Mike Tyson Reveals He Used Fentanyl During Boxing Career

Mike Tyson‘s storied career has been closely observed by the world, but there are still some discoveries that have yet to be widely revealed. The renowned boxer spoke about how he has had experience using fentanyl during his boxing career decades ago — a confession that shocked many.

While speaking on The Katie Miller Podcast about his journey as a cannabis entrepreneur, Tyson delved into the substances he has used before. He said he was initially exposed to fentanyl for pain relief, but experienced withdrawal symptoms when he attempted to stop.

“I’ve done fentanyl before. In the late ’90s, when it first came here, it was a painkiller, and I used to use it to patch up my toe. It was like heroin, once it wears off and you take the Band-Aid off, you start withdrawing, throwing up, just like if you were on heroin or something,” he said.

The 59-year-old added he did it “quite a few times,” but stopped because it “was illegal if it [was] caught in my bloodstream,” which he was initially unaware of.

He explained, “It was a narcotic, my friend told me. It was brand new. I told my friend, ‘Could I use this? Would I be able to use this?’ No one ever heard of it.’ You couldn’t use it, and I didn’t know that. I thought it was a painkiller.” The boxer added he would have continued to use it if he was allowed to.

According to the DEA, fentanyl is a “potent synthetic opioid drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use as an analgesic (pain relief) and anesthetic.” It is approximately 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic and 100 times more potent than morphine. The CDC reported the drug caused 48,422 overdose-released deaths in the United States back in 2024.

Tyson has opened up about his battles with drug addiction throughout his life. In his autobiography, The Undisputed Truth, he admitted to fighting under the influence of marijuana and cocaine. He said he was a “full-blown cokehead” during certain chapters of his career, and he tested positive for marijuana in 2000 before his fight with Andrew Golota.

The “Baddest Man on the Planet” made headlines last year for stepping into the ring with Jake Paul. In November 2024, the two faced off and Paul defeated Tyson in 8 rounds by a unanimous decision.

Marlon Wayans Or Mike Epps? Fans Debate Star Of Richard Pryor Biopic

by jummy84 September 9, 2025

One thing people on the internet will do is debate a topic, even if there isn’t actually anything to argue over. Marlon Wayans‘ screen test for a Richard Pryor biopic recently surfaced online, and some fans rallied behind Mike Epps as the person who should play the late comedian.

A screenwriter shared the leaked footage on X, including a little over two minutes of Wayans depicting the Peoria, Ill. legend. “The first scene, if you close your eyes, sounds just like Pryor,” one fan commented. “You will most likely have to watch the whole movie to wash out Marlon’s face from your mind and replace it with Richard. Like Denzel Washington for Malcolm X or Jamie Foxx for Ray Charles.”

The screenwriter replied, “His standup voice in this is spot on I think.” There were many mixed reviews for Wayans’ performance, which gave way for the Epps coalition to start boosting their guy. “Marlon Wayne Playing As Richard Pryor Instead Of Mike Epps,” one fan wrote with a clip of the classic The Breakfast Club interview where Safaree freestyled and Charlamagne Tha God said “Nah, that aint it, y’all.”

Another fan quoted Wayans’ clip and wrote “Sh*t look like [Marlon] playing Damon Wayans playing my drunk dad. They better get Mike Epps on the phone.” Another fan admitted he enjoyed Marlon’s performance, but there was a better choice. “Idk man. I like this but i still think Mike Epps is the man for the job.” One user created a criteria for why Epps deserved the role over Wayans. “You can’t play Richard Pryor if you’re not as funny as Richard Pryor,” they wrote. “Mike Epps not only looked like him back then but comedically was much closer to Richard Pryor than Marlon was.”

Here’s the thing: the screen test everyone is reacting to isn’t tied to any Richard Pryor biopic coming out soon. In fact, Wayans auditioned for the role back in 2010, and it was a completely different movie based on Pryor. A fan of Twitter confirmed that Epps got the role for the particular biopic they are well referencing, and a quick Google search revealed that the project has been in limbo since 2014 due to casting issues and an issue between Epps and Pryor’s widow. Lee Daniels was the director of that film, and Eddie Murphy and Damon Wayans were reportedly also involved.

Fortunately for fans interested in seeing a reimagining of the legendary actor’s life, Kenya Barris is currently working on a 10-episode series covering all of his experiences from birth until death. “It is my baby,” Barris told Variety. “I love it. He is my comedy god. A super flawed guy, but who everything, to this day, the comedy that we remember — even including [Dave] Chappelle — is derivative of what he started. That honest, reflecting, observational look at what the world is and the differences between us that actually make us more similar than we are apart.”

Cristobal Tapia De Veer Wins Fourth Emmy For The White Lotus Amid Fallout With Mike White | Glamsham.com

A Win Wrapped in Drama:
The Creative Arts Emmys 2025 brought a big moment for composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, who picked up his fourth Emmy for The White Lotus. His trophy came in the category of

Best Original Main Title Theme Music for Season 3.
But while the honor celebrated his artistry, it also arrived under the shadow of his very public falling out with series creator Mike White.

The Acceptance: Without HBO or White
Tapia de Veer did not attend the Los Angeles ceremony but celebrated remotely. On Instagram, he shared: “I just won my fourth Emmy Award: best theme for The White Lotus Season 3. I respect the Academy because those votes can’t be bought. No smear campaign distracted them. Thank you, this means a lot to me in more than one way.”

He paired his words with a clip of the winning theme playing over a video of a firefly, writing that the melody was inspired by filming that moment.

Notably, there was no mention of HBO or Mike White, a telling omission given the rocky history between them.

Congratulations to all of the winners of the 74th EMMY Awards!

The Creative Rift:
Earlier this year, Tapia de Veer confirmed he would not return for Season 4, citing clashes with White and the production team. He claimed their disputes dated back to Season 1, where he fought to keep his darker, experimental vision intact.

“Maybe I was being unprofessional. But what I gave him did this — did those Emmys, people going crazy. It was worth the tension,” Tapia de Veer told the New York Times.
White, in turn, responded in interviews by downplaying the feud but admitted they “butted heads,” especially during Season 3.

“He is very talented. But I don’t think he respected me,” White said on The Howard Stern Show, adding that Tapia de Veer resisted feedback once the show became a hit.

The White Lotus and Its Awards Run:
Despite the off-screen tensions, The White Lotus continues to be an Emmy powerhouse. Across its first three seasons, the HBO series has earned 16 Emmys, with Tapia de Veer personally winning four:
Two for Best Main Title Theme (Seasons 1 & 3)
Two for Original Dramatic Score (Seasons 1 & 2)

Season 3 alone picked up 15 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Final Take:
Tapia de Veer’s fourth Emmy proves how essential his haunting, off-kilter themes were in defining The White Lotus. Yet his departure raises questions about how the show will evolve musically in Season 4 without the man who gave it its sonic identity.

The feud may have overshadowed the win, but the Emmy also serves as a reminder: sometimes creative tension, however messy, can produce unforgettable art.

White Lotus Composer Wins Emmy After Mike White Feud

White Lotus Composer Wins Emmy After Mike White Feud

The White Lotus composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer has won the award for best original main title theme music at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards following a public falling out with the show’s creator Mike White. The win marks de Veer’s third Emmy for the HBO drama, which he’s scored since its premiere in 2021.

In April, de Veer told The New York Times that he would not be returning for the series’ fourth season, saying, “I announced to the [editorial] team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving. … At some point, [White] heard about that.”

According to de Veer, he and White butted heads over the show’s opening theme song, specifically the “ooh-loo-loo-loos” that were a part of the season one track. In season three, the sound was removed from the series’ opening credit music, but was still featured on the full version of the track, with de Veer admitting, “I just stuck to what I was doing. And when I was giving versions, it was still the same thing.”

Days after de Veer’s New York Times story ran, White responded to the article in an interview with Howard Stern, saying, “I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show. I don’t think he respected me. He wants people to know that he’s edgy and dark and I’m, I don’t know, like I watch reality TV. We never really even fought. He says we feuded. I don’t think I ever had a fight with him — except for maybe some emails. It was basically me giving him notes. I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me, or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me. I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to The New York Times to shit on me and the show three days before the finale. It was kind of a bitch move.”

For his part, de Veer noted his reluctance to take notes from White in the Times, saying, “Maybe I was being unprofessional, and, for sure, Mike feels that I was always unprofessional to him because I didn’t give him what he wanted. But what I gave him did this, you know — [won] those Emmys, people going crazy [for the show],” he said. “That is the main thing that I’m most happy about — it was worth all the tension and almost forcing the music into the show, in a way, because I didn’t have that many allies in there … This was a good struggle.”

De Veer won Emmys for both best music composition and best original main title music in 2022 and best music composition in 2023 for The White Lotus, which received a total of 23 Emmy nominations overall this year. The 2025 award for best music composition went to Severance.

The 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards are held on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Check out the full list of winners here.

Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather Jr. To Share The Ring In Exhibition Match

One of boxing’s biggest “what if” moments is becoming a reality, as living legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have agreed to face off in an exhibition match next spring.

Mayweather, who finished his professional boxing career with an undefeated 50-0 record, spoke on the anticipated event with much confidence. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy,” he said in a statement. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

The 48-year-old retired in 2017 after his notable win against Conor McGregor and has since performed in eight exhibitions, including the highly publicized match with Logan Paul, which ended without a declared winner.

As for Tyson, the 59-year-old last stepped into the ring in 2024 against Jake Paul, drawing in 65,000,000 viewers on Netflix. Though he lost by unanimous decision, the event made history as the most-streamed sporting event ever.

“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but Floyd said yes,” Tyson revealed to ESPN. “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable — and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”

The weight difference between the two champions alone makes this fight a spectacle worth watching. Reportedly, Tyson came in at 228.4 pounds against Paul, while Mayweather weighed just 160.8 in his exhibition with John Gotti III, last year.

“Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are two of the most compelling names and personalities, with lasting legacies, in all of sports. They are 21st-century icons,” CSI Sports co-founders Richard and Craig Miele said in a statement. “Tyson vs. Mayweather will break every broadcast, streaming, and economic record set by Mike Tyson in 2024. We are planning a robust promotional campaign complete with weekly premium storytelling and worldwide marketing reach.”

They added, “The event itself will be in a world-class venue and be presented to a global audience with new in-ring technology elements that will reshape how boxing is presented, and scoring is achieved, for years to come.”

The CSI Sports/Fight Sports-produced event has not released an exact date or location, but in the meantime the anticipation for the main event continues to build.

Mike Tyson’s big showdown against Jake Paul on Netflix didn’t go so well, but the veteran boxer isn’t ready to hang up his gloves just yet. Per TMZ, Tyson has agreed to fight Floyd Mayweather in an upcoming bout set to take place in spring 2026.

“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson, 59, said in a statement. “However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable — and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”

“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this,” he added. “It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”

Mayweather, who is 11 years Tyson’s junior, countered: “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy. You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

The exact date and location of the match have not yet been announced.

The Smiths’ Mike Joyce to Publish Autobiography, The Drums

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce has announced his autobiography. The Drums offers a frontline view of the band’s story from “the self-confessed biggest Smiths fan in the world,” as the product description puts it. “His off-piste, frank and witty perspective allows him to re-contextualise fan favourite moments through a beautifully vulnerable, human insight into his life.” The Drums is due for release on November 6.

New Modern, an imprint of HMV owner Doug Putman’s new Putman Publishing house, is behind the publication. Beyond international postage, details of a North American release have not been revealed.

In 2013, Morrissey published the first Smiths memoir, the slightly notorious Autobiography, which he managed to get released via the august imprint Penguin Classics. Johnny Marr followed suit with Set the Boy Free in 2016.

Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, who played alongside Joyce with Sinéad O’Connor after the band’s dissolution, died of pancreatic cancer in 2023.
