‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner’s New Memoir in 10 Sentences

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

On Nov. 6, Gerry Turner, the 72-year-old bachelor from the first season of ABC’s The Golden Bachelor will release his memoir, Golden Years: What I’ve Learned From Love, Loss, and Reality TV.

Turner found himself on the show after his wife of nearly 45 years died suddenly and unexpectedly in 2017, and his two adult daughters suggested he apply to the show in 2020. The pandemic paused casting and other efforts to launch the series, but filming finally began in 2023.

Fans of the show may remember that Turner, a retired restaurateur, gave his golden rose to Theresa Nist, a 70-year-old financial services professional from New Jersey. The two married shortly after the finale aired in November 2023. Then, in another twist, they divorced after just three months of marriage in early 2024.

Say what you will about Turner’s aw-shucks, Midwestern ways (or the fact that his past may not be exactly as he claims), but the season was a hit for ABC, and the most watched of the Bachelor franchise since 2021. Time and again, audiences responded strongly to the depiction of seniors (especially older women) dating and finding love.

Turner’s memoir is mostly a retelling of his experience leading up to, during, and then shortly after taping of the show. The book reveals new details and slightly different versions of what viewers saw on TV, but ultimately, the sections sure to be most talked about relate to what took place afterwards, in which he badmouths his short-lived flame while lavishing praise on the show’s runner-up.

Here are ten of the book’s most illuminating passages:

On The Death Of His Wife

“Suddenly, shockingly, out of nowhere, the love of my life, my partner in all things for the last forty three years, was gone.”

Within a month of selling their Iowa home and retiring to a small, lakeside town in Indiana, Toni Turner’s health deteriorated quickly and she died of a kidney infection a few months shy of her 65th birthday. It’s later revealed that Toni had hidden from Gerry a Type-2 Diabetes diagnosis, which may have led to her death. Whatever the cause, Toni is brought up throughout the book, and her memory is clearly an inspiration and solace for Gerry.

On Fame And Representation

“Hey, man, I wanted to wish you luck,” he said. “You’re representing the men of America in this. It’s awesome to see you on TV, and I hope you find love.”

At an In-N-Out in Los Angeles, a man recognizes Turner and gives him his support. It’s a reprise that runs throughout the memoir.

On The Runner-Up

“The real red flag for me was her romantic history.”

Turner ultimately gave Theresa Nist the golden rose and the two married (if briefly). But the decision came down to Nist and Leslie Fhima. Turner claims that Fhima’s two previous divorces were a major red flag and one of the biggest reasons she didn’t win. Yet, Fhima is still in Turner’s life, while Nist…not so much.

On Meeting The Kardashians

“Kris and one of her daughters met me at the front door — if you can call it that — but I don’t know which one of them she was.”

During publicity for The Golden Bachelor, Turner made an appearance on Hulu’s The Kardashians. While Kendall Jenner says she’s a fan of The Bachelor franchise, Turner can’t return the compliment. He doesn’t know their names, who they are, etc. However, Turner reveals that, off camera, Kris Jenner asked him about getting hearing aids, and the two had a human moment about “the normal wear and tear on a person’s body at our age.”

On Pre-Nups and Cold Feet

“Two days before the wedding, I got a frantic call from my lawyer saying the document was not executable. One of her signatures was missing.”

With the cameras and the excitement gone, Turner admits that the strain of a long-distance relationship (forced to stay under wraps by the show’s producers) made him second-guess his decision to marry Nist. When Turner asked Nist (who works in finance) to sign a pre-nup, she initially balked at the request. When she finally relented, Nist missed some signatures, giving Turner pause.

On Consummating The Marriage

“My first night at her house, she took out sheets and pillows before telling me, ‘Tomorrow’s a big workday. I need a good night’s sleep. Do you mind sleeping on the sofa?’”

About a week after their wedding, Turner claims he drove from his home in Indiana to Nist’s home in New Jersey. Not only was he surprised by how small her house was (he claims she uses her stovetop as a vanity because — amongst other things — the lack of space), but was sensing a gap growing between them. That distance was most notable in their lack of physical intimacy.

On Ending Things

“Sitting about six feet from Theresa on a stone bench, I turned to her and asked, ‘So is it time to just call it quits?’”

Turner’s retelling of where and when he and Nist decided to end their marriage might seem a little too polished for some, leading to more questions than answers. As he writes, the two were spending time apart in their respective homes, then reunited in LA for Joey Graziadei’s “After The Final Rose” episode. Returning to their hotel, the newlyweds found a secluded bench, had a talk, and decided to divorce after only three months together. Was it really that easy and clean?

On Cancer And Post-Divorce

“…to be that insignificant to someone I had married, albeit briefly, was very painful. We no longer talk; we have no reason to.”

Shortly after his divorce from Nist, Turner was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer. He informed several friends and even some of the women from The Golden Bachelor, but the response he claims he got from Nist was muted and she only followed up with him a few times before they completely stopped talking.

On Questioning Motives

“There was something about the image of Theresa curled up on one of the couches, planning her strategy to win a rose, that made me feel sick to my stomach.”

In the aftermath of his brief marriage to Nist, Turner learns from multiple other contestants on the show that Nist was reading a book called “The Secret to Finding Love and Fame on America’s Favorite Reality Show.” As he claims, it made him completely question Nist’s motives for being on The Golden Bachelor and why she ever decided to marry him. Ouch.

On The Lingering Leslie Question

“Although I hate to admit it, every time I think about Leslie, I still get emotional.”

Turns out it should have been Leslie Fhima after all? According to Turner, he and Fhima saw each other during a taping of Celebrity FamilyFeud. After the show, the two had a quiet moment together that must have been electric enough for Fhima to say to Turner, “You still got it for me?” The two still regularly talk, though Turner claims they are just good friends. Then again, isn’t that the basis of all great loves?

Britney Spears Instagram De-Activated Amid KFed Memoir Headlines

Britney Spears‘ Instagram account has once again gone dark. Fans looking to get an update on the singer via her @britneyspears Insta page — featuring the screen name XILA MARIA RIVER RED — are not me with a message that reads: “Profile isn’t available. The link may be broken, or the profile my have been removed.”

According to a variety of reports, the Spears Insta account appeared to go dark on Saturday (Nov. 1) or Sunday (Nov. 2), two weeks after the singer’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline, released his tell-all memoir, You Thought You Knew, which features salacious and scandalous stories involving the pop star from their two-plus years of marriage.

At press time Spears had not made any comment about her Instagram retreat, which marked the latest incident of her wiping away her Instagram page. The pop star went away briefly in 2021, then again in 2022 (twice) and has periodically gone dark on her socials over the past few years. The latest retreat comes after Spears repeatedly seemed to lash out over the allegations in Federline’s book in a series of Instagram posts in mid-October in which she wrote, “Its fun to tell stories at this point because this all might sound so silly but with what garbage literally is being said about me I said why not bring SUBSTANCE to the table.” Before that, Spears lashed out in another post at what she deemed “constant gaslighting” from Federline, to whom she was married from 2004-2007.

A few days earlier, she took another shot at people who “profit off my pain,” without naming names, but seemingly alluding to her financial situation with her ex, writing, “no money from Britney for 5 years you trying to get paid that’s what general America is saying weird you both have moved on… your kids are adults it’s a different world now … why is HE SO ANGRY.”

According to People, for weeks Britney’s fans have expressed concern about the 43-year-old star’s condition as she’s continued to post her signature dance videos amid cryptic messages about the two sons she shared with Federline, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. In addition, in a video posted on Oct. 7, Spears appeared to have bruises on her arms, bandages on both hands and on her right knee.

“Psss I fell down the stairs at my friend’s house… it was horrible… it snaps out now and then, not sure if it’s broken but for now it’s snapped in !!!,” she wrote in a TikTok post featuring her injuries.

In an Oct. 19 post, Spears also wrote about a four-month rehab stint she spent in 2018 in the midst of her 13-year conservatorship, claiming that, “I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent… I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I’m blessed to be alive,” without elaborating on the time frame or nature of the reported brain injury.

Federline’s memoir features a variety of shocking claims about Spears, including allegations that she drank wine while she was pregnant with their children and did cocaine while she was breastfeeding. Spears’ team pushed back at the stories from the KFed memoir that leaked before publication, claiming that “once again he [Federline] and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

Hole and Smashing Pumpkins legend Melissa Auf der Maur announces memoir ‘Even the Good Girls Will Cry’

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has announced her memoir, Even The Good Girls Will Cry.

It will be Auf Der Maur’s first book and is described as a “part coming-of-age autobiography, part travel diary, part psychedelic scrapbook” and will also feature rare photos from throughout her career.

The memoir will be released via Da Capo on March 17, 2026 and you can pre-order/pre-save your copy here.

Auf Der Maur is seen as a pivotal figure in ’90s US alternative rock, and her career began as she was studying at university in Montreal when she formed the alternative rock band Tinker. She was recruited by Hole in 1994 and played on several records, including the 1998 classic ‘Celebrity Skin’. After leaving in 1999, she briefly joined The Smashing Pumpkins as touring member, and launched her solo career in 2004 with ‘Auf Der Maur’.

Auf Der Maur has said: “This book is about the decade that defined me and my generation, 1991-2001, and my life in the rock bands which allowed me to have a front row seat to an incredibly visceral and unforgettable moment in the counterculture.”

“It’s a love letter to the power of music and one-of-a-kind voices that make the world a cooler place; it’s also an ode to the analog, and what magic has been lost. Sharing what our generation witnessed, and what the world once was, in my hope of building a more livable future together.”

An official description of the book reads: “Even the Good Girls Will Cry begins with Auf der Maur’s bohemian upbringing in Montreal, where her early, deep connection to art and music gave her entry to the colorful and thriving local creative scene. Working as a cassette DJ and ticket girl, she would see (and sometimes meet) the luminaries who’d pass through town – Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, Pavement, Sonic Youth.”

“Thanks to a thrown beer bottle and a long-shot fan letter to a PO Box, her band Tinker scored a life-changing opening slot for The Smashing Pumpkins and, sensing her natural talent on bass, Billy Corgan recommended her to Courtney Love, just one of the many uncanny threads that weaves destiny throughout this riveting memoir.”

“Whisked from her local scene and thrust into the eye of a hurricane of grief on a global stage, Melissa joined Hole for the band’s 1994 ‘Live Through This’ world tour just after the deaths of Kurt Cobain and Hole’s prior bassist, Kristen Pfaff, with Courtney Love at the center of it all. It was a tour of passionate intensity, as a chaotic yet stunningly powerful band constantly threatened to spin out of control. Melissa brings the reader with raging intimacy into the action, offering a heroic portrait of the unforgettable Courtney Love as she howled into the darkness as if to keep grief at bay.”

This summer, Auf Der Maur reunited with Corgan at a show in Montreal for ‘The Everlasting Gaze’, with the bassist also taking the moment to address her hometown crowd in French.

She also got back in the studio with Courtney Love last year for the first time in over two decades, and the two joined forces in an appearance on 070 Shake’s cover of Tim Buckley’s ‘Song To The Siren’.

Love and Auf der Maur also appeared on stage together in October 2018 in Hudson, New York, playing Hole songs ‘Doll Parts’, ‘Miss World’ and ‘Softer Softest’.

Auf Der Maur also dated Dave Grohl between 1999 and 2001, and in 2023 she reflected on the relationship, saying: “We had this beautiful compatible couple of years where, I mean, we were madly in love.”

Melissa Auf Der Maur Looks Back With ‘Good’ Memoir

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Melissa Auf der Maur will chronicle her unique experiences playing bass during formative eras for both Hole and Smashing Pumpkins in her memoir, Even the Good Girls Will Cry, which will be released March 17 through Da Capo.

“This book is about the decade that defined me and my generation, 1991-2001, and my life in the rock bands which allowed me to have a front row seat to an incredibly visceral and unforgettable moment in the counterculture,” says the Montreal-born musician. “It’s a love letter to the power of music and one-of-a-kind voices that make the world a cooler place. It’s also an ode to the analog, and what magic has been lost. Sharing what our generation witnessed, and what the world once was, in my hope of building a more livable future together.”

Auf der Maur famously joined Hole for the band’s 1994 tour in support of the album Live Through This, mere weeks after the deaths of both frontwoman Courtney Love’s husband Kurt Cobain and Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff. She remained in the group for five years and was featured prominently on its 1998 album Celebrity Skin.

In 1999, Auf der Maur replaced D’arcy Wretzky in Smashing Pumpkins and played with the Billy Corgan-led group for a year before its dissolution. She went on to release a riff-heavy, self-titled 2004 solo album and its follow-up, Out of Our Minds, six years later. Auf der Maur and her husband, filmmaker Tony Stone, now own the upstate New York venue Basilica Soundscape.

“All my musical friends know I’ve loved heavy music since 1990, but I guess I look more like an art teacher than a person who loves hard rock,” Auf Der Maur told SPIN in 2004. “What’s so crazy is that I grew up so androgynous and so one of the guys. I started playing bass because I wasn’t that cute. I used to work as a DJ in a bar, and my guy friends were like, hey, do you wanna comedown and play live music and drink beer?’ That’s how I got into this.”

Britney Spears’ rep responds to ex Kevin Federline’s memoir allegations – National

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Britney Spears is responding to her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s allegations against her in his upcoming memoir, which include that she watched her sons sleep “with a knife in her hand.”

“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” a representative for Spears, 43, told Entertainment Weekly in response to excerpts released from Federline’s upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew.

“All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir,” her rep added of her 2023 book, The Woman in Me.

Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, expressed concern for Spears and their sons, Sean Preston Federline, 20, and Jayden James Federline, 19, in excerpts shared with the New York Times.

“We haven’t spoken in years,” Federline, 47, told the New York Times in an interview. But in his memoir, due Oct. 21, he reportedly writes about becoming concerned with what he describes as Spears’ “erratic behavior, which he learned about mostly secondhand from their two sons.”

“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand,” he alleges in the excerpt provided to the New York Times. “Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.

“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible,” he added.

“It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK,” Federline continued. “From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”

He also suggested that all the fans who put their energy and efforts into the “Free Britney” movement should “now put the same energy into the ‘Save Britney’ movement.”

“Because this is no longer about freedom. It’s about survival,” he added.

Federline told the Times that he had not discussed the contents of his new memoir with Spears.

“I’ve never, ever, once, been against Britney,” he said. “I’ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother. And it’s hard because when I really reflect on everything that’s happened — my kids do not know the woman that I married. And I’ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.”

In August 2022, Spears responded to Federline‘s “hurtful” claims about her relationship with their sons.

Federline said the relationship between Spears and their two shared sons had become distant in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now. It’s been a few months since they’ve seen her,” Federline told the British publication.

Federline claimed the boys decided on their own accord not to attend their mother’s wedding to her now ex-husband Sam Asghari. Federline said that, regardless, the boys were “happy” for their mother.

“This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else,” Federline said in the interview, referring to Spears’ conservatorship battle. “It’s been tough. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.”

Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021. Contrary to popular opinion, Federline said he believed the conservatorship held by Spears’ father Jamie “saved” the Toxic singer.

“I saw this man that really cared, and really cares about his family and wanting everything to be OK,” Federline said. “When Jamie took over, things got into order. He saved her life.”

Spears responded to Federline’s claims on her Instagram story.

“It saddens me to hear that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children,” she wrote.

“As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone .. It concerns me the fact that the reason is based on my Instagram … it was LONG before Instagram,” Spears continued. “I gave them everything. Only one word: HURTFUL … I’ll say it … My mother told me ‘You should GIVE them to their dad.’ I’m sharing this because I can. Have a good day folks!!!”

Spears and Federline met in 2004 when he was a dancer in a Hollywood club. They married later that year, but divorced in 2006, shortly after the birth of their second son.

Priscilla Presley was with Elvis Presley for around 14 years before they split; however, the pair had known each other for years before they wed in 1967.

The time in between and following Priscilla and Elvis’ divorce was a tough spot for Priscilla, and one she wasn’t super open about — that is, until now. In her new memoir Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, the actress shares the difficult but inspiring journey beyond the walls of Graceland post-split with the King, choosing to put herself and her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, first.

Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis

A new memoir by Priscilla Presley.

If you didn’t know, Priscilla met Elvis when she was just 14 and he was 24. The singer was serving in the U.S. Army in 1959 in Germany. The pair remained romantically connected for years, even with distance between them and in 1967, they were wed in a simple and very secret ceremony in Las Vegas. While their separation in 1973 was painful for Priscilla, this novel highlights why it was so important for the Naked Gun star to leave.

It seems that Priscilla lost touch with herself throughout her relationship with Elvis. Leaving allowed her to find herself again. Through the book, we are treated to snippets of Priscilla’s life pre- and post-Elvis and how she had to reinvent herself a second time as the single mother after the performer’s death in 1977.

Today, we are taken through how Priscilla was able to transform Graceland into an international destination and helped guide the development of Elvis Presley Enterprises, turning the King’s legacy into a full-on business. If you are an Elvis fan, this gives readers a unique perspective on his life, as told by his ex-wife. It also gives Priscilla’s story more context for those who aren’t too familiar with her life and career.

Priscilla Presley’s Bombshell Memoir on MJ, Scientology, Lisa Marie

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Forty years after her first memoir, Elvis and Me, revolutionized the modern-day lore surrounding the King of Rock & Roll and his young bride, Priscilla Presley has released a new book that picks up where her last one left off.

In Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, the actress and author known mononymously as Priscilla delves into the life she forged for herself in the decades after she met Elvis at age 14, married him at age 21, and left the music legend in 1972. The new book, released Tuesday, is filled with heartache and loss. It follows the once deeply enigmatic first lady of Graceland from Memphis to Hollywood, through several subsequent relationships, and into the depths of her sorrow over the 2023 loss of her daughter Lisa Marie, her only child with Elvis.

While much of the book takes readers through the well-worn milestones of Priscilla’s highly scrutinized life, several passages give intimate new details. Here’s what we learned:

1. It was Elvis who first mentioned the possibility of abortion after Priscilla got pregnant

When Priscilla ended up getting pregnant on the couple’s wedding night, she was “stunned,” she writes. “Neither Elvis nor I was ready for a child. He worried about what fatherhood would do to his career. His fans were still adjusting to him being a married man,” she says.

Priscilla confesses she was concerned, too, worrying what parenthood would mean for her fledgling marriage. “There would be no traveling, no romantic interludes for us to focus on each other. For weeks, Elvis and I worried in silence about what was to come,” she writes. She even fantasized about how she’d feel if she miscarried. But, according to the book, “it was Elvis who finally brought things to a head.”

Editor’s picks

“He looked at me one day and asked if I wanted to have an abortion,” she reveals. “He told me he’d support whatever I wanted. His words were a wake-up call. The enormity of it hit me head-on, and I began to cry. I told him, ‘No! We can’t do that. This is our baby!’” After Lisa Marie was born, “we fell hopelessly in love with her. We could not imagine our lives without her,” she writes.

2. Elvis once called while she was in bed with Robert Kardashian

Priscilla famously dated Robert Kardashian, father of reality star Kim Kardashian, in 1975, a few years after her divorce from Elvis. She writes that Elvis would have been jealous of the relationship, so she concealed the fact she was in bed with the telegenic lawyer when Elvis called one night at 2 a.m. to boast about a performance. She leapt out of the covers and tiptoed down the hall to take the call in private.

“Despite our divorce, he still couldn’t wrap his head around my being with someone else. He’d have gone ballistic, maybe literally, if he’d known Robert was in my bedroom,” she writes. “Elvis always carried a loaded gun, sometimes more than one. I put my hand over my mouth to stifle the sound of my yawn while Elvis continued to talk.”

3. She says Robert Kardashian wanted to marry, and Kim connected them before he died

Presley says Kardashian wanted to tie the knot, but they weren’t a good match. Twenty years later, when Kardashian defended O.J. Simpson in his murder case, Priscilla believed it was crushing for the famed attorney, who was incredibly loyal. “The realization that his friend had committed the murders nearly destroyed him,” she writes. (Simpson was acquitted at his criminal trial but later found liable for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, at a civil trial.)

Related Content

Priscilla claims that when Kardashian was in the hospital, dying from esophageal cancer in 2003, Kim Kardashian called to connect the two one last time. “Robert and I had one last conversation before he died. He was the kindest of men, and I remember him with great affection,” Priscilla writes.

4. She considered Michael Jackson a “manipulative man”

When Lisa Marie married Michael Jackson in a secret ceremony on May 26, 1994, Priscilla was “appalled,” she writes. She believed Jackson, who was 10 years older than Lisa Marie and a big fan of Elvis, was using her daughter for positive publicity as he battled allegations of child molestation.

“I knew in my bones that Michael wasn’t marrying Lisa Marie; he was marrying the Presley dynasty. The King of Pop was allying himself with the King of Rock & Roll. I didn’t believe he loved her,” Priscilla writes. “Michael was a manipulative man, and I think he had his sights set on her long before she realized it.”

5. Priscilla counseled Lisa Marie against having a baby with Jackson

During a walk on a beach in Hawaii, Lisa Marie allegedly turned to her mom and confided, “Michael wants us to have a child.” Priscilla immediately opposed the idea, recommending her daughter take things slow, she writes.

“I didn’t trust his motives. A child would be a proof of virility. And I couldn’t help wondering if he wanted to have Elvis’s grandchild,” she says, adding that Lisa Marie told her the newlyweds did indeed have a physical relationship, but that she “hardly” saw her new husband.

“Michael says that if I don’t want to have a baby, Debbie Rowe will have one with him,” Lisa Marie purportedly told her mom, according to the memoir. “Oh, boy. Big red flag. Thank God, Lisa agreed with me that it was better to wait,” Priscilla writes.

Lisa Marie filed for divorce from Jackson on Jan. 18, 1996, less than two years after the marriage. “She had begun to feel like the marriage was a setup. He didn’t want to be with her; he wanted to be with Elvis Presley’s daughter. If he’d wanted to be with her, he wouldn’t have been gone for most of their marriage.”

6. She says Lisa Marie’s bitter custody battle led to their estrangement

Priscilla writes that the year she had legal guardianship of her twin granddaughters, Harper and Finley, was one of “the best and most difficult” of her life. She cherished the time with the eight-year-old girls, but it only hardened Lisa Marie’s stance that she wanted sole custody of the twins amid a bitter divorce. In a “last-ditch” effort to fulfill her goal, Lisa Marie asked Priscilla to sign a deposition supporting her allegations that her estranged husband, Michael Lockwood, was unfit to be around them, Priscilla writes. (The memoir doesn’t specifically list the allegations, but Lockwood reportedly was investigated and cleared of claims that he had inappropriate photos of minors on his computer.)

According to Priscilla, her relationship with Lisa Marie suffered a devastating blow when she refused to sign the deposition. “I told her I couldn’t sign it, for I had never seen Michael behave in the harmful ways she was alleging. Signing it would be perjury,” Priscilla says. “In Lisa’s mind, I was the last hope to prove her charges. The court’s investigations of Michael had failed to reveal any wrongdoing or neglect on his part, so she had exhausted her legal options. Now I was refusing to back her up in court. To her, it was a betrayal.”

7. She suggests Scientology had a negative effect on Lisa Marie

In recounting Lisa Marie’s struggle with addiction, Presley says her daughter’s drug use climbed as high as 80 pills a day during her breakup with Lockwood. Lisa Marie was in a downward spiral, and she desperately needed professional help after stepping away from the Church of Scientology, Priscilla writes.

“Though she had left the church, she retained some of its beliefs, including a distrust of psychologists,” Priscilla says. “She was still opposed to therapy, which would have given her a potential outlet for her feelings.”

Lisa Marie went into rehab in 2016. In a Today show interview in 2018, she recounted her struggles. “I was not happy,” she admitted in the interview. “I have a therapist, and she said, ‘You are a miracle, you really are.’ She said, ‘I don’t know how you’re still alive.’”
