3 Members of Meet the Putmans Family Killed in Car Accident

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

The Putmans, the family made famous on the TLC reality show Meet the Putmans, asked for prayers in an Instagram post on Sunday as they announced that three members of the family had died in a car crash and several others were in the hospital.

“Our family was in a tragic car accident, and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan,” Isabelle, a member of the family, wrote in a letter shared on the @growingupputman Instagram account. “They have gone home to be with the Lord.”

TMZ reports Papa and Neenee were nicknames for Bill and Barb Putman, the heads of the family.

Five other members of the family were injured, Isabelle said. “Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital,” Isabelle wrote. “We are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them.”

The crash happened Friday in Ellington Township, Michigan, as the driver of a semi truck failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a Jeep with the eight Putmans inside, according to WNEM. As the five injured Putmans were taken to the hospital via ambulance — with some in critical condition — the driver of the semi was arrested, according to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office.

In their time of heartbreak, the surviving family members — including Billy, Jen, Brandon, Kacie, Jamie, Blair, Abby, Emma, Addison, Bella, Mercy, Gabby, Mya, Nova, Jonah, Eli, Solomon, Uriah, Samson, Luke, and Anna — are relying on their faith, Isabelle said.

“We ask for your continued prayers for Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia as they recover, and for our whole family as we walk through this deep loss,” Isabelle added.

TLC’s Meet the Putmans aired its only season in 2017. The show followed Bill and Barb, who’d been married for 32 years at the time, as they lived with their children and grandchildren.

“This 25-person family lives under one roof, shares one bathroom, pools all of their finances, and helps raise all of the kids as one family unit,” TLC said in a press release. “Each episode will not only detail the little things that test this large household, but also highlight those extreme ‘for better or worse’ moments they experience as both couples and a family.”

Following the TLC show, the Putmans returned in a 2021 web series titled Growing Up Putman, People reports.

Refused Forming New Band With Same Members After Last Shows

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

After their final shows as a unit in December. the four members of Refused will all remain together in a brand new band. Drummer David Sandström broke the news on Instagram while announcing details of their last gigs in their native Sweden before the end of the year.

“We ([guitarist] Mattias [Bärjed], [bassist] Magnus [Flagge], [vocalist] Dennis [Lyxzen] and me) want to explore that — a band with no baggage, no fans to please, limited only by our wildest musical hopes and dreams,” he said without elaborating on the project’s name or specific timeline. “We’re very excited about getting around to taming this new wild beast.”

Addressing why they couldn’t just carry on as Refused, Sandström admitted, “Refused was never good for mine and Dennis’ relationship. We both have our own idea of what the band should be and how we should behave and never the twain shall meet. And we’d rather be friends than play in a popular band.”

As they near the conclusion of their farewell tour, which resumes Oct. 1 in Glasgow, Refused have also set the lineups for the last eight gigs in Sweden, which will boast some of their oldest friends from the global hardcore scene as openers. Among them are Harrowed, Division of Laura Lee, Millencolin, Abhinanda, Final Exit, Nix and Dream Warriors.

“We’re bringing Youth Code over from L.A. to join us, a band we love both artistically and socially,” Sandström said. “Whenever i want listen to some really intense, violent new hardcore I always end up listening to Youth Code instead, and I can’t think of a band that better embodies the maelstrom of hatred and insanity that is presently consuming the U.S.”

He continued, “you have a pretty glorious marriage of old and new, of underground and established, of traditionalists and risk-takers, and nothing could sum up our band more than this amazing catalog of bands. This is going to be an absolute blast of a finale.”

Refused formed in 1991 and split following their landmark 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come, but they reunited in 2012 and have been active in the studio and on the road ever since. Lyxzen suffered a heart attack in June 2024 but recovered sufficiently for Refused to begin touring again earlier this year.

“A few people have insinuated that like some other bands who, in the fashion of the great Larry David, quit with bells, whistles (and blood raining from a lacerating sky) only to return within a few years as if nothing had happened, Refused would do the same. Well, we won’t, and I feel the need to elucidate,” Sandström said. “We only broke up once and it was involuntary. Most of you might not remember but at the end of our reunion year [in] 2012, we kept things ambiguous in our final statement (‘The hatchet is buried … we’re going home’) for plausible deniability, because we weren’t sure our attempt at a permanent reunion would fly. It did, but only so far.”

Refused Announce Last-Ever Shows, Unveil Plans to Form New Band with Same Members

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Legendary hardcore band Refused have announced the final shows of their ongoing farewell tour, set to take place in their home country of Sweden. Additionally, drummer David Sandström has revealed plans for the members of Refused to form a new band.

After embarking on a a fall tour of UK and Europe in October, as well as playing three shows in South America, Refused will end their career with eight shows in Sweden, culminating with a final concert in their hometown of Umea on December 21st. Each of the gigs in Sweden will feature a different combination of opening acts, with Youth Code among them.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Sandström explained why Refused are breaking up, citing the band’s negative effect on his friendship with singer Dennis Lyxzén, while announcing plans for the new band:

“Hello, this is David speaking. A few people have insinuated that like some other bands who, in the fashion of the great Larry David, quit with bells, whistles (and blood raining from a lacerating sky) only to return within a few years as if nothing had happened, Refused would do the same. Well, we won’t, and i feel the need to elucidate.

We only broke up once and it was involuntary. Most of you might not remember but at the end of our reunion year 2012 we kept things ambigious in our final statement: “The hatchet is buried … we’re going home”, for plausible deniability, because we weren’t sure our attempt at a permanent reunion would fly. It did, but only so far. The reasons for ending the band are legion, but the two most important ones are:

1. Refused was never good for mine and Dennis’ relationship, we both have our own idea of what the band should be and how we should behave and never the twain shall meet. And we’d rather be friends than play in a popular band.

2. A new band has been born within the band and we (Mattias, Magnus, Dennis and me) want to explore that, a band with no baggage, no fans to please, limited only by our wildest musical hopes and dreams. We’re very excited about getting around to taming this new wild beast.

But before all that, we have some business to attend to. The last of the last shows are soon upon us and it’s come together better than we could have hoped for. The lineups are stacked with old friends, comrades and collaborators as well as some of the best newer bands in the heavy, punk and/or violent music spectrum.”

The post continues with details about the various opening acts, before signing off with, “This is going to be an absolute blast of a finale… Go tell it on the mountain.”

Members of Pussy Riot sentenced to jail in Russia for anti-war performances

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Five members of Pussy Riot have been sentenced in absentia to prison in Russia on charges relating to anti-war performances that critiqued the country’s military actions.

  • Read More: Who are Pussy Riot? A guide to the Russian activist group who crashed the World Cup Final

Reports from Mediazona – the outlet co-founded by band members in the feminist punk collective – which Rolling Stone later corroborated, revealed the members sentenced included Maria Alyokhina, Diana Burkot, Taso Pletner, Olga Borisova, and Alina Petrova.

The jail terms handed down at Moscow’s Basmanny District Court ranged from eight to 13 years, with the charges stemming from a December 2022 music video titled ‘Mama, Don’t Watch TV’, which authorities alleged spread “false information” about the Russian military killing Ukrainian civilians, as well as a later performance held in April 2024. Pussy Riot were in Munich, Germany, at that time, and one member had reportedly urinated on a portrait of Vladimir Putin.

Through the band’s legal representatives, the five Pussy Riot members rejected the charges, claiming the trial and sentences are politically motivated in a statement given to Rolling Stone.

Burkot said that as the writer behind the music heard in ‘Mama, Don’t Watch TV’, she stood “by every single word, and my anti-war stance is clear.”

“The full-scale war against Ukraine has been going on for more than three years. And I continue to believe: Ukraine must win, and Putin must face trial in The Hague,” Burkot added. “The Russian government is a textbook example of patriarchy — the worst kind of abuser: a tyrant, a narcissist, a gaslighter, a toxic manipulator who lives off the destruction of others’ will.”

She  then urged “every person in this world to use their voice,” and went on to say that collective activism was the only way to “resist and overcome the crisis of democracy”.

Burkot said that thankfully, the Russian government has “no access to my physical body,” but that “even if I were in Russia, I would say the same thing: go fuck yourself.”

Pussy Riot first gained notoriety for their 2012 protest piece, ‘A Punk Prayer’, which was a response to accusations of electoral fraud and rigging in Putin’s re-election. The protest resulted in the imprisonment of members Alyokhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova, though they were released early in light of an amnesty bill passed shortly before Russia hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Since then, members of the collective have staged multiple protests, including a performance at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, a pitch invasion during the 2018 World Cup Finals, and at the Indiana State Capitol, in response to the US Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. The same year, Tolokonnikova released the debut Pussy Riot mixtape ‘Matriarchy Now’.

In 2023, the Pussy Riot collective were awarded with the Woody Guthrie Prize. Tolokonnikova has also teamed up with various artists over the last few years, including a single with Avenged Sevenfold, a collaboration with Nova Twins, and a whole mixtape executive produced by Tove Lo, which featured guest spots from Salem Ilese, Big Freedia, Hudson Mohawke and iLoveMakonnen.

A scripted television series about Pussy Riot was also announced in 2023 by Nadya Tolokonnikova, who expressed her ambition with the show to “inspire a new generation of rebels”.

Following the news that Ego Nwodim was leaving Saturday Night Live, the reactions started to pour in.

Nwodim, who joined SNL in 2018, announced on social media on Friday that she was exiting the sketch comedy series after seven seasons.

“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL,” she captioned an Instagram post. “I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!”

Soon after the news broke, messages came through the comments from several former and current SNL stars as well as other celebrities.

Cecily Strong, who left the show in 2022 after 11 seasons, commented: “Just texted you but I also want to say it loud and proud here: it was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it.”

Chloe Fineman, who is coming back for season 51, wrote, “One of the best to ever do it my friend. GOAT.” Also returning is Bowen Yang, who took to his Instagram Story to share a photo of Nwodim, writing: “the best.”

Other notable stars who shared reactions included Jack Black, who commented on Nwodim’s post, “Mic drop,” Together star Alison Brie wrote, “Congrats on an incredible run!!,” while Amber Ruffin wrote, “Congratulations! As long as I can still watch you perform, I’m good!”

The announcement came after NBC seemingly confirmed who was returning for season 51, and Nwodim was included. In addition to Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, Devon Walker and John Higgins are not returning for the upcoming season.

Longfellow shared a picture of himself and Nwodim on his Instagram Story, and Walker posted a video of Nwodim and him from the Kinds of Kindness red carpet premiere in New York last summer.

SNL‘s 51st season will debut Oct. 4.

TV Academy Sets AI Guidelines For Members As Hollywood On Edge About Tech

TV Academy Sets AI Guidelines For Members As Hollywood On Edge About Tech

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

EXCLUSIVE: A Television Academy task force developing what it calls “responsible AI and production standards” has finalized a set of guidelines for members, Deadline has learned.

The three pillars of the guidelines, Academy officials say, are “creative integrity,” “permissions, licenses, legal and commercial viability”; and “accountability, transparency and sustainability.”

The document resulted from a survey of the organization’s 30,000-plus members. Plans call for rolling them out to the membership following Sunday’s Primetime Emmys.

Generative AI has been the third rail of Hollywood since the arrival of ChatGPT and the labor impasse of 2023, when SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild went on strike amid widespread anxiety about AI eliminating industry jobs. Anxiety over copyright protection continues to run high, with Disney, NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery filing lawsuits against AI image creator Midjourney, one of several legal cases being closely tracked across Hollywood.

The Academy’s task force was led by Christina Lee Storm, governor of the Academy’s Emerging Media Programming peer group, co-chair of the Advocacy Committee, and a member of the Innovation Advisory Committee. She is also a noted producer and co-founder of tech consultancy Playbook PLBK.

Speaking with Deadline this week during the Toronto Film Festival, Storm said the prevailing attitude toward GenAI in the creative community has changed significantly over the past 24 months.

“Two years ago, the Television Academy did an AI Summit [with] a lot of disgruntled folks,” she said, and participants were “not quite understanding the tools, or reading the headlines saying, ‘It’s going to take over everything.’

“This year, we had a lot more people come and be much more open to it, because what we’re seeing – as more and more people are using these tools – is that it’s advancing certain pieces [of the craft], but it’s not advancing everything,” Storm added.

“The need to have a filmmaking language, filmmaking understanding, and all of the [human] traits that are a part of the process – and have always been a part of the process – is crucial.”

According to Lee, the three board-approved ‘Key Principles’ at the heart of the task force’s findings are:

1) Creative integrity for professionals, creators, performers and craftspeople

How does my decision to use GenAI support and respect the work of the artists and collaborators on this project, including writers, performers, directors, producers, and craftspeople? Have they been informed and are properly credited or compensated for their contributions?

2) Permissions, licenses, legal and commercial viability

Is the AI model I’m using trained on ethically sourced, properly licensed and clean data, and not pirated or publicly available content without prior consent or permission from copyright owners? (Storm noted Anthropic’s $1.5 billion settlement, announced Monday, paid out to authors whose work was used without permission.)

3) Accountability, transparency and sustainability

How will I disclose transparency to the production team, distributors, clients, or stakeholders about when, where, and how GenAI was used in the project?

For now, the principles are just recommendations, Storm explained, and the Academy is “not necessarily mandating things per se.” However, the input process involved all 31 of the Academy’s peer groups, a wide spectrum including animators, casting directors, VFX artists and writers.

“The Television Academy recognizes the need for ethical, responsible rules of engagement for the use of Generative AI in television,” Maury McIntyre, president and CEO of the Television Academy, told Deadline. “We commend the Academy’s Innovation Advisory Committee for the development of these Key Considerations and we are committed to educating our members, our colleagues, and our elected representative on how to navigate, adapt and preserve creative integrity as the industry moves forward.”

The news from the TV industry follows a move by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last April to update its rules for Oscar consideration. That decision came after a contentious awards season featuring several AI scandals, including one that dogged Best Picture nominee The Brutalist. AMPAS stated, in somewhat vague terms, that the use of AI and other generative tools would “neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination” going forward.

Storm joined a TIFF AI panel on Monday that also featured Nikola Todorovic, co-founder of Tye Sheridan’s AI, 3D and VFX platform Wonder Dynamics; and Ángel Manuel Soto, the Puerto Rican filmmaker whose credits include DC’s Blue Beetle and HBO Max’s Menudo: Forever Young. Also on the panel was Seungwoo Kim, creator of CJ ENM’s Cat Biggie, a fully GenAI-based 3D animated series; and Don Allen Stevenson III, the creative and AI research lead at Asteria and Moonvalley, which develops workflows for the emerging arena of “ethical” AI in filmmaking.

NATPE Appoints New Executive Board, With Members Spanning Linear TV And Streaming

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Two years after its trade shows were acquired by new owners, the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) has appointed a new executive board.

The execs come from a range of top media and technology companies, spanning the worlds of linear TV and streaming. The board will guide NATPE’s long-term strategy as it looks to continue growing its two main events, NATPE Global in Miami and NATPE Budapest.

Joining the board are Brad Beale, Head of Worldwide Content Licensing & Distribution, Amazon MGM Studios; Kevin Beggs, Chair and Chief Creative Officer, Lionsgate Television Group; Michael Bonner, President, Global TV Distribution, NBCUniversal; Val Boreland, President, Entertainment, Versant; Flory Bramnick, EVP, Distribution, Sony Pictures Television; Brandon Brito, Senior Programming Executive, Apple TV+; Dan Cohen, Former Chief Content Licensing Officer, Paramount Global Content Distribution; Lori Conkling, Vice President, Licensing, Netflix; David Decker, President, Content Sales, Warner Bros. Discovery; Elaine Frontain-Bryant, EVP, Head of Programming, A&E and Lifetime; and Rebecca Glashow, Chief Executive Officer, BBC Global Media & Streaming, BBC Studios

Canadian media and events firm Brunico, whose brands include Realscreen, acquired NATPE out of bankruptcy in 2023. After a return to Miami in 2024, it was combined with Realscreen’s programming-focused conference in 2025, with that dual approach set again for February 2 to 6, 2026.

The executive board will be distinct from NATPE’s annual content advisory boards, officials said, and will focus on broader issues like global market navigation, strategic expansion, and industry connectivity.

“This board embodies the innovative, cross-platform spirit that defines today’s content landscape,” said Claire Macdonald, SVP and Executive Director, NATPE. “Their collective insight will be critical as NATPE continues evolving into a truly global hub for content commerce and creative collaboration.”

Yungblud to join Aerosmith members for all-star Ozzy Osbourne tribute at MTV VMAs 2025

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Yungblud will join the members of Aerosmith for a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at the MTV VMAs this weekend.

  • READ MORE: Ozzy Osbourne, 1948-2025: culture-smashing revolutionary that redefined rock and reality TV

The 42nd Video Music Awards are taking place in the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York on Sunday night (September 7), and a portion of the show will pay tribute to the late Black Sabbath frontman, who passed away in July at the age of 76.

Yungblud will join forces with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, as well as Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt during the ceremony for a medley of Osbourne’s greatest hits.

The VMAs will be broadcast live on CBS and MTV from 8pm ET in the US, while UK viewers will be able to watch it on Comedy Central and MTV at 9pm on Monday night (September 8).

Yungblud was a part of the ‘Back To The Beginning’ Black Sabbath farewell show in Birmingham in July, an event that took on extra poignancy when Osbourne died less than three weeks later. Yungblud led a supergroup that also included Bettencourt, as well as II from Sleep Token and Adam Wakeman of Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band.

They performed the Sabbath ballad ‘Changes’, and after Osbourne’s death, Yungblud vowed to play the song at every show “for the rest of my life”, adding: ““To sing this song for you at an event surrounded by legends inspired by you to a crowd who loved you was truly my life’s greatest honour.”

Yungblud also posted an emotional tribute to Osbourne, saying: “You have been my North Star for everything for as long as I can remember from when I was misunderstood as a child to the way people thought I was just a little ‘too much’ or ‘strange’ in my life and career.”

He later spoke to NME about the impact that Ozzy has had on his career. “Ozzy was a character in my life who was a reflection of everything I went through,” he said. “I was always a bit over the top. I was always seen to be a bit crazy. I was always seen to be a bit loud, but when some people saw that as a negative, Ozzy would provide me with the hope that there was an avenue for someone like me in the world.

“From such a young age, he really inspired me. Then, to know him as a friend towards the end, to know his heart, and to know Sharon Osbourne… I really started to understand that they did things their way. It’s always been inspirational because, for me, the biggest enemy to any artist or anything is the phrase, ‘This is just how it’s done’. That’s a cop out. ‘This is how it’s done’ was once an innovative idea that got stale.

“All I care about are the people outside, and I want to make this the most magical adventure for them, and something that we’re gonna have together. [Ozzy’s death] is still raw at the minute. It’s been a very weird couple of weeks. But losing someone I admired and got to know really made me think about the idea of legacy and connection with people. All that matters is the connection with them.”

Yungblud also broke down in tears during a performance of ‘Changes’ in the US recently, while Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler described one of his shows as the “best” he’d seen in years.

Elsewhere at the VMAs, Lady Gaga will be performing there for the first time in five years, joining the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, J Balvin and Busta Rhymes. Check out the full list of VMAs nominations here.

The message read, in part, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes, it was really cool. Sometimes, it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f**ked up lil family.”

Devon labeled his note,  “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?” leaving the reason behind his exit up in the air. However, Emil revealed in his own statement that he was told he would not return for season 51, implying that he and the others may have been fired.

“I won’t be returning to SNL next year,” Emil confirmed in his Instagram statement. “It was a gut punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there.”

Michael also expressed that his release from the show was a bummer for him. He wrote in an Instagram carousel, “Will not be returning for a 4th season at SNL. Wish I was, but so it goes. It was the best three years of my life so far. I feel nothing but gratitude for the experience and everyone there. Lorne, you gave me the greatest job in the world and changed my life. You even put my mom on TV. Thank you doesnt begin to cover it, but thank you. I’ll miss it all, but I’ll miss the friends I made and seeing them everyday the most.”

Despite the heartbreaking news, it’s actually normal for SNL to cycle through different comedians. After almost each season, the show hires new faces once veterans leave.

Who Is in the SNL Season 51 Cast?

Only James Austin Johnson was confirmed to be returning for season 51 by Lorne Michaels, himself. The rest of the cast presumably still features the following names who were in season 50:
