Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting 2025: Reba McEntire to Host

Laufey, Gwen Stefani and more stars are ready to rock around the Rockefeller Christmas tree, with NBC announcing the lineup for its annual tree-lighting celebration — hosted this year by Reba McEntire — on Friday (Nov. 14).

As Billboard can exclusively share, the network is set to air its 2025 Christmas in Rockefeller Center special at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 3, with viewers getting the choice of tuning live on NBC or watching a simulcast on Peacock. With the country icon and Voice judge making her debut as host of the yearly program, Marc Anthony, Halle Bailey, Michael Bublé, Kristin Chenoweth, New Edition, Brad Paisley and Carly Pearce will also perform.

Plus, the Radio City Rockettes — who are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year — will once again be present to dazzle viewers with a festive showcase and, most likely, a kick line or two. “The lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center is one of the great traditions that New York has to offer, and we couldn’t be more proud to once again share that excitement with audiences all over the country,” said Jen Neal, executive vp of live events and specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment, in a statement.

She added, “We’re so looking forward to seeing Reba bring her infectious energy to the telecast and create an unforgettable holiday moment.”

The 2025 iteration of the holiday extravaganza will build on more than 90 years of tradition. The first Rockefeller tree lighting took place in 1933, giving New Yorkers a meaningful bit of Christmas cheer amid the Great Depression; in 1936, the famous ice-skating rink at Rockefeller Center opened, giving the ceremony its now-iconic backdrop.

This year, the tree — a Norway Spruce imported from East Greenbush, N.Y. — will measure at 75 feet tall and 45 feet wide, weighing approximately 11 tons. Topped with a three-dimensional Swarovski star, it’ll take more than 50,000 colorful LED lights to illuminate.

In 2024, the special was hosted by Kelly Clarkson and featured performances from the Backstreet Boys, Dan + Shay, Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Little Big Town, RAYE and more.

Diwali 2025: As homeowners enthusiastically prepare their houses for the festival of light, from dusting every shelf to repainting walls, one aspect cohesively and irrevocably reflects the festive cheer: lighting. How you choose to illuminate your home refreshes the mood. It is only fitting that the lighting check boxes are dutifully ticked off for the festival of light.

When it comes to Diwali, lighting often begins and ends with fairy lights and diyas, but there’s so much more to explore. Creating a well-rounded, well-lit space requires strategy while also retaining the warmth and intimacy of festive fervour at the very heart of the lighting arrangement.

To achieve a cohesive lighting strategy, Anupriyam Arora, Design Lead, MagickHome, shared with HT Lifestyle 4 key hacks for this Diwali season. According to her, lighting transcends the purpose of utility as it is also about emotion. Emphasising the value of proper light arrangement on Diwali, she said, “If walls are the bones of a home, then lighting is its heartbeat.” This also highlights that festive decor’s revamp isn’t only confined to painting walls, as your illumination techniques also require your diligent attention.

Here are the 4 lighting hacks Anupriyam suggested:

1. Layer lights

  • Start with layers. A common mistake is relying on a single overhead light.
  • Instead, think in terms of ambient, task, and accent lighting.
  • Ambient lighting creates the overall glow, task lighting helps you focus in areas like the kitchen or study, and accent lighting adds drama by spotlighting art, textures, or architectural details.
  • Together, these layers make a space versatile and dynamic.

2. Avoid overlighting

  • A critical point that is often overlooked is overlighting.
  • Too many fixtures or overly bright lights can create harsh shadows, glare, and visual clutter, which can actually make a space feel smaller or uncomfortable.
  • Effective lighting is always about balance – enough to illuminate and highlight, but carefully controlled to maintain warmth, depth, and mood.

3. Add statement lights

  • A statement chandelier can be the jewel of a dining room, while pendant lights bring intimacy to a breakfast nook.
  • Wall sconces or floor lamps can add warmth and depth without major renovation.

4. Amplify natural light wherever possible

  • Natural light is the most underrated design element.
  • Play with sheer curtains, mirrors, and reflective surfaces to amplify daylight – it instantly makes rooms feel bigger and more welcoming.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Lighting Designer on Keeping Production in LA

I am a Los Angeleno, born and raised, and I admired the entertainment industry even before I was a part of it. I’ve been fortunate to build a successful career in Los Angeles as a Lighting Designer, contributing to some of the most exciting and high-profile projects of the past 35 years. From scripted series to live telecasts to reality competition shows, I’ve worked alongside incredibly talented people, making magical moments. I love what I do, the people I do it with, and the city we call home.

For the past five seasons I’ve served as Lighting Designer on the technicolor explosion of artistry and self-expression that is “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which has been proudly made in Los Angeles since 2009. At a time when productions are increasingly leaving Los Angeles, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has remained firmly planted, holding onto its LA roots and much of the dedicated crew who helped build the iconic show.

Many of us have worked in production for decades. We’ve come up through the ranks, mentored by veterans who shaped this industry and were lighting stages with carbon arcs and tungsten sources. Our crew includes gaffers and key grips whose parents, and even grandparents, were in the industry. We’ve got camera operators who started out as PAs in the early days of reality TV, and passionate, young talent—many making the move to Los Angeles to break into the business— who hope this will be the first of many projects in a lifelong career. We’re the kind of workers who have long formed the backbone of this industry town: generational, skilled, and deeply invested in its future.

The work is hard, the pace is fast, and the expectations are high. Each week “RuPaul’s Drag Race” delivers something spectacular, whether it’s a Broadway-style musical, a scripted acting challenge, a high fashion photo shoot, or a lip sync smackdown for the ages, we’re constantly raising the bar. We are artists who want to create something timeless—a moment that people will remember, and that might even change their lives.

That level of creative ambition is made possible because of LA’s unmatched production ecosystem: the best crews in the business, cutting-edge rental houses, experienced collaborators, versatile sound stages, and reliable industry partners. These local, world-class resources allow us to be bold, flexible, and efficient.

Much of the success of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” can be credited to World of Wonder’s commitment to producing the long-running series in Los Angeles. They’ve proven there is no better place to make award-winning, culturally resonant television than right here at home. Their continued investment in LA’s production community not only helps sustain jobs and businesses, it preserves the legacy of craftsmanship, collaboration, and creative excellence that defines this town.

Production is in LA’s DNA. Let’s keep it that way.
