Curtain Call For Satish Shah: The Man Who Made Laughter Feel Effortless | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

There are actors who make you laugh, and then there are those whose very presence promises laughter. Satish Shah belonged to the latter. The moment he entered the frame, something inside you smiled. His face carried mischief, warmth, and a kind of unspoken assurance that something funny was about to happen. It didn’t need words — just that twinkle in his eyes and the slight tilt of his head was enough.

Satish Ravilal Shah (25 June 1951 – 25 October 2025) wasn’t simply a comic actor. He was a craftsman who understood that humour is rhythm — a melody that relies on silence as much as on sound. He had a musician’s sense of timing, a painter’s eye for detail, and a philosopher’s empathy for the everyday absurdities of life. In a world that often mistakes noise for comedy, Satish Shah’s humour was soft-spoken, intelligent, and wonderfully human.

For millions of Indians, their first memory of him was in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. Week after week, Satish became someone new — a taxi driver, a boss, a neighbour, a priest. He played them all, and somehow, you never felt he was repeating himself. He had the rare gift of vanishing into character without losing his essence. Families across India sat together on Friday nights not just to watch a sitcom, but to see what new avatar Satish Shah would surprise them with. His versatility was astonishing, his ease deceptive. It all looked effortless — because he made it so.

And then came Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. As the overconfident municipal commissioner D’Mello, Satish turned chaos into art. His performance in that iconic Mahabharat scene remains one of Indian cinema’s greatest comic moments — an orchestra of confusion where every gesture and pause added to the symphony. You could watch that sequence a hundred times and still find something new in his expressions, a fresh nuance in his timing. That was his magic: he didn’t just deliver jokes; he created moments.

Two decades later, Satish Shah found a new home in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. As Indravadan Sarabhai, he became the lovable patriarch with a sarcastic streak and impeccable comic timing. His banter, his mock arrogance, his effortless rapport with every co-actor — all of it created a character that generations still quote today. Even now, social media is filled with Indu’s one-liners, proof that his humour was not only sharp but timeless.

Off-screen, though, Satish was nothing like his flamboyant roles. Those who knew him speak of a quiet man, full of understated wit and kindness. His jokes in real life were never loud or attention-seeking; they were gentle, perfectly timed asides that left people in laughter long after he’d moved on. He was a trained actor from FTII, and he approached comedy with the same rigour others reserved for tragedy. Every pause, every reaction, was measured — not mechanical, but mindful. That’s why his humour felt real. It came from observation, not exaggeration.

He once told a friend about an incident that stayed with him. While his wife was undergoing surgery, a fan approached him in the hospital corridor and asked him to tell a joke. It was a moment that summed up both the beauty and burden of being funny. “People think you live in laughter,” he said quietly, “but sometimes, you only borrow it for them.” There was grace in that — the grace of someone who understood what he gave to the world.

It’s hard to recall Satish Shah in a serious role, and perhaps that was deliberate. He didn’t want to remind audiences of pain; he wanted to give them respite from it. His art was never cynical, never cruel. It was rooted in affection — for people, for their follies, for the small confusions that make us human. He wasn’t laughing at the world; he was laughing with it.

His passing leaves a strange quiet — the kind that follows a perfect punchline. For decades, he made Indian living rooms ring with laughter. He taught us that comedy doesn’t need to shout to be heard. It just needs honesty. And now, as the curtain falls on one of the finest comic actors this country has ever known, there’s no need for grand farewells. Just a smile, maybe a chuckle, and a line he might have said himself, “Arre, drama mat karo yaar… hasso thoda.”

Because even in his final bow, Satish Shah would want the applause to sound like laughter.

Farah teases Jackie about Polio ad

At one point, Farah brought up the iconic polio advertisement that once made Jackie Shroff an internet sensation. The behind-the-scenes video of the ad, which featured Jackie abusing people while urging them to vaccinate their children, became viral years after its release in 89-90. The internet has not yet stopped laughing at Jackie’s unfiltered delivery, turning it into a meme goldmine across social media platforms. What was once a government awareness campaign suddenly turned into a pop-culture moment, celebrated for its mix of humour, lots of curse words and Jackie’s signature swagger.

Farah couldn’t resist teasing him about the advertisement and said, “Gali dene wale man ke saaf hote hai. (People who abuse are pure at heart)” Jackie, quick with his wit, immediately corrected her with a grin: “Aise mat bolo, sab gaali dene lag jaenge aur mujhe bolenge! (Don’t say like that, as everyone would abuse and will blame me)” The lighthearted exchange had everyone on set in splits, including Farah’s cook in splits.

Jackie’s latest work

On the professional front, Jackie Shroff has been keeping busy. He was recently seen in Housefull 5 alongside Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh. He was also seen in Anupam Kher’s directorial Tanvi The Great, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Jackie was also part of the hit Telugu film They Call Hik OG, which starred Pawan Kalyan in the lead. His upcoming films include Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri and Welcome To The Jungle.

About Farah’s cooking vlog

Farah Khan and Dilip’s cooking vlog has become a fan-favourite series for its mix of food, fun, and celebrity candour. Over the months, several stars, including Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Chunky Panday, Sania Mirza, and Karan Johar, have joined Farah in the kitchen to share laughs and interesting recipes.

When Sanjay Dutt Was Cast In & As Khalnayak & Subhash Ghai Revealed Why He Ditched Every Actor For This Villain, “A Man Who’s Full Of…”

When Sanjay Dutt Was Cast In & As Khalnayak & Subhash Ghai Revealed Why He Ditched Every Actor For This Villain(Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

Khal Nayak, released in 1993, has developed a cult following over the years. From the characters to the songs, the film holds a significant place in Indian cinema. Sanjay Dutt’s performance as Ballu Balram won hearts and is still regarded as one of his iconic performances. Subhash Ghai made the right decision to cast Dutt in that part, and he once revealed his reason behind his choice. Keep scrolling for the deets.

Ghai managed to balance mass appeal with moral questions about crime, justice, and redemption. Its mix of action, emotion and music became template for 90s masala blockbusters. The film featured Dutt in the titular role with Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Rakhee Gulzar, and Jackie Shroff in supporting roles. The movie won multiple accolades and awards, besides being a commercial success.

Subhash Ghai shared the real reason behind choosing Sanjay Dutt for Khal Nayak

In 2023, Khal Nayak turned 30, and during a conversation with Hindustan Times, Subhash Ghai shared how he locked Sanjay Dutt for the role. The filmmaker revealed he was adamant about taking Sanjay Dutt for the role. He reportedly turned down every other actor and chose Dutt for the lead role.

The veteran filmmaker recalled, “Once Sanju asked me why I chose him for the role, and I told him it was because of his eyes. Uski aankhon mein ek bholapan hai, ek bachpana hai. But in the very next moment, you see a man who’s full of anger. He plays the son, but at the same time, he justifies the character of a villain who kidnaps and murders.”

According to a latest report by Mid Day, a sequel to Khal Nayak is being planned. A top production house has acquired the exclusive rights to the film and its future adaptations, with plans to expand it into a cinematic universe featuring antihero-driven stories. As per the source, Sanjay Dutt will reprise the role along with new characters.

The source said, “The movie ended with Ballu being sentenced to life imprisonment. In the second instalment, Sanjay’s character will take the story forward with young actors. After Khal Nayak’s success, it was remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Punjabi. This time, the idea is to make the sequel in Hindi as well as other languages.” They also said, “It will include stories of heroic antagonists like Ballu, who was a victim of his situation.”

Familiar foes Liverpool and Manchester United do battle at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

A month or so ago, the hosts would’ve been heavy favourites but their wobble ahead of the international break – losing three times in a week – has given Man Utd hope.

Arne Slot has called for a reaction from his players ahead of Sunday’s derby clash and backed record signing Alexander Isak to make his mark.

Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Sunderland ahead of the international break has eased the pressure on Ruben Amorim and shown his system can work in the Premier League.

If they can follow that up with a result at Anfield against Liverpool, it could be the turning point that Amorim and the Red Devils need.

RadioTimes.com has rounded up everything you need to know about how to watch Liverpool v Man Utd on TV and online.

Sitges 2025: A New Version of ‘The Shrinking Man’ with Jean Dujardin

by Alex Billington
October 17, 2025

“I am the sum of my experiences; the shrinking has merely stripped away certain superficialities.” There’s a brand new cinematic adaptation of the classic horror story The Incredible Shrinking Man ready for viewing. But not many people have heard about it yet, since it’s a European project and it just premiered at the 2025 Sitges Film Festival. This French / Belgian movie is officially titled L’homme qui rétrécit, which translates simply to The Shrinking Man. This fresh, clean new version has opted not to use the additional “incredible” adjective – immortalized by the iconic 1957 sci-fi horror classic The Incredible Shrinking Man film, directed by Jack Arnold, and starring Grant Williams. This adaptation, based on Richard Matheson’s original 1956 novel, The Shrinking Man, stars the always watchable Jean Dujardin as Paul, a shipbuilder who begins to slowly get smaller and smaller. It’s a peculiar yet fascinating movie that doesn’t live up to its potential, but is an intriguing, mostly entertaining watch nonetheless. If anything, it feels like a streaming movie more than a theatrical epic, but there’s still a few engaging scenes and Dujardin is fantastic as always.

This new version of The Shrinking Man is directed by Dutch filmmaker Jan Kounen (of Renegade, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, Vape Wave), from a screenplay written by Christophe Deslandes & Jan Kounen. Aside from setting it in a house on the beach and altering the lead character’s profession to shipbuilding, it’s pretty much exactly as the original novel describes. “Once an unremarkable husband and father, [Paul] finds himself shrinking with no end in sight… His wife and family turn into unreachable giants, the family cat becomes a predatory menace, and [Paul] must struggle to survive in a world that seems to be growing ever larger and more perilous – until he faces the ultimate limits of fear and existence.” Jean Dujardin plays Paul – at first he’s as unremarkable as this book describes, but really stands out once he becomes emotional & expressive when he becomes tiny. An anomaly while swimming is what begins his shrinking process. While he has a wife (played by Marie-Josée Croze) and a young daughter, the film quickly becomes a one-man-show once he starts getting smaller & smaller. When the cat accidentally gets inside the house, he flees into the basement and ends up stuck down there. The film shifts into survival mode and becomes something else.

Also directly from the novel – the big bad villain in the movie is a freaky spider that starts hunting him once he sets up camp in the basement. The intriguing twist in this one is that the spider is an unkillable force, not something he must defeat but rather must overcome in life. Again, this is perfectly described in the original Matheson book: “It was more than a spider. It was every unknown terror in the world fused into wriggling, poison-jawed horror. It was every anxiety, insecurity, and fear in his life given a hideous, night-black form.” Early on in the movie, Paul tells his daughter that he won’t kill the spider (while a regular size man) because they’re good, they’re useful, they have a purpose and there’s no need to get rid of it. Yet later this creature comes back to taunt and torture him. Of course, the whole point of this story is to teach everyone about the power of perspective & relativity. Human beings are used to being a certain size. If that size changes, we will experience the world completely differently. And now cinema allows us to have a much more visceral experience bringing this story to life with a real human being. The sets and VFX work are legit – they make this story way more believable than any of the Ant-Man movies or any other shrinking man stories recently.

That said, this version The Shrinking Man also still feels like it’s lacking. The script runs out of steam in the third act, the ending is non-existent, there’s not much more to it than bare-bones storytelling with a terrific lead performance. It’s another “rough around the edges” movie but in this case that makes it almost boring at times. Even though this kind of movie should never be boring… It’s also not really a horror movie at all, and not really sci-fi either. This movie has a very clean aesthetic & feels more like a strange French combo of Honey I Shrunk the Kids meets Cast Away meets The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The entire middle segment when he figures out how to survive on his own as a tiny being in this basement is reminiscent of the kooky survival scenes in Cast Away. The story about his shrinking has the same mysterious, unexplainable, yet still alluring vibes as Fincher’s underrated adaptation of Benjamin Button – and this film also ends as abruptly as that. I really wish there was more to it, because I enjoyed so much of it, alas it never achieves the greatness it’s clearly aiming for as a modern take on this classic story. Nonetheless it is a fascinating story of overcoming your greatest fears and struggling to survive in a hostile world – still a valuable lesson for us all.

Alex’s Sitges 2025 Rating: 6.5 out of 10

Springsteen film strips away the myth to depict ‘Bruce, the man’

LONDON, – U.S. rock star Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance on the London Film Festival red carpet on Wednesday, lending his support to the cast and makers of a new biographical movie about his life.

“Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” stars “The Bear” actor Jeremy Allen White as the multiple Grammy winner. But instead of focusing on his high-flying career, it offers a raw portrayal of the person behind the music.

Directed and co-written by Scott Cooper, the film is based on the book of the same name by Warren Zanes. It follows a young Springsteen, on the cusp of hitting the big time, struggling with his inner demons and childhood trauma while writing the stark 1982 album “Nebraska”.

White said the drama, which also delves into Springsteen’s fraught relationship with his father, played by Stephen Graham, shows a difficult but decisive period in the rocker’s life.

“I think at the core of it so much is about that longing for familial connection and the relationship between him and his father,” said White. “I think he made decisions during this period in his life that allowed him to live the life that he wanted to live.”

The film also features “Succession” star Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s supportive, longtime manager Jon Landau.

“It’s a film obviously about Bruce and about the making of ‘Nebraska’, but it’s about repairing trauma through art and confronting depression and mental health issues,” said Strong.

“I think it’s an incredibly courageous story to tell about someone as mythologised as Bruce, to tell the story of Bruce, the man,” Strong said.

The movie marks the first time the musician’s life has been depicted on the big screen. Springsteen, 76, was closely involved in the production.

“Very early on, he listened to me singing his songs. He said, ‘you sing very well. You sound like me, not just like me. You’re making the songs your own and I want the whole process to feel that way,'” White recalled. “Without that sort of blessing, I don’t think I would have been able to do what I did.

“He’s been very generous in every way. He gave me the guitar I learned to play on. I still have it,” White said.

The film begins its global cinematic rollout on October 22.

101-year-old man who survived coma, heart attack, fought in World War II shares 7 habits that contributed to long life

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

American centenarian Si Liberman, 101, has shared his seven ‘longevity tips’, drawing from his remarkable life experiences, including surviving a coma, the Great Depression, a heart attack, and enemy fire over Nazi Germany in World War II. In an October 13 piece he wrote for The Washington Post, Si, shared seven hard-earned tips he picked up along the way that contributed to his long life. Also read | Nutritionist shares 5 Japanese habits Indians can adopt for long and healthy life

Si Liberman, 101, attributes his longevity partly to not smoking, a habit prevalent among his peers when he was young.

He wrote in the article titled, ‘I’m 101 years old: Here are 7 things I think are ‘longevity secrets’:

1. Focus on relationships

“I’ve been very lucky. I’ve been married for 76 years to my wife, Dorothy, 97. We have two terrific children who we’re very close to, and two grandchildren who always keep in touch,” Si said.

2. Don’t smoke

He added, “Most everyone smoked when I was young, but I didn’t. When I started dating my wife, she was smoking now and again, but I got her to quit.”

3. Exercise and eat healthy

“We’ve always tried to eat healthy. I have fruit for breakfast and eat a lot of fish. After moving to Florida 14 years ago, my routine has included walking on the beach followed by swimming in our building’s pool,” Si said.

4. Have a positive attitude

“Despite having to get through some dark days, I’ve never been down for very long. If I have a cold, I think it will be better soon. If I’m going through a rough time, I think I just have to live through it and things will look up. I think attitude is highly underrated and can’t be underestimated,” Si added.

5. Get appropriate medical care

He also said, “I’ve benefited from the scientific progress we’ve made in treating health conditions and what I would call the miracles of modern medicine. We’ve always been careful and had routine appointments with doctors.”

6. Do work you find meaningful

Si said, “When I was working, I was editor of the Asbury Park Sunday Press, a privately owned paper. It was a challenging and rewarding job as a journalist for more than 40 years. And I still do a little writing to keep busy.”

7. Be a little lucky

He concluded, “I believe I’ve been a lucky guy in a 79-year relationship with my wife. Though she’s had some memory problems since falling several times, she always remembers to exchange kisses before we go to sleep at night. Living with someone you care about, who also cares about you, really helps.”

“You know why they cheer for you down there? If you could survive against those goons, so can they…” Paramount has launched the second official trailer for the sci-fi action movie The Running Man, the next new Edgar Wright movie after Last Night in Soho in 2021. Landing in theaters this November – exactly one month from now. Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) – it is the second adaptation of the book following that 80s movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Set in a dystopian future, a game show called “The Running Man” has people chased by murderous Hunters across the world to win money. Ben Richards is willing to go the distance in this ultimate game of life and death… This new 2025 version stars Glen Powell as Ben, with Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, Sean Hayes, and Colman Domingo. This is the best trailer yet! Looks like a blast! All the explosive traps set in the house seen at the end of this trailer look like so much ridiculous fun. I really hope Powell wins the game.

Here’s the second official trailer (+ poster) for Edgar Wright’s movie The Running Man, from YouTube:

The Running Man is directed by acclaimed British genre filmmaker Edgar Wright, director of the films A Fistful of Fingers, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World’s End, Baby Driver, and Last Night in Soho recently, plus The Sparks Brothers doc. The screenplay is written by Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall (of Scott Pilgrim, Project X, 21 & 22 Jump Street). Based on the 1982 sci-fi novel “The Running Man” from writer Stephen King. Sammy Hagar has been hosting his annual Birthday Bash over the past week at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas.

The Bash — a run of four shows in seven days — kicked off October 7th and wraps up with a final gig tonight on the Red Rocker’s birthday, October 13th. The concerts typically feature a large guest list of performers and rock royalty, and this year, Hagar brought out Alice in Chains guitarist-singer Jerry Cantrell, Belinda Carlisle, Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna, and more.

Cantrell’s appearances have been a highlight, with the grunge pioneer taking the stage with axeman Zach Throne for renditions of Alice classics (“Would,” “Rooster,” and “Man in the Box”) alongside Hagar’s rhythm section of drummer Kenny Aronoff and Van Halen bassist and longtime Hagar bandmate Michael Anthony.

On the third night, Cantrell changed things up, commanding lead vocals on a festive cover of Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” before surrendering the mic to the Red Rocker himself for “Man in the Box.” Hagar forces a deeper growl than we usually hear from him, as heard in audience footage.

Other memorable guest appearances have included Belinda Carlisle performing The Go-Go’s “We Got the Beat” and her own hit “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” on Night 3, and various performances by Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna, including renditions of songs by Journey (“Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” with Deen Castronovo) and Van Halen (“Best of Both Worlds” in a duet with Hagar), according to Setlist.fm.
