“Work in Milan and sleep in Sicily? This Christmas, it will be possible.” Ha! I wonder if this a funny concept only Italians will understand? Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a an extra wacky comedy mini-series titled Sicily Express, ready for streaming on Netflix starting in early December. Another holiday offering from Netflix – this one is really made just for Italians to laugh about. With Christmas around the corner, two blundering Sicilian friends working in Milan discover a dumpster that transports them to their families in seconds. It’s a fun concept where this trash bin allows them to travel instantly between North Italy (where Milan is) and South Italy (where Sicily and Palermo and Naples are located). The new miniseries is written, directed, and starring Ficarra & Picone. The beloved Sicilian duo returns with a five-episode holiday comedy launching in December. Along with Salvatore Ficarra & Valentino Picone, the cast also includes Katia Follesa & Barbara Tabita, along with Max Tortora, Sergio Vastano, Enrico Bertolino, Adelaide Massari, & Angelo Tosto, plus a special appearance by Giorgio Tirabassi. This is exceptionally goofy & the humor is dumb, but I gotta say – it does look fun enough to watch. Especially during the holidays. Enjoy.

Sicily Express is a comedy series that tells the story of Salvo and Valentino, two Sicilian nurses who split their lives between their work in Milan and their families back home in Sicily at the bottom of Italy. Just a few days before Christmas, they stumble upon a magical portal inside a garbage bin — an unexpected discovery destined to turn their lives upside down… though not necessarily for the better. Sicily Express, also known as Sicilia Express in Italian, is a comedy mini-series created and made and written and directed by the Italian actors / comedians Salvatore Ficarra & Valentino Picone – aka Ficarra and Picone – also directors of La matassa, It May Be Love But It Doesn’t Show, Andiamo a quel paese, L’ora legale, Once Upon a Time in Bethlehem, and the series “Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery” previously. With additional writing by Fabrizio Cestaro, Nicola Guaglianone, Fabrizio Testini. Produced by Tramp Limited. “Known throughout Wildwood as The General. She embodies power & unshakeable grace.” Laika revealed a fascinating 3-minute making of featurette for their next stop-motion animated movie called Wildwood – now set for release sometime in 2026. We featured the very first teaser for this back in 2024 – they’ve been developing it for years and it’s only now finishing up. The character of Prue was revealed in the first look – Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest near Portland after Prue’s baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows, led by a mysterious woman. The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay as Curtis, Carey Mulligan, Awkwafina, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Jemaine Clement, & Richard E. Grant. This promo focuses on their famous stop-motion studio (based in Portland) figure out how to create the magical Golden Eagle character. They built 2 extraordinary puppets used in filming. “Meet The General, voiced by Angela Bassett, a fierce warrior and leader of the skies. Behind the scenes, the brilliant artists at Laika Studios are hand-crafting a character that soars beyond the screen through breathtaking stop-motion animation.” Can’t wait to see more. I love watching videos of stop-motion animation craft, always astonishing what they make.

Step inside Laika’s Wildwood, where a powerful golden eagle commands the skies and magic takes flight. Wildwood – based on Colin Meloy’s illustrated book series – will see Prue McKeel leave behind her home of Portland, Oregon, venturing into Wildwood on a dark quest to save her baby brother, who’s been pilfered by a murder of crows. Wildwood is once again directed by filmmaker Travis Knight, who is also CEO of Laika, and director of the the movies Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee previously. The screenplay is written by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, Missing Link). Based on the graphic novel series written by Colin Meloy and illustrated by Carson Ellis. Produced by Arianne Sutner and Travis Knight. Made by Laika Entertainment’s animators based in Portland, Oregon. There’s no final release date for Wildwood yet – expected to arrive in early 2026. Overall, Venus in Libra will be a whimsical time to embrace our affections and aspirations for a select group of special people or one individual in particular. Although we might not see it at first, this is a magical moment to make commitments and to define our relationships. “You are the writer of your own stories.” Apple TV+ has revealed a full official trailer for an animated series titled The Sisters Grimm, an animated fantasy adventure series riffing on the classic The Brothers Grimm tales. Animated & produced by Titmouse for Apple TV, this series is based on the books of the same name. The Sisters Grimm is a children’s fantasy series written by Michael Buckley / illustrated by Peter Ferguson. The stories are partially based on the works and lives of the Brothers Grimm, with the titular protagonists, Sabrina Grimm & Daphne Grimm, being their fictional descendants, and the supporting cast featuring many characters from the Grimms’ collection of fairytales. On the show – two orphaned sisters navigate a town full of people torn straight from fantasy & fairy tales, confronting heroes & villains alike, while investigating the mystery of their missing parents. With the voices of Ariel Winter as Sabrina, Leah Newman as Daphne, plus Laraine Newman, Abubakar Salim, Billy Harris, Harry Trevaldwyn, and JB Blanc as “The Giant”. They have doggie sidekick and go on all kinds of magical adventures? Yep this looks like tons of fun.
