, the actor’s last rites were conducted the same day at the Santacruz crematorium in a modest, private ceremony attended by his family and close friends. The family shared that Asrani had not wanted his passing to become a spectacle.

From Jaipur beginnings to Bollywood stardom

Born on January 1, 1941, in Jaipur into a humble Sindhi family, Asrani’s journey to the silver screen was one of sheer grit and talent. He initially worked as a voice artist at All India Radio in his hometown, and later joined the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

Despite his formal training, early years were a struggle. He took on small roles while teaching at FTII and gradually worked his way up. His big break arrived in the 1971 film Guddi, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, after which he went on to deliver a string of standout performances.

The role of a lifetime: from Sholay to timeless comedy

While Asrani appeared in more than 300 films across five decades, the role that cemented his place in Indian pop-culture was that of the eccentric jailer in the 1975 cult classic Sholay. His nasal delivery of the line “Angrezon ke zamaane ka jailor” remains etched in public memory.

Beyond Sholay, his remarkable comic timing shone in films such as Chupke Chupke, Bawarchi, Abhimaan, Chhoti Si Baat, Hera Pheri, Welcome, and many more. Directors from Bombay’s golden era and subsequent revival of comedy films often relied on his dependable presence and versatility.

Even in recent years, Asrani remained active; he shot for films including Haiwaan and Bhoot Bangla, working right up until his final days. In fact, actor Akshay Kumar revealed they shared a warm hug just a week before the veteran’s death on a film set.

A legacy of laughter and respect

Colleagues, fans and film-lovers took to social media to mourn the stalwart actor. Tributes highlighted that Asrani’s brilliance lay not just in slapstick comedy, but in bringing humanity and soul to his characters. His ability to move effortlessly between humour and subtle emotion is often cited among his greatest strengths.

In a 2016 interview, Asrani himself lamented how Indian comedy had moved from subtlety to superficial shock-value — noting that earlier days had allowed for storytelling rather than mere spectacle.

What he leaves behind

Asrani is survived by his wife, Manju Asrani, his sister and nephew. The couple did not have children. The film-industry has lost one of its last link-bridges to a decade when character actors were equals to stars in laying the emotional foundations of a story.

Today, as Sholay plays on television screens across the country, a wave of nostalgia is rippling through millions who laughed with him, cried with him, and celebrated years of cinematic joy. The day of his passing being Diwali only heightens the emotion — around the same time when lights and celebrations were lighting up homes, Bollywood’s own light has dimmed.

The final bow

In his own understated way, Asrani left the stage for good — not with a flamboyant exit, but with a quiet passing that reflects the humility and grounded nature of the man. He didn’t seek fanfare. He simply left behind a body of work that will keep generations smiling.

Bollywood may never again find another jailer as iconic nor an actor so cherished for his every-man persona wrapped in comic genius. And as festivals come and go, perhaps the real fireworks will now be those flickering in memory of Asrani — the laughter, the timing, the joy.

Rest in laughter, legend.

Goldie Hawn Mourns Diane Keaton

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Goldie Hawn says that her friend Diane Keaton never liked praise. But now, Hawn says, “you can’t tell me to ‘shut up’ honey.”

In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Hawn wrote that Keaton, who died at 79, “stole the hearts of the world and shared your genius with millions, making films that made us laugh and cry in ways only you could. I was blessed to make First Wives Club with you, our day starting with coffee in the makeup trailer, laughing and joking, right through to the very last day of filming. It was a roller coaster of love.”

Hawn starred opposite Keaton and Bette Midler in the 1996 film.

“We agreed to grow old together,” Hawn continued. “And one day, maybe live together with all our girlfriends. Well, we never got to live together, but we did grow older together. Who knows…maybe in the next life.”

Midler also remembered Keaton Saturday by writing, “I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!”

Another beauty from The First Wives Club shared her thoughts about Keaton. In the comedy that also starred Victor Garber, Sarah Jessica Parker and Dan Hedaya, Marcia Gay Harden played Keaton’s therapist who ultimately slept with her husband (Stephen Collins).

“Oh how we are going to miss this beautiful, unique, talented, compassionate woman!” Harden wrote. “All jokes aside, indeed she did ‘work from love and grow from love’ and share it all with us!”

Harden also shared a video from one of their scenes.

Indian fashion fraternity mourns the death of Italian designer Giorgio Armani

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

The Italian designer died at 91 due to age-related illness.

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, popularly known as King Giorgio has died at 91. His demise has left a void in fashion and he was single-handedly responsible for rewriting the rules of fashion. The designer was the archetype of Italian style and built a multibillion-dollar fashion empire. His fashion house released a statement soon after his death. “Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections and the many ongoing and future projects,” the statement said.

The iconic designer died at his house surrounded by his loved ones. He gave a miss to the June 2025 Milan Fashion Week for the first time, and was planning a major event to celebrate his brand’s 50 years during Milan Fashion Week this month.

Indian fashion designers and personalities poured in their condolences for the icon.

Sunil Sethi, FDCI Chairman

This is such a big loss for all of us. His name has been synonymous with fashion. I had the fortune of working with him for two years for the launch of Armani Casa. I was his guest at the opening of Armani Casa in Milan, where I met him personally. I was in awe of his personality. Meeting him was the biggest highlight of my life. My first meeting with him was in the year 1994 at Oberoi Hotel and had a brief interaction in the hotel’s elevator.

Rahul Mishra, Designer

Giorgio Armani’s passing marks the end of an era. He wasn’t only a master of elegance and restraint—he was the architect of how a designer could build a global brand. Armani created a business model that became a case study for generations: from Armani cafe, Armani Casa to multiple divisions under his name, he showed that creativity and structure can coexist at the highest level. For independent designers like myself, and even for conglomerates, his legacy is both wisdom and roadmap. Personally, for my study having lived in Milan and witnessed his vision up close, I can say his influence shaped my own path. His ideas, his craftsmanship, and his relentless vision will remain safe in history—and he will be deeply missed by us all…

Ritu Beri, Designer

The world has lost a true icon with the passing of Giorgio Armani. His vision redefined elegance and simplicity, leaving an indelible mark on global fashion. For me, Armani was the epitome of timeless style and creative genius, an inspiration whose legacy will live on forever.

Suneet Varma, Designer

Giorgio Armani, the maestro of timeless elegance, redefined modern fashion with his quiet confidence and pure lines. He gave the world a new order of style—where tailoring was softened, glamour became effortless, and jeans stood as a symbol of democracy in dress. Armani dressed presidents, film stars, and dreamers alike, yet his true genius was in making sophistication accessible. With his passing, we lose not just a designer, but a visionary who shaped how the world dresses forever.

Nachiket Barve, Designer

Giorgio Armani is an absolute legend whose contribution to fashion is eternal. Bringing ease and fluidity to menswear, sophisticated androgyny to women’s fashion and being one of the first designers to build and nurture an independent fashion empire, his legacy is large and inspiring to generations of designers. I continue to be inspired by his focus and timeless elegance as he built his signature over decades.

Rina Dhaka, Designer

As a young designer my only first big dream was to wear Armani head-to -toe. He exemplified quiet class in clothing, no logos sreaming what you are wearing. With time ofcourse newer brands came, but Monsieur Armani at 91 could still be seen at the end of the show walking tall though frail with age. Students in India in fashion in 2025 must read of his legacy his craft to understand my perspective.
