Miss Universe 2025 Controversy: Thai Director Issues Apology For Calling Miss Mexico ‘Dumb’ Resulting In Mass Walkout

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Tensions flared at Miss Universe Thailand 2025 when Thai director and Miss Grand International (MGI) president Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly clashed with Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, during a livestreamed sashing ceremony, sparking global controversy and contestant walkouts. What was meant to be a glamorous celebration of beauty and diplomacy turned chaotic on November 4 in Bangkok.

Nawat Itsaragrisil Called Fatima Bosch Dumb

According to reports, Nawat reprimanded Bosch for skipping a sponsorship shoot to attend a Telemundo filming session. As seen in the viral livestream, he was heard saying, “Stop! Sit down. If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” after which Bosch exited the venue—followed by several contestants standing in solidarity. Later, Nawat appeared to escalate matters, saying, “Everyone can come back except Mexico. She’s talking too much.”

Fátima Bosch later took to TikTok, condemning Nawat’s remarks. “What your director did is not respectful. He called me dumb because of his issues with the organisation. I’ve done nothing wrong. We are empowered women, and no one can silence our voice,” she said. Her poised yet firm statement went viral, earning massive praise from fans and fellow contestants.

Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark also supported Bosch, writing, “Standing up for yourself is not always easy, but it’s one of the most important acts of self-respect.” Meanwhile, Miss Universe Bonaire 2025, Nicole Peiliker-Visser, urged reconciliation, saying, “We can fix this. We’re having such a great time in Thailand.”

In response, the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) launched an investigation and dispatched a high-level delegation led by CEO Mario Búcaro to Thailand to ensure a professional environment and uphold the organisation’s values of transparency and unity. While the pageant schedule remains intact, MUO imposed restrictions on Nawat, with pageant president Raúl Rocha confirming the move in a social media statement reinforcing MUO’s stance on respect and professionalism.

Nawat Issues An Apology

Days later, a remorseful Nawat publicly apologised. During a welcome ceremony, he grew emotional, saying, “I want to apologise to everyone. I didn’t realise how big this issue would become.” In a livestreamed statement, he added in Thai, “If anyone feels bad or affected, I sincerely apologise—especially to the 75 contestants who were present.”

He also clarified that MUO’s CEO, Mario Búcaro, would soon arrive in Thailand to assist in resolving the situation, stating, “He is very kind and will fly in tomorrow so we can work together in alignment.”

The dramatic episode has since ignited widespread discussion about respect, professionalism, and women’s empowerment within global pageants—reminding the world that beauty competitions are not just about crowns, but also about courage, dignity, and voice.

Mass MoCA Releases Malawian Roots Album to Launch Its New Label: Listen

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

A new album of Malawian roots music is the inaugural release of a new record label from the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA). A collaboration with California label Hen House Studios, Mass MoCA Records released the Kasambwe Brothers’ self-titled album today, and you can hear it below.

The Kasambwe Brothers are a band of four decades, based in the Ndirande township near Malawian capital Blantyre. They found their way to a Mass MoCA residency with help from Hen House and Luc Deschamps, the director of the Jacaranda Foundation and France’s honorary consul to Malawi. Watch a documentary on the making of the album, which involves collaborators from the Massachusetts music scene, below. Clement Kammwamba is the artist behind the cover painting.

Mass MoCA Records will operate in tandem with the museum’s curatorial ethos, a press release notes, and is running as a three-year pilot. Museum director Kristy Edmunds said, “By joining forces with Hen House Studios and being able to tap into the remarkable number of music studios and intimate venues in the local area—the ingredients for a hand-made record label were all around us. I see this label as an extension of how we innovate to support the mobility of artists’ ideas and connect audiences the world over.”

Harlan Steinberger, the producer and engineer behind Hen House, added, “Though technology today can work wonders, the digital world has de-humanized us. I believe in an older-world method that emphasizes the magic of a band making music together in one room, playing off the creativity of the moment. The humanistic approach creates a deeper emotional listener experience that can not only be heard, but also felt.”

An album from Compton jazz artists Black Nile will follow in 2026, the press release notes.

Kantara Chapter 1 review: Folk goes mass as Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth excel in uneven but visually splendid prequel

Kantara Chapter 1 review

Cast: Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah

Director: Rishab Shetty

Rating: ★★★

Halfway into Kantara: Chapter 1, I could not help but feel that the film, like the original Kantara, was an elaborate setup for a visually splendid payoff. The film tests your patience, exhausts you, and frustrates you before eventually rewarding you with what is one of the most visually stunning climaxes in recent times. Yet, while the original Kantara held it all together, Chapter 1 seems to be nudging the viewer to just wait for that payoff and ignore the bumpy ride along the way. Does it take the sheen away a bit? Certainly. Is Kantara Chapter 1 still a watchable film? Immensely so! Despite the unevenness and drab moments, Rishab Shetty yet again scripts a theatrical spectacle that can only be experienced, not explained.

Kantara Chapter 1 review: Rishab Shetty takes on the daunting task of following up to Kantara.

What is it about

Kantara: Chapter 1 is an origin story that explains the backstory of the daivas and the guliga we saw in Kantara. Rishab plays Berme, a warrior from Kantara, a hamlet that is at odds with the neighbouring Kadamba kingdom. The ruler Vijayendra (Jayaram) has enforced an uneasy truce with Kantara, but his ambitious and wayward son, Kulasekhara (Gulshan Devaiah), wants to annex Kantara and capture the resources in the forest. Even as the princess Kanakvathi (Rukmini Vasanth) tries to find a middle ground, blood spills, and Kulasekhara and Berme come face to face.

What works and what doesn’t

While the 2022 film Kantara was a rooted film about traditions and folk tales of coastal Karnataka, Kantara: Chapter 1 is an ambitious, large-scale story of greed, war, and destiny. It is magnified several-fold as compared to the first part. The prequel is more mass than folk, giving both the heroes and the villains enough time to saunter on the screen and indulge in some elevation. If Kantara had some nuance, Chapter 1 has the subtlety of a sledgehammer. It is loud, bold, and in-your-face, perhaps a little too much at times.

What makes Kantara Chapter 1 a little intolerable at times is how uneven and scattered the narrative gets, particularly in the first half. It moves at a leisurely pace, flitting between the two settings and often indulging a bit too much in the characters’ frivolities. The humour seems forced, and the romance a little rushed. Yet, the moment the action kicks in, the film gets back on track.

Movie Review

Kantara: Chapter 1

Kantara: Chapter 1

Rating Star 3/5

Tracing the origins of the daivas and guliga in Kantara, the Rishab Shetty film focusses on the standoff between the village and a neighbouring kingdom centuries ago.

Cast

Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah

Verdict

Kantara Chapter 1 relies upon its visuals, cinematography, and splendid scale to patch over the roughness in the narrative. Rishab Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth’s performances help too.

Rishab Shetty balances the folk traditions that have inspired the film with modern sensibilities better this time around. Chapter 1 gives its women more agency than the first film ever did. But even this one can’t resist the knight-in-shining-armour trope. However strong the woman is, a man must rescue her in the end. Rishab Shetty’s writing seems to allow women to have power and independence only when they rebel or antagonise. Otherwise, it is reduced to tokenism. However, still props to the writer-director for giving a female character more prominence this time around, and even giving her some of the most powerful moments in the film.

But the real clincher for the film is the visuals. The VFX work is quite splendid for a film of this budget. The CGI tiger and monkeys, in particular, have been rendered beautifully. But it’s the film’s play with fire and the depiction of the guliga and daivas that steal the show. The powerful climax is elevated by Rishab Shetty’s performance, but the VFX plays an important role there. What is also noteworthy is the cinematography. Much of the film is shot at night, but Kantara: Chapter 1 thankfully discards the newfound penchant for too much darkness on screen.

The performances

I expected Rishab to shine again on screen, and he does. In scenes where he transforms into the guliga, he is a man possessed and delivers a breathtaking, captivating performance yet again. But for me, the other star was Rukmini Vasanth. The second half of the film allows her to take on a central role in the narrative, showing shades that films in this genre seldom allow female stars to. And the actor excels. Gulshan Devaiah has been wasted in the first half, but he briefly gets to show his true mettle after the interval.

Rukmini Vasanth in a still from Kantara: Chapter 1.
Rukmini Vasanth in a still from Kantara: Chapter 1.

Chapter 1 a critique of consumerism as it is a commentary on greed and maintaining the ecological balance, all themes that were present in the first Kantara too. Here, they have been presented with a medieval lens, though. And Rishab Shetty does well as these are the only moments in the film that have some nuance and subtlety. But the visuals and performances, coupled with the splendid presentation of folkore, is enough to patch the holes left by the roughness in the narrative. This makes Kantara: Chapter 1 one of the most visually stunning and watchable Indian films in recent times.

The Mass Participation Pulse, the UK’s most comprehensive annual survey examining the mass participation events landscape, opens for responses

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Events agency Massive, in partnership with the Running Industry Alliance and leading event organisers, brands, charities, and entry platforms, today announces the launch of the Mass Participation Pulse 2025.

Now in its fourth year, the Mass Participation Pulse is a research tool for understanding current and potential audiences across running, walking, cycling, swimming, and triathlon events. The 2025 survey builds on previous success, having captured insights from over 11,000 participants in 2024 and nearly 20,000 respondents since its inception in 2022.

Industry Collaboration Drives Comprehensive Insights

The Mass Participation Pulse represents a unique collaboration across the mass participation sector, bringing together stakeholders and ensuring the research captures perspectives from across the entire events market – from grassroots community events to major national events.

“By working together with partners across the sector, we’re creating one of the most comprehensive pictures of participant behaviour, preferences, and future intentions available anywhere in the UK mass participation events market, “said John Tasker, partner at Massive.

2024 Findings Reveal Market Recovery and Growth

The 2024 report painted an encouraging picture of the mass participation events sector, with several key trends emerging:

  • Consumer confidence strengthened significantly, with participants spending more on events and related apparel, travelling greater distances to participate, and booking their places earlier than at any point since the pandemic
  • Event satisfaction improved dramatically, with twice as many participants reporting good value for money compared to previous years
  • Basic amenities remained crucial to participant satisfaction, with toilet facilities, clear signage, and accessibility ranking as top priorities for event- goers
  • Social media and word-of-mouth emerged as primary channels for event discovery, highlighting the critical importance of community engagement in event promotion

Optimistic Outlook Drives 2025 Research Focus

Last year’s survey revealed that many participants indicated plans to increase their event involvement, creating high expectations for continued market growth.

“The intention to do more events last year has happened so it will be interesting to see in this year’s research whether the growth in the sector can continue”, said Tasker.

How to Participate

The Mass Participation Pulse 2025 survey is free to participate in and open to anyone who takes part in or has an interest in mass participation events.

The survey will run throughout October and participants will be entered into a draw to win either the 1st prize of £250 of vouchers to spend at the online sports retailer Decathlon or 2 x runners up prizes of £50 to spend at Sports Shoes.

bitchy | Prince William & Kate attended the requiem mass for the Duchess of Kent

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The Duchess of Kent’s funeral is happening today. First, the Requiem Mass at Westminster Cathedral, then a private funeral in Windsor. King Charles was one of the first to arrive at the mass today, and his wife pulled out at the last minute because of illness. The Prince and Princess of Wales are in attendance at the mass – they confirmed their attendance earlier today, about an hour before Camilla pulled out. Kate wore the same pearl-and-diamond choker which she wore to QEII’s funeral. It’s her funeral bling, I guess, or they just give her that necklace for funerals, since Camilla controls the Royal Collection jewels now. I also think Kate is wearing the same black coatdress she wore to Prince Philip’s funeral?

I’m also including some photos of the other requiem mass attendees, including: Frederick Windsor and his wife Sophie Winkleman; the Earl of Snowden; and interestingly enough, Penelope Knatchbull, Countess Mountbatten of Burma. I wonder why Penny is there? Was she particularly close to the Kents?

The release of director Bhanu Bogavarapu’s much-awaited mass entertainer Mass Jathara, starring Ravi Teja in the lead, has been postponed. The film, which was originally scheduled to hit theatres on August 27, will now arrive at a later date.

Confirming the news on Tuesday, production house Sithara Entertainments issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter):
“Due to recent industry-wide strikes and unforeseen delays in wrapping up crucial content, #MassJathara will not be arriving on its planned date of Aug 27th. But the team is working relentlessly to bring you the BIGGEST MASS FEAST in theatres soon! New release date will be announced shortly.”

Fans Left Disappointed

The announcement has left Ravi Teja’s fans disheartened, as the film was highly anticipated for a Ganesh Chaturthi release. Expectations are sky-high, given the actor’s strong mass appeal and the promise of a full-on commercial entertainer. Actor Naveen Chandra, who plays a key role, recently revealed that dubbing for the project had begun. Describing the film, he said, “This one’s going to be loud, raw, and rooted,” while also expressing his excitement about teaming up with Ravi Teja and Sreeleela.

Cast and Crew Details

Mass Jathara pairs Ravi Teja with actress Sreeleela, adding to the buzz around the film. The project features cinematography by Vidhu Ayyanna and editing by National Award-winner Navin Nooli. Music is composed by Bheems Ceciroleo, while the lyrics are penned by Bhaskarabhatla.

Production and Presentation

The film is produced by Naga Vamsi S. and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, with presentation by Srikara Studios. Though delayed, the makers have assured fans that the film will be worth the wait, promising an action-packed theatrical experience.
