Thanks to remote work and virtual dating apps, young Indian daters are matching across borders, different time zones, exploring different cultures, and even languages. How are digital daters redefining romance?

The dating world is seeing a phenomenal shift. The digital daters, the laptop-toting, globe-trotting, Wi-Fi-hunting romantics who can juggle meetings from the mountains and falling in love with someone they matched with on their workation. And it’s not as rare as it might sound; in fact, a survey by dating app QuackQuack revealed that 16% of Indian daters have met their perfect match on the go. Work or travel did not stop them from finding love. And 2 in 5 of these daters are open to moving to their partner’s city, if their relationship demands it.

Why is nomadic dating making sense today?

This “nomadic dating” actually makes perfect sense in the present world. If jobs are no longer limited by pin codes, why should love be? Geographical borders are blurring, thanks to online dating, and so is the idea of a ‘perfect match’. A woman from Tamil Nadu might have once wanted to date a Tamil man because they would better understand each other, but that is no longer the case in 2025. Several people from one corner of the country have found their love on the other side, giving rise to a phenomenal time of inter-state and cross-cultural connections.

Is long-distance dating brutal or rewarding?

Of course, it’s not all glittery. 12% of online matches in an LDR reveal that the distance can be brutal at times, but they also expressed that the same long distance pushes them to have more meaningful conversations and share more quality time when they finally meet in person. The idea of “taking for granted” is less of a worry in these long-distance digital romances, where every moment counts.

On an interesting note, cross-city daters claim that this format makes dating more exciting; there’s more scope for travel, learning new things about different cultures, and ultimately, there’s greater acceptance and understanding when two people learn about each other’s values, traditions, and lifestyles from scratch.

My first introduction to Bill Nighy came via the vaguely lecherous “washed-up pop star” he so expertly plays in the backbone of the British Christmas canon, Love Actually. I was probably (definitely) too young to understand any of the jokes, but since that first fateful viewing, I’ve watched it enough times to recite the script start to finish—a limited-use party trick that’s not particularly enjoyable for whoever’s watching it with me. And, though my repertoire of comfort films has grown, Nighy has remained a constant: whether I’m hysterically crying through About Time or rewatching Emma and Chalet Girl for the millionth time, his unique breed of British stoicism and understated style is always there.

Beyond his extensive acting credits, Nighy has become quietly famous for his no-nonsense opinions on the machinations of life and regular sightings in and around London cafés. Meanwhile, his penchant for clothes has led to a partnership with the heritage knitwear brand John Smedley. The love story between Nighy and Smedley dates back over five decades, though it’s only recently that the actor has stepped out of the role of long-time wearer and into the creative collaborator seat to produce a collection of ’40s-inspired twinsets and long johns, in addition to the merino and cashmere classics.

With its discreet doodles and a “Stay Modern” mantra woven into the collection, Nighy hopes he “hasn’t done anything to disturb the average customer,” adding that “the people who buy John Smedley are pretty committed to the brand, but I’ve committed to crimes.” And for anyone in need of more sage soundbites from the star, you’re in luck: he’s just launched the podcast Ill-Advised by Bill Nighy, which allows listeners to call in for words of wisdom, no matter how trivial. Not only is Cardi preparing to welcome a new baby, but she also recently birthed her new album Am I the Drama?—her first since her 2018 debut Invasion of Privacy. One of the tracks is called “Safe”—and she’s noted that’s exactly how Stefon makes her feel.

“Very safe,” Cardi told Gayle King on CBS Mornings. “In both ways—physically, I mean, you see how big he is. He just makes me feel safe and very confident and very strong.”

And while her upcoming tour is called Little Miss Drama—which she noted will kick off in February after the baby is born—Cardi isn’t looking for any drama when it comes to her relationship.

“One time he just told me like, ‘Let me heal you,'” she added. “‘Give me a chance for me to heal you.'”

Cardi has had to tackle one complex situation head on. Model Aileen Lopera filed a lawsuit last December accusing Stefon of fathering the baby girl she gave birth to in April, according to court documents obtained by People. The athlete contested the allegation, per the docs obtained by the outlet, and requested genetic testing to determine paternity.

As for Cardi, she didn’t finesse how she felt about the claim.

“Hello, Barbara. This is Shirley,” she said in a Sept. 20 video, referencing the lyrics of Shirley Brown‘s song “Woman to Woman” in which a woman calls her man’s mistress. “That’s your baby daddy, b—h? That’s my baby daddy, too. Well what now? I don’t f–king know. We’ll figure it out b—h.”

Kiran Abbavaram’s K Ramp and Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude will clash in theatres later this month. The Telugu actor rued about the state of affairs in TN. 

Telugu actor Kiran Abbavaram lamented the fact that Telugu actors don’t receive the same level of love in Tamil Nadu that Tamil and other language actors do in Telugu states. In an interview with Galatta Plus, Kiran compared the release of his upcoming film K Ramp in TN to Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude in Telugu states and said this.

Kiran Abbavaram says no young Telugu actor has market in Tamil

Kiran stated in the interview that he recently watched Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra in theatres, and it was running houseful in Hyderabad even in the second week. Talking about Telugu films not receiving the same kind of attention in other states, particularly in TN, he said, “My only concern is that even Telugu heroes are making good content. But it’s not rolling there like how we are watching. People say it will be watched if the content is great. But young Telugu heroes are also making great content. Almost ten Tamil heroes have a prominent market in Telugu now. No young Telugu hero has the same in Tamil.”

Says Pradeep Ranganathan doesn’t have to struggle for screens in Telugu states

Kiran then drew parallels between how his film K Ramp will never get enough theatres in TN, but Pradeep’s Dude will not struggle in Andhra Pradesh or Telangana. “Now I want to release K Ramp in Tamil theatres, as Pradeep Ranganathan has secured theatres in Telugu for his film. I also wanted my film to be released there in that way. But I know I won’t get it. Now, when I say this, everyone will discuss logistics, stardom, and other related topics. I can’t say it’s a mafia, it’s just a business. We just want the same kind of love we are giving. I hope I get it at least for Chennai Love Story,” said Kiran.
