Sir Paul McCartney blasts COP30 climate change conference for serving meat

Sir Paul McCartney blasts COP30 climate change conference for serving meat

6 November 2025

Sir Paul McCartney has urged COP30 organisers not to serve meat at the climate change conference.

Sir Paul McCartney has questioned the decision to serve meat at the COP30 climate change conference

The Beatles legend – a prominent vegetarian and animal rights activist – has written an open letter on behalf of animal rights group PETA to COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago about the decision to serve meat to guests at the event – which begins next week in Belem, Brazil.

McCartney penned: “I’m writing on behalf of my friends at PETA to ask you to align COP30’s menu with its mission by making it all vegetarian. This would greatly reduce its carbon footprint and overall environmental impact, setting a positive example for the world to follow.”

The 83-year-old musician was shocked by the lack of vegetarian options for guests, particularly with the grave threat that climate change poses to Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest.

The Let It Be artist said: “It is fitting that COP30 will be held in Belem, the gateway to the Amazon, whose rainforest is often called ‘the lungs of the Earth’ because it absorbs and stores massive amounts of carbon dioxide while releasing oxygen.

“Protecting the life-sustaining Amazon must be a top priority for environmentalists of all nationalities, so I was shocked to learn that only 40 per cent of the food served at COP30 is currently slated to be vegetarian.”

Paul couldn’t help but point out the irony of serving meat at an event designed to help the environment.

He quipped: “Serving meat at a climate summit is like handing out cigarettes at a cancer-prevention conference! The animal agriculture industry is a top driver of deforestation and the climate catastrophe that is wreaking havoc on the planet.”

McCartney concluded: “COP30’s own website confirms that plant-based meals have a substantially lower carbon footprint, so I urge you to lead by example and make the conference all vegetarian.”

Paul and his late wife Linda McCartney became vegetarians in 1975 and the music icon is proud to have been a pioneer of a diet that is now adopted by millions of people worldwide.

He said: “It was a joint decision, definitely. We were both quite happy eating meat, because she was a great cook, and we didn’t really think about it until we were on the farm one day eating a lamb dinner and both realised that the lambs outside were what we were eating. We didn’t like that.

“We said, ‘Shall we try going vegetarian?’ And actually, it was a very exciting point in our lives, trying to think of what we would have to fill the hole in the middle of the plate.

“Now of course, it’s really not difficult at all. You just go down the shops and most places will have great veggie options. It was a joint decision and we never looked back. It was a great thing to do, and it turned out we became part of a vegetarian revolution.”

Morgan Neville’s Doc ‘Paul McCartney: Man on the Run’ Teaser Trailer

“I thought – we should start from square one. It’s a puzzle I had to unravel.” Prime Video has revealed the first look teaser trailer for Paul McCartney: Man on the Run, yet another new Beatles documentary – though this isn’t really about them, it’s about what happened after The Beatles. Man on the Run is a film by acclaimed, Oscar-winning doc director Morgan Neville (of 20 Feet from Stardom, Best of Enemies, Keith Richards: Under the Influence, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead). Currently set for release in February 2026, after first premiering at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival this fall. After The Beatles break up (in 1970), Paul McCartney forms new band called Wings with his wife Linda. Archival home footage shows Paul’s life with Linda, who influenced his music, as well as his experiences after The Beatles fame. The doc film follows Wings from formation through 1970s during which Paul wrote hit songs. The description says the film “captures Paul’s transformative post-Beatles era through a uniquely vulnerable lens.” Which sounds like we get to learn about a whole other side of him that we haven’t seen before. Enjoy.

The film takes viewers on an intimate journey through Paul McCartney’s extraordinary life following the breakup of The Beatles and formation of Wings with his wife, Linda. From director Morgan Neville, the doc film chronicles the arc of McCartney’s solo career as he faces down a myriad of challenges while creating new music to define a new decade. Through unprecedented access to previously unseen footage & rare archival materials, the doc captures McCartney’s transformative post-Beatles era through a uniquely vulnerable lens. Paul McCartney: Man on the Run is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Morgan Neville, director of many great doc films Troubadours, 20 Feet from Stardom, Best of Enemies: Buckley vs. Vidal, Keith Richards: Under the Influence, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, Bono & The Edge, and The Saint of Second Chances previously, plus the recent STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces doc. Produced by Chloe Simmons, Meghan Walsh, Scott Rodger, Ben Chappell, Michele Anthony, David Blackman, & Morgan Neville. Amazon will release Neville’s Man on the Run doc streaming on Prime Video starting in February 2026 next year.

Paul McCartney "Got Back" Tour in Las Vegas: Review

Paul McCartney “Got Back” Tour in Las Vegas: Review

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

The past feels very present for Paul McCartney — at least in the way he talked on stage about those he’s lost during the Las Vegas stop on his “Got Back” tour. “Let’s hear it for John,” he said the first time he mentioned the late John Lennon, like Lennon was waiting in the wings, about to come out and duet with him. “Let’s hear it for George” came as he swapped a guitar for the ukulele George Harrison once gave him, which he then used to plink out a stripped-down version of “Something.”

That ukulele performance of “Something” represented one of the few quiet moments of the show, as McCartney’s goal was to keep the crowd on its feet for, as he proclaimed early on, “the biggest party in Vegas.” It perhaps wasn’t quite as raucous as that (perhaps because the crowd demographic leaned heavily towards people who were calling my 40-something ass “young lady”), but McCartney without question delivered a great two-and-a-half-hour hang without a single break in the music.

Get Paul McCartney Tickets Here

The October 4th, 2025 show at Allegiant Stadium blasted open with the nuclear-powered energy of “Help!” — notable given that the “Got Back” tour is the first time McCartney’s performed the song live in 35 years — and it’s hard to imagine a better way to get a crowd on its feat and ready to dance. From there, McCartney promised that the setlist for the evening would include “some old ones, some new ones, and some in between.” That said, his definition of “new” proved a bit loose just a few minutes later, when he launched into “Come On to Me,” released in 2018. “Relatively new,” he said wryly. “It’s new enough.”

However, considering the full scope of the 83-year-old’s career, 2018 is new enough. And lest one forget just how long McCartney’s been rocking, he leaned hard into the early days by going even further back than his time with The Beatles for The Quarrymen’s “In Spite of All the Danger.” Before it began, he took a moment to remember those early days in Liverpool, being a young man with his mates recording their very first song. “They did quite well for themselves,” he said with all the earned smugness in the world.

After “All the Danger” came The Beatles’ first track for EMI (that’s the way McCartney introduced it), “Love Me Do,” which remains the same burst of pop sunshine it’s been since 1962. Otherwise, vibe rather than chronology really drove the song order, with the show hitting its most melancholy moments with an elegant rendition of “Blackbird.” For that track, McCartney rose up on an elevated platform that put the full focus on him and his guitar (the band largely taking a break otherwise). It was one of several subtle choices in the stage design that kept the action dynamic without distracting from the music.

Then, McCartney shifted to “Here Today,” the song he wrote for Lennon after Lennon’s death, musing about how hard it is to say “I love you” to your friends. At which point, acknowledging that “now that we’ve plunged the mood to zero,” he performed the “newest” song of the night, “Now and Then.” He concluded with a note of gratitude: “Thank you, John, for writing that beautiful song.”

After that, though, the vibe shifted as McCartney banged out “Lady Madonna” at a technicolor upright piano, followed by a switch to guitar and the exuberant Wings song “Jet.” Other Wings songs featured during the night included “Let ‘Em In,” “Band on the Run,” and of course “Live and Let Die,” which was accompanied by enough pyro effects to put a WWE main event to shame. The literal fireworks being set off on the stadium stage were so loud, in fact, that McCartney literally crouched down and covered his ears for the final blast.

Following “Live and Let Die,” with the smell of gunpowder still in the air, McCartney launched into “Hey Jude” as the pre-encore closer. One really can’t prepare oneself for the experience of hearing an entire damn stadium sing “na-na-na-na” in unison, led by the man who gave us that gift of a song.

McCartney kept engaged with the audience throughout, with the occasional pause to check in with the crowd: At one point, he took a beat to read out some of the signs being held up, people cheering for someone attending their 122nd show. To the person whose sign asked him to autograph “my butt,” he quite fairly said, “No… that’s pushing it.” And he shared a smile of delight with the fan whose sign said I Was at Shea Stadium. His cheery reply: “So was I!”

The backing band knew the assignment and played with world-class skill without drawing focus: Guitarist Brian Ray had some quality solos, and you could tell that drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. was having a fantastic time, a huge grin on his face as he used his drumstick to conduct the audience sing-along on “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five.”

They helped ensure that there was a real sense of play throughout the night, such as the way McCartney ended “Let Me Roll It” with an impromptu cover of “Foxy Lady,” a tribute to “the late, great Jimi Hendrix,” who McCartney recalled seeing perform live in London very early in his career, in a small club. There were only a few people at that early Hendrix show, McCartney said, but a few nights later, when Hendrix played again, word had spread and the place was packed. As for McCartney himself, it’s a bit sad to note that his vocal abilities have not aged as well as one might have hoped. Yet that becomes a secondary concern after watching him bring the enthusiasm of a 20-year-old country star to a twangy rendition of “I’ve Just Seen a Face.”

McCartney kicked off the encore with “I’ve Got a Feeling,” which he performed as a duet using the recently remastered footage of Lennon from Peter Jackson’s Get Back. “I like that song,” he said simply when it was over, “because I get to sing with John again.”

Lennon and Harrison may be gone. But perhaps the reason McCartney speaks about them like they’re still here is simple: For him they’re still alive, through the music they once made together. The music that will outlive us all.

Stella McCartney Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear Collection

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

I was just thinking about how good so many of Stella McCartney’s guests looked in their Stella McCartney, which you can’t say of every brand’s front row, when one of them, Helen Mirren—Helen Mirren! I was beside myself, fanboying like crazy—got up dressed in her Stella suit, and black square-toed Stella pumps, a microphone in her hand, and began to speak. “Here come old flat-top, he come groovin’ up slowly, he got ju-ju eyeball, he one holy roller…” Mirren intoned. Oh hang on, I know this. It’s…. “He say, ‘I know you, you know me, one thing I can tell you is you got to be free….’” No, really, I do. It’s… it’s…. “Come together, right now, over me.” Well, duh, of course: It’s “Come Together” by The Beatles.

A look at the always informative The Stella Times, the newspaper McCartney distributes at every show, told us that come together is, yes, a double entendre—this is Stella McCartney, people, and as a Brit, I am here for her Brit humor. Yet more importantly for McCartney, the idea of come together is a statement about the uniting of people, and of us with the natural world, and from there, into McCartney’s own world, of fashion, and how its oppositions—masculine/feminine, structure/softness, rebellion and romance—can, and need to, co-exist.

McCartney’s collection played to all of this: The now McCartney-classic snappy wide shouldered suiting, some of it scissored away at the sides of the jackets, loosening up even more her roomy silhouette; the peplum shirts over wiiiiiide utility pants; softly Grès-like draped evening dresses dramatically contrasted with sculpted bodices; and, more of her brilliant (in both senses of the word) biodegradable sequins splashed over a jacket atop slouched up denims, or embellishing the front of cotton drill pants worn with a supersized tee.

Elsewhere, perusing McCartney’s paper also gave some background on two of the strongest elements of the collection: the jeans and the feathers. For the former, she used denim, woven with PURETECH, which, the notes said, “literally cleans the air we breathe.” It’s a material which could have uses, and implications, beyond fashion—though for now, its use in the standout jeans, one pair in striations of different blues, another with a curving back panel which looked like a denim jacket had been knotted at the waist, was very satisfying. As for the feathers, well, they weren’t. They were Fevvers, a plant based feather alternative, and lovely they looked, too, on Alex Consani, who fluttered down the runway to close the show in a strapless column dress in purple eco-plumage.

Of course, division is all we seem to live, breathe and experience these days, a gloomy, despondency-inducing state of affairs, and yes, you can say what good does raising this at a fashion do. But I for one am glad McCartney did; a rare acknowledgement that things are really quite desperate and dreadful, but speaking about it doesn’t detract from also celebrating creativity, and reminding us of some much needed joy and lightness. Quite the opposite. Come together, indeed.

Paul McCartney Performs “Help!” For the First Time in 35 Years: Watch

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Sir Paul McCartney officially kicked off his first North American tour in three years with a pair of shows in California over the last few days. His Friday night gig at the Santa Barbra Bowl served as a warm-up of sorts, as he played an abbreviated setlist to a relatively intimate crowd. The tour — featuring its full 35-song setlist — continued on Monday night at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. At both shows, McCartney kicked off the night by performing “Help!” — marking the first time he has played The Beatles song live in 35 years. He also appeared to play the song using the Höfner bass he was recently reunited with after 50 years.

Because McCartney’s Santa Barbara Bowl concert enforced a no-phone policy, the first live footage of “Help!” comes instead from his Acrisure Arena show. Watch the fan-shot video below, along with more highlights from the night and the full setlist.

Paul McCartney Launches North American Tour with First Performance of “Help!” in 35 Years

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Paul McCartney is officially back.

The Beatles legend kicked off his 2025 North American tour as the latest leg of his “Get Back” run on Friday Night night (Sept. 26th) at the relatively intimate Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. The 4,562-capacity venue was sold out and a phone-free event. It served as the launch of his first US tour since 2022.

From the opening of the show, McCartney thrilled the audience with a mix of iconic hits, including “Help!” which marked its first performance since 1990. He proceeded to perform classics like “Got to Get You Into My Life” and “Let Me Roll It,” showcasing his deep catalog of Beatles, Wings, and solo work. His rendition of “Getting Better” was followed by the soulful “Let ‘Em In,” while the tender “My Valentine” provided a softer moment in the set. The Wings anthem “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five” had the crowd singing along before McCartney brought out The Beatles’ infectious “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and the timeless “Love Me Do.”

A nod to his quieter, more reflective side came with the haunting “Blackbird,” followed by the moving “Now and Then.” McCartney made sure to keep the Beatles spirit alive with fan favorites like “Lady Madonna,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” and the crowd-pleasing “Get Back.” The evening reached a peak with the soaring “Let It Be,” the explosive “Live and Let Die, and finally, “Hey Jude.”

Paul McCartney Plays ‘Help!’ in Full for First Time Since 1965

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Macca did perform 50 seconds of “Help!” in a medley of John Lennon songs on the final leg of his 1990 tour, but he hasn’t done the full song since the Beatles played Cardiff, Wales, in 1965

Paul McCartney launched his 2025 North American tour Friday night with a last-minute warmup gig at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. He kicked off the night by playing the Beatles classic “Help!” in its entirety for the first time since 1965.

The Santa Barbara Bowl seats a mere 4,562 people, meaning it’s roughly a quarter the size of the arenas he’s hitting on the rest of the tour. The show was announced just two weeks ago, it sold out within minutes, and fans had to secure their phones in Yondr pouches for the night. That’s why footage of “Help!” from the show has yet to emerge online. An enterprising fan did capture 30 seconds of “Help!” from soundcheck that provides at least a rough idea of what it sounded like.

McCartney last performed just a section of “Help!” on the final leg of his 1989/90 Flowers in the Dirt tour when he did a medley of John Lennon songs that also features snippets of “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Give Peace a Chance.” The “Help!” segment lasted less than a minute. He last played “Help!” in full on December 12, 1965, when the Beatles played the Capitol Theater in Cardiff, Wales.

The revival of “Help!” is noteworthy since McCartney usually avoids Beatles songs written largely by John Lennon. “When ‘Help!’ came out in ’65, I was actually crying out for help,” Lennon told Playboy in 1980. “Most people think it’s just a fast rock ‘n roll song. I didn’t realize it at the time; I just wrote the song because I was commissioned to write it for the movie [Help!]. But later, I knew I really was crying out for help. It was my fat Elvis period … I was fat and depressed and I was crying out for help.”

Trending Stories

There weren’t any other big surprises in McCartney’s set at the Santa Barbara Bowl. It focused largely on Beatles classics like “Getting Better,” “Lady Madonna,” “Hey Jude,” and “Helter Skelter,” Wings hits like “Jet,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Let Me Roll It,” and solo tunes like “My Valentine,” “Coming Up,” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five.” He also played the “new” Beatles song “Now and Then,” and played a virtual duet with John Lennon on “I’ve Got a Feeling” using footage from the 1969 Beatles Apple Records rooftop performance.

McCartney’s tour continues Monday night at the Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. In the strong likelihood that “Help!” remains in the set, footage should emerge online pretty soon after it wraps.

Spinal Tap’s “Cups and Cakes” with Paul McCartney Is Our Song of the Week

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, our Songs of the Week column highlights the best new tracks from the last seven days. This week, we’re celebrating the newly-released Spinal Tap II and its Paul McCartney-featuring rework of “Cups and Cakes.”

Much like their new movie Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the new album from the greatest fictional rock band of all time draws a lot on the past as well as the future. There are multiple original tracks on The End Continues, but also featured are a few covers of Spinal Tap classics, including Elton John on “(Listen to the) Flower People” and the previously released “Stonehenge,” as well as Paul McCartney leading a new version of “Cups and Cakes” that brings with it a delightful meta element.

“Cups and Cakes” was originally released on the 1984 mockumentary’s soundtrack (though never heard in the film), and in a 2009 interview with The AV Club, Spinal Tap star Michael McKean admitted to being “a little sentimental” about it, referring to the song as “kind of like their string-laden ‘Eleanor Rigby’ sound.” So what could be better than having a gosh-darn Beatle guest on it?

The album version is, naturally, much more produced than the rendition heard in the movie, which features McCartney sitting in on a jam session with the band as they squabble over chords. In both cases, though, it’s genuinely delightful to witness one of rock’s great legends engaging with Spinal Tap as if they are the rock legends that… Well, maybe technically, they are. They did just release a new album, after all, their fourth studio album to date, and are still playing together after literal decades. Not so many bands can say the same.

Perhaps part of that longevity is thanks to the band not being too precious about sticking to any specific genre or format: In that AV Club interview, McKean did note that “Cups and Cakes” is “certainly not textbook Spinal Tap,” but it does represent the lads playing around while maybe lightly parodying The Kinks, with all the goofy instrumental flourishes you could ever ask for. It speaks to a massive part of the sequel film’s charm — the way it showcases how McKean, Harry Shearer, and Christopher Guest are still finding the joy in making music together, after these years. (Also, after listening to it more than a few times… I’m now craving a traditional British teatime.)

dust — “Alastair”

Australian rock quintet dust have a gem with “Alastair,” their new song and the latest from their upcoming debut album Sky Is Falling (out 10/10). It starts off in dreamland with crystalline guitars, a winding bass line, and a beach pop feel. They reach their stride in the chorus, oscillating between a more driven approach and a resigned haze. Then, the band collapses into a fraught, fuzzy groove for the outro, the drums escalating in energy while co-vocalist Justin Teale squeezes in one last verse. Even in their sweetest modes, dust have no problem complicating their sound to keep us on our toes. Looking for another great rock band with a saxophonist? They’re right here. — Paolo Ragusa

Rachel Bobbitt — “Hush”

Rachel Bobbitt has shared “Hush,” the latest offering from her upcoming debut album Swimming Towards the Sand (out 10/17). Keeping with the album’s oceanic theme, “Hush” is a buoyant, tender dream pop cut, the wading of waters symbolized by the ebb and flow of Bobbitt’s melodies. Most stark is the chorus, where Bobbitt is surrounded by thick harmonies, too sour for serenity but full enough to elicit powerful emotions. When she enters a full-voiced belt, like when she sings “Eye to eye,” she sounds like no one else. — P. Ragusa

Rapsody, Madlib — “Avon Thru the Wire”

Rapsody has always been in a league of her own. On “Avon Thru the Wire,” a textured, soulful track of pensiveness inspired by the character Avon Barksdale from the revered HBO series The Wire, Rapsody manipulates her voice to tell an evocative story of multiple characters. Opening with a pitched-down vocal, Rapsody takes on the role of a hustler contemplating the consequences of getting caught up in the street life, and expressing appreciation for a longtime friend who reserved judgment. The North Carolina rapper blends the deepened voice with her own natural tone, weaving a narrative of personal reflection and emphasizing the importance of support among people of different trajectories. “It’s for you to believe, it’s for you to achieve/ It’s still time for you/ For your life, I never grieved,” Rapsody spits near the end. Not unlike The Wire itself, Rapsody uses this song to stress the importance of seeing flawed individuals as humans in need of compassion and grace. — Kiana Fitzgerald

Ragana, Drowse — “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3”

Labelmates and fellow gloomy music makers Ragana and Drowse have officially joined forces for a full-length project. Their collaborative album, Ash Souvenir, drops November 14th on The Flenser, and judging by the lead single, avant-metal heads are in for a treat. Enticingly titled “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3,” the track is crushing, heavy, and incredibly emotive. There are hints of black metal in the tremolo guitars and the guttural screams of the lead vocals, while the back half offers brief glimpses of Drowse’s more atmospheric, slow-core tendencies. All the while, lyrics dealing with loss, love, and sacred places match the instrumental’s epic scope. — Jonah Krueger

Rochelle Jordan — “Sweet Sensation”

Rochelle Jordan is mounting her comeback. The British-Canadian singer-songwriter has been teasing her upcoming album, Through the Wall, since this spring. Her latest offering, “Sweet Sensation,” is yet another instance of Jordan firing a flare gun into the night sky, signaling her highly anticipated return. She hasn’t released an original album since 2021’s Play With the Changes, and prior to that, her breakthrough album 1021 was released in 2014.

Jordan may be sparing in her musical output, but every time she chooses to let us into her creative world, we learn more about what drives her. “Sweet Sensation” feels like an homage to Evelyn “Champagne” King, Cherrelle, and other R&B divas of the ’80s. With West Coast legend DāM-FunK and Jordan’s longtime creative director and executive producer KLSH behind the boards, the song is carried by a rugged bass line, twinkling production, and Jordan’s airy, sensual vocals. Settling squarely in the space of disco-inflected pop&B, “Sweet Sensation” sounds like a summer vibe, despite its near-fall release date. Not to worry: Just play this on repeat for the next 9 months. — K. Fitzgerald

TiaCorine — “Backyard” featuring JID

When TiaCorine released her viral single “FreakyT” in 2022, she put us all on alert and let us know what to expect. On that song, we learned the North Carolina rapper is a grown-ass woman who’s not afraid to talk about her wants and desires. TiaCorine keeps that exact same energy on the JID-assisted “Backyard,” the latest single dropped ahead of her forthcoming album CORINIAN. Over propulsive production that features thrumming bass and a looped soulful interjection, TiaCorine pops her shit about her preferences and capabilities in the bedroom. JID understands the assignment, contributing lyrics like “I stand up in this bih, I’m like the governor in Atlanta/ Put a planet on my wrist, she made a puddle in the passenger.” While the song largely caters to carnal impulses, both artists still find the time to establish themselves as sought-after MCs who can spit amongst the best in their field.  — K. Paul McCartney and Billie Eilish were among those attending the Oasis reunion tour stop in Los Angeles this weekend.

The North American leg of the Oasis Live ‘25 tour rolled into the Rose Bowl Stadium for the first of two sold-out shows last night (September 6), with a host of famous faces, including Vince Vaughn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, Kristen Stewart, Metallica‘s James Hetfield, Finneas, Eilish and McCartney in attendance.

The latter can be seen in clips on social media filming while Noel Gallagher sang ‘Little By Little’, with many noting he was the only one in his section who stood up throughout. In a separate clip, fans approached him as he left the venue and asked what he thought of the show, to which he replied: “Fabulous”.

As far back as 2015, Noel had joked that if McCartney wrote their comeback single, he’d be willing to discuss a reunion. The same year, he walked back comments he made to MTV, where he said Oasis were bigger than The Beatles, which McCartney said was the biggest mistake of their career.

“I thought, ‘So many people have said that, and it’s the kiss of death,‘” he said at the time. “Be bigger than The Beatles, but don’t say it. The minute you say it, everything you do from then on is going to be looked at in the light of that statement.”

Both brothers revere McCartney, with Liam fondly recalling a now infamous interaction they’d had while speaking to NME in 2017.

“I’ve met him a few times he’s been absolutely a dream,” he said. “The last time was at the Royal Albert Hall. He goes, ‘Why are you always in a rush? Sit down, sit down’. I sit down and he goes, ‘Do you like margaritas?’ I said, ‘Yeah, but I had something before I come out, I don’t eat at this time of night’.

“He said, ‘They’re fuckin’ drinks, you stupid prick’. I thought he was offering me a pizza.”

A previous stop on the North American leg took them to New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where they dedicated ‘Live Forever’ to the victims of the Minneapolis church shooting on the first night earlier this week.

Last Wednesday (August 27), a shooter targeted a group of people outside the Church of the Annunciation in Minneapolis before morning mass, killing two children and injuring eighteen others. The perpetrator then killed himself.

Oasis will next play dates in Pasadena and Mexico City before heading back for two extra shows at Wembley Stadium at the end of the month. They go on to play South Korea, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Brazil before the end of the year.

NME gave Oasis’ historic first comeback concert at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium a glowing five-star review, writing: “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century.”

“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”

Noel also spoke recently about the “great” experience of being back on tour with his brother Liam, saying he had forgotten “how funny” he is, adding that he is “smashing it” and he is “proud of him”.
