Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has made a big stride beyond the silver screen by joining forces with Meta as its new English voice of Meta AI. The actress announced the thrilling news on Instagram that people in six big English-speaking areas can now engage with Meta AI in her voice.

“Alright, so this is sort of amazing I think! I’m now with Meta AI and you can speak with my voice in English in India, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Go ahead and give it a try and let me know what you think!” she concluded with a smiling “Chat soon!” — a reference to her recently opened digital avatar.

This collaboration positions Deepika with a rare league of international celebrities to give voice to Meta’s chatbot AI, in a bold move for both her global career and Meta’s initiative to personalize digital communication. Her known and friendly voice adds a familiar, human element to the AI experience, helping to make technology more usable and interactive for people.

The declaration also speaks to Deepika’s increasing global reach, not only as an actress but as a cultural icon who crosses entertainment, wellness, and technology.

Just days before this collaboration was revealed, Deepika achieved another significant milestone — being named the Government of India’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador on October 12. A long-time advocate for mental wellness, Deepika has openly shared her own battle with depression and has consistently worked to break the stigma around mental health through her foundation.

Looking back on the honor, she added, “My own experience taught me that it is not a sign of weakness to ask for help, but a sign of strength.” Experts, such as Neha Cadabam of Cadabams Hospitals, welcomed the decision, pointing out the need to differentiate between normal sadness and clinical depression to pave the way for improved mental health awareness in India.

First Trailer for Ulrich Köhler’s ‘Gavagai’ Meta Film Premiering at NYFF

“I”m nervous about tonight…” Luxbox has revealed the first official trailer for the film Gavagai, the latest from German filmmaker Ulrich Köhler. He is a talented under-the-radar director best known for his post-apocalyptic film In My Room from a few years ago. Gavagai is premiering now at the 2025 New York and Zurich Film Festivals now, before showing at Hamburg and even more fests this fall. It’s a meta story about a filmmaker making a film then encountering racism during its premiere. On the set of a turbulent shoot of a Medea adaptation in Senegal, Africa, Maja seeks solace in a love affair with her co-star Nourou. Months later, they meet again at the film’s premiere in Berlin. Old feelings resurface, but a racist incident unsettles their reunion. Tensions rise as everyone tries to do the right thing. While the ancient tragedy plays out on screen, a contemporary drama unfolds. Gavagai stars Jean-Christophe Folly, Maren Eggert, Nathalie Richard, and Anna Diakhere Thiandoum. This looks quite good! I’m surprised it didn’t show up at any other fests like Venice or TIFF, but I’m glad it’s getting a chance to shine now. Keep an eye out for this one.

Here’s the first official trailer for Ulrich Köhler’s film Gavagai, direct from Luxbox’s YouTube:

Extended intro via NYFF: “In this charged, unexpected metacinematic drama from German director Ulrich Köhler, a radical new movie production of Medea, drastically altered from Euripides’s original play, becomes the center of a series of unresolvable contemporary tensions. Nourou (Jean-Christophe Folly) and Maja (Maren Eggert) embody Jason and Medea on-screen, tussling with the film’s high-anxiety director (Nathalie Richard) during the shoot in Senegal, all the while negotiating an adulterous romance off-set. Later, at the film’s premiere in Berlin, Nourou, unresolved in his personal and professional life, has a rattling run-in with a racist security guard, which throws his—and the film’s—world off its axis… Gavagai is [Köhler’s] most ambitious and expansive film yet—a pinpoint-accurate account of moral crises and social biases, modern and ancient, internal and external.“

Gavagai is written and directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Ulrich Köhler, of the films Bungalow, Windows on Monday, Sleeping Sickness, In My Room, and A Voluntary Year. Produced by Ingmar Trost, Clément Duboin. This is premiering at the 2025 New York & Zurich Film Festivals this fall. It will open in German cinemas in January 2026 early next year. No US release is set yet – stay tuned. How does it look?

Meta created flirty chatbots using characteristics of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and others without consent

Meta has created flirty chatbots using the characteristics and likeness of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Scarlett Johansson and Anne Hathaway – without their consent.

According to an investigation by Reuters, the tech company used their names and traits to create AI chatbots – which have been publicly shared across Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp in recent weeks.

While some of these were created by Meta users using Meta tools, Reuters understands that a Meta employee had produced at least three, including two Taylor Swift “parody” bots.

Some of the content shared by these chatbots was also provocative, according to the outlet. When asked for intimate pictures of themselves, the chatbots posing as adult celebrities produced photorealistic images of the people they’re impersonating. This included AI-generated images of them posing in bathtubs or dressed in lingerie.

Additionally, Reuters also found that Meta was allowing users to create publicly available chatbots of child celebrities – including 16-year-old Walker Scobell. When asked for a photo from the beach, the AI bot produced a lifelike topless image. It then captioned it: “Pretty cute, huh?”

In response, Meta spokesman Andy Stone told the outlet that these AI chatbots were in violation of the company’s policies. He said: “Like others, we permit the generation of images containing public figures, but our policies are intended to prohibit nude, intimate or sexually suggestive imagery.”

Meta has deleted the chatbots prior to the publication of Reuters‘ report yesterday (August 29).

Legal experts have also told the outlet that Meta’s use of likenesses may have violated celebrities’ publicity rights.

Earlier this month, Neil Young quit Facebook over Meta’s reported “unconscionable use of chatbots with children”.

An admin for the Canadian musician’s official account shared a statement confirming that the account would no longer be used related to recent reports that the website’s AI technology permitted chatbots to “engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual.”

In other Meta-related news, Eminem is suing the company for the alleged unauthorised distribution of his music across its platforms.

As The Wrap reports, the multinational tech company – which operates Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp – has been accused of using the rapper’s songs without a valid license via its Reels Remix and Original Audio functions.
