Purpose keeps people: 92% of employees say they would stay longer at companies that support giving back

by jummy84 November 26, 2025
written by jummy84

New research from CTW Events reveals that staff loyalty, wellbeing and workplace culture are increasingly being shaped by a single factor: purpose.

The 2025 survey conducted this autumn shows overwhelming demand for workplace volunteering, with over nine in ten (92%) saying they are more likely to stay with a company that actively supports team volunteering, and 85% reporting that taking part in volunteering through work boosts their overall job satisfaction.

As businesses plan for 2026, the message is clear: corporate volunteering is no longer a nice-to-have, it has become essential to keeping people engaged, connected and committed.

The survey also highlights a major shift in how employees want to spend time with their colleagues. While traditional team socials still play a role, 83% say they are more likely to participate in team building if it has a meaningful social or environmental impact, and 92% believe purpose-led activities strengthen relationships more than traditional events.

Three quarters of respondents (76%) said they would welcome more opportunities to take part in volunteering through their work, with 87% saying they would be more likely to volunteer if the process was easier.

Since 2012, CTW Events has mobilised 237,000 hours of team‑building to build and distribute 6.3 million kits via 1,000+ charity partners worldwide. In 2024, the company delivered 1,550 global events – an incredible 300% increase on 2023 – which supports the survey findings that employee demand for purpose-led team building events is increasing sharply.

From community support projects to disaster relief kit builds, employees are demanding experiences that strengthen teams and boost morale while directly helping people in need, bridging the gap between employee passion and employer action.

Madison Ayache, Vice President at CTW Events, says: “Employees are asking for purpose, and they’re asking loud and clear. These findings show that workplace volunteering isn’t just good for communities, it lifts wellbeing, strengthens team bonds and directly influences retention.

“When companies make giving back accessible, engagement soars. Purpose drives performance, and in 2026, organisations that embrace this will be the ones that thrive.”

As workplace culture continues to evolve, CTW Events says the findings should act as a clear call to action: Employees want to contribute. With workplace volunteering now proven to influence satisfaction, loyalty and culture, the challenge for businesses is no longer whether to act, but how quickly they can embed purpose into everyday working life.

Megan Thee Stallion Is No Longer Arguing About Charting”

Megan Thee Stallion does not want to entertain arguments about her chart success. While candidly speaking at Taraji P. Henson’s I Am the Table Benefit Brunch, the Houston rapper opened up about once feeling the need to engage with fans, but no longer having the desire to participate in “tongue-wrestling on Twitter with you motherf**kers.”

“Of course, I’m competitive. Of course, rap is competitive, and hell yeah, I wanna win. I wanna be number one, for sure, but that’s not why I do it,” explained the 30-year-old in a clip circulating across social media. “I felt like, at a point, to please my fans because I love that my fans are very competitive, but I don’t wanna be tongue-wrestling on Twitter with you motherf**kers about charting. And y’all don’t even like my music.

“Y’all wanna bully other people because you think that the next girl is not doing as good as me, or you think that I’m not doing as good as the next girl, but did you listen to any of my songs, for real? Do you hear what I’m saying? Do you like what I’m saying? Or you just wanna brag?”

The Grammy winner continued, “So I felt like, damn, I gotta make music because I gotta be number one. I gotta chart, I gotta do this. Now, I’m like, you know what? [No] I’m gonna drop music when I feel like it. If you rock with me as Megan Thee Stallion, if you a hottie, thank you so much.”

Earlier this month, in recognition of World Mental Health Day, The Trevor Project, a prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people, honored Megan Thee Stallion with the 2025 Mental Health Champion of the Year Award.

“Megan Thee Stallion is a mental health champion in every sense of the word,” relayed Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, in a press statement.

“Her raw honesty, bold advocacy, and deep love for her community make her an extraordinary role model – particularly for Black LGBTQ+ youth, who face some of the highest rates of discrimination, mental health challenges, and suicide risk. Megan’s activism doesn’t just stop at words; she builds real, tangible resources for vulnerable communities that are too often overlooked or left behind. As a queer Black person, I wish I had someone like Megan to look up to when I was growing up. Her courage, her authenticity, and her unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy will echo for generations. The Trevor Project is proud to honor her incredible impact, especially at a time when LGBTQ+ young people are being stripped of life-saving resources. Megan Thee Stallion’s voice is not just powerful. It’s essential.”

As her October continues to heat up, the “Savage” performer revealed her annual Hottieween celebration will take place later this month in her home state. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday (Oct. 15) with proceeds benefiting her Pete & Thomas Foundation.

PVR’s Aamer Bijli says animated films are working at box office as they are no longer considered ‘kids’ cartoons’

by jummy84 September 25, 2025

It has been a great year for animation in India. Animated features have broken the glass ceiling when it comes to box office collections in the country. International studios and franchises are tailoring their films to the country in some cases. This boom has largely been the result of a shift in how audiences perceive animated storytelling, believes PVR’s Aamer Bijli.

PVR’s Aamer Bijli talks about the state of animation in India ahead of the release of Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers.

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Aamer touches upon the success of some animated films at the box office, and also how the upcoming Shin Chan film can take it forward.

Why animation is suddenly working in India

Aamer Bijli, Lead Specialist – Innovation, Film Marketing, and Digital Programming at PVR INOX, has been an anime fan for years now. Hence, he is quick to praise the box office success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. The anime has minted ₹65 crore in India. The previous record for an anime in the country was ₹9 crore.

Bijli says, “I think animation has been synonymous in India, especially with cartoons, for a very long time, which has really aided in limiting its acceptance, unfortunately. I was a massive fan of Pokémon, Beyblade, and Dragon Ball growing up. What I have realised is that the initial nostalgia really helps now. There are a lot of parents who are doubling down on that nostalgia by making their children watch all of these things for the first time. I think it’s only creating a newer and larger audience.”

But it’s not just anime that has succeeded in India recently. Mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha exceeded all expectations by grossing over ₹300 crore worldwide, 10 times as much as any Indian animated film had made prior to that. Talking about its success, Bijli adds, “Mahavatar Narima relied on our roots. It embedded mythology with philosophical insights, and it also resonated with the collective identity of a story that we’re already familiar with. All of this drew the audiences to the cinemas.”

The Shin Chan movie’s India setting

In this climate, the Japanese animated film, Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers, is releasing in India. Shin Chan already enjoys a sizable fan base in India. And on top of that, this film sees the beloved character travel to India. Is the Indian setting a nod to the country’s growing popularity as a market for animation? “I’ve been asked that question a lot,” says Bijli, adding, “I feel that would be an honour if they thought to set something in India consciously. It sure seems like it from the trailer that it is a show specifically done for India. I think it also makes sense considering Shin Chan is one of India’s most-watched international animated IPs, and has an extreme nostalgia-driven loyalty amongst millennials and young adults. So I wouldn’t be surprised.”

You know the different markets I think different horses for different courses right there are a lot of films that do extremely well in the US that don’t translate as well in India and and you know we face it all the time in our distribution business where we bet on films certain you know that that we believe will perform really really well uh in the Indian market due to the trickle down effect from Hollywood but unfortunately that’s not always the case. So I just think that the consumer base is so different sometimes uh that um it doesn’t always translate directly.

Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers is being presented in India by PVR INOX Pictures in association with Japan’s TV Asahi. The film releases in India this Friday, September 26.

Matthew Dowd No Longer With MSNBC After Charlie Kirk Comments

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

UPDATED: Matthew Dowd is no longer with MSNBC, a network source confirmed, following a furor over remarks he made in the aftermath of the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Earlier, the president of MSNBC apologized for remarks made by Dowd, a political analyst who had been with the network since 2022. Dowd also issued his own apology.

Rebecca Kutler said in the statement, “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”

Around 3 p.m. ET, as networks were scrambling for more details of what happened, MSNBC’s Katy Tur spoke about Utah’s gun laws before asking Dowd to talk about the “environment in which a shooting like this happens.” He told her, “We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. So we have no idea about this.”

He added about Kirk, “He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in. You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

Dowd’s comment quickly spread on social media, drawing criticism for him and the network.

Dowd later wrote on Bluesky, “My thoughts & prayers are w/ the family and friends of Charlie Kirk. On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack. Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind.”

The Wire's David Simon says he can no longer get a series made

The Wire’s David Simon says he can no longer get a series made

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

The Wire‘s David Simon says he can no longer get a show made, but also reveals details of new projects he would be keen to work on.

He said he “can’t get anything made” at the moment, explaining that he has been struggling to land a show at HBO.

Speaking to The Observer, the screenwriter and producer opened up about the struggle to find a home for shows and projects he would like to make.

“I’ll never write anything that’s going to be a franchise,” Simon told the publication. “I was having lunch with the boss there and I said: ‘You know, I’m not sure you guys are the home for what I do any more. You’re not going to take the David Simon Harry Potter miniseries about a bureaucratic Hogwarts that can’t function.’”

He later said that there are more shows and projects he hopes to be able to work on, including a musical using music by The Pogues. He said:  “You know, I’m 64. I had a good 25-year run. But on my shelf, there is [still] a series about the history of the CIA and American foreign policy since the second world war.

“There’s a miniseries about the first Muslim FBI agent and how he got run out of the bureau. There’s another piece [about] child protective services and the family courts. There’s a punk musical using the music of the Pogues.”

Back in 2021, Simon penned a tribute in an open essay to the show’s late actor Michael K Williams.  Simon took to Twitter to post a tribute in the New York Times after the actor was found dead in his home in Brooklyn, New York. He was 54.

“A short remembrance for a talent, a genuine collaborator and a true friend. What I hope never gets lost is the awareness that Mike genuinely wanted his work to matter; not for fame or reward, but for leaving us all better humans in its wake,” The Wire creator wrote in the post.

The essay centres around a conversation Williams had about his character Omar Little, and the HBO series itself, with the writers prior to the acclaimed show’s second season, which the actor felt was straying fundamentally from the acclaimed first season.

Also in 2021, The Wire was named the greatest TV series of the 21st century in a poll. The critically acclaimed drama ranked first in a BBC list ranking the best shows of the last 21 years, based on an aggregate poll of TV critics.

Reacting to the win, The Wire creator David Simon said: “I’m glad the show has a shelf life. We weren’t interested in whether characters were good or bad. The writers had in their heads the idea, ‘If a society is going to have a law enforcement arm, what’s the job of that institution? What are the police doing?’

“If you write a show like that, it will have a shelf life for as long as those systems are in play.”
