The bright palette and busy design are a total departure from Bieber’s typical nail formula. Bieber usually opts for a subtly seasonal nail look, and instead of intricate nail art, she often wears a solid shade with a chrome, pearlescent, or cat-eye finish. Together, she and Ganzorigt have created mega-viral mani trends, like her glazed-donut nails and lemondrop martini manicure.

This fall has also seen particularly understated nail trends—both celebrity and mainstream. “Nail art in general has taken a more minimalistic stance,” Tom Bachik, the celebrity nail artist behind the toasted manicure trend, told Glamour. “I think maybe with all the craziness happening in the world right now, minimalism in beauty feels like a nice balance.” But with a fresh season of nail art inspiration upon us (and over-the-top holiday aesthetics creeping in), trends might be swinging bolder.

Bieber makes a case for the later approach: It’s getting colder, the sun sets in the afternoon, and our calendars have never been more crammed—so why shouldn’t your nails channel fun and carefree vibes? Better yet, if you actually have an island vacation planned for the winter, let this be your excuse to go all-in with an off-season themed mani.

This fall, it seems like short nails are everywhere—back in the limelight after years of long-nail supremacy. Unless you’re Demi Moore. For Demi Moore, long nails are never over.

While in New York on October 25, Moore stepped out with her signature long nails. However, she skipped over stiletto nails—the prevailing long nail trend—and instead opted for a squoval shape. Her nude mani rounded but with a square tip that is the perfect mix between elegant and daring.

In the season in which short nails coexist with extra-long ones, Moore’s nails are a perfect middle ground in both inches and style. They are long, yes, but they filed with a blunted tip, which is softened by rounding off the corners, creating smooth sides (the term “squoval” is—you guessed it—a portmanteau of “square and ”oval”). Hence, they are an excellent alternative to other lengths as they’re more comfortable and wearable.

Moore’s manicure in particular is unstuffy thanks to her choice of a nude polish. The effect is more refined than any stiletto nail made up in blood red or even French tips.

Demi Moore has been a Hollywood style icon going on 40 years, and and her on-trend squoval manicure proves she’s not giving up the mantle just yet. This nail style will be especially popular as the holidays approach. Hailey Bieber has been standing ten toes—well, nails—down on the glass nail trend, but switched things up for 2025 Academy Museum Gala.

On October 18, the 28-year-old Rhode founder arrived at the Academy Museum Gala—sometimes referred to as the “West Coast Met Gala”—in a look worthy of the event’s nickname. Fresh off Schiaparelli spring-summer couture runway, Bieber’s dress accentuated her figure with a sheer corset with exposed boning and hip padding, giving the slight illusion that the rest of her espresso brown gown were, in fact, a low-rise skirt and strapless bra combo.

But that wasn’t the only trippy detail in the design, which featured a shimmery two-toned fabric that appears to shift as it catches the light, almost like the popular cat-eye nail trend. Of course, that brings us to Hailey Bieber’s manicure. To match her dress and toasty makeup look, Bieber ditched nude nails in favor of a chocolate brown cat-eye effect.

Following the event, celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt revealed exactly how she created Bieber’s nail look, which she describes as the “ultimate fall manicure.” She started with one layer of OPI’s Brown to Earth Gel Polish mixed with the brand’s No-Wipe Top Coat before mixing those polishes with a bit of cat-eye powder for the second coat. Presumably, that’s when she hit the nails with her magnet before adding one more layer of the No-Wipe Top Coat.

Though she did not include a tutorial in her Instagram post, which can be seen here, it seems to mimic the technique she used to achieve Bieber’s “cinnamon girl manicure” back in November 2024. Luckily, she did film that process for Instagram and TikTok.

“An accent nail is the statement piece of a manicure, the one detail that instantly draws the eye,” says Juanita Huber-Millet founder of luxury nail salon Townhouse. “It’s usually when one, or sometimes two, nails are painted in a contrasting shade or elevated with nail art. It creates a chic focal point and is such a stylish way to dip into trends or showcase your personality. Think of it as the jewelry of your manicure, that finishing touch that ties everything together.”

Which finger should be an accent nail?

The most common finger for accent nails is the ring finger. “It naturally catches the eye; if you are wearing a special ring, it acts as the perfect frame,” says Huber-Millet.

However, the beauty of accent nails is the amount of options. Julie K, a celebrity manicurist and KISS Nails ambassador, encourages clients to tailor their choice around their personal style or upcoming events. “It can really be on any finger,” Julie says. “I like to switch it up—one hand will have maybe a ring finger accent, and one hand will have a thumb. That way, if they are shooting content, or they are traveling and want to take a photo of their food or drink, they have one nail with the accent design on it that’s holding the glass.”

Gina Edwards, celebrity manicurist and imPRESS Mani ambassador, also recommends the index finger and pinky finger for accent nails.

Can you wear more than one accent nail?

You can definitely wear more than one accent nail. According to Huber-Millet, it’s a great way switch up the vibe of your mani. “For some, a single accent nail feels chic and understated, while others prefer experimenting with two or more for a bolder effect,” she says. “Accent nails allow you to be playful and creative while still keeping your manicure polished.”

Should an accent nail use light colors or dark colors?

This all depends on the type of look you’re going for. “It can go either way,” says Edwards. “If you have a light colored manicure a dark nail will stand out and it works the same on the reversal. Just be sure to keep the colors cohesive in the same grain as the color palette.”
