Her Mother, Diane Ladd, & Father Bruce Dern – Hollywood Life

Laura Dern is one of the most celebrated actresses of all time. Aside from uncredited roles in the early 70s, she began regularly acting in 1980, and she’s appeared in a wide-range of critically-acclaimed films and popular blockbusters, notably early hits like Blue Velvet in 1986 and Jurassic Park in 1993. While Laura has been a beloved star for decades, she actually has many family members who have been in the entertainment industry in various forms. Her parents, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, both worked as actors, and she also has relatives who have been in politics, very successful businesspeople, and writers. All three actors have stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame close by each other.

Laura, who herself is a mother of two, has spoken about how happy she was that her parents were both entertainers in a 2014 interview with The Guardian. “My parents, Dianne Ladd and Bruce Dern, are so real; they’re so who they are. The 70s, when I was a child, was their time of great success. But there were no cameras following you through the market or paparazzi at your school,” she said. “They wanted to play complicated people and they didn’t care about anything else, like the glam stuff.”

Bruce Dern

Laura’s dad was married once before he went out with Diane. Bruce was briefly wed to Marie Dawn Pierce from 1957 to 1959, before marrying Diane in 1960. The pair’s first daughter died at 18 months old. By the time Laura was born in 1967, he was an established actor, with roles in a variety of TV shows, like Stoney Burke, where he appeared in 17 episodes. He had also done some movie work, including in films like Wild River and Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte.

Since the 60s, Bruce has appeared in a wide array of movies where he’s been critically acclaimed, including 1974’s The Great Gatsby, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. His performances in 1978’s Coming Home and 2013’s Nebraska earned him both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. Bruce and Diana divorced in 1969 and remarried Andrea Beckett that same year!

Laura has opened up about getting closer with her dad as she’s gotten older. She revealed that when she was younger, she felt like her dad was a bit unsure as a parent in a 2013 interview with Marc Maron on the WTF podcast. “I think he kind of — as you could imagine — didn’t really know what to do with a small person,” she explained. She also joked about how a playdate’s dad confronted her over a character her dad played who killed John Wayne in a 2013 Vulture interview.

Awkward playdates aside, she did reveal what she learned from her dad in that interview. “To stay true to what’s right for you. Stay true to your own voice, and don’t worry about needing to be liked or what anybody else thinks. Keep your eyes on your own paper,” she said of what she picked up on as an actress.

Like Bruce, Diane had also established herself as an actress with a variety of film and TV roles in the late 1950s and 60s before Laura was born. Over the years, Diane has appeared in a number of hit movies like Chinatown (1974) and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), and she’s received Oscar nominations for roles in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), Wild Heart (1990), and Rambling Rose (1991).

While Diane has been open about how she initially discouraged Laura from pursuing a career in acting, Laura’s first two uncredited roles were in her mom’s movies Alice and 1973’s White Lightning. Even though Laura spent lots of time with her dad as a kid, the actress did explain that her mom was the primary caregiver in the WTF interview. “I definitely was raised by my mom and my grandma,” she said. After Diane and Bruce split, she remarried William Shea from 1969 to 1976 and Robert Hunter in 1999.

The mom-and-daughter pair co-starred in the TV series Enlightened, which ran from 2011 to 2013. Laura said that some people didn’t realize that they weren’t just a mother and daughter on TV but in real life too. “I have had so many people come up to me, not really knowing we’re mother and daughter, and it’s amazing that there are people who are fans of the show who don’t know and get such a kick out of the relationship,” she said in a CBS News interview.

Both actresses appeared in a number of different projects together, including Rambling Rose, Wild At Heart, and Citizen Ruth. Similarly, Diane was ecstatic to get to work alongside her daughter on the show. “To work with someone you love is a great thing,” she told CBS News.

Laura announced on November 3, 2025, that Diane died at the age of 89.

“My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, California,” Laura wrote in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

The It Ends With Us cast and crew have been embroiled in a feud since last year. It all started when TikTok users noticed that film star Blake Lively and her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, didn’t pose for pictures together at the August 6, 2024, New York City premiere. Rumors surfaced claiming that the cast distanced themselves from Justin, and fuel was added to the fire when Justin hired a crisis PR manager. At the end of 2024, Blake filed a lawsuit against Justin for alleged sexual harassment on the set of their movie. In early 2025, Justin responded by suing both Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, but his countersuit was dropped by a judge in November 2025.

Hollywood Life is breaking down the timeline between the drama and the legal battle between Blake and Justin, below.

Rumors of Tension Circulate

On August 14, 2024, TMZ reported that there was discomfort between Blake and Justin while filming a kissing scene. Insiders told the outlet that the A Simple Favor actress felt that the director “lingered” too long while kissing her on camera.

Sources also told the outlet that Blake felt “fat-shamed” by Justin while working on a scene in which his character, Ryle, lifts her character, Lilly, into the air. Justin reportedly has a history of back issues, and after he allegedly asked an on-set trainer how much Blake weighed, she felt that he was fat-shaming her, according to the outlet.

Page Six reported that an eyewitness recalled “tension” visible in Blake on the set of It Ends With Us.

“The tension was so obvious,” the source told the outlet. “Once [Blake] was done with the scene, she was really impatient, said, ‘Am I done? Can I go?’ and as soon as they said, ‘Yes,’ there was like a Blake-size hole in the wall [sic]. She was so outta there.”

Fans were asking whether or not Blake and Justin would work on the sequel, It Starts With Us. However, a source told Variety on August 27, 2024, that there is “no world where these two will work together again.”

“This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like,” the insider added.

How Did Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni’s Feud Escalate?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmakers’ working relationship was impacted during post-production. The publication reported that two different cuts of the film were created, causing an alleged divide in creative differences.

As internet sleuths have noticed, Blake and It Ends With Us book author Colleen Hoover do not follow Justin on Instagram even though he follows them. And the social media activity isn’t the only area where the cast’s relationship allegedly went downhill.

PEOPLE reported on August 13, 2024, that the rumored tension with Justin involves the “principal cast” and Colleen.

“All is not what it seems,” an insider from the set told the publication. “There is much more to this story. The principal cast and Elisabeth McGowan Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him.”

Blake Lively Sues Justin Baldoni

On December 21, 2024, TMZ reported that Blake filed a lawsuit against Justin for alleged sexual harassment. The lawsuit stated that an all-hands-on-deck meeting was held on the set of It Ends With Us to address the alleged toxic work environment. According to the outlet, the meeting addressed the following demands: no more showing nude videos or images of other women to Blake; no more comments about Justin’s alleged previous “pornography addiction; no further conversations about sexual experiences in front of Blake and other people; no more mentions of cast and crew’s genitalia; and no more inquiries about Blake’s weight.

Another demand that was mentioned was “no more adding of sex scenes, oral sex or on-camera climaxing by BL outside the scope of the script BL approved when signing onto the project,” per TMZ.

TMZ further reported that It Ends With Us flopped at the box office because Blake and Justin disagreed on how to market the film. According to the outlet, Blake allegedly wanted the her character’s resilience to be the focus, while Justin allegedly wanted to make the focus more serious because the movie addresses domestic violence.

In response to her lawsuit, Justin’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, calling Blake’s lawsuit “shameful” that she and her representatives “would make such serious and categorically false accusations against Mr. Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and its representatives, as yet another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation which was garnered from her own remarks and actions during the campaign for the film; interviews and press activities that were observed publicly, in real time and unedited, which allowed for the internet to generate their own views and opinions.”

Justin Baldoni Sues ‘The New York Times’

On December 31, Variety reported that Justin filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times over its published story titled, “We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.” On behalf of Justin and several other plaintiffs, Bryan filed a complaint alleging that the publication committed promissory fraud and breach of implied-in-fact contract.

In response, a NYT spokesperson said, “The role of an independent news organization is to follow the facts where they lead. Our story was meticulously and responsibly reported. It was based on a review of thousands of pages of original documents, including the text messages and emails that we quote accurately and at length in the article. To date, Wayfarer Studios, Mr. Baldoni, the other subjects of the article and their representatives have not pointed to a single error. We published their full statement in response to the allegations in the article as well. We plan to vigorously defend against the lawsuit.”

Justin Baldoni Sues Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds

On January 16, 2025, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds, accusing them of hijacking It Ends With Us and destroying his reputation with false allegations of sexual harassment. According to Variety, the complaint read, “This is a case about two of the most powerful stars in the world deploying their enormous power to steal an entire film right out of the hands of its director and production studio … When Plaintiffs have their day in court, the jury will recognize that even the most powerful celebrity cannot bend the truth to her will.”

On January 27, 2025, TMZ released a voice message that Justin shared with Blake, which seems to reference an alleged meetup where a new script was written for a scene with her husband and friend Taylor Swift in attendance. In the voice memo, Justin is heard saying, “I’m really sorry. I f***ed up. I will admit and apologize when I fail. I’m a very flawed man, as my wife will attest.” He also refers to their presence, saying, “We should all have friends like that aside from the fact that they’re two of the most creative people on the planet.” Justin added, “The three of you guys together, it’s unbelievable.”

“I just wanted you to know that I didn’t need that,” he continued. “Because it’s really good.” The actor wrapped up by saying, “I’m excited to go through the whole movie with you.”

On March 13, 2025, a federal judge granted Blake’s request to safeguard certain information in the case. According to multiple outlets, the motion will only allow sensitive information in the case to be seen by “attorneys eyes only.”

Justin Baldoni Sues His Former Publicist

On March 21, 2025, Justin Baldoni filed a lawsuit against his former publicist, Stephanie Jones, after reports surfaced that she was involved in the feud and drama surrounding the It Ends With Us cast, including Blake Lively and Baldoni himself.

Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, stated to Variety, “It is undeniable that Stephanie Jones initiated this catastrophic sequence of events by violating the most basic of privacy rights, as well as any remaining trust her clients held.” He added, “No stranger to stirring up crisis scenarios for departing clients, Ms. Jones maliciously turned over communications from the phone she wrongfully took from her own partner to her cohort, [Lively’s personal publicist] Leslie Sloane, immediately after Jones was terminated for cause by Wayfarer due to her own wrongful behavior.”

Blake Lively’s Emotional Distress Claims Dismissed

In June 2025, a judge overseeing Lively and Baldoni’s case withdrew her claims of emotional distress. According to Variety, Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Baldoni’s motion to compel was denied “based on Plaintiff’s representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn. Lively’s request that ‘because the parties have agreed to dismiss Ms. Lively’s tenth and eleventh causes of action . . . the Court exercise its inherent authority and authority under Rule 15 to dismiss them without prejudice’ is denied without prejudice to renewal. The parties shall stipulate to whether the dismissal is with or without prejudice, or Lively shall renew her request by formal motion. For avoidance of doubt, if the claims are not dismissed, the Court will preclude Lively from offering any evidence of emotional distress.”

Judge Dismisses Justin Baldoni’s Defamation Lawsuit

On June 9, 2025, Judge Lewis J. Liman of New York dismissed Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit against Lively, her husband, Reynolds, the couple’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, and Baldoni’s defamation allegations against The New York Times. Trump Said the U.S. Could ‘Blow Up the World’ 150 Times With Nuclear Weapons

While pointing out that the U.S. has “more nuclear weapons than any other country,” in the world, the president said that China will soon follow suit and “be even in five years.”

“You know, they’re makin’ ’em [weapons] rapidly,” Trump said. “And I think we should do something about denuclearization, which is gonna be some — and I did actually discuss that with both President [Vladimir] Putin and President Xi [Jinping]. Denuclearization’s a very big thing. We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times. Russia has a lot of nuclear weapons, and China will have a lot.”

Trump also said he wants the U.S. to perform more nuclear testing “because you have to see how they work.”

“If you notice, North Korea’s testing constantly. Other countries are testing,” Trump said. “We’re the only country that doesn’t test, and I don’t wanna be the only country that doesn’t test.”

Trump Said ICE Hasn’t ‘Gone Far Enough’ With Their Raids

After O’Donnell pointed out the harsh videos of ICE raids and arrests seen around the country, she asked Trump if he thinks some of the raids may have gone “too far.”

“No, I think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by [Joe] Biden and by [Barack] Obama,” Trump claimed, adding, “Because you have to get the people out. You know, you have to look at the people. Many of them are murderers. Many of them are people that were thrown outta their countries because they were, you know, criminals. Many of them are people from jails and prisons. Many of them are people from frankly mental institutions. I feel badly about that, but they’re released from insane asylums. You know why? Because they’re killers.”

When O’Donnell asked what Trump thought about New York City’s mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, the Republican said, “I think he’s probably gonna make de [former Mayor Bill de Blasio] look great. I think he will make de Blasio look like one of our great mayors. De Blasio was the worst mayor we’ve ever had. Now I saw that, you know, but I was sort of leaving during that period of time. I got to see de Blasio, how bad a mayor he was, and this man will do a worse job than de Blasio by far. And it’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York. Because if you have a Communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there.”

Trump added, “I’m not a fan of [Andrew] Cuomo one way or the other, but if it’s gonna be between a bad Democrat and a Communist, I’m gonna pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you.”

Trump Doesn’t ‘Even Think About’ the 2028 Election

“Well, I don’t even think about it,” Trump said when O’Donnell asked him about the rumors of him running for a third term in 2028. “I will tell you, a lotta people want me to run. But the difference between us and the Democrats is we really do have a strong bench. I don’t wanna use names, because it’s, you know, inappropriate. But it’s too early.”

Trump Said He’s ‘Not a Nazi’ & Blames the Press for Rhetoric

“Usually, when people talk, they’re not the problem. It’s the ones that don’t talk, in terms of that,” Trump said. “But, yeah, I think it’s — it’s a lot of the rhetoric. Look, they call me a Nazi all the time. I’m not a Nazi. I’m the opposite. I’m somebody that’s saving our country. But they call me Nazi.”

The president continued by noting that the press is “largely responsible” for the negative headlines about him.

“They have talking points, you know? They have just talking points. And the press is largely responsible for it,” Trump claimed. “The fake news, what they’ve done — I think one of the greatest terms I’ve ever come up with is ‘fake news.’ What they’ve done to our country is very bad. They have to change around. Now, nobody believes the fake news.”

We should support more people who actually have kids, because those are the people who ultimately have a more direct stake in the future of this country.”

Kayla Nicole brought all the heat to crafting her 2025 Halloween costume! The 33-year-old Special Forces alum dressed up as R&B singer Toni Braxton and shared a stunning video of it on her Instagram. But the costume raised a few eyebrows among Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift fans because of Kayla’s song choice for the post: “He Wasn’t Man Enough” by Toni.

“She’s an icon. She’s a legend,” Kayla captioned her Friday, October 31, video. “She’s @tonibraxton circa 2000.”

Several commenters praised the sports journalist’s costume, and a few may have added more fuel to the fire of rumors. One person commented, “Will the real showgirl step to the front!!!!!” which was seemingly a reference to Taylor’s Life of a Showgirl album. “This is too good! But also, we heard THE MESSAGE,” another social media user wrote.

“YOU CLEARED THE ROOM!!!!!!! Omg,” another commenter chimed in, before adding, “The level of petty, slayage and pure decimation needs to be studied. Omg.”

Though Kayla did not mention Travis, 36, nor Taylor, 35, in her post, she’s had to face the wrath of online trolls over her past relationship with the Chiefs tight end.

Kayla and Travis dated on and off from 2017 to 2022, and the football player started dating Taylor in 2023. He and the “Karma” pop star announced their engagement earlier this year in August.

In season 3 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Kayla opened up about the online attacks she’s faced from some overly passionate Swifties.

“Going through a public breakup, just to be frank, it’s been overwhelming,” Kayla said in one episode, which premiered in January. “I’ve never experienced anything like it. … I’m a very confident person, but dealing with trolls or just hate online, I constantly feel like I’m in a state of vulnerability. I would love to be in a headspace where I’m just not affected at all. I’m doing this course because I want to remind myself that I’m capable of doing hard things.”

Kayla added that she felt “reduced to a headline to something so small as someone’s ex-girlfriend.” Nevertheless, she insisted that she “likes” Taylor and thinks she’s “very talented.”

Rob, 51, went all out to impress Bryiana, 34, and said he knew from their very first date that she was the one. Now, more than 10 years after tying the knot in 2015, the couple’s love is stronger than ever.

Rob recently made headlines after MTV officially canceled Ridiculousness following an incredible 46 seasons and more than 1,700 episodes. But while one major chapter of his career has come to an end, his marriage to Bryiana remains one of his proudest and most enduring successes.

Who Is Bryiana Dyrdek?

Bryiana was a pageant queen and model before launching her own haircare line. In 2013, she was Playboy’s Miss September. She has continued her pageant journey and became Mrs. Queen of the World in 2022.

Bryiana didn’t have the easiest time growing up. She was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a life-threatening blood disease, at just 10 years old.

In March 2023, Bryiana opened up about her autism diagnosis. “After a few months of privately processing my autism diagnosis, I decided to come out about it because the little girl in the last slide deserved better,” Bryiana wrote on Instagram. “I’ve finally reached the acceptance phase of my late diagnosis and am filled with more hope and peace than ever before. So, if you see me acting different, it’s because I am.”

She was diagnosed in December 2022. “I’m still new to this journey and have three decades of learning, unlearning, and re-learning to do, so I ask for your patience and grace as I go down this new path to rediscover myself… the me I was always meant to be.”

Rob showed his support for Bryiana in the comments. He wrote, “Brave, Beautiful and truly special. You are a gift to this world. You have always been perfect and always will be. Love you so much.”

How Did Rob Dyrdek and Bryiana Dyrdek Meet?

It all started with some DMs. In an interview with Carrie Doll, Bryiana revealed that she met Rob after he started following her on Twitter. She said that he “started DMing” her and then texted her asking “if I wanted to hang out.”

Initially, Bryiana was resistant to Rob’s charms, but he persisted. “I was posting about an animal shelter in Bakersfield that was going out of business so they had to find new homes… so he was like, ‘I was thinking we could take a helicopter and save some puppies.’ But I didn’t know him well enough to know that he was joking,” Bryiana continued.

When Rob was late, Bryiana thought she was being catfished. They had never talked on the phone prior to meeting up. Rob did end up bringing a helicopter on their date. He joined her on the trip to the animal shelter, and they spent the entire day together. She called it “the perfect day.” Bryiana revealed that Rob knew “day one” that he wanted to marry her. And the rest is history!

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of when they met, Bryiana shared the text chain between her and Rob after their first date.

Rob and Bryiana got engaged in April 2015. He proposed in the middle of the Aladdin show at Disneyland. “I am truly humbled by our love. It is truly a divine creation,” he wrote on Instagram. “@bryiana_noelle you are the love of my life and my true destiny. The day I met you I knew I would spend the rest of my life with you. What our relationship has actually become is million times better then I knew was even possible. My dreams and your dreams are our dreams.
