Are you locked in? Inside gen z’s newfound obsession with focus and consistency

If there’s one thing the internet does best, it’s repackaging old ideas in new aesthetic ways. Case in point: Gen Z’s latest fixation on “locking in.” The phrase has taken over social media feeds, with influencers declaring that they’re “locking in for winter.” According to Google Trends, searches for the term peaked this year, reaching a value of 100, the highest possible popularity rating.

From memes to reels, the ‘locking in’ trend is taking over the internet

The idea is simple: you “lock in” to a goal or habit, block out distractions, and focus on becoming the most disciplined version of yourself. Influencer Manvi Vedwa recently posted a reel captioned, “Are you locking in for the rest of 2025 to meet your goals?” featuring yoga sessions, morning journaling and matcha routines. It’s equal parts inspiring and aspirational, but also a little familiar and reminiscent of other trends like the “75 Hard Challenge”. The difference? “Locking in” is less about transformation and more about vibe management by creating the illusion of control through discipline.

At its core, “locking in” merges productivity culture with aesthetic storytelling that Instagram loves. It’s about achieving your “gym lock-in arc,” “academic lock-in era,” or “winter glow up arc.” Users turn consistency into content by turning their goals into something they can post. As Arpita Kohli, psychologist from PSRI Hospital says, “Gen Z has grown up in an environment of constant digital stimulation, where attention is fragmented. ‘Locking in’ represents a rebellion against this, as a conscious attempt to reclaim agency over one’s focus, productivity, and sense of control. Sharing this online turns personal discipline into a collective experience.”

This sense of collective focus has even inspired new digital tools. One example is Tag Team, an accountability app that pairs users with partners who share similar goals. Co-founder Divij Meh describes it as “mutual encouragement with structure.” He says, “Gen Z doesn’t struggle with ambition; we struggle with consistency because focus has become lonely. Tag Team makes discipline collaborative rather than isolating.”

But as with most online trends, “locking in” walks a thin line between self-improvement and self-performance. Ms Arpita Kohli warns, “It can be both a healthy coping mechanism and a source of pressure. While it encourages structure and mindfulness, when it becomes comparison-driven, it can lead to guilt, burnout, and an unhealthy obsession with productivity.”

In many ways, “locking in” mirrors Gen Z’s relationship with identity itself. As Arpita Kohli adds, “Gen Z tends to build identity through visibility. ‘Locking in’ isn’t just about being focused; it’s about being seen as focused. It reflects a deep desire for stability and purpose in a chaotic, hyper-connected world.”

Ultimately, “locking in” may look like progress to a generation determined to be better. But scroll long enough, and you’ll see its paradox. The beautifully edited montages of productivity remind us of one thing: we’re still scrolling for motivation instead of doing the thing.

HAQ’s New Poster Out! Yami Gautam Dhar, Emraan Hashmi Faceoff, Locked In A Powerful Battle Of Kaum Ya Kanoon?

With less than a month to go for its highly anticipated theatrical release, Junglee Pictures has just unveiled the Faceoff Poster of its upcoming film HAQ, offering a riveting first look at the emotional and ideological confrontation between Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi.

HAQ’s New Poster Out!

The newly released poster sets the tone for what promises to be a bold, impactful drama capturing the raw intensity between two characters on opposing sides of a national debate. It reflects HAQ’s core conflict: Kaum ya Kanoon?

Directed by Suparn S. Varma and written by Reshu Nath, HAQ is inspired by a landmark Supreme Court judgement and presents a fictionalized and dramatized interpretation of events based on ‘Bano: Bharat ki Beti’ by Jigna Vora.

The film raises one of India’s most defining questions: Where do we draw the line between personal law and secular law?

With powerful performances from Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, the poster is a visual embodiment of the storm brewing between belief systems and the justice system. Also featuring Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady in pivotal roles, HAQ is a timely and gripping courtroom drama for our times.

Produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ releases in theatres on 7th November 2025.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt gave an iconic film titled Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022). This was Alia’s first collaboration with the ace filmmaker, and the movie was a huge success at the box office. However, little do the people know that this wasn’t the first project on which the actress and the ace filmmaker came on board. Alia desperately wanted to work with Bhansali, but one big project on which she was supposed to collaborate with SLB couldn’t see the light of day.

She was going to be paired opposite Salman Khan in Bhansali’s Inshallah. However, the film got shelved due to some creative differences between the filmmaker and Khan. The project fell all of a sudden, and Alia Bhatt was unhappy over it.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali Shares Alia Bhatt’s Emotional Fallout From Inshallah Shelving

According to the Indian Express, during an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sanjay Leela Bhansali mentioned that Alia was so dejected after the shelving of Inshallah that she locked herself in a room. He said, “I was doing Inshallah with her, and suddenly the project got shelved. She broke down, she cracked up, she cried, raved, ranted, and locked herself in a room. Then, I called her up after one week and said, ‘You’re playing Gangubai’. She said, ‘‘ I was going to play a character in Los Angeles and now I’ve come to Kamathipura, how will I do it? I don’t know this.”

However, Bhansali instilled faith in her and said that it was his job as a director to tap into the actor in her and bring out the best. SLB added, “I will tap into that strong woman in you, because I can see it in your eyes. I can see how convinced you are of certain things because of your personality. That is my job as a director… How do you tap into an actor, and then they say, ‘I didn’t know I could play a brothel madame, I didn’t know I had a lower pitch, I didn’t know I could stand and do this, I started enjoying it’. She just flew into the role. Even today, sometimes, she talks like Gangubai.”

Gangubai Kathiawadi: A Career-Defining Collaboration

He stayed true to his words and crafted a pure art film that brought laurels for himself and Alia Bhatt. The film, made on a budget of nearly Rs 100 crore, fetched almost 209.77 crore at the box office. It fetched a National Award for Best Actress to Alia Bhatt. At the 68th Filmfare Awards, Gangubai Kathiawadi received 17 nominations, getting Alia Bhatt the award for Best Actress and Sanjay Leela Bhansali the award for Best Director.

What’s Next For Sanjay Leela Bhansali & Alia Bhatt

The fans are now eagerly looking forward to Bhansali’s next film, titled Love and War, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt. The film is expected to hit the theatres next year on March 20, 2026.

Apart from this, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is reviving his shelved project Baiju Bawra, with Ranbir Kapoor reportedly stepping in for Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt has been signed for Yash Raj Films’ upcoming spy thriller Alpha, starring alongside Sharvari Wagh.

Mohanlal’s Vrusshabha Teaser Unveiled, Diwali Release Locked

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

The makers of Vrusshabha, starring Mohanlal, have dropped a teaser that sets the tone for an ambitious saga. Directed by Nanda Kishore, the film is set to release theatrically on October 16, coinciding with the Diwali festival.

The teaser hints at a narrative that cuts across two timelines, one rooted in the present day and another in a grand historical setting. Mohanlal takes centre stage in the period sequences, where he appears as a king, donning regal armour and exuding authority amid breathtaking visuals.

Star Cast, Crew and Creative Team Behind the Vision

Alongside Mohanlal, the film features Samarjit Lankesh, Ragini Dwivedi, Roshan Meka, Shanaya Kapoor, Zara Khan, and Srikanth Meka in key roles.

Vrusshabha is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, C.K. Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Saurabh Mishra, Abishek S Vyas, Praveer Singh, Vishal Gurnani, and Juhi Parekh Mehta. The project is presented by Connekkt Media and Balaji Telefilms in association with Abishek S Vyas Studios.

On the technical side, music is composed by Sam CS, while dialogues are penned by SRK, Janardhan Maharshi, and Karthik. The visual style and action choreography are helmed by a strong crew: Antony Samson (cinematography), KM Prakash (editing), Nanditha Singh and Mohan B Kere (production design), and stunt masters Peter Hein, Stunt Silva, and Nikhil.

What Audiences Can Expect This Diwali

Fans are excited about the contrast teased in the promo: a modern storyline interwoven with an epic past. Mohanlal’s turn as a warrior-king has already become a highlight, drawing praise for its scale and grandeur.

Production is now in its final stages, with dubbing and post-production nearing completion. The film is being positioned as a festive spectacle for Diwali, promising to showcase Mohanlal in a role that blends mass appeal with mythic scale. With a powerhouse cast, lush production values, and a story that spans eras, Vrusshabha is shaping up to be one of the season’s biggest releases.

Chance the Rapper Says He & Ex-Wife Kirsten Corley Are ‘Locked In Forever’ After Finalizing Divorce Earlier This Year: ‘We’re Learning How To Be A Unit’

Chance the Rapper says he and ex-wife Kirsten Corley remain deeply connected despite their split.

On a recent episode of “Funky Friday” with Cam Newton, Chance reflected on co-parenting and the bond they’ve built around their daughters Kensli, 9, and Marli, 6.

“We’re two humans that have known each other forever it feels like,” he said. “Even if none of that existed, we’d be locked in forever.”

While he admitted their dynamic isn’t always picture-perfect, Chance made it clear they’ve found balance. “I’m not going to make it seem like I send her ‘Grand rising, queen’ every day,” he joked.

He also emphasized their shared commitment to raising strong, unified children. “We learn how to make concessions to do what’s best for the kids,” Chance explained.

The Grammy winner added that they even travel together and prioritize stability. “Ain’t nobody coming between us,” he said. “It only makes sense for us to be on the same page.”

What are your thoughts on their co-parenting arrangement?
