“Watching Mahesh Babu As Lord Rama Gave Me Goosebumps” – SS Rajamouli

by jummy84 November 16, 2025
written by jummy84

SS Rajamouli’s fascination for Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata is known. The director too on many occasions earlier expressed interest to make a film on any one of the two classics. And at the title reveal event of his upcoming film Varanasi, Rajamouli shared an interesting experience.

SS Rajamouli

Mahesh Babu as Lord Rama

Rajamouli shared that he wasn’t sure whether Mahesh Babu looks apt for the role of Lord Rama. Instead, he believes that the superstar has more traits that suit Lord Krishna. But before commencing Varanasi film shooting, he did a test shoot with Mahesh for the role of Rama. “Even when I started this film (Varanasi), I never thought that I’d touch a chapter related to Ramayana,” the director shares, adding that as he kept developing the story he felt like he was cloud nine. He said, “The first day when I was doing a photo shoot session with Mahesh Babu as Lord Rama, I had goosebumps.” The director further revealed that he had kept Mahesh’s Lord Rama photo as his mobile wallpaper. He concluded, “But later I deleted it because someone may see it”.

Mahesh Babu Rudra

“Luck to have shot a Ramayana episode”

Rajamouli further shares that working for the film Varanasi has been a liberating experience. The taskmaster recalls shooting for an intense action episode that lasts approximately around 30 minutes. The action episode was shot for 60 days and the unit completed it recently. Rajamouli said, “Shooting for the episode every day was a challenge. There are many sub episodes as part of the main episode, and every sub episode needs to be interesting, engaging and creative. Thankfully, it came nicely. And that sequence will be one of my memorable episodes not only in my career but also in Mahesh’s career.” Elaborating on Mahesh’s screen presence in that episode, the director said, “He looks handsome yet furious; generous yet enraged. Mahesh showed all the navarasas as Lord Rama. I am so lucky to have shot this episode.”

Vicky Kaushal Gave Up Non-Veg And Alcohol For His Upcoming Role As Lord Parashurama in Amar Kaushik’s “Mahavatar”

After the massive success of Chhava, Vicky Kaushal is all set to take on another epic historical film. The actor will soon collaborate with Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik for a magnum opus titled “Mahavatar”, based on the life of Chiranjeevi Parashurama, an immortal incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to a recent report by one of the media houses, Vicky Kaushal has decided to make significant lifestyle changes before stepping into this divine role.

Vicky Kaushal Quit Alcohol

The actor plans to give up alcohol and non-vegetarian food as part of his preparation for Mahavatar. A source close to the film revealed, “A film like Mahavatar requires complete concentration, and both Vicky Kaushal and Amar Kaushik are determined to give it their all. They’ve decided to give up non-vegetarian food and alcohol. Preparations for the film will begin with a grand puja ceremony next year.”

The source further added, “Amar has already given up his eating and drinking habits, while Vicky will do the same after completing the shoot of Love and War. This is his way of showing respect to the character of Lord Parashurama.” The much-anticipated project, produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, is expected to go on floors in late 2026 and release in theaters in 2028. The film is touted to be one of the biggest mythological productions ever made in India, combining cutting-edge technology with a story rooted in ancient Indian lore.

In May 2025, producer Dinesh Vijan spoke about Mahavatar, emphasizing the importance of telling stories inspired by India’s heritage. He said, “Over the last 10 years, we’ve been focusing on telling stories rooted in our own culture rather than chasing Western narratives. India is the only country with such rich mythology and history. Stree and Chhava are examples of that. Mahavatar is probably our biggest film yet, we want to make it grand, world-class, and culturally authentic.”

bitchy | King Charles’s current Lord Steward was head of royal protection in 2011

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Over the weekend, about a full day after Prince Andrew volunteered to relinquish his royal titles and honors, the Mail reported that Andrew asked one of his royal protection officers to dig up information about Virginia Giuffre. Andrew had gotten ahold of Virginia’s date of birth and Social Security number, and he passed the information along to the police officers guarding him. He bragged about all of this to Ed Perkins, who was then Queen Elizabeth II’s deputy press secretary. No one knows if Andrew’s RPOs actually looked into Virginia. But what is known is that many people around Andrew AND QEII knew that Andrew was trying to dig up dirt on her. Well, at the same time Andrew was ordering his RPOs to do this, the head of royal protection was a man by the name of Peter Loughborough. He’s currently known as Lord Peter Rosslyn, Lord Steward and Personal Secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla.

A current senior member of the King’s household was the head of royal protection at the time Prince Andrew allegedly asked one of his police officers to dig up dirt on Virginia Guiffre, Sky News has discovered. Lord Peter Rosslyn, who is now Lord Steward and Personal Secretary to the King and Queen, was head of Royalty and Diplomatic Protection between 2003-2014.

It is not clear if Lord Rosslyn – known at the time as Commander Peter Loughborough – was made aware of Prince Andrew’s request. However, it reportedly happened in 2011 when it’s claimed Andrew wrote in an email that he passed the date of birth and confidential social security number of his accuser, Virginia Guiffre, to one of his close protection team to find out information about her.

At the weekend, the Metropolitan Police said it was “actively looking into the claims made”. Sky News approached Lord Rosslyn for comment, which was passed to Buckingham Palace.

A palace spokesperson said: “As you may or may not be aware, Lord Rosslyn works for The Royal Household and thus this issue has been referred to me. However, since this matter relates to his time in service with the Metropolitan Police, they would be the appropriate body to approach with media enquiries of this nature.”

The Met Police had nothing further to add. Police sources have told Sky News the officer (CPO) involved would have been expected to escalate this request from Andrew to his superiors.

While there may have been other members of senior staff between the CPO and Lord Rosslyn, the request should have been considered serious enough to be referred to the top of the Royalty and Diplomatic Service. Those with knowledge of the royal household tell us Lord Rosslyn is one of the King’s closest and most trusted members of staff. His role as Lord Steward involves managing all aspects of the King’s personal affairs, and the non-state business of the monarch.

[From Sky News]

While I’m not expecting to hear much more about this investigatory avenue, I think it’s interesting that royal reporters are at least doing some bare-bones straight reporting. They’re looking into who was part of the royal protection unit in 2011, who might have received Andrew’s information about Virginia, and whether the officers did anything about it, including “inform their commanding officers that a prince wanted them to dig up dirt on an American trafficking survivor.” If we had an FBI worth a damn, I’m sure they’d like to know if British police were actively investigating and dirt-digging on an American citizen/survivor as well. It would certainly be interesting to know if the king’s current Lord Steward has any recollection of the king’s brother ordering RPOs to look into Virginia. It would certainly be fascinating to see Ravec deal with this quandary too, especially since members of the royal households sit on the committee which assigns royal protection. It’s not so much a Venn diagram as much as it is just one big circle.

Praise the Lord!

When a 10-year-old Freddie Ross Jr. stepped into the Pressing Onward Baptist Church — a little brick building on Danneel Street in New Orleans — he was mesmerized by the spirit he felt and the celebration he witnessed among its congregants. He knew it was a safe place.

Young Freddie, known best now as Big Freedia, lived in a rough, impoverished neighborhood where crime was rampant. “It was just a safe haven for being in my community… this place was where I could go and get away from all of that,” says Big Freedia.

More from Spin:

But it was also a space where that child felt he could be himself.

“I was a loud and flamboyant little boy. My godmother, Georgia, who was the choir director, she just made sure that I was loved,” she says. “They opened their arms and they held me and hugged me and laughed. That’s what made it feel safe.” Georgia gave Big Freedia her first singing lessons and helped her grow into the role as the church’s choir director.

This summer she releases her first-ever gospel album, Pressing Onward, to pay homage to the church community that helped her find herself.

The timing of the record is no accident. At a time when America is as politically divided as ever and the LGBTQ+ and transgender communities are under attack, Pressing Onward is an album filled with positivity and light, about healing, when America is in desperate need of it.

“The state of where the world lives right now inspired me to want to write this album, but I also wanted to take it back to the roots where I grew up, where I started in the choir,” she says.

Pressing Onward is unabashedly jubilant, revelatory, and freeing. With songs such as “Highway to Heaven,” “Revival,” and ‘Church,” its religious themes are not subtle. But the only thing it’s proselytizing is love. Listening to it is like walking into a Black southern church on a Sunday morning and getting swept up by the choir; an almost mystic trance comes over you. It’s a record, she says, that also pays tribute to the gospel artists she grew up listening to, such as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Ricky Dillard, Hezekiah Walker, and Milton Brunson.

Pressing Onward is Big Freedia’s third studio album, and follows her pattern of exploring different genres. Her 2014 major label debut, Just Be Free is a straight-up hip-hop record.  Central City, released nine years later in 2023, is New Orleans bounce — the celebratory, hyper local upbeat hip-hop that originated in the New Orleans housing projects and earned her the “Queen of Bounce” moniker. She has also released a live album, Live at the Orpheum Theatre (2024) and five EPs: A Very Big Freedia Christmazz (2016), 3rd Ward Bounce (2018), Louder (2020), Big Freedia’s Smokin Santa Christmas (2020), and Big Diva Energy (2021).

The new album is a message of hope for her listeners but also a reminder to herself to keep hope alive, even in the darkest times.

“I’ve had so many different things happened in my life,” she says. “I’ve lost so many people in my life. I’ve lost my mother and my father both to cancer. I’ve lost lots of different relatives, friends, and family that’s in the neighborhood. And so just over the years there have been a lot of dark roads and I just needed a path of life for myself as well. And I know that the world needs it as much as I do.

“I just want to bring happiness and joy to the world. I want people to know that there’s still hope.”

Marco sequel in the works? Makers register Lord Marco as title without Unni Mukundan

Updated on: Sept 17, 2025 09:01 pm IST

Unni Mukundan’s Marco was a huge success at the box office when it released in 2024. The actor has since shared that he will not be part of the sequel.

Marco, released in 2024, became a huge box office hit and earned ₹100 crore worldwide. Starring Unni Mukundan in the lead, the film stirred controversy for its violence. Many touted it as India’s most violent film ever, and there were reports of viewers throwing up in theatres due to the gore.

Unni Mukundan had earlier said there will be no sequel to Marco.

Marco sequel registered

On Wednesday, trade analyst AB George shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter), which revealed that a sequel to Marco is in the works. The picture was that of the official papers where the makers- Cubes Entertainment, registered the name of the sequel of the film as ‘Lord Marco.’

The name of Haneef Adeni was also seen in the official paper but there was no mention of lead star Unni Mukundan. There has been no official announcement regarding the same.

That might come as no surprise to fans as Unni had previously shared that he won’t be interested in doing a sequel. In June, Unni had shared a video showing his weight loss transformation. In the comments section, a fan asked him about Marco 2, to which he replied, “Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

Directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by Shareef Muhammed under his Cubes Entertainments banner, Marco was a revenge saga that also starred Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh.

Unni’s next project

Interestingly, on Wednesday, it was also announced that Unni would play the lead role in Maa Vande, a biopic tracing PM Modi’s life journey. Sharing the announcement about starring in Modi’s biopic, Unni wrote on his X account, “A man’s story that rises beyond battles… to become a revolution for the ages. #MaaVande it is. Wishing the Honourable Prime Minister @Narendramodi Ji a very Happy Birthday. May glory be revived and brighter things await.”

Orlando Bloom says he would “hate to see” another actor play Legolas in new ‘Lord Of The Rings’ film

by jummy84 September 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Orlando Bloom has said he would “hate” to see another actor play Legolas in The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.

The upcoming film was provisionally announced in 2023, with Andy Serkis, who portrayed Gollum in the original Peter Jackson film trilogy, returning to the role and also directing the film.

In May, Deadline reported that the film would be released into cinemas on December 17, 2027, following on in the mid-to-late December release window that proved successful for the Jackson trilogy from 2001 to 2003 and his subsequent Hobbit trilogy from 2012 to 2014.

Further casting has not been confirmed, although Sir Ian McKellen said last year that he would consider returning to the role of Gandalf for the film if he is “still alive” when it is being made.

Now, Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in the original trilogy as well as The Desolation Of Smaug (2013) and The Battle Of The Five Armies (2014), has had his say on the future of his character.

Appearing on the Today show, he said he had “not heard a peep” about who would be playing Legolas in The Hunt For Gollum, adding: “It’s such an amazing part. I’m so grateful to have been a part of those movies. But I haven’t heard.”

“Listen, I’d hate to see anyone else play Legolas, you know what I mean?” he added. “What are they going to do? Are they going to put somebody else in as Legolas? With AI, they can do anything these days!”

Viggo Mortensen has also weighed in on the possibility of returning to the franchise to reprise his role of Aragorn. “I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. It would be silly to do it otherwise,” he said.

Meanwhile, the prequel TV series The Rings Of Power will definitely return for a third season, Amazon Prime Video confirmed earlier this year. The second season ran from August to October 2024, with new episodes expected to start shooting imminently.

Ron Howard’s Darkly Funny Adult ‘Lord of the Flies’

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Vertical releases “Eden” in theaters Friday, August 22, 2025.

Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) is loath to repeat anyone else, so when his writer’s block finds him spitting out quotes from bigger, better, far more well-known philosophers, he knows things are going badly. Things have, in fact, been going badly for a very long time, as is prone to happen when someone moves to an uninhabited island and attempts to carve out a new world order. Still, had Friedrich — a very real person — been a bit more comfortable with the idea of repeating someone else, he likely would have found plenty of comfort in Jean-Paul Sartre’s perpetually prescient observation that “Hell is other people.”

Lurker

Such is the thrust of Ron Howard’s darkly funny “Eden,” a fact-based story that follows what happened after Friedrich and his partner Dora Strauch (Vanessa Kirby) moved to a Galapagos Island (Floreana, to be precise) after the end of World War I (and the start of all the stuff that would lead to World War II) in search of a very different way of living, only to find that they simply can’t shake the stuff that tends to make society so unbearable (read: other people). Frederich likes to act as if he’s above it all, but at a certain point, he started sending out missives to the outside world touting the paradise he and Dora have created, so they shouldn’t be so surprised when people start showing up, seeking a similar life.

Oh, but are they ever. Frederich’s dream is to, by his own admission, “save humanity,” but the furthest he got in that process was to move away from the entire world to bang away at his typewriter, dreaming up nonsense philosophy he’s completely (and hilariously) unable to live out himself. While he and Dora (who has MS, which they try to clear with meditation, sex, and hard living) have carved out a bit of a living on Floreana, it’s precarious by every measure. “Everything on this island can kill you” Dora tells their newest visitors, and it’s perhaps the most true thing anyone says throughout Noah Pink’s clever screenplay.

Those new visitors? The Wittmer family: father Heinz (Daniel Bruhl), second wife Margret (Sydney Sweeney, who gets one hell of a go-for-broke sequence in this film), and ill son Harry (Jonathan Tittel). The family has been enthralled by what they’ve read in the German papers of Friedrich and Dora’s adventures, and they want in. They show up in kicky little camp clothes, toting butterfly nets, starry-eyed at the whole affair. Friedrich and Dora promptly send them up the hill to a notoriously infertile slice of the island — Dora’s beloved burro helps, and that will be the last time that happens — and expect they’ll abandon the whole affair in weeks. They don’t.

Eden
‘Eden’Courtesy TIFF

Things are already feeling “Lord of the Flies”-y enough already, but with a distinctly adult bent and plenty of unexpected humor, and that’s before “Baroness” Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas, a scream in a cast filled with standout performances) shows up, all delusional big talk about building the world’s most luxurious hotel (for millionaires only!), most of it helped along mightily be her dedicated cadre of manservants and lovers (including Felix Kammerer and Toby Wallace). On an island filled with blinkered people (and that’s being generous), Eloise is queen. Well, that’s the plan.

As she starts pulling strings between her friends and neighbors — all of it both obvious and understandable, and truly entertaining enough that you’ll laugh out loud when Law proclaims “deus ex machina!” at a plot twist that is precisely that — Eden collapses. “Eden” does not. Howard and his stacked cast keep the entire thing chugging right along toward the inevitable, and even that doesn’t feel so expected, if only because of how damn funny this trip straight to Hell feels.

A certain amount of creative license helps — goodness knows, no one on Floreana looked quite this good as they were coming undone in increasingly dark manners — even as occasionally bloodless drama feels like a whiff. Listen, for a film in which Sydney Sweeney fights off a pack of feral dogs while giving birth by herself, things could (and maybe even should) feel a lot more fucked up than what we get in “Eden.”

But what we do get from Howard’s latest is a strong reminder of his handle on not just craft and casting, but also story and tone. No film about the utter demise of a supposed utopia — a real one, to boot! — and the utter infallibility of human beings should be this fun, but we’re lucky this one is. It helps the hard truths go down easier, especially about who we all are as people (you know, hellish).

Grade: B
