Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez Killed At Wrong Address

by jummy84 November 8, 2025

A routine cleaning job in Whitestown, Indiana, turned into a nightmare Wednesday morning. 32-year-old Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez was fatally shot after her team reportedly went to the wrong address. And, what should have been just another workday for the Indianapolis mom ended in tragedy. Now, her husband and four children are left devastated, while the community lives in shock.

Maria’s Husband Recalls Horror Of Fatal Shooting

According to reports, police responded to a 911 call just before 7 a.m. and found Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez dead. She was reportedly on the “front porch of the residence” with a gunshot wound to the head. Maria was immediately pronounced dead, leaving her husband Mauricio Velasquez and their four children, including an 11-month-old, reeling in shock. Mauricio told WRTV he was with his wife when the shooting happened and described the horrifying scene.

“I never thought it was a shot, but I realized when my wife took two steps back, she looked like she’d been hit in the head,” he said through tears. “She fell into my arms, and I saw the blood. It went everywhere.”

The family had been just been cleaning homes together for seven months. And now, they are left grappling with a tragic loss that feels unimaginable.

Shooter Inside Home, Investigation Ongoing

Police confirmed the shot was fired from inside the house by one of the residents, though they have not released the shooter’s identity, citing the “complex, delicate, and evolving” nature of the case. Detectives continue to investigate, trying to determine exactly what happened and what charges may apply. The department has also publicly denied false social media rumors that a police officer lived at the home, calling the misinformation “false and misleading.”

Prosecutors Review Case As Maria’s Family Seeks Justice

The case has been formally submitted to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office. Kent Eastwood, the prosecutor, tells ABC News that his office hopes to make a charging decision within the next couple of weeks. Mauricio, still grieving, pleaded for justice: “What I need now is for there to be justice, because he took her life, in that sense. I don’t believe that’s human.” Meanwhile, the community is left shaken by a fatal mix-up that turned a simple morning job into a devastating tragedy.

María Zardoya’s New Solo Project Is Lush, Moody, a Little Dark—and Utterly Her Own

In February, Zardoya, Evian, and Buccellati headed to upstate New York for three weeks of writing and recording—an unlikely setting for the San Juan-born artist. “I wanted to record somewhere totally out of my comfort zone, and outside of LA,” she explains. “I’m Puerto Rican and an island girly, so the polar opposite was going to upstate New York in the dead of winter.” Between sessions, they took long walks through the woods and ate farm-fresh duck eggs.

Melt’s softly gothic sound may feel familiar to fans of the Marías, whose production leaned toward the lush, layered, and hypnotic, but it’s slower, moodier. “The Marías are very much a band, but from day one, Josh and I have written all of the music. So what you get is 50-50 Josh’s musical DNA and mine,” Zardoya says. “Whereas with my solo project, I wanted this to feel like music you’d listen to in nature while sitting under a tree, or on the train looking out a window.” (If ever a song began to stray from the sensibility she was after, Zardoya recalls, she’d describe it as “not vampire enough!”)

Its tone draws as much from the wintry stillness of those New York woods as from Evian and Buccellati’s love of The Lord of the Rings (which, yes, they got Zardoya into, too). “Sam, Luca, and I worked so seamlessly because we have such similar musical DNA. We’re inspired by the same things,” Zardoya says. “A song called ‘Back to You’ felt like the stars were aligning—the melody came out of nowhere. We were all just in our little stations, creating, and then before we knew it, we had a whole song.” The trio were delighted to discover, after the song was finished, that the planets had quite literally been aligned that night.

The Venice Film Festival spotlighted women in cinema with Reel Women, a late-night celebration hosted by filmmaker, actress, and producer Maria Soccor at the Campari Lounge. Beginning at 10 p.m., the private event drew a mix of filmmakers, producers, actors, and industry executives in support of female-driven storytelling during one of the year’s most influential gatherings.

Soccor, known for her award-winning films and advocacy for underrepresented voices, has built her reputation as a festival presence, often moderating panels and mentoring emerging talent. With Reel Women, she expanded her mission in Venice, fostering dialogue and recognition for women shaping the film landscape.

The guest list reflected the festival’s global reach. Jared Harris attended with his wife Allegra as his new film House of Dynamite premiered at Venice to early acclaim. Other notable attendees included producer Debra Gainor of Producers Without Borders, actress Agathe Levi, producer Vicktoria Silmara Turmina of Mindgate Motion Pictures, Jojo Dye of The Members Club and Producers Without Borders, publicist Jane Owen of Jane Owen Public Relations, Ann Hafström of the Creative Lifestyle Agency, actress Tora Kim, and models Gillian Nation and Tia Goossen.

As the oldest international film festival, founded in 1932, Venice has remained a launchpad for cinema’s most significant works, ranking alongside Cannes and Berlin as one of Europe’s premier showcases. This year’s addition of Reel Women emphasized the importance of elevating female creators both in front of and behind the camera.

The evening was presented by Campari in partnership with Maria Soccor Productions Inc. and Jane Owen Public Relations. Guests enjoyed signature Campari cocktails, appetizers, and refreshments throughout the night. “Venice has long been a platform for extraordinary storytelling, and REEL WOMEN was a chance to gather in recognition of the incredible female talent shaping the industry today,” said Soccor.

By invitation only, the gathering underscored Campari and its partners’ commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and future voices in film. The Campari Lounge buzzed late into the night with the energy of collaboration and conversation that defines Venice’s most exciting week.

Cara Maria Sorbello Leaves, Jonna Mannion Joins

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for The Challenge Season 41 Episode 5.]

Another GOAT of the show headed home on The Challenge‘s latest episode — though not for the reason you might think.

Wednesday’s (August 27) new episode of Vets and New Threats picked up right where the last one left off, with the remaining competitors dealing with the aftermath of Johnny Bananas‘ elimination. His showmance partner Dee Valladares staged an impromptu memorial on his now-empty bed, fit with an actual banana and a “no feet” sign as a wink to his apparent kink.

Meanwhile, Olivia Kaiser mused that his exit would have the unintended consequence of uniting the rookies against the veterans, and she seemed to be right based on the hush-hush bunkroom gathering Aneesa Ferreira accidentally (or maybe intentionally) crashed.

After that, Cara Maria Sorbello revealed that she needed to leave after receiving bad news about her mother’s health and saved her biggest goodbye for fellow Bostonian Chris “C.T.” Tamburello, who offered to leave right alongside her.

“This is harder than The Challenge itself,” she said of what she faced at home. “This is my escape. This is where I can just go on autopilot and focus on one thing and escape my home reality.” Of her exit, CT said in a confessional, “Cara is like a sister to me… I tell her to keep her head up, and she’s a tough chick, but I’m going to miss her.”

Cara’s exit meant Leo Dionicio had no partner, but instead of forcing him to become the next “hangnail” of the game, host T.J. Lavin announced that an alternate was coming into the game — it was not just any old player, but two-time The Challenge: All Stars winner Jonna Mannion. Game on.

The daily challenge was sponsored by (and themed in accordance with) the upcoming football horror film Him. Called “Dirtballer,” the grueling challenge required the pairs to work together to dig up giant wooden posts, carry them across a 500-meter field, then set them back into the ground to create a goalpost before kicking a field goal on it to win. Winning the challenge were Michaela Bradshaw and Jake Cornish. Coming in dead last were Dee and Derek Chavez.

Michaela, despite giving Olivia a spirited speech about her decision to protect someone who wasn’t being targeted, decided to throw their save to Jake’s pal Leo from potential elimination. Then, the house vote became a tie between Yeremi Hykel (whose partner Ashley Mitchell was loudly concerned about becoming a hangnail) and Ben Davis. T.J. resolved the tie with a coin toss, which sent Ben into the arena.

The elimination challenge was, like the daily, Him-coded as “Him Collide,” a variation of the classic Hall Brawl featuring a football. Without much resistance, Derek ran all over Ben and easily won, leaving his partner Olivia as the next hangnail.

Then came the selection, wherein the new partnerships were decided: Michael and Yeremi, Jake and Janna, Adrienne Naylor and Derek, Turabi “Turbo” Çamkıran and Tay Wilcoxson, Aviv Melmed and Cedric Hodges, Will Gagnon and Ashley, Ayoleka “Leka” Sodade and CT, Gabe Wai and Aneesa, America Chavez and Derrick Kosinski, Leroy Garrett and Izzy Fairthorne, Sydney Segal and Leo, Nany Gonzales and Theo Campbell, and Justin Hinsley and Dee.

All in all, there wasn’t too much drama in this particular episode, but the look-ahead tells us that things are about to sour up between CT and Turbo — meaning, the fear that vet-on-vet crimes would begin in the wake of Bananas’ departure might just come true after all.
