The Final Mercury Retrograde Of 2025 Is Will Be Tough

Mercury’s backpedal starts with a conjunction to Mars in Sagittarius on November 12, setting the stage for an argument due to a confrontation over a misunderstanding. Mercury retrograde links up with Pluto in Aquarius on November 17, piling onto the issues from the 12th, a few days later. Matters can reach a fever pitch on the 17th, so tread lightly and don’t let conversations get too out of control. Mercury moves back into Scorpio on November 19, but moments after, Uranus retrograde in Taurus and Neptune retrograde in Pisces reveal secrets. The Sun forms a conjunction to Mercury retrograde on the 20th, a few hours before the New Moon. Saturn retrograde in Pisces and Jupiter retrograde in Cancer try to add structure to the vibe on November 22. However, we will break boundaries on the 24th when Venus and Mercury retrograde in Scorpio come together, forcing us to deal with situations and people from the old days.

Yes, this Mercury retrograde is going to be tough. The best way to thrive is not to gaslight ourselves. Acknowledging our feelings and not compromising our needs could create conflict with those not ready to hear them. We shouldn’t hold back our sentiments to avoid drama and to make others happy. Speaking our truth and being as direct as possible during Mercury retrograde is vital. We must clarify and simplify words several times to get our points across. IKYK miscommunications are rampant, so checking messages before sending for typos is essential. There could also be travel issues, so allotting ourselves an extra half hour to get to a destination helps lessen anxiety and stress.

This Mercurial moonwalk is going to fuel our tempers and emotions. All of the watery planets are making us long for the past. Just because the moment has slipped away doesn’t mean the merit is gone. The universe is giving us another chance to mend fences, heal our hearts, and look back and right our wrongs or attempt to make good on former promises. The Mercurial reckoning is here — are you ready?

Wayne Rooney has recalled transforming into Freddie Mercury at his early 40th birthday bash.

Wayne Rooney dressed as Freddie Mercury during his early 40th birthday bash

The 39-year-old former professional football player danced around a vacuum while he donned sexy heels, a black leather skirt, a sleeveless skintight pink top, magenta earrings and a black wig, to mimic the late Queen frontman’s iconic look in the band’s 1984 video for I Want to Break Free.

Wayne then took to the karaoke, but the fun for his wife Coleen – who organised the luxurious weekend away with friends to a plush lakeside estate in the Cotswolds, West Oxfordshire – was short-lived as she tripped from her heels and broke her foot.

The sportsman – who turns 40 on October 24 – said on the latest episode of his The Wayne Rooney Show podcast: “It was great, one night was fancy dress. I was Freddie Mercury. I wore high heels, a black leather skirt, a skintight t-shirt tucked in, and a hoover.

“So I was walking round with a hoover, but my feet were intact. Coleen actually slipped in her heels and broke her foot.

“It was great [weekend]. And we had different bands coming out, singing and performing and stuff. And I got up, obviously, it was good fun.

“I obviously done Bohemian Rhapsody. Me and My Monkey by Robbie Williams – that’s my go-to song.”

Wayne’s comments come as a source previously said he was “in his element” as Freddie – who died from bronchial pneumonia caused by AIDS at the age of 45 in November 1991.

The insider – who also said Coleen arranged for helicopters to whisk them and their pals to the stunning property in the Cotswolds – told The Sun: “Everyone knows Wayne really loves singing, but he was in his element as Freddie Mercury.

“He looked the part and blasted out some of Queen’s best-known tunes.”

Sam Fender wins 2025 Mercury Prize

Sam Fender has won the 2025 Mercury Prize.

Sam Fender has won the Mercury Prize

The 31-year-old musician has received the £25,000 prize for the best British or Irish album of the year for People Watching, and Sam subsequently admitted to feeling surprised by his own success.

Sam – who was visibly shocked when his name was announced to the audience – told the BBC: “I didn’t think that was going to happen at all. I’ve spent the last 10 minutes crying.”

Sam received a rapturous ovation from his hometown crowd at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.

The singer – who also received a nomination for his second record, Seventeen Going Under, back in 2022 – actually dedicated his accolade to Annie Orwin, his former mentor.

Sam – who earlier performed the title track of his award-winning album – said: “I was honoured and lucky enough to be with her in the last week of her life, and the title track was about her and about grief.

“Then the rest of the album is very much local stories, little pictures of Shields, and the people I’ve grown up with.

“So, very much like every other album I’ve done, but I think we got it right this time.”

This year’s awards ceremony was moved from London to Newcastle in an effort to make the music industry feel more inclusive, and less London-centric.

Jo Twist, the chief executive of the BPI, which organises the awards show, said: “Talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t.

“So it’s only right that we bring these large scale shows (outside London) to show there are opportunities within the music industry without having to move city.”

Sam felt particularly thrilled to receive the award in his home city, observing that Newcastle has “always been in an isolated bubble” from the rest of the UK music industry.

The singer – who overcame competition from the likes of Pulp and Wolf Alice to win the award – added: “So for it to be recognised is really important. Hopefully it can be the beginning of many other wonderful things.”

The full list of nominees for the 2025 Mercury Prize has been announced, with the shortlist including Sam Fender, Fontaines D.C., PinkPantheress and more.

Celebrating the work of both esteemed and emerging artists from U.K and Ireland, the Mercury Prize is awarded annually and recognizes artistic achievement in LPs across a range of genres. Recent winners include English Teacher (2024), Ezra Collective (2023), Little Simz (2022), Arlo Parks (2021) and Michael Kiwanuka (2020). Among those featured on the 12-strong shortlist are Fontaines D.C., who have enjoyed a banner year following the release of fourth LP Romance, in August 2024. The Irish band also received a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut album, 2019’s Dogrel, and have since gone on to headline London’s Finsbury Park as well as arenas across the U.K. and Ireland. Fontaines D.C. snagged best international group at the 2025 BRIT Awards, their second win in that category.

Sam Fender, who boasts 2025’s biggest opening week sales in the U.K. so far, is nominated for People Watching. The North Shields-born musician was previously nominated for his second LP Seventeen Going Under and performed a number of large headline shows this summer, including the 80,000-capacity London Stadium and Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park.

FKA twigs is also recognised for third LP EUSEXUA, her highest-charting record yet on the Billboard 200 (No. 24). CMAT’s Euro-Country, which recently peaked at No. 2 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, gives the Irish country-pop star her second nomination for a Mercury Prize following Crazymad, For Me (2023).

Wolf Alice’s The Clearing picks up a nod, and follows their 2018 victory for Visions of a Life. Pulp’s comeback LP More, their first since 2001, and PinkPantheress’ mixtape Fancy That also feature on the nominations list.

The list is rounded out by Jacob Alon’s In Limerance; Emma-Jean Thackray’s Weirdo; Joe Webb’s Hamstrings & Hurricanes; Martin Carthy’s Transform Me Then Into A Fish; and Pa Salieu’s Afrikan Alien. View the nominations in full below.

The 2025 awards show will be presented Oct. 16, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle – the first time the ceremony has been hosted outside of London in its 33 year history. The event will feature live performances from nominees and will culminate in the announcement of the overall winner.

The shortlist was revealed at a launch event for the British press, held in central London. It was also announced live on BBC Radio 6 Music by host Lauren Laverne. As the Mercury Prize’s broadcast partner, BBC Music will provide coverage of the event across TV, radio, and online.

Albums released between Jul. 13, 2024 and Aug. 29, 2025 were eligible for consideration this year. The 12 shortlisted albums were chosen by an independent judging panel chaired by Jeff Smith, head of music, BBC 6 Music & Radio 2.

This year’s committee consisted of: Danielle Perry – broadcaster & writer; Jamie Cullum – musician & broadcaster; Jamz Supernova – broadcaster & DJ; Lea Stonhill – music programming consultant; Mistajam – songwriter, DJ & broadcaster; Phil Alexander – creative director, Kerrang!/contributing editor, Mojo; Sian Eleri – broadcaster & DJ; Will Hodgkinson – chief rock & pop critic, The Times; and Sophie Williams – writer & broadcaster.
