Deepika Padukone Fires Back At 8-Hour Shift Row: ‘We Mistake Burnout For Commitment’

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Deepika Padukone has finally broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her demand for an eight-hour work shift — a debate reignited after her much-publicised exits from Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD sequel. In a candid interview with CNBC-TV18, she painted a picture of double standards in Bollywood, calling for systemic reform in an industry she described as “very disorganised.”

At the heart of her argument is an uncomfortable truth: many male superstars have been working eight-hour days — even weekdays-only schedules — without the scrutiny she’s facing now. “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy… so be it,” she said. For her, the problem isn’t just long hours — it’s that the culture glorifies overwork and mistakes burnout for dedication.

Deepika argued that being healthy isn’t a luxury, but a necessity: “Eight hours of work a day is enough for the human body and mind. Only when you’re healthy can you give your best.” She said flexible work hours should not be the exception, but a standard, especially for people who juggle motherhood and grueling work demands. Her own office reportedly follows an 8-hour, 5-day workweek, with maternity and paternity policies and facilities for working parents.

The fallout of these demands has been significant. When Deepika walked away from Spirit, rumors claimed she pushed for shorter hours, profit sharing and even a 25-person entourage with five-star accommodations. These reports gathered traction and fueled criticism, particularly because such requests came just months after she became a mother.

Her exit from Kalki 2 sparked further debate. It was formally announced that she would not reprise her role, and insiders claim her “work-culture demands” played a key part in the fallout. But Deepika insists her case isn’t about special treatment — it’s about basic fairness.

Calling the film industry disorganized, she said it’s time to bring in structure and professionalism. “We really never worked as an industry. It’s time that we brought in some system into this culture,” she argued.

Despite the heat she’s taken, Deepika says she’s unflinching. “I’m okay being abused at. I need to keep reinventing and pushing the boundaries,” she told reporters. She credited her background — raised by an athlete father, Prakash Padukone — for giving her the resilience to tune out noise and persist with what she believes is right.

Deepika’s stand has opened a larger conversation about gender and equity in Bollywood. Many see this as a benchmark moment: if one of the biggest stars can demand fair working conditions, it pressures the system to catch up. Some have already voiced support. For instance, actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh reportedly backed her publicly, highlighting the need for better work-life balance. Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha weighed in too: “You do need time for yourself,” she said.

Still, critics remain divided. Some question whether her demands are feasible, especially for large-scale, VFX-heavy productions where long hours may be tied to budget and deadlines. Others argue that her privileges make her push less relatable. But Deepika’s case is not only about her convenience — it’s about redefining what commitment and professionalism mean in modern cinema.

For her part, she’s not backing down. She insists that her fight is not for special favors, but for an industry that respects mental health, parenthood and sustainable work culture. Her exit from two major projects wasn’t a power play — it was a principled stand, and she wants that to spark more than headlines.

As the debate continues, Deepika Padukone’s message remains clear: work culture needs to evolve, not just for her, but for the many who create the stories the world watches.

bitchy | George Clooney on Kamala Harris’s candidacy: ‘I think it was a mistake, quite honestly’

written by jummy84

As we now know, for many white Democrats, the problem with Joe Biden’s age was that his vice president was a Black and Indian woman. Their concerns about President Biden’s age were inextricably linked to the fact that if anything happened to him, Kamala Harris would be president. That was what was so bizarre to me last year – I voted for Biden in 2020, knowing that he was already a very old man, but I loved the fact that he chose Kamala Harris as his VP and his successor. Choosing Kamala made me love Biden even more, and it made me more eager to vote for him. But for people like George Clooney, they simply lost their f–king minds at the idea of a Harris presidency or Harris presidential nomination. All of the “Biden must drop out” bullsh-t was tied to the podbro pipe dream of an “open primary” and “contested convention” bypassing Kamala Harris (then the sitting vice president) in August, just a few months before an election. They simply never wanted Kamala to be Biden’s successor, period, the end. Well, George Clooney has returned to his favorite topic:

George Clooney has called out Hunter Biden for “outright lies” in his expletive-laden rant trashing Clooney’s role in pushing former President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race. An interview on CBS Sunday Morning gave Clooney the chance to address the comments made by President Biden’s son. Hunter, 55, took aim at Clooney, 64, during an interview on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan in July, roughly a year after the actor wrote a consequential New York Times op-ed urging Biden not to seek re-election.

“F— you. What do you have to do with f—ing anything? Why do I have to f—ing listen to you?” Hunter said. “What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f—ing life to the service of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full page ad in the f—ing New York Times to undermine the president…”

Clooney—who has previously defended the op-ed as a “civic duty”—fired back in the interview with Sunday Morning’s Seth Doane, saying, “I could spend a lot of time debunking many of the things [Hunter] said because many of the things he said were just outright lies: Obama didn’t put me up to it, it wasn’t my fundraiser—it was my fundraiser, all the things.”

“But the reality is I don’t think looking backwards like that is helpful to anyone, particularly to him. I don’t think it’s helpful for the Democratic party, and so I’m just gonna wish him well on his ongoing recovery and I hope he does well and just leave it at that. I have many personal opinions about it, but I don’t find it to be helpful to have a public spat with him.”

On Sunday, Clooney again defended his op-ed while calling Biden’s decision to effectively hand then-Vice President Kamala Harris the Democratic nomination after dropping out a “mistake.”

“We had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary. Let’s battle-test this quickly and get it up and going. I think the mistake with it being Kamala is she had to run against her own record and it’s very hard to do if the point of running is to say, ‘I’m not that person,’” Clooney told Doane. “It’s hard to do, and so she was given a very tough task. I think it was a mistake, quite honestly. But, we are where we are.”

[From The Daily Beast]

We’re now, what? About sixteen months past Clooney’s NYT op-ed, and here are some things I believe about that moment now: I don’t think Clooney wrote it, but he put his name to it because he agreed to the general ideas therein. I also believe that Clooney’s perspective, and the perspectives of the men behind the op-ed and the “open primary/contested convention” pipe dream, are fundamentally anti-democratic. Think about what they’re arguing – that the sitting Democratic vice president should have been ignored and passed over so they could have a sausage-party mini-primary in August, but Kamala wouldn’t be allowed to participate and it was somehow unfair to the bros that Kamala… simply got the support and convention delegates she needed to take over the nomination in a matter of days. Kamala’s name was already on the real primary ballots as well, earlier in 2024. But it was a “mistake” for… people to support her, George swears! The Democrat bros should have run someone else without the support Kamala was getting! Keep in mind, George and his family live in France and Italy now.

Makeup Mantras: Rasika Dugal reveals her beauty secrets, favourite winged liner trick and a sunscreen mistake to avoid

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Actors don’t always rely on layers of makeup and hours in the chair for luminous skin and effortless charm. For Delhi Crime and Manto actor Rasika Dugal, skincare starts with fitness and good sleep, while makeup is about enhancing—not hiding—her natural features. In this candid edition of Makeup Mantras for HT Lifestyle, Rasika talks about her glow-from-within secrets, the only two products she can’t live without, and the quirky DIY hack she uses to draw the perfect eyeliner every time.

Rasika Dugal believes in simple makeup mantras.(Instagram/ Rasika Dugal)

Q. Shooting schedules can be harsh on skin. How do you keep yours healthy and glowing amidst the lights and long hours?

Rasika Dugal: Exercise! It’s the best skin hack. There is nothing that makes the skin glow more than a good workout. But it can’t be at the cost of good sleep. So, a good workout after a good night’s sleep is my mantra. It can be tough to do both when I am shooting. On those days, I choose one or the other. Exercise well. Drink lots of water. And remove the make up as soon as you don’t need it!

Q. What are the makeup products you always carry in your bag, no matter what?

Rasika Dugal: Lip balm and Kajal.

Q. International brands or homegrown Indian brands for makeup: What do you prefer and why?

Rasika Dugal: Whatever is tried and tested and works best for my skin. Sometimes, the most recommended brands don’t suit your skin and a lesser known brand just clicks. It about what your skin needs at that time. Initially, I experiment with a few products to see what works. Once I find something that works for me, I pretty much stick to it till my needs change. Because what is suitable for your skin also keeps changing with age, with the weather, and so on.

Q. Do you have a go-to sunscreen that works under makeup without leaving a white cast?

Rasika Dugal: ISDIN photoprotector. Blends into the skin well and feels light. Sunscreen is a must these days. I have made the mistake of not wearing sunscreen when I am indoors. And that’s a no-no.

Q. One makeup trend you secretly can’t stand?

Rasika Dugal: I am not a fan of bling on the face.

Q. A DIY beauty hack you want all your fans to learn?

Rasika Dugal: Use tape to get your winged liner right! It’s a great hack. Just put a small tape on the edge of your eye in the direction in which you want the liner. And then you don’t have to worry about the liner being swiggly or messy. Once you remove the tape, it’s a nice, neat line!

Q. Is there a makeup look from one of your characters that you were not comfortable with?

Rasika Dugal: Makeup is about the details. It is amazing how one tweak can change so much. For example, whether you brush your eyebrows up or not can just make you look so different! I like to use make up effectively for character work.

Wigs or hair extensions are great for changing the look of a character. Especially, when there is a time jump in the script… But they are the most uncomfortable to wear throughout a shoot day. They can be heavy and no matter how good the quality, the clips hurt after a couple of hours. They are the first thing I want to take off when the director says pack up!

Q. Share your guide to a 5-minute makeup routine for all lazy women out there!

Rasika Dugal: For a lazy day: Moisturize really well, put on some sunscreen. Wear Kohl. Glossy lip balm. And you are ready to go.

For a not so lazy day: In addition to the lazy day routine, apply a nice primer. Add some concealer to the undereyes. Then use very tiny dots of it (because concealer is typically heavier than foundation) on other parts of the face and blend, so that the undereyes don’t look patchy. Brush up the brows and done!

For anything else: 5 minutes is too ambitious!

Q. What’s the weirdest place you have ever done your makeup in?

Rasika Dugal: In a cab in France! On my way from the airport in Nice to Cannes. My flight was delayed and I had to make it in time for the announcement of my film ‘Manto’! I had quickly changed in the airport loo and figured that the only way I would make it in time would be if I did my make-up in the cab. The driver was obviously not thrilled. He kept mumbling throughout the hour long drive. Thankfully, I don’t speak French!

Q. Fill in the blank: “I feel most beautiful when _.”

Rasika Dugal: I am wearing Kohl.

Emmys 2025 Make Rookie Awards Show Mistake

Emmys 2025 Make Rookie Awards Show Mistake

by jummy84 September 15, 2025
written by jummy84

The most frustrating part of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards was the wasted potential. Multiple records were broken, there were many history-making wins, plus upsets galore, and yet all anyone is talking about is a bit that wore out its welcome the second the Boys & Girls Club charity pot went from six figures to five.

Walking into the lobby of the Peacock Theater on a particularly muggy Sunday afternoon, there was actually a lot of enthusiasm for comedian Nate Bargatze’s first stint as host. Not only was he already an Emmy nominee this year for his most recent Netflix comedy special “Your Friend, Nate Bargatze,” but he had also been one of the hosts during the landmark 50th season of “Saturday Night Live.”

Host Nate Bargatze at the 77TH EMMY® AWARDS, broadcasting live to both coasts from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, Sunday, Sept. 14, (8:00-11:00 PM, LIVE ET/5:00-8:00 PM, LIVE PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+.* -- Photo: Sonja Flemming/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

His opening sketch, a play on “SNL” highlight “Washington’s Dream,” co-starring cast members Bowen Yang, James Austin Johnson, and Mikey Day, worked super-well in the room, with jokes like “What is streaming, sir?” “A new way for people to lose money,” eliciting laughs from the audience full of Television Academy members who work in the industry.

Maybe chalk that up to beginner’s luck, or playing the hits, but forgoing a traditional monologue to announce an ongoing bit about taking money away from charity in the name of shorter speeches was dead on arrival. And following it shortly with actress Jennifer Coolidge taking triple the amount of time anyone took to give a speech just to present the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to “Hacks” star Jean Smart didn’t help.

Immediately, it was clear that Bargatze and Emmys producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay did not realize the extent to which they were prioritizing a bunch of presenter bits that did not work (as often is the case) over the main thing fans of awards shows generally tune in for: heartfelt acceptance speeches.

Thankfully, the charity pot countdown did not seem to get in the way of speeches from actors who gave breakthrough performances this season, like “The Pitt” star Katherine LaNasa and “Severance” star Tramell Tillman, the latter of whom became the first ever Black winner for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Stephen Colbert at the 77TH EMMY® AWARDS, broadcasting live to both coasts from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, Sunday, Sept. 14, (8:00-11:00 PM, LIVE ET/5:00-8:00 PM, LIVE PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+.* -- Photo: Sonja Flemming/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. But even when there weren’t those imposing numbers on the board, Bargatze’s only commentary on those emotional TV moments was always just some play on how the winner damaged the charity pot.

It was emblematic of a problem with awards shows in general, one that Bargatze and company are just another example of: These are live events, and live events feed off of the energy in the crowds.

If you lose the crowd, you lose the show. The past two Golden Globes also suffered from this, as part of the reason comedian Jo Koy tanked was that no one in the Beverly Hilton ballroom could actually hear him. The next year, they made sure host Nikki Glaser’s mic was on, yet none of the presenter bits worked because the staging had them perform jokes to the camera, with their backs to the majority of the audience in the room.

If “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” winning its first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series on the precipice of the show coming to an end continues to be seen as the highlight of the telecast, it is because the audience inside the Peacock Theater was clapping and cheering for host Colbert before they even read off the nominees. That win? It was the most hype the crowd ever got.

Despite the production’s shortcomings, at least there was an overall sense of contentment with the actual awards results, especially given the amount of surprise wins. (For instance, virtually everyone was happy to see “Somebody Somewhere” star Jeff Hiller unexpectedly triumph in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series over big stars like Harrison Ford and Colman Domingo and perennial nominees like Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Bowen Yang.)

The after-parties were all jubilant, and refreshingly free of the kind of bad, distracting bits that so hurt the show itself. As one awards specialist sagely put it, “We all love a surprise, you just hope it goes in your favor.” On the telecast, it didn’t.

Jennie Garth was ‘furious’ after doctor’s pregnancy mistake in front of her mother

27 August 2025

Jennie Garth was mistakenly told she was pregnant as teenager in front of her mother.

Jennie Garth recalls awkward pregnancy scare

The 53-year-old star has recalled an awkward visit to a clinic with her mother Carolyn Garth when the doctor got some results mixed up.

Speaking to her ex-husband Peter Facinelli’s daughter Fiona, 18, on her I Choose Me podcast, Jennie said: “My mom went in there and it was to go on birth control.

“I had a boyfriend and I just wanted to be safe. I didn’t want to have a baby without being ready for it.”

The What I Like About You star – who confirmed the partner at the time wasn’t her Twilight actor ex – explained her mother didn’t know she was having sex at the time, so she claimed she wanted to “explore birth control options” to help with an irregular period.

She added: “I took a urine test. We’re sitting in this clinician’s office and they come in the room.

“My mom and I are just waiting for what she’s gonna say, and she says, ‘Well, you’re pregnant.’

“I was like, ‘What?’ All of a sudden, the cat was out of the bag. I was instantly just red all over. I was hot, sweaty.

“I didn’t know what to do because I had, in that moment, to be honest with my mom in the most uncomfortable situation about the fact that I had already had sex and that I had been lying to her about it.”

The Beverly Hills, 90210 star revealed the doctor soon realised they’d accidentally read the results from “someone else’s urine test”, but it was too late.

She said: “Cut to me and my mom having this emotional breakdown… Then she came back in, ‘Oh, oops! That was not your pee, that was someone else’s pee.’ “

Jennie was “furious” over the mixup, but it prompted a conversation with her mother that she’d been dreading.

She added: “That was a lot more traumatic and dramatic than if I had just gone to her and talked to her about it.

“But I, too, was really scared to talk to my mom about it, to the point where I actually lied and hid the truth from her.”

Good hair and a great sense of humor! Jennifer Aniston hosted a fireside chat with Taylen Biggs at Chief Clubhouse in West Hollywood, California on Aug. 2 to celebrate LolaVie’s Powder Perfect Dry Shampoo — she didn’t hold back on sharing her beauty from the inside out tips.

The actress, 56, said that while her latest product is “perfect,” she has fallen victim to a common hair blunder in the past.

“I can only really speak from my own experience, which is using too much [dry shampoo.] It weighs it down and it looks like there’s always sort of a powdery film to your hair.”

Luckily, the Friends star here to save the day for all of us now with her new talc-free, aerosol-free formula.

“I usually will use it after workouts,” Aniston explained. “It’s good not to wash your hair every day and let your natural oils sort of do their thing. I use it just to sort of have a good refresh. It also gives a little life back to it. It gives a little height.”

And what really sets it apart is its fragrance and magical properties.

“It’s got a beautiful, fresh scent. It’s got rice starch, and bamboo, and crushed crystals, just to add a little bit of juju,” the Emmy award winner noted.

Beyond providing a magical solution for bad hair days, the founder has another extraordinary ability.

“My superpower? A sense of humor. … Just a sense of humor because God knows we need it,” she joked.

In addition to using high-quality haircare and providing lots of laughter, The Morning Show star’s ultimate beauty philosophy all comes down to being genuine.

“Authenticity is key. … Staying true to yourself, not caring about what others think. … And loving what you’re doing.”
