Moody Blues Legend John Lodge Dead at Age 82

Legendary Moody Blues singer-bassist John Lodge has died “suddenly and unexpectedly” at the age of 82. The announcement was made Friday morning by the musician’s family.

A statement posted on Lodge’s official Facebook page, and shared on Moody Blues’ Facebook page, reads as follows:

“It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that John Lodge, our darling husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us. As anyone who knew this massive hearted man knows, it was his enduring love of his wife, Kirsten, and his family, that was the most important thing to him, followed by his passion for music, and his faith.

He was never happier than being on stage – he was ‘Just a ‘Singer in a Rock and Roll Band’ and he adored performing with his band and son-in-law, Jon [Davison] (vocalist with YES), and being able to continue sharing this music with his fans. It gave him even more joy to be able to work with his daughter Emily and son Kristian and spend time watching his grandson John-Henry play football and dream of him playing for Birmingham City one day!

John peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved-ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. We will forever miss his love, smile, kindness, and his absolute and never-ending support. We are heartbroken, but will walk forwards into peace surrounded by the love he had for each of us. As John would always say at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith.

Please understand that we are not making any further comments, however we would like to leave you with John’s song ’Whispering Angels’ whilst we take a moment to reflect on this incredible man who touched so many lives.”

Lodge was born in Birmingham, England, on July 20th, 1983. He was a classic member of The Moody Blues, having joined the UK band in 1966, and remained with them until they became inactive in 2018. He appeared on all of their albums aside from their 1965 debut, The Magnificent Moodies.

He was the co-lead vocalist of the Moody Blues with Justin Hayward, and sang lead on such hits as “Ride My See-Saw,” “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band),” and “Candle of Life.” Along with his Moody Blues bandmates, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Lodge also released a handful of solo albums, and was actively touring up until August of this year, with his final gig being August 7th in Des Plaines, Illinois, where he performed a set of 17 Moody Blues songs.

Our condolences go out to John Lodge’s family, friends, and bandmates during this difficult time. Revisit a couple of his classic songs with the Moody Blues below.

Moody Blues singer and bassist John Lodge has died at the age of 82.

John Lodge has passed away at the age of 82

The musician’s family announced on Friday (10.10.25) that he had “suddenly and unexpectedly” passed away.

A statement read: “It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that John Lodge, our darling husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother, has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us.

“As anyone who knew this massive-hearted man knows, it was his enduring love of his wife, Kirsten and his family, that was the most important thing to him, followed by his passion for music, and his faith. John peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.

“We will forever miss his love, smile, kindness and his absolute and never-ending support.

“We are heartbroken, but will walk forwards into peace surrounded by the love he had for each of us. As John would always say at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith.”

Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966 alongside singer Justin Hayward after the departures of Denny Laine and Clint Warwick and went on to feature on some of their best-known work – including the 1967 psychedelic album Days of Future Passed that featured the classic hit Nights in White Satin.

The Birmingham-born musician was also a prolific songwriter and penned tracks such as Ride My See-Saw, Time to Get Away and Eyes of a Child.

His family’s statement added: “He was never happier than being on stage – he was just a singer in a rock and roll band and he adored performing with his band and son-in-law, Jon, and being able to continue sharing this music with his fans.

“It gave him even more joy to be able to work with his daughter Emily and son Kristian and spend time watching his grandson John-Henry play football and dream of him playing for Birmingham City one day.”

Lodge remained with The Moody Blues as they continued performing live until 2018, the same year that they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife Kirstien and their children Emily and Kristian.

bitchy | Prince William & Kate need 150 acres of land around Forest Lodge for ‘security’

On Monday, Prince William put on a big-boy suit and returned to big-boy statesman work! We know it was super-important because William’s office posted a breezy, wordless video about William’s meeting with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah. The two heirs met at Windsor Castle. So I would assume that William probably returned from Scotland over the weekend. William wasn’t seen at church at Balmoral on Sunday, so his hunting trip had probably already ended. As for the meeting between the heirs… guess which one is older? Sheikh Sabah is actually 72 years old, only four years younger than King Charles. He honestly looks pretty good for his age, but that’s probably because of the side-by-side comparison with William, who has never touched a drop of moisturizer in his life.

They can post all of the wordless behind-the-scenes videos they want, it still doesn’t make Willy a statesman. It’s actually pretty sad, because William comes across as such a lightweight who can’t even be trusted in these kinds of meetings with friendly Arab royals. God knows what kinds of gaffes he made which will never be spoken about.

Anyway, I guess we can expect more of this kind of “work” – a meeting in Windsor Castle, a ten-second social media video, and they call it a day’s work. This will be William’s work life when he moves fulltime into his fifth forever home, Forest Lodge. As we learned, royal security apparently demands that a sizable chunk of Windsor Great Park is now off-limits to peasants because of the Waleses’ move to Forest Lodge. Those peasants paid an annual fee to be able to enter through the park’s gates to walk their dogs. So just how extensive is Will & Kate’s land grab? 150 acres is now Will and Kate’s “ring of steel” around Forest Lodge. What a huge f–king waste of money.

Work is underway on William and Kate’s new ‘ring of steel’ as they set about fencing off a 150-acre no-go zone around their forever home. The Prince and Princess of Wales have imposed a 2.3-mile personal exclusion area around Forest Lodge, a Georgian mansion in Windsor Great Park.

It is understood those who venture past the ‘no trespassing’ signs – intended to keep William, Kate and their three children safe – will face immediate arrest.

New images show the beginning of preparations aimed at keeping members of the public out of the area as cars and lorries arrive to erect a wooden fence. State-of-the art equipment is visible assisting workmen who hammer in the new measures. Meanwhile, pick-up trucks have also arrived on site transporting the necessary materials to ensure full protection.

Home Office plans mean the estate will be getting the latest CCTV equipment. In addition, the area around Forest Lodge is set to become a designated property under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA) 2005.

Security minister Dan Jarvis’s order, which came into force on Sunday, gives officers the power to arrest trespassers and is intended to act ‘as a deterrent for incursions’.

But the new plans have not gone down well with some locals, many of whom will see substantial changes to their access arrangements. A car park has been permanently closed, while there will no longer be access to Windsor Great Park at Cranbourne Gate, which residents could use for an annual charge of £110 annually.

[From The Daily Mail]

I’m mad on the dog-walkers and pedestrians’ behalf, but I’m also astonished by the collective shrug over this insane land-grab and these costly security measures. Did it seriously not occur to William, Kate or anyone in their office that turning Forest Lodge into their own sub-Windsor Estate was going to be an incredibly costly venture for British taxpayers. Will and Kate are paying out-of-Duchy-pocket for paint and furniture – taxpayers are paying to shut down part of the park and round-the-clock security to ensure that a dog-walker doesn’t step one foot on Will and Kate’s 150-acre royal estate.

bitchy | People: Prince George needs Forest Lodge to live ‘as normal a life as possible’

by jummy84 August 28, 2025

People Magazine’s cover story this week is Prince George at 12: The Boy Who Will Be King. This perhaps would have been more fitting on or around his twelfth birthday more than a month ago, but I think the timing suggests that Kensington Palace understands that the Forest Lodge news landed poorly. This is their pivot: see, Prince William and Kate are so focused on the best way to raise the heir, look at what a normal kid he is, see, that’s our REAL job! I also doubt that People Mag would have felt empowered to put a literal child on their cover unless they got the nod (if not explicit permission) from Kensington Palace. Well, enjoy some highlights about “the boy who will be king.” This actually made me feel sorry for George, btw.

George met veterans on VE Day: “This was the first sign of George taking on future duties,” Russell Myers of The Mirror tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “Even though he is so young, he seems to have grown in confidence over the last couple of years.” For observers, the moment highlighted how William and Kate, both 43, have been carefully preparing their eldest son for the throne. “It’s a slow game, and it gets him used to it on the couple’s terms rather than anybody else’s,” a palace insider says.

George is serious: “He comes across as a serious chap,” the insider adds. “To have the world’s eyes on you, especially when you’re so young, is demanding.” Yet those who know him well say he also has a playful streak.

He does the right things: “He does the right things at the right moment, as any 12-year-old would—and that’s all that matters,” says a source close to the palace.

George has never been to boarding schools: Following a summer in which his mother has been regaining strength nearly a year after chemotherapy, George is returning to Lambrook School in September for his final year alongside Charlotte and Louis. Unlike previous heirs, he has always attended coed day schools. “That chimes with William wanting to do things in a more modern way, putting all three children in the same school,” says royal author Sally Bedell Smith. “It’s a new direction — groundbreaking for the royal family.”

But will he go to Eton next year? But a pivotal decision lies ahead: where he will continue his education next year. For most royal watchers, Eton College — the all-boys boarding school where William thrived — is the front-runner, conveniently close to the family’s new home, Forest Lodge, in Windsor Great Park, where they plan to settle by year’s end.

Forest Lodge is important to George!! William and Kate have anchored themselves in Windsor, determined to give their children as normal a life as possible. At Forest Lodge, they plan to maintain the routines that matter most: school drop-offs and pickups, sports games and everyday family moments — all without live-in staff.

The importance of the Middletons: George’s home life mirrors the happy country-centered childhood Kate enjoyed. Living just 30 minutes away, Kate’s hands-on parents, Carole and Michael, play an unusually prominent role in shaping the life of a future King. “Kate’s family has set the pace, and William has been very happy to take the lead from them,” says royal author Robert Lacey. “Many decisions they’ve made echo Middleton decisions.”

What happens if King Charles passes in the next few years: With King Charles, 76, still undergoing treatment for an undisclosed cancer, questions about the future are inevitable. If George becomes heir to the throne before finishing school, any bestowal of the title Prince of Wales may be delayed by William. “They would want him to focus on having freedom before giving him any royal titles,” the insider says. Adds Lacey: “I imagine that when William talks to George about things like this, he uses words like ‘destiny’ rather than ‘duty.’ ‘Duty’ has a sense of being trapped; ‘destiny’ has a sense of choice.”

A normal kid: “He is the most normal 12-year-old future monarch we have ever had,” says the close palace insider. “And that is a very good thing.”

[From People]

I actually think Sweden’s Princess Estelle is probably the most “normal” yet prepared future monarch – Estelle’s parents seem to be doing a great job of letting her be a kid, but also preparing her for her future role, and including her on all kinds of state events. As for George… this piece absolutely felt like George’s parents using him as a human deflection shield when they got bad press for the Forest Lodge move. The explicit mention of Forest Lodge as part of George’s “normal” life says it all (to me). Yeah, I do feel sorry for those kids.

bitchy | Marca: King Charles thinks the Wales family’s move to Forest Lodge is stupid

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s been some fascinating backlash to the Prince and Princess of Wales’s planned move to Forest Lodge. It’s reminded me, in a way, of the backlash to Kate’s “cancerfree” video last September. Within the video, Kate announced that she was now “cancerfree,” and then Kensington Palace tried to block reporters from using that word. The video itself was nonsensical, like a hazy commercial for an MAO inhibitor. At the time, I wondered why there was so much discontent over the video, then someone let the cat out of the bad – Buckingham Palace was very displeased with it, and sources close to King Charles noted that Charles and Camilla would never be filmed kissing each other on a beach because “it’s distinctly un-regal.” Another well-placed royal insider noted: “All that lying round, hugging and kissing – they’re not soppy teenagers. It felt manipulative. It’s the sort of thing that Meghan would make. All the time, effort and expense put into making the video could have been much better spent elsewhere. Why not visit other women being treated for cancer? That’s what Diana would have done.”

I bring that up because I feel like we’re just days away from finding Charles and Camilla’s fingerprints all over the backlash to Forest Lodge. Not that I even believe that C&C need to orchestrate anything at this point – royal reporters are clearly already furious with Will and Kate’s laziness and their office’s history of lies and obfuscation. But I wonder if C&C’s courtiers have given the go-ahead to attack. Speaking of, Marca reports that Charles thought the move to Forest Lodge was stupid from the word go.

The tension within the British Royal Family shows no signs of easing up, though this time it has nothing to do with Prince Harry. Instead, it’s Prince William and Kate Middleton who aren’t on the same page as King Charles III when it comes to picking their “forever home”.

While William and Kate are seemingly set on making the move, the decision hasn’t gone down well with King Charles. It isn’t the first time the King has disagreed with the couple over a move, as earlier reports suggested they were considering moving to Fort Belvedere but plans fell through.

The belief is that Charles doesn’t believe William and Kate need another property as they already have three – Kensington Palace, Anmer Hall and Adelaide Cottage. Charles feels that another move wouldn’t go down well with taxpayers and those opposed to the monarchy.

Despite Charles’ opposition, it looks as though Prince William is intent on going through with the move. As a result, two families are being evicted from their homes, which has raised eyebrows and created some bad publicity for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Now faced with backlash, King Charles has no intention of getting involved in the matter, as he feels the situation could have been avoided had the couple listened to his advice.

[From Marca]

My thing is… why did Charles and QEII make such a point of giving Will and Kate such a small house (Adelaide Cottage) in 2022? They were already begging for a much larger and grander property back in 2021-22. They were never going to be happy with Adelaide. Unless the whole point of Adelaide was William and Charles agreeing to sideline Kate and give her a separate, out-of-the-way cottage where William could come and go and his movements would be largely hidden. That being said, I absolutely believe that Charles thinks the move to Forest Lodge is stupid as hell, and he probably did warn them that they were inviting backlash.
